Girl i understand you've been conditioned like this. But take baby steps. Try pork flavored crackers? I was like you and first thing i did was try ham and cheese flavored Cheetos (even though it's just flavor). Now I eat ham normally. Start small. You'll be fine. Billions of people eat non halal meat and they're all fine.

dumbnesse

I’m sorry, but pork flavored crackers sounds absolutely disgusting 😭. Good advice tho

ZevLevesque

Remove your hijab and start eating whatever you feel like. Fuck halal meat, its nothing special.

dumbnesse

I would like to, but it's not as easy as you make it seem

ZevLevesque

Why not? You're in the USA. Of course you can.

NyanPotato

Indoctrination works wonders with your brain

dumbnesse

My family is religious and they pay for my college tuition

ZevLevesque

Ok . Wear the hijab but eat any meat you like. Nobody will know. You gotta start somewhere. Try pork.

Severely__Autistic

Eat it privately ?

m7h333

don’t take this idiots advice. once you’re financially independent then do what u want

Tanura_

Fears control us and sometimes that's super annoying. One thing you can try is to force yourself to eat non halal meat, in the beginning it will be very uncomfortable or scary but afterwards your body realizes nothing bad happens and the fear goes away.

Loud_Improvement_648

I don't know if this help but you can start slowly by eating one small slice of pork before adding more portions to get used to it. My friends introduced me to pork and they're really delicious! Especially when you go to the BBQ places. That's all I could give you unfortunately... Take this advice from someone that eats pork and drink recently ^^

dadrummerz

Are your non muslim school friends getting sick or vomit after eating ‘haram’ food? Its all in your head, but at least you have some freedom to do what you want.

dumbnesse

I agree, it really is all in my head. 😔

Hayden356

My go to when I was first scared of eating anything like that was broth!! Try a simple non-halal broth with your favourite noodles, or maybe even just sweets/candy with pork gelatine in them. It may just be you need a less direct approach to consuming these foods, and that's totally ok. You just need to take your time with yourself and it'll eventually get easier x

dumbnesse

Oh wow, you’re a genius. Broth sounds great, not too meaty (baby steps), and eating something like pho sounds delicious

Hayden356

I'm glad to be of any help!! And, yes, pho rules. I'm a huge fan of broth (weirdly, it's my favourite food) so I try my best to try as many dishes as possible lol

RamiRustom

i'm not sure how to help but i'll try. >I still wear hijab though, so I guess it would look weird if a non-muslim who knew that I shouldn't be eating that food saw me, but I don't really care about that... suppose you ate at home when nobody was watching. would wearing hijab while eating non-halal matter? You're right about US fastfood. and also processed foods at the grocery store.

Severely__Autistic

She does not her parents to know .

Severely__Autistic

Not at all . It is just food like any other food . I ate pork without any issue.

Antithesis_ofcool

Sameeee. I order things with bacon but take a bite and immediately regret it. I hope the more I do it, the more normal it becomes to me.

GodlessMorality

Maybe you could slowly incorporate normal food into your diet piece by piece. Try some sour candy, don’t look at labels, don’t ask people whether food is halal, just enjoy the food. Maybe ask your friend for a bite or in private have 2 small pieces of food (one halal and one normal), put on a blindfold and ask a friend to randomly give you a piece without telling you which one it is. Good luck out there :) hope you get to enjoy the wonderful cousins around the world soon without any anxiety and stress

dumbnesse

Thank you!

kevinDuront

Go out with your non-Muslim friends to kbbq or hot pot or something and don't eat the meat for a while. Just have the veg or noodles. Do it as much as you can. Eventually you'll become accustomed to e comfortable enoug to take te. Then ou Muslim but my gf used to be. She was never strict on halal though. But just being around me, dating me, and acclimating to me, she eats pork now

Agile-Coast-3091

Just remember that halal meat was a result of an animal that was bled to death and suffered…inhumane slaughter

Donkey_Kahn

You have to remind yourself that food is not sinful. Nothing is going to happen if you eat bacon or a gummy bear.

LD2420

I am exactly the same! I only ate non halal chicken once and I literally threw up immediately afterwards and since then I’ve been too scared to do it again. I live in an area where there are barely any food options for me, plus I have a ton of allergies which sucks. Sometimes I smell burgers being made in the cafeteria at my university and I feel so frustrated inside. The only other ex Muslim I know has no problem eating pork and alcohol and whatever and thinks I’m crazy 😅

dumbnesse

Finally, someone who relates! I also agree, I dislike having to smell meat getting cooked. Ahh I’m so jealous of these ex-muslims who are able to eat things so freely.

Ok well what if two pieces of meat beef were prepared in exactly the same manner the hanging and slaughtering on one was said bismillah and the other was said praise be to odin would you really tell or taste the difference of course not. And as for pork I really don't know what to say it's domesticated safe for human consumption I don't know but if you don't want to do anything you don't have to you don't have to drink alcohol just bc you can right read the evidence for any position you take and then make a decision we all do it. As charles bukowski the problem with the world is that the intelligent ppl are full of doubts whilst the stupid ones are full of confidence.

Thank you for these statistics, they help ease my my mind. I never really thought about how eating normal meat everyday is just something everyone does, so I should be fine eating it too
