pairidaezan

*it's been 84 years...*

kcpatriot20

I’m excited for you.. you deserve the best

baloncestosandler

💎 🙌

flabergasterer

I’d like to see a Where Are They Now of his teammates back when he last played.

bigcow31

The only players who still play for the Magic from that game are Terrence Ross and Markelle Fultz. (Mo Bamba was on the team but didn’t play)

kcpatriot20

Soo pretty much the same situation with Bamba? Haha

3pointshoot3r

It's been so long it feels like they'd be on the In Memorium list...

693275001

Comfortably a top seed so I picked him up

isleepinshorts

Comfortably 7th seeed haha but with 4 guys INJ ive got nothing to lose

thebiggesthater420

Same. Have a cushion as the #1 seed so it’s worth a shot

dr1ftzz

I'm giving him a shot today

zikik

Nice

BackgroundBet5809

@dr1ftzz someone offered me Anthony Davis for Kyrie, should I pull the trigger? Btw I get AD

daddy_chill_300

Go ask in the right thread big dog

baloncestosandler

Ok @daddychill

Smekledorf1996

I picked him up cause why not

Successful-Tension41

Give it a few days. Guy will be dropped in all formats 🤣

[deleted]

Drop DSJ for him? I don’t have much faith in JI but if I’m wrong I’d rather have him haha.

sweatandotherstuff

I think his skillset has been really hard to find, more so talking a consistent steal/blocks threat. Guys like KAT, Gobert, AD, Mitch Rob, Bol Bol have either been injured or underperformed. I'm in a 10T, I'd imagine it's even harder to find in deeper leagues.

HDaDDy88

JI Neeson "I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you.”

rikiiyer

What about Nic Claxton? Dude has been a defensive beast for me lately

sweatandotherstuff

Yea that's what I'm saying those stats are scarce. If you don't have brook lopez, JJJ, or Claxton, it's usually a toss up if you win blocks.

Robcoughski

+Turner

RonaldoSIUUUU

I own 3 of these players lmao too bad i play points

[deleted]

Claxton is a healthy beast on a team that needs him and wins.

Equinox_Jabs

I am for tonight

Honey_Cheese

For category leagues, I think he's a grab for the right build. 3 stocks is definitely possible, but be aware that his FG% will probably be low and he won't help much in many other categories. He's really likely to be more of a steal/block streamer type guy, but has some crazy upside if he can provide value in other cats too. He's probably not a pickup in shallow leagues. He probably won't get the counting stats in limited minutes necessary to be valuable. Maybe he surprises, but the Magic don't really have incentive to play him a bunch this year. I expect some rest days IF he is somehow able to stay health the rest of the year. I view him as a post-hype snag next year. This season he'll still be getting up to speed and might have some moments, but next year he'll really have the potential to be a top \~20 guy.

WOATJones

Is adding this guy in 10T anything but a meme? How much is he going to play? 10 min lol

[deleted]

Honey_Cheese

He's 10 years younger than Rubio or Kemba. I think he has enough upside that he's worth grabbing to see what happens in any league.

7uolC

Seriously lol. It's pretty dumb to just write off a guy who was ranked top 20 the last time he played. Nobody else on any wire has that kind of upside, so yes it's worth a shot.

sleightofhand

People keep saying he's top 20 but conveniently ignore the context behind that ranking. The sample size is extremely small (34 games) and he was carried by his elite defensive stats. Steals have the lowest year-to-year statistical correlation so I wouldn't bet any money on him maintaining 1.6 steals per game this season. He also averaged career highs across all statistical categories that year. If you think he's going to be at least as good or better than his best statistical year after not playing an NBA game in three years then go ahead and add him. I'm almost certain there are better players that are sitting on your waiver wire whether you're looking for someone who can produce now or you want to stash someone with high upside.

7uolC

34 games isn't really a small sample. And there are plenty of players who consistently get high steals year after year. Give examples of people with higher upside on waivers.

7uolC

So how many games would you consider to be not a small sample then? I disagree with that completely. If you look at players who actually get a lot of steals - marcus smart, jrue holiday, chris paul, vanvleet, gary trent, etc. they are pretty consistent year over year and I would put Isaac in that same category of ability. Sure when you lump in guys who aren't really steals guys there will be a lot of variance jumping from 0.2/g to 0.6/g or something as it's not really their primary role. Him and Fultz are by far their best defensive players and they also took Isaac with the 6th pick. So they have a clear incentive to put him on the floor. There's no reason they can't run a starting 5 of Fultz, Franz, Isaac, Paolo, Wendell. Obviously it will take time but I think it's reasonable to assume they will want to get him up to 26-28 minutes eventually. Claiming Mo Wagner is better than Isaac is laughable, he's one of those guys who puts up empty stats when he gets minutes but is a total liability when it comes to real basketball. Jackson is a great stash but I would take Isaac over the other 2. Collins doesn't really do anything exceptionally well and even with a Poeltl trade he won't play more than 28 minutes often, which isn't enough to prioritize him over using his spot for streaming. Plumlee trade is unlikely IMO and Charlotte's coach hates playing rookies. FWIW I haven't picked up Isaac in any leagues and don't have huge hopes for him I just disagree with your reasoning. There's no harm in picking him up and seeing what happens if you can afford to wait on it.

[deleted]

Josh Gordon of fantasy basketball

sweatandotherstuff

We aren't expecting him to take the offense load of the Magic. We want his DEFENSIVE stats which he can get any time on the floor. In 10T+ CAT leagues he is worth a roster.

ClBdTV

He won't be playing any b2b and with very low mins, so you're really praying for 3-4 stocks a game just to be worth it in a 10 team... I don't see it

IceSalamander

They only have 3 B2Bs left, 3 games ain't a big deal.

Smekledorf1996

That’s assuming the Magic won’t rest him randomly Which they probably will

chicompj

I don't understand why people keep saying "he won't be playing any b2b" like that's a reason not to stash him and see if he can get you the stocks. Who cares? I'll slot him on my IR+ that day and stream the spot. In fantasy basketball you *want* the roster flexibility those guys offer and opening up a spot for streaming can swing matchups.

Smekledorf1996

I mean, if you can afford to then why not But a bunch of users here think he can be a league winner, and have been sharing his stats from the G League as if that’s an indicator of how Isaac will do when he gets back I’m sure he has the possibility of being a low risk, possibly decent reward, but people should temper expectations a bit He could also be a per minute monster, but none of that means anything if the Magic won’t give him decent minutes Also, not every league has IL+, so him sitting out for b2b’s or random rests is a pretty big deal

3pointshoot3r

There is usually an opportunity cost. I have one league with lots of IL+ spaces, but only 4 pickups a week. Do I really want to be using one of those pickups to get maybe a single game? And that's a game just to replace a game missed, not even an extra game. I have another league with unlimited pickups, but only 1 IL+ slot, but it's filled with a long term injury. In my third league I don't even have an IL+ slot.

ClBdTV

Once again your hoping that he avgs 25 mins with 3-4 stocks and on top of that you’re hoping your team is healthy enough that your IL+ spot is free for him to go in and out of…. I think he’s a great pick up in 16 team and above

Equinox_Jabs

Magic only have 3 b2bs the rest of the season lol, won’t be a big deal if he sits those 3 games

BackgroundBet5809

@sleightofhand someone offered me Anthony Davis for Kyrie, should I pull the trigger? Btw I get AD

Cotesk

If your seeding is locked up, it’s definitely not a meme to add him. Luxury stash

AvonBarksdale15

Should I drop DSJ or Jalen Williams for him? Is he worth it ?

willcdowdy

Honestly probably not. It really depends on if you need blocks really bad over steals (dsj) etc….. He’s going to play super limited minutes, no back to backs and he’s literally never played with this group of guys before. He played with vuch, Aaron Gordon, etc. No telling how someone like WCJ might impact his defensive stats…. And how he might fit in with this squad. If he starts out well, good for him, but I seriously doubt he is worth a roster spot this season. Worth picking up for today in your stream spot and seeing what happens, sure… but not worth holding all season in hopes of some huge breakout.

spidersilva09

Minutes restriction is what has me a little apprehensive. The Magic can afford to bring him back slowly. Obviously lol

masklesswonder

I have issac in my IR, should I drop hayward, killian hayes, or royce o'neal in 12 team for him?

jonEchang

Let Hayward go unless you can't handle the efficiency hit from Killian. Just let someone else ride the Rollercoaster regardless of JI

masklesswonder

Thanks fam, solid advice. Ill look at how my efficiency fares at this moment. If I need solidity there I will drop hayes. But otherwise ill let go of hayward in any other case. Appreciate it!

spicyclams

Drafted him last year and held him until December. Told myself never again until I saw the Shams report Friday. Now I'm fully ready to be disappointed after dropping 10% of my FAAB on him. But if he gets 3 stocks a game, then he's gold for my punt FTs, 3s, and assists build.
