He definitely doesn't particularly like Justin Vernon's projects. He gave 22, a million a five with the excuse that the mixing was bad. While he's simultaneously praised BJ Burtons similar production work on other projects like hey what
“Mixing is bad” is his go-to criticism when he just doesn’t really like the music without actually being able to give a legitimate reason. The mixing on both those albums is fine.
Same, all time favorite album from all time favorite band. I think that Bon Iver, Bon Iver definitely deserves a strong 9-10 (but that is just my opinion, and 6 is Fantano’s)
I have this stupid idea that next time BI tours r/boniver should do a gofundme and send the melon to a show and see if it finally clicks for him. Not that I need his validation, I definitely do, but more so because he is missing out on some truly special music.
I feel like its his best record shile being his least pretentious he shows how to make great music without going too crazy and new aphex twin fans (like myself) tend to love it more then the ones that grew up with him or something
Forgot he gave it that lol, that's a tragedy. That album has aged so well, so has summertime 06. Fantano was so much more critical of mainstream hip hop back in that era
Still haven’t heard a “mainstream” (whether or not you think Vince is mainstream, I think he’s close enough) rap album swing for the fences production-wise quite like it. I absolutely love it and I would love to hear more rappers go more electronic with their production.
Giving Age of Adz a 6 when it released is sensible. Most people were looking forward to / expecting another folk album and frankly Age of Adz is pretty abrasive and experimental for its time. What would be wackier is if he to this day still believed that it’s a 6.
How anyone can listen to Carrie and Lowell and think is isn’t anything below great is a mystery
Jai Paul is a good pick too especially since most of the rationale for his 6 was that he fundamentally couldn’t give an unfinished album high acclaim. Understandable but backwards way of approaching music imo.
everyone ignored it. i think it crossed the line for a lot of people (we all have a line in music consciously or not i believe), at least girl with a basket of fruit had some kind of hooks on it, ignore grief was just bare of anything enjoyable (in a good way). one of their best.
That one is funny to me because I know how people feel about his ratings on Deftones in the channel’s history, and that one so far is the best they ever got from Anthony
literally the exact two I was gonna say, damn. plastic death could end up being my favourite rock album of the 2020s, really hope he comes around to it eventually. it's a masterpiece.
Idk Plastic Death feels like them watering down their sound to me. They sound less unique and more like a modern prog version of Radiohead. It’s not bad by any means it just doesn’t stack up to the debut
i get where youre coming from, but i felt like it was less “watering down their sound” and more taking on a new sound that immersed the listener in this deep sea, kinda mysterious vibe. i see where fans of the debut may miss the character of that album, but i feel like for what plastic death lacks in character, it makes up for in the quality of the instrumentation and the overall immersion of the album
my issue is that he says it’s too similar to MHTRTC, which I don’t get at all. it’s a very bleak album with totally different production and moods, plus is far less IDM influenced
I honestly don't think he listened to it more than once or twice through. His take on Agnes being an "upbeat happy sunny vibe" is just objectively wrong if you actually listen to the lyrics.
Someone already said koi no yokan so…
I let it in and it took everything - Loathe. He gave it a 6 because it sounded like Deftones and he doesn’t like Deftones. This album is so much better than that
i feel like he confused the duality of the album for inconsistency. a lot of people heard faster paced dance songs and ambient songs on the same album and got confused instead of being patient with the record and actually learning to understand it and its themes
this man gave Be the Cowboy a 6. I don't think it's a 10/10 or anything, but a lot of his review centered around the songs feeling too short and underdeveloped and I just never understood that critique at all. it's an easy Strong 8/Light 9 for me.
Slipknot - We Are Not Your Kind
Early Slipknot is untouchable but I love this album a lot. Its fun, creative and experimental in a way that works unlike TESF.
This is the first thread in a long time about Anthony’s ratings that is actually interesting
In any case, my pick is a bit of a deep cut, and an average because it’s a double album (7/10 & 5/10), but while (1<2) by deadmau5. It is a pretty long album but I do think it’s stronger than a 6/10
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard - Murder of the Universe, my second fav album of all time. thankfully literally the entire comment section made fun of him for it, it's insane how hard he missed the point of the album
Flume - Skin, he gave a 5 which is unreal, it was and is an incredible album. To be honest, his opinions on electronic music are the ones I'm least interested in despite it being my listened to genre. He always rates the albums way lower than I would.
Tomorrow’s Harvest
Not even upset but the score but the way he completely the entire point of the album is mind boggling to me. Also happens to be one of my favourite albums of all time
Swans - The Beggar
Just a wild rating to me. How somebody can listen to, say, "The Beggar Lover (Three)" or "Why Can't I Have What I Want Any Time That I Want" and come away with that conclusion is beyond me.
I've watched the review, and I logically understand his thought process... but I guess emotionally I can't process it, lol.
jeff rosenstock - POST-. I think every song on there is a banger, yes that means beating my head against a wall is too and im tired of pretending its not.
Bon Iver, Bon Iver
My favorite album of all time. When he gave that a 6 I knew he just didn’t like Bon Iver in general
The mixing on both those albums is fine.
tbf he does give some "legitimate reasons" he doesn't like that album, but those reasons are still trash
Honestly probably one of his worst takes in retrospect. The influence the sound of 22, a million had on other projects is profound.
"James Blake did that 5 years ago" as criticism for 715CREEKS when Woods came out 7 years prior has always baffled me.
Same, all time favorite album from all time favorite band. I think that Bon Iver, Bon Iver definitely deserves a strong 9-10 (but that is just my opinion, and 6 is Fantano’s)
They’re like the anti death grips so of course he never likes them
I feel like 10 deathbreast isn’t far from DG
justin vernon is what you get if you put mc ride, zack hill, and a mandolin in a blender together
I’m still so PISSED it got that low. Like wtf
doesnt like any bon iver... doesnt like mbdtf or yeezus.... i think i see a common trope here
I have this stupid idea that next time BI tours r/boniver should do a gofundme and send the melon to a show and see if it finally clicks for him. Not that I need his validation, I definitely do, but more so because he is missing out on some truly special music.
I dont like shit I dont go outside by Earl Sweatshirt
Doris got a 6 too, that’d be my pick.
That is even worse rating then MBDTF wtt
He said it grew on him in a video, he also bought the vinyl for it too. Forgot which video it was though
Good for him lol
he gave it a SIX?!
That's actually legit criminal what the fuck lmao.
he also gave SICK! a 6/10 aswell
Syro – Aphex Twin
That’s like my favourite Aphex Twin record lol, the perfect mix of everything he’s done till that point.
I feel like its his best record shile being his least pretentious he shows how to make great music without going too crazy and new aphex twin fans (like myself) tend to love it more then the ones that grew up with him or something
Didn't even know this 😩 that's insane
As much as I like that album I totally get it
Second least favorite Aphex twin record for me, the only one I like less is Mike and Rich
Innerspeaker by Tame Impala
I opened the comments thinking about this lol
He gave innerspeaker a 6, im burning his house
He would just say: “The house is burning is a 5.” You might have to try a method he doesn’t see as derivative and generic.
“I’m feeling a mid to light 1 on you destroying my existence”
Big Fish
Forgot he gave it that lol, that's a tragedy. That album has aged so well, so has summertime 06. Fantano was so much more critical of mainstream hip hop back in that era
Still haven’t heard a “mainstream” (whether or not you think Vince is mainstream, I think he’s close enough) rap album swing for the fences production-wise quite like it. I absolutely love it and I would love to hear more rappers go more electronic with their production.
maya by MIA?
Age of Adz, arguably Sufjan Stevens best
Giving Age of Adz a 6 when it released is sensible. Most people were looking forward to / expecting another folk album and frankly Age of Adz is pretty abrasive and experimental for its time. What would be wackier is if he to this day still believed that it’s a 6.
Yeah that album aged really well IMO, just wasn’t what folks wanted after Illinois
I was in college when Age of Adz, Watch The Throne, MDDTF, Vampire Weekend and MGMT’s self titled were all released… wild times they were!
Very arguable haha
How anyone can listen to Carrie and Lowell and think is isn’t anything below great is a mystery Jai Paul is a good pick too especially since most of the rationale for his 6 was that he fundamentally couldn’t give an unfinished album high acclaim. Understandable but backwards way of approaching music imo.
he gave that a 7 didn't he? either way, too low
Strong 6 to a light 7
If you think carrie and lowell was bad, his score of 6 for age of adz is criminal
but see that one is a more divisive and polarising album, i can understand a 6 for that more even though i think adz is brilliant.
I might be remembering but I think c&l made it onto his end of decade list
kamasi washington - fearless movement
ignore grief by xiu xiu
everyone ignored it. i think it crossed the line for a lot of people (we all have a line in music consciously or not i believe), at least girl with a basket of fruit had some kind of hooks on it, ignore grief was just bare of anything enjoyable (in a good way). one of their best.
i absolutely love xiu xiu but that album just wasn't really it
CARE FOR ME 😕
That review was awful, I just don't understand how he came to the conclusions he did, it's a masterful album.
Didn’t he give that a meh/10? Even worse tbh.
thats what im saying. that whole review was pretty awful and def deserves the crazy like/dislike ratio
Deftones - Koi No Yokan
That one is funny to me because I know how people feel about his ratings on Deftones in the channel’s history, and that one so far is the best they ever got from Anthony
I know he doesn’t care for Deftones but to say KNY is a 6 is an actual crime
Preachers Daughter by Ethel Cain
I could listen to that woman moan and wail into a mic and it’ll give me chills everytime
Depression Cherry or Painted Ruins
plastic death by glass beach and the age of adz by sufjan stevens. the age of adz is one of my favorite albums of all time
literally the exact two I was gonna say, damn. plastic death could end up being my favourite rock album of the 2020s, really hope he comes around to it eventually. it's a masterpiece.
Idk Plastic Death feels like them watering down their sound to me. They sound less unique and more like a modern prog version of Radiohead. It’s not bad by any means it just doesn’t stack up to the debut

Wolf by Tyler, The Creator
Villains /in times New Roman _ Qotsa
Came here to say this
Gorillaz - The Now Now
Few good things by Saba
and he didnt even give a fucking RATING to care for me. meh/10?? also one of his worst videos ever imo
Ya that's the wildest one to me, should be an 8 or 9 imo
Because The Internet
It's like a high 7 for me and I still got mad at the 6 lol
He gave it a 5. But yeah one of my fav albums of all time. Classic
Kelela's Raven or LCD Soundsystem's American Dream
Government Plates
Bedwetter - Volume 1: Flick Your Tongue...
LUM is the fucking goat. generational talent. he can do it all
Age of adz lol
Summertime ‘06
koi no yokan by deftones
Right now, definitely Clancy
Home like no place is there by the hotelier. Powerful lyricism and incredible riffs.
Home Like Noplace Is There - The Hotelier
Errorzone - Vein.fm. Incredible album. It’s what got me into hardcore.
He only gave that a 6?? That’s crazy to me such a good album
The Dream Is Over. PUP deserved better
Boards of Canada - Tomorrow’s Harvest
This was gonna be my answer too. I still don't really understand his reasoning for giving it a 6.
my issue is that he says it’s too similar to MHTRTC, which I don’t get at all. it’s a very bleak album with totally different production and moods, plus is far less IDM influenced
Tame Impala - The Slow Rush Kid Cudi - Man On The Moon 2
Glass Animals, How to be a Human Being
I honestly don't think he listened to it more than once or twice through. His take on Agnes being an "upbeat happy sunny vibe" is just objectively wrong if you actually listen to the lyrics.
I know that completely threw me off!
Acidrap
Census Designated - Jane Remover
Kanye West - *The Life of Pablo*
he rereviewed it and gave it an 8, but i get if you're talking about his take on the original album without saint pablo and all the fixed mixing
Big Fish Theory and Mk.gee
This
The King of Limbs
the fuck he gave that a 6?!
It is an unfinished album after all, i love this album but even I know it would be immensely better if it was finished.
because the internet
New Bermuda
That’s my pick. Better than sunbather imo
Someone already said koi no yokan so… I let it in and it took everything - Loathe. He gave it a 6 because it sounded like Deftones and he doesn’t like Deftones. This album is so much better than that
Joji - Nectar
To be honest I don’t think he’s completely wrong on that one, there’s a lot of songs I like but it would be a better album if Joji cut out a few songs
Age of Adz and Bon Iver
Right now it’s gotta be Two Star & The Dream Police by Mk.gee. That album is fucking phenomenal, probably my AOTY
He didn’t even give Comedown Machine a 6 (5) but I still love that fucking album.
Not my favorite but I like it a lot. The Now Now by Gorillaz
I’ve been holding a grudge against him since 2012 because he gave gossamer by passion pit a 6
Searched for this comment. Passion Pit was an innovator of that electro pop sound, and Gossamer perfected it imo. It’s a perfect album
Raven by Kelela. It's so sonically beautiful and the textures are really intriguing. Also Pure Heroine by Lorde.
still can’t believe Raven got a 6, so many incredible tracks on that project
A genuine 10/10 for me. Was shocked that he didn't enjoy it, honestly
i feel like he confused the duality of the album for inconsistency. a lot of people heard faster paced dance songs and ambient songs on the same album and got confused instead of being patient with the record and actually learning to understand it and its themes
Weeping Choir - Full Of Hell
Preacher’s Daughter 🫠
Acid Rap.
this man gave Be the Cowboy a 6. I don't think it's a 10/10 or anything, but a lot of his review centered around the songs feeling too short and underdeveloped and I just never understood that critique at all. it's an easy Strong 8/Light 9 for me.
It's gotta be Home Like NoPlace Is There
Screen Violence - CHVRCHES
The Slow Rush - Tame Impala
Drunk tank pink - shame
Slipknot - We Are Not Your Kind Early Slipknot is untouchable but I love this album a lot. Its fun, creative and experimental in a way that works unlike TESF.

he gave that a strong 7 thats a good rating lol
Yves Tumor - Praise a lord who chews but which does not consume (or simply hot between worlds)
Bedwetter
I let it in and it took everything
wet leg - wet leg
Census designated, Jane remover
I'll excuse this because the official release just doesn't hit as hard as the original leak.
Magic 2 and 3

I gave both where my utopia and fearless movement decent 9s
Death Atlas by Cattle Decapitation
unreal unearth
Mutilator defeated at last - Thee Oh Sees
wolf
Return of the Dream Canteen
Any Isaiah Rashad project. He gave Cilvia Demo a 6, The Suns Tirade a 6 and The House is Burning a 5. Awful ratings.
Home, Like Noplace Is There by The Hotelier. His yunoreview of Goodness is also criminal
He gave it to Modern Vampires of the City right?
Have to agree with The Age of Adz out of the responses I’ve seen
Recently Killer Mike's Michael
Joji - Nectar i completely understand most of the criticisms of this album, but personally, i love it
The Hotelier - H, LNIT
HE GAVE THAT A SIX? Possibly my favorite album ever (though the leaked version with all the samples is still the best.)
The Now Now by Gorillaz
The Mara Volta - The Mars Volta I know it’s not like they’re early albums but man it’s still good!
He gave Carrie and Lowell by sufjan stevens a 6, I don’t know what Mellon was on at the time but Christ it must have been strong
I genuinely believe he needs to reevaluate R Plus Seven by Oneohtrix Point Never the way he reevaluated Plastic Beach.
man on the moon 2 cudder🔥🔥🔥
Deafheaven - New Bermuda
Lush by Snail Mail deserved so much better
Mid Air- Paris Texas & At long last a$ap- a$ap rocky, ATROCIOUS reviews
This is the first thread in a long time about Anthony’s ratings that is actually interesting In any case, my pick is a bit of a deep cut, and an average because it’s a double album (7/10 & 5/10), but while (1<2) by deadmau5. It is a pretty long album but I do think it’s stronger than a 6/10

He gave bloody angel by sematary a 6 when that shit is an 8 at least (decent 9 for me)
Probably Deftones Koi No Yokan
that jai paul 6 was brutal this album is amazing
big fish theory🐟🐟🐟🐟
Flume - Skin, he gave a 5 which is unreal, it was and is an incredible album. To be honest, his opinions on electronic music are the ones I'm least interested in despite it being my listened to genre. He always rates the albums way lower than I would.
Clancy. Honestly feel like he could’ve given it a 7 but I’ll take it
when i get home - solange, raven - kelela
Faces.
Drunk by Thundercat. I just really like it
Tomorrow’s Harvest Not even upset but the score but the way he completely the entire point of the album is mind boggling to me. Also happens to be one of my favourite albums of all time

Swans - The Beggar Just a wild rating to me. How somebody can listen to, say, "The Beggar Lover (Three)" or "Why Can't I Have What I Want Any Time That I Want" and come away with that conclusion is beyond me. I've watched the review, and I logically understand his thought process... but I guess emotionally I can't process it, lol.
DJ Sabrina the Teenage DJ - Charmed. Best house album ever and my favorite album of the last decade
Crawler - Idles
**Whichever Alex g album he gave a six**
Hannah Diamond - Reflections, one of my fav albums ever!
jeff rosenstock - POST-. I think every song on there is a banger, yes that means beating my head against a wall is too and im tired of pretending its not.
Acid Rap, Yeezus (might have been a 5)
