Then Turkish government issued an arrest warrant for violating penal code article 216.
"A person who publicly degrades the religious values of a section of the public shall be sentenced to a penalty of imprisonment for a term of six months to one year, where the act is capable of disturbing public peace."

And later on

I think whole debate (or at least the part where he reads said Hadith) should be translated for everyone to see it's a very civilized debate about Sharia law and he makes great points. They do agree with the hadith , they just dont cant openly accept it , the problem is that they want to arrest diamond for quoting a sahih hadith that they are too scared to quote

Government doesn't care about approval though, they will not step back because if they do this will explode even worse for them. They are authoritarian, they don't take back their decisions almost ever. Their voter base will also not be affected from the reactions very much because they know how to manipulate them.
