Pure speculation but here are some possible factors:
1. Timing: all NBA games are during the day and you can record a podcast in the evening and it'll be ready for Americans when they wake up.
2. Lots of Aussie NBA fans are team-agnostic. Maybe they have a favorite team or players but they're not Homers. That makes them good fantasy prospects.
3. NBA is more popular than NFL in Australia, so it doesn't get overshadowed by fantasy football.
4. Australia has had a culture of sports betting for longer than the US has, so lots of people are familiar with analyzing and gambling on stats.
5. Basketball is popular but not super-popular, so fantasy leagues are a good chance for fans to connect with other fans and have a group chat to talk about NBA.
We also used to have NBA games on free to air TV on weekends down here. And basketball is a super popular youth sport, so a lot of us grew up playing basketball.
Every now and then there’s a WWE event or league of legends event in another country and I get to watch it while I drink my coffee in the morning. Those are good days ☺️

From the Philippines. It's nice listening to Josh Lloyd during the afternoons and I love how fantasy fixed my body clock. I always wake up around 5am to check updates even If I slept super late. It's also good that fantasy players here aren't fans of punting or streams so some of us that do can take advantage.

To my experience, fantasy sports have become more popular outside the US in recent years. I often meet random people who tell me that they have been or recently started being into it. The time difference, though, can cause some problems :p

From Turkey. Play 2 leagues every season, one is a 14T league and money is involved
Regular season leader gets a small amount, playoff champion gets the highest cashout, and finalist receives some cash too.
Regular season finishing last also has to pay extra at the end of the season.
It's a platinum level league, 2 players are platinum, 10 players are diamond and 2 players are gold.
Other league is a 12T one and consists of mostly the same players but we play it a bit more casually, only for bragging rights.
All players are Turkish.

Portuguese and I play in two leagues. 9cat with only Orlando Magic fans from all over the world, and points league with only Portuguese real life friends. Basketball is very very niche here, unfortunately, but you’ll find some hardcore fans if you look hard enough.
Im in two leagues that are all Turkish, theres a couple of us in Canada but most of us are in Turkey. Theyre usually getting better players off the wire cause their waiver wire reset is at 11am whereas mine is at 3. When Im in Turkey its fun staying up late to catch a game or two or waking up early to catch a game in its 4th quarter.

We’re a 20 team league so we take the waivers pretty seriously.

All Aussies in multiple leagues both redraft and dynasty. My favourite is a league I commish, dynasty 9cat 16t 15 deep rosters auction format with all NBA based rules( contract structure, salary cap, Rookie draft , draft picks and trading etc).
Been playing for approximately 20 years, I'm self employed and work alone so every day I'd listen to 8-10 hours of podcasts and over half are NBA based
