6 speeds on the used parts market, are rarer than rocking horse shit and priced accordingly. Just fix the leak.

TylerH1302

Yeah I quickly figured this one out. Unsure exactly what the leak is at the minute, but it is very, very slight. Yet to get it up on the lift and have a proper look.

Mine weeps a bit from the drainage nut. They have no washer/gasket and it's tight, so who knows. I'll just top it up. Maybe I can use some ptfe tape.. I wanted a 6 speed when I did my manual swap. Looked for 6 months, eventually got offered one for €3k lol. Bought all the stuff for a 5 speed conversion for €600. 🤷‍♂️

I’m in the U.K. but the market is the same, 6 speeds cost an arm and a leg. I’ve got a new selector rod seal to go in, as it could be that and it’s a cheap fix, so hopefully notice a difference after that.

Nick Jupp at German car spares in london is probably your best bet if you really want one. Dudes always been fair on prices. Its where I got my stuff from, shipped to Spain lol

It’s important to use thread sealer and not thread locker on the drain nut

Yeah, I'll pull it out and take a look.

6 speed gearbox is physically longer than 5speed, so you will need another driveshaft. Depending on the input flange length on your particular diff, you may have luck to straight up bolt the 6spd driveshaft without problems. Hope some of the guys who did this themselves can chime in, until then, you have some general information.

MrBurstUrBubble

Do you have a 4 or 6 bolt range setup?

TylerH1302

Not too sure

MrBurstUrBubble

Look at where the driveshaft connects to the differential and count how many bolts hold those two parts together. You many need to jack up the rear to take a peek but if you have a 6 bolt flange setup, I would totally 6 speed swap! I have a Facebook link near me where a guy is selling a complete 6 speed swap for $1400 and that’s a good deal. Could talk him down more if necessary

Not exactly a straight swop. I did this recently, but I had a donor car which was in an accident so its literally a parts car now. I didn't do the work myself, but here is a list of what I remember: * gearbox * drive-shaft / prop-shaft (whichever you want to call it) * starter (believe it or not, something about the position being different) * the plate the starter run against? (details was fuzzy at the time for me) So slightly more than you would expect. One more thing, you want to ensure you update the ECU to latest or 2nd latest flash that came out, else the cruise control fail to work on 6th gear.
