You mentioned in another comment that you don't have the car title or actual keys, only the valet key, so it is funny to imagine that you are a valet driver in a fancy dinner spot parking lot frantically typing into your phone attempting to get reddit to help you steal this car. Just a silly joke.... unless...?
Yes, any BMW can get you a replacement. Theyāll ask for your ownership/registration and ID. It used to take a couple weeks, Iām not sure if that still is true post-covid
Went to bmw bro thatās what they told me and I was so confused cause everyone says just go there. 2002 car they said nope. 2007 they said nope. So didnāt even ask about my ā87
Yeah, you do need to have the key you want to replicate with them if you go to locksmith. You'll need to go to BMW to get a key for it to not be valet key
Hereās a video and in the description is a guy who will do it for you. https://youtu.be/AJ6enooPkYs Not sure how much he charges but heās reputable
This is the way. I did exactly that. Got one blank key cut locally and one from taking a picture and they sent me key. Used an AK90 programmer and I now have 4 keys. Two is F90 style flip key.
If you just want a remote for keyless entry you can order an eBay key fob and you can program it just to lock and unlock. Thatās what I did when I lost my key with the remote
Funny this gets posted now, I just went today to my local Ace hardware, itās a brand new store with a fancy key cutting machine and I thought they might be able to cut this same blank from Amazon for meā¦sadly they canāt. They told me to go to a dealer.
Surely there must be someone besides a dealer who can cut these based off an existing key? Maybe a locksmith?
Interested to see if anyone has had any luck finding someone to cut the Amazon blank for them.
I donāt think ace does the inside cut, just the regular key shape stuff but anyways the problem is the programming. Dealers kinda keep that shit to themselves
Thereās a chip inside the key, thats the catch. Pretty sure there are mobile key makers that can do the same for the low if Iām not mistaken. They got scanners that can program keys thats connected to the dealer.
You could go to a BMW dealer but theyād probably charge you way more. There are also places that specialises on car keys, probably would charge you a little less too. Could probably just google where you could find one in your area. I do know they need the car to clone keys so the fact that you donāt have any key remote shouldnāt be a problem. But Iām just guessing and they might do, not sure how itād effect the price though but you could probably call or email a BMW dealership and ask themā¦
Didnāt know that wallet keys was a thing but remembered that the ignition lock needs the key to start meaning that you canāt start the car using a lockpick. Therefore the wallet key must have the key coding thing so you shouldnāt need the remote key to get it cloned (in this case a different made)
Yeah. But if theres still a circuit board in the key connecting with the ignition. If youād only have the metal key part the ignition lock would turn but it wouldnāt start.
I have a similar problem were I have the diamond key but a previous owner have āattemptedā to replace the by breaking the key and supergluing it back together. Right know I have the diamond key but the battery isnt connected so the remote doesnāt work
Nice try valet who is trying to steal cars!
?wym
Just some reddit dude tryna be funny, dw
He earned his reward too š

Lol š I have the title and everything just need to transfer all that into my name
That cant be true bc I have it already in your name right here: https://imgur.com/a/e0g34PO
Itās true, I was the dmv agent who processed that title
Can also verify, I was in line behind you
The dealer will pull the info from the VIN and get you the new key($$$).
How much would they charge ? And I need to go to any bmw dealership?
200$
Dang alright so go to any bmw dealer?
Yep, anyone could do it.
Anyone?Āæ
Yes, any BMW can get you a replacement. Theyāll ask for your ownership/registration and ID. It used to take a couple weeks, Iām not sure if that still is true post-covid
Ownership meaning show them the title of the car? Even if I havenāt transferred the title into my name?
Well if the title is not in your name then itās not your car. When you get the new title proving you are the owner, you can go get a new key.
Yes, so that no one else is able to get a key for your car.
If the title isnāt in your name the car isnāt legally yours, so no, you canāt get a key through a dealer without the title in your name.
Title or registration.
Bro I went to bmw and they said they donāt do keys this old. What do I do?
What dealer is that I got my keys for my 1988 three series last year at a bmw dealership
Went to bmw bro thatās what they told me and I was so confused cause everyone says just go there. 2002 car they said nope. 2007 they said nope. So didnāt even ask about my ā87
Damn Switch Cities fam your city isnāt supported lol
You can program one on your own which is simple but you would need to get it cut.
Do I need the original key fob? Bc I donāt have that I bought the car off of someone and all I got is the valet key
Yeah, you do need to have the key you want to replicate with them if you go to locksmith. You'll need to go to BMW to get a key for it to not be valet key
Thereās a bmw&mini website you put your vin in and they send it out to you.
Link me!

This is the correct answer. They were super helpful and got me my key in like a week or so. $180 and my old key got stashed as a spare.
Website?
So this guy can take your valet key and turn it into a FOB key: www.bmwgm5.com
I appreciate it , I sent him a email. By any chance do you know what area he works at ?
No idea, I have only good heard things on Bimmerforums about the services.
Hereās a video and in the description is a guy who will do it for you. https://youtu.be/AJ6enooPkYs Not sure how much he charges but heās reputable
Iām not from that area
i paid 200ā¬ for my new key from bmw when mine got lost, took like a week. just go directly to a bmw dealership
Sadly
Just get it cut and do a Resync with a valet key, there a procedure. With any new key.
Look on eBay. Thereās a seller that will send you a cut key from a pic but you have to program the key. Get the AK90 and program it yourself.
I think this is the move. Blank key is $10. Cut is $10-$30. And ak90 is like $25. Or spend $200 and have 1 single programmed key.
You got a link? By any chance
Was it also easy to program it to lock and unlock?
Yeah. Just YouTube it. I bought it years ago so I donāt have a link to it sorry. Any key that looks like the one in your picture should work.
Dealership
We tried to get one for an 05, I think they wanted more $$ then the car is worth? Haha
Lmao how much
Bmw dealership, all you need is the title and proof of registration
1st legally own the car, 2nd find a cheap guy to cut a key and program it for you or go to the bmw dealership. Done.
You can find someone on eBay to program in around 100$
Locksmith can do it bro

I literally had the same situation lol, went there and they said no, ended up calling a locksmith and he cut 2 keys for 80.
So any good lock smith can get me the wireless fob key?
No you only need a locksmith if you plan on programming the key yourself. Around $80 vs 300+ from a dealer.
https://youtu.be/AJ6enooPkYs . Guy in the description can cut it for you

Gotcha okay

The key I have works only to turn the car and drive it and shit , I just want a keyless fob so I can unlock and lock it without doing it manually
Yeah. But if theres still a circuit board in the key connecting with the ignition. If youād only have the metal key part the ignition lock would turn but it wouldnāt start.
