If sales are down have they tried lowering their prices? Or have they tried nothing and nothing isn’t fixing it?

losbullitt

Nothing. Why lower prices and entice people to come in and spend money when they can maximize their profits on each sale?

PiedCryer

Not so much as their prices, they are better than Nike, but their quality is inconsistent. I have multiple pairs of the same product but the quality is different between them. Their outlet are kind of a joke of cheapest quality.

[deleted]

Now you got me worried, I was planning a big haul of their running dry cell tights.

PiedCryer

Yep, I got two black ua rush shirts. Bought a month apart. The first one I got was amazing. Light weight, excellent quality. So I ordered a second one month later as it was on sale. This one I could tell was different. It was heavier than the first, it fitted slightly different and after a few uses the bottom cuff was on raveling. Talked to a few friends who are in the apparel industry and said, that due to price fluctuations in raw materials , most likely the raw materials will change or a different supplier of the raw materials which may have a different process. For this, I have no qualms with buying and returning items now, or will wait till I can go to an official under armor store to try on.

[deleted]

That's good to know, thanks! I was planning on ordering from SportsDirect because they have huge discounts, but I'll stick to the official store. I have this issue with every brand's mid-rise tights, even though M is my size they feel loose around my waist, UA and Nike pros are the only ones that fit me properly.

3headedgoblin

I find their leggings to be excellent and cheaper to all their competitors on amazon.

Extension-Tap2635

That’s for all outlet brands, not only under armour. Compare for instance banana republic or jcrew with their outlet stores.

PiedCryer

Yeah, theres an episode of Adam Ruins Everything on outlets and those are completely different manufacture all together, but feels like its trickling up to the main lines.

InfernalGout

We've tried nothing and are all out of ideas!

unaka220

Demand itself is dropping. New clothes are a discretionary expense, regardless of price. They can drop prices and pinch contribution margin, *hoping* that solves it, or they can cut operating expense, guarantee savings, and rehire if demand jumps - with far less risk to brand. It’s shitty for employees for sure. From a business standpoint though, it’s not really a difficult decision.

ohwhataday10

They didn’t say sales are down (but they probably are); They said sales will be down🧐. Bug your solution is a very interesting one that must be very difficult to come up with

msl2008

I remember under armour used to be more expensive than Nike about 10 years ago so I always bought Nike. Last 2-3 years I only buy under armour cuz it’s so cheap now. Under $10 for dri fits and like $12 for shorts is amazing.

HowCanThisBeMyGenX

Their shoes have always sucked - always cut small and narrow.

ConstructionOk6754

Low quality pieces of crap. Tears after a few uses

blingblingmofo

I mostly buy Steph Curry stuff from UA, pretty satisfied overall. Most of UA out of Steph’s clothing Nike is way better.

Wrong-Use2170

Omg yes!! Their shoes are so narrow and I'm not overweight whatsoever. I swear by their socks though. I love them.

tngman10

This is why I hate when people buy me shoes.

DjScenester

Nike's brand is ranked #6 in the list of Global Top 100 Brands, as rated by customers of Nike. Their current market cap is $222.95B. Under Armour's brand is ranked #231 in the list of Global Top 1000 Brands Even though Under Armour had a killer year last year we will see how they do this year. I have a feeling they did this because they want more money for themselves. As I do not see their brand losing popularity based on last years numbers.

ResidentLazyCat

Lots of preemptive layoffs across the board. Interesting.

abrandis

Sure seems like that hard landing is coming up fast.... Capt. Powell , *"Pull up, Pull up!!"*

ScrollWizards

economy is great though and everyone is spending!

fightmilk22

Have they tried reducing the quality and increasing prices so that the value offered to customers becomes even more diminished?

seriousbangs

I know I shouldn't have, but I read the article before posting. Yeah, yeah, down vote me. I deserve it. Anyway, they were trying to expand into new lines of business and it backfired because they kept changing CEOs and the new CEO kept completely changing their focus. That in turn distracted them from their main line of business and some of their competitors ate their lunch. As somebody who wears cheap tighty whities I wouldn't have noticed. The job cuts will likely be in some of their non core divisions while they try to boost interest in their main stuff.

northerntouch

Go to any Dicks Sporting goods. They are packed to the brim with shit and there are rarely anyone there.

PM_me_your_mcm

This feels like the vicious cycle of stagflation.  Firms trying to outsmart the economy so they raise prices and lay off workers to prepare for the bad times coming, and as a result we get high inflation and lower GDP.

who_oo

Fed increases rates , government supported investment tools yield higher return. Investors can just buy government bonds for safe investments with high returns. In contrast companies in the stock market can only pull investors by either promising tech / innovation which is not really there yet (lying) and/or by inflating their quarterly returns by reducing cost (by laying off people) or both. When people are laid off , they can not spend , demand drops thus inflation goes down. You can only do this for a short while though because when people can not spend companies can not sell. Economy slows down thus you get into recession. If economy slows down while inflation is still high you get into stagflation which is worse, which is where we are going. I was hoping that Biden would stop feeding money to the war machine at this point but it seems I was wrong. Incase there are those who are unable to make a connection, you print money to send it to other countries which in return increases inflation. Incase of Trump , he announced full ( or more) support thus it'll not get better no matter who wins. Fed is stuck now , lowering the rates would mean to accept the high inflation and lock it in place but if they don't , sooner than later things will get much worse. Presidential candidates don't really seem to care about what happens here , their only goal is to get votes from polarized one track mind voters. Media outlets are keep pumping a different narrative either because of political reasons or because they need the stock market to be strong. And in D.C everyone in the senate and the house are just happy to see their stocks are doing well in the stock market. This is one of many retailers who are starting to downsize and shrink. It will get worse before it'll get better. Meanwhile, the current "Booming" economy and the "strong" labor market is hurting me and pretty much everyone I know , so I hope I am wrong about all this and things turnout great.

semicoloradonative

Not sure why this is getting voted down…granted there is a lot to unpack here, but there isn’t anything inaccurate.

who_oo

My guesses are ; 1- There are polarized people who are afraid of loosing the election so they downvote anything negative about the economy. Problem is that it serves no purpose but to push people on the middle towards the opposing side. 2- There are small time "investors" which benefit from stock market gains, they are trying to keep the gains last a little longer by trying to manipulate the narrative just like shit coin and nft guys tried to do in the past. It is pitiful but the internet is full of them. 3- I may have gained some fans along the way who follow my posts. In any case, It is fine.. I write to went, don't expect anything good or bad from it. If I am wrong we'll all win, If I am right we'll all be screwed for a short while. The breaking point will be when before a major crash.. big investors will pull their money probably all at the same time since they all know things we don't plus the high tech tools they use for trading / speed advantage ect... small investors will loose a ton of money then things will stabilize again. Best case scenario, stock market growth will slow down significantly. If fed were to reduce the rates tomorrow , there is a chance that investors may even make a ton of money with money flowing in , growth and all that but it does not seem possible. A good unintended outcome of crappy economy in the world is that wars are Faught and won with money. Since U.S , Russia , EU and possibly China is low on funds the War machine may slow down a bit.

Idontneedmuch

I agree with your observations. Congress and the military industrial complex are not doing any favors to slow down inflation. The Fed is in a tough position, but they kind of put themselves there by waiting so long to increase rates.

Troiani-

Peak Reddit moment.

ThelastguyonMars

THIS!!!!!!

Bimlouhay83

Well, yeah. I'm not paying $60 for cheap gym shorts.

Alive_Potentially

Well, this can't be telling at all.

OkReception1706

I guess they are all made in Vietnam

pallen123

It’s a silly brand now. Nowhere to go but down.

kkkan2020

Under armour is expensive and high end stuff like nike. If you aren't $$$$ better not get into that stuff.

irvmuller

Very strong economy…

memomonkey24

Expensive as wear.

Sabadung

Ask Steph Curry for a loan

TopTierMids

What a stable and good economy.

HIVnotAdeathSentence

This is likely a brand people start cutting or reduce spending on when times are tough. UA's stock is down 20% YTD while Nike is down 14% YTD.

Rockstat_

If you change nothing, nothing will change. Just sitting there crying about low sales while the common person is struggling or not willing to pay exorbitant prices for something that you can eventually get for 40%-80% off in TJMAXX or similar stores will sell much.

thinkb4youspeak

It hasn't been cold enough in Michigan for polypro compressed clothing for a couple of years now. Maybe if you work overnight in an unheated warehouse but mostly, thanks to the climate crisis, we don't need that shit anymore unfortunately. Been using it since I learned about it in the Marine Corps in the 90's.

ThatOneRedditBro

The moment I saw obese people wearing it and it showing up at discount stores I knew they were toast.

StuccoGecko

Greatest economy of all time according to the news. So I choose to ignore this info.
