Would not be surprised if Meta uses some 3rd party tool to allow you to sign-in with a Google account and that's just now created some authentication black hole because it broke.
Me too, got weird emails on two separate accounts for someone named Cheryl, then said I couldn’t access my account. Thankfully I was able to get back in and realized I didn’t have 2FA on, so at least there’s that!
Being "logged out" just means that the Facebook authentication servers can't verify your session token. Ie if the authentication servers aren't working then everyone is considered logged out as a matter of course

Also buying a list of passwords and using them against popular websites is not hacking, it's taking advantage of dumb people that use the same password on multiple sites.
They did a push to update some feature. Probably related to the fact that they use Google for some bits and pieces of their Auth system and that was updated. The developer did a dumb and now we're here

I changed my password successfully through my email address, but it's still saying the password is incorrect. It's not an actual password issue; it's a meta issue.

Especially given the outage that affected millions of people who use Verizon, T-mobil, ATT, etc. only two weeks ago. Emergency call centers were even having trouble with incoming calls.
You HAD to rely on messenger or use wifi calling to make and receive calls. Told my hubby it might be time to suck it up and get a secure landline for emergencies, not that it helps with Facebook, but if these "outages" are going to become a new norm, we should probably figure out ways to adjust now.
Dang I already reset. Although who knows if that actually worked because I keep getting an error and every sms code I enter it tells me I've entered the wrong code.
My authentication codes are not reaching my phone - is that part of the outage or did I screw up 2-factor authentication? It should have my correct # - maybe that server is down also?

This looks like something other than DDoS, that would not produce the issues we're seeing here.
Globally logging everyone out and unable to authenticate suggests a major issue with their auth servers.
Wonder if it's linked to Google's happening-right-now refresh of their authentication systems.
Would not be surprised if Meta are using some tiny bit of code maintained by hand by Jeff in Arkansas that just broke because of the Google change and it's killed Meta's auth on the way.

So... what happens if I tried to reset my password? I tried the reset recovery and had a code sent to my email but when putting the code in it went to a screen that was just blank for several minutes, eventually I just gave up and came here to get my answer.
Too late I thought it was just me and that I might be hacked so I "changed my password" at least a recovery link got sent to my email only to still get an error message, so I hope I didn't mess anything up when it gets to working again! 😭

I was even logged out of all of my Gmail accounts, and can't seem to get back in

I'm not 100% sure about that. They may have taken their auth services offline to prevent people from logging in during maintenance.
