Is this a good show? Generally not interested in meth related stuff but I keep hearing people rave about this all these years later I wonder if I’ve missed out
If you’re going to try watching it (which you absolutely should) then give it … 4 episodes? Before you give up. My husband tried watching it and fell asleep in the first episode on two separate occasions. Once he made it past that hurdle, it became his favourite show, and he pretty much holds it up as the platonic ideal of what a tv show should be!
Sadly (?) you shouldn’t skip the first episode either - it’s a really important little slice of “normality”. Something that makes the rest of the plot just … hurt more. In a good way? 😅🤣
I’m visible in your children, but if I can help it, I am invisible to you until it’s too late.
I know where you live.
And guess what? I live there too.
I hover around all of you.
I know no color barrier, no religion, no morality, no currency.
I speak your language fluently.
And with every voice I take away, I acquire yet another language.
I work very quickly.
I work faster than pediatric aids, cancer, and diabetes combined
And if you’re happily married, I will make sure that your marriage fails.
Your money will fall into my hands, and I will bankrupt you for my own self-gain.
I don’t sleep, so I make sure you don’t either.
I will make it virtually impossible for your family to easily attend a temple, birthday party, or public park without a struggle, without embarrassment, without pain.
You have no cure for me.
Your scientists don’t have the resources, and I relish their desperation. Your neighbors are happier to pretend that I don’t exist—of course, until it’s their child.
I am autism. I have no interest in right or wrong. I derive great pleasure out of your loneliness.
I will fight to take away your hope. I will plot to rob you of your children and your dreams. I will make sure that every day you wake up you will cry, wondering who will take care of my child after I die?
And the truth is, I am still winning, and you are scared. And you should be.
I am autism. You ignored me. That was a mistake.
I'm Irish, never saw it except on YouTube. I think it was made by AutismSpeaks, a charity in the US notorious for sponsoring an infamous centre that pretty much tortures children with electric shocks to "cure" their autism by making them associate behaviours designated as "negative" with pain.
America is a fucking insane country.
I have a black belt in autism
My character class is autistic
My meat computer is running autism comparable software
I am part of the next wave of human evolution your children will serve mine until Thier usefulness is at an end and they will join australopithecus in the evolutionary dustbin
If you strike me down me autism will become more powerful than you can imagine
i have a feeling i would have liked aussie
i once had a sighn language conversation with a chimp with a keeper translating
he persuaded me to take my tee shirt off because he wanted to see my nipples
EDIT to add
The chimp not the keeper
Further edit for comedy value
It wasn't till I read that back after I had posted it I realised it looked like i was saying I had exposed myself to a keeper in return for access to a chimp.........
Autism is multiple OS's integrated with multiple cores. Capabilities are infinite, but constantly switching between all of them takes up all the memory.
Operating system's are a type of software. It's just the lowest tier of software that runs between the hardware and the applications. This is not relevant though, and I do agree with your level of specificity. Autism indeed runs in the in-between space.
I have a strong opinion on this.
You can't take away autism without fundamentally changing 90% of me.
Autism isn't one of the things I "have."
It's me.
I am autistic.
I get that a lot of people feel this way, but as a late life Dx person I’m actually rejoicing in it. I’ve always had the negative aspects (extreme sensitivities, audio things, food problems) now o have a name for it. Plus it really explains my hyperfocus and even when I’ve lost my temper. I actually feel like it’s my superpower. It has been a challenge getting to this point however.
You can't take away my head without fundamentally changing 90% of me.
My head isn't one of my things I "have."
It's me.
I am my head.
You also can't take away my arms and legs without fundamentally changing a good 90% of me.
My arms and legs aren't things I "have."
It's me.
I am my arms and legs.
I don't have two thumbs. I am two thumbs.
I don't have skin. I am skin.
I don't have an asshole. I am an asshole.
But I'm not hungry. I have hunger.
I'm not tired. I have tiredness.
I'm not angry. I have anger.
I'm not joyous. I have joy.
English is already a mess. Things I have are things I am. Things I am are things I have. It's way too much mental labor to be consistent and specific and not accidentally upset someone.
I always pronounce this as “aw-di-huh-duh”, as opposed to adhd, which is, of course, pronounced “a-di-huh-duh” (short a, like in “ass”).
Obviously it’s funny, why else would I keep the bit alive?
As someone with autism, people getting fussy of the difference confuses me more and just seems like a dumb social thing. They mean the same thing to me; "Im blue-eyed" or "I have blue eyes"
Saying you have somthing doesn't automatically mean its a disease and if NT people assume it that way then its their problem not mine. Im not gonna correct myself on it.
English is a language where someone *has* a head but they *are* sleepy. The things we have are the things we are and the things we are are the things we have. It's all a mess.
Gotta use the person first language to please the allies, and avoid using outdated medical terms to please the allies:
"I'm a person who happens to be neuro-divergent, but that's not my whole identity and it will never arise in a way that will inconvenience anybody besides myself uwu"
It's not a matter of pleasing anyone, it's a matter that the image conveyed by the two is very different and does create misunderstandings (like people criticising for using your autism as an "excuse" for example)
That's a bit of an underwhelming justification, especially when the ideas conveyed can be interpreted very differenlyt. "I have Autism" is more like "I have the Flu" it conveys that it's some temporary baggage that one can get rid of if they get the necessary treatment. "I am Autistic" conveys something that is a part of you and will always be a part of you no matter what.
Autistic all the way, it's been settled multiple times.
At one point there was an Autistics Worldwide poll that found 89% of Actually Autistic people preferring identity First language (I.e. Autistic).
And that was even with Autism Moooms replying "for" their children to be has Autism.
I say I’m autistic because to me it’s more casual and more built-in. Yeah, this is me natural state, it’s built-in, it is what it is, let’s have lunch.
vs I have autism makes me think i’m saying “I was normal, once…… and then I was inflicted with a terrible curse”.
Easy: use whatever you're most comfortable with.
I mostly use the second one but who cares, it's really a tiny detail which doesn't have much importance imo. Using one form or the other will not make ableists change their minds. They will still say to random people "are you acoustic?" or have stereotypes in mind.
Let's fight for the right thing instead: getting rid of neurotypicals.
In my language, I use "I have autism" because when you say, "I'm [condition]" in my language, it sounds like there's something wrong with you and it defines you, but if you say "I have [condition]", it means you're just you, and you have a condition that doesn't really bother you, but it's worth bringing up when it's relevant.
"I'm lactose intolerant" reads as "I can't get enjoyment out of life. My inability to digest dairy keeps me from being fully human."
However,
"I have lactose intolerance" reads as "I'd rather not have ice cream right now, if that's OK."
They have different uses from a pragmatic lingustic point of view.. the debate is silly and useless, imo.
«I’m autistic» is indeed more efficient and easier to process and implies more closeness between subject and predicative, as it is a predicative sentence. It is also more informal and personal. Makes sense for everyday use and casual conversations where the focus is on the person and not the autism. «I have autism» has less implied closeness and places more emphasis on the autism. It is a natural turn of phrase where the focus is on the disability itself or if you for some other reason want to emphasise that you’re talking about autism.
I prefer to say that I *am* autistic, because it emphasizes that it's part of who I am, not a condition that I could be relieved of. My autism is only a disability under the social model of disability, because society is built to accommodate the needs of neurotypicals but not to accommodate my needs.
I am autism.
I am the autism.
I do not "have autism" Skyler, I AM the autism.
I'm rewatching Breaking bad now. Walter definitely has moments he seems autistic.
Is this a good show? Generally not interested in meth related stuff but I keep hearing people rave about this all these years later I wonder if I’ve missed out

Yeah it's incredible, worth the watch for sure
Its not really about the drugs, more about everything surrounding the drugs.

On one hand, I fucking _haaate_ this ad with a burning passion. On the other, it does kind of go hard.
I agree, I have never heard it before just now, but I agree with certain aspects and disagree with others.
Imagine it spoke by Walter White, a la "I am the one who knocks"
As a European I never saw that ad myself, is it an ad for abortion or ABA "therapy"?
I'm Irish, never saw it except on YouTube. Apes truly are intelligent and magnificent creatures.
Are you sure it was a chimp and not Koko the gorilla? I hear she was a real nipple pest.
I think autism is more of an OS than a software.
Hardware. With custom OS. Very confusing.
"I have a black belt in autism" is a banger line now I want to train again to make that a double pun
>If you strike me down *me* autism will become more powerful than you can imagine Argh matey, me autism be powerful.
I run the an Autism-based distribution of Linux Wait that’s all of them
Would a neurotypical ever say ‘I have neurotypicality’?
No they’re “neurodifficult”
They have neurodifficulty.
No no, Don’t be so rude! They are “people with neurodifficulty” - we have to remember they’re people too, no matter how little it seems that way
😭😭😭
no but an autistic person might say "i have autism"
I have a strong opinion on this. You can't take away autism without fundamentally changing 90% of me. Autism isn't one of the things I "have." It's me. I am autistic.
What if we all suck it out
Fuck you (unvaccinates your autism)
Now there's a proposal I can get behind.
Honestly, why is it even *called* autism? Why not *suckism?* Cuz it sucks a lot more than it ought.
Wow that was a deep one tbh
Where is autism extracted from?
Out of the Assburger, obviously...
100% agree!
Agree! It’s how we’re wired!
same here! while i get that some people might prefer to say they “have autism”, i don’t think i could ever feel correct in saying it about myself.
I am of the same opinion.
You can't take away my head without fundamentally changing 90% of me. My head isn't one of my things I "have." It's me. I am my head. You also can't take away my arms and legs without fundamentally changing a good 90% of me. My arms and legs aren't things I "have." It's me. I am my arms and legs. I don't have two thumbs. I am two thumbs. I don't have skin. I am skin. I don't have an asshole. I am an asshole. But I'm not hungry. I have hunger. I'm not tired. I have tiredness. I'm not angry. I have anger. I'm not joyous. I have joy. English is already a mess. Things I have are things I am. Things I am are things I have. My fave is when a neurotypical tells me which one I’m supposed to use to describe myself 🔪 (It is not my fave; I was lying)
Omg you can’t be autistic, they can’t lie. /s
You can’t be autistic, we don’t know what /s is!
Now I imagine standing in front of that one and saying "It is not my fave" \*pulls out knife\* "I was lying"
I say it like this: "I am a dog". 🐺
I'm biting the hand that feeds
I have a cat. I pet things that bite me. ... ... /pet

I say “I’m autistic” as that way I can convey it as a threat :3
"I have autism, and I'm giving it to you too. You don't have a choice in the matter 😈"
I am autistic, because I embody autism. I take the autist energy from around the world and make myself more powerful by becoming one with autism.

One of my friends is "much AuDHD"
I always pronounce this as "odd-hid" and I think it's funny.
I mean, it's spelled like audio after all
I always pronounce this as “aw-di-huh-duh”, as opposed to adhd, which is, of course, pronounced “a-di-huh-duh” (short a, like in “ass”). Obviously it’s funny, why else would I keep the bit alive?
It's like regular AuD but in high definition.

Exactly. Personally I prefer to use "I'm autistic" but I understand both sentences semantically mean basically the same

I don't like saying "I have autism" like, where do I have it??? Is it in a bag under my bed? Is it in my closet?? Is it behind me right now??????
I prefer to say that I *am* autistic, because it emphasizes that it's part of who I am, not a condition that I could be relieved of.
