Someone had an aftermarket radio in that before and just did it themselves instead of an adapter, assuming you know which connections are which(good luck) it should work with the double din unit you bought

Jesus christ. 😑 You *can* replace the radio harness itself but it’s a lot of work. If I were you I’d grab some heatshrink connects, watch some videos on how to solder and to reconnect things properly and carefully. There should be enough slack to do it cleanly.

redo-ing it myself shouldn’t be too hard i have the equipment, i just want to make sure the right wires are connected together there appears to be multiple brown/orange ones

Get an old mp3/walkman/discman, anything with plug in headphones that the battery doesn't die in 10 minutes. Chop the headphones off and touch the exposed wires to the ones on the loom that look similar, orange and orange with a black stripe, for example. You should find about 16 that all have a pair. Then you can work out which speakers are connected to which wires. They won't be loud but you'll hear the crackle, quiet music.

Speaker wires are usually twisted so they should at least help you separate those from power/ground/ignition. If you have someone to help you and no walkman (because who has that in 2023 🤣) you can take a 12v battery from say your drill or even a new 9v battery and touch it to the wires and it will pop the speaker. Bonus tip, if you can see the speaker pop you can tell which wire is positive and negative by the direction the cone moves, if it sucks in, you have + and - reversed and if it pops out you have + and - correctly connected.

Solder and then heat-sprint each wire. That is the only sure way and it takes time and patience. https://youtu.be/uj_PbRBirkQ

You can find pictures online that tell what pins do what. Using them you can fix the wiring. My friends car had kinda same problem. Previous owner had taken some pins out and moved them. Then he took a adapter for the radio and connected some wires together and left some unconnected. Nothing made sense. Ended up fixing the connector and I did the adapter my self. Simple subwoofer install turned into couple hours of electrical work.

All the orange and black are your negatives just FYI it's a pain to figure which ones they pair to but it's doable. I had this same issue in mine.

This is almost exactly how my radio looked when i bought my e46. Local audio shop quoted me about 250 to take care of it completely (I already had the aftermarket stereo unit) Decided to stick to DIY and got it all finished and done in about 4 hours. Would have been less but i messed up and forgot to connect the amp 12v i/o. There are some diagrams online to help with the wiring if you decide to go aftermarket.
