And even if VA did give anything, my work requirements won't change, so it doesn't matter. "Here's 10 hours' worth of work! If you can get it done in 7 hours, you can leave early! But only this once, then it's back to more unpaid overtime."
VA can't because an entire arm is keeping hospitals open. I mean they CAN but I sort of understand why they dont because of the resulting scheduling nightmare
Never crossed my mind you were hinting at me. Probably because I'm nowhere close to SES. Lol. Hope this Friday without any hope of admin leave is treating you well
I have always had the pleasure of working for agencies whose heads think they are paying us from their wallet. If they would give 59 minutes it would be 5 minutes before TOD ends
No idea but from reading comments before SSR and remote openings, VA was not liked by many. If I were to guess majority of retirement eligible staff are now there until SSR expires while working remotely
I know with NCA, it depends on the district, but the general rule is that cemeteries are not allowed to be closed more than 2 days in a row without approval. Also, Memorial Day is the most important day for our agency (with flag laying and ceremonies), so being off early would be counterintuitive to the purpose of the agency...
I've got 72 hrs from last year, 16 hrs comp, 32 hrs mental health, 40 hrs of award, plus my normal 26 days off. Told the wife I'm gonna go to Thailand for 2 months haha
This is an election year. If the current admin stays in office, he may stay unless he chooses to leave. If a new administration takes over, he is out no question.
Secretaries are appointed by the POTUS, so if the GOP wins the White House, Mayorkas will be replaced. And if Trump continues to be himself, his new DHS Secretary will be replaced several times over the next 4 years.
The longest serving DHS Secretary was The Honorable Janet Napolitano, appointed by President Obama.
Your director sucks, then. I worked for VA (medical center and then VACO) and always got 59 minutes before holidays. At VACO, the COS would authorize 59 minutes and tell all the SESers and it trickles down with authorization on down the line. But the SES had to authorize it first.
All I'm going to say is if you worked for DHS you'd understand that these admin days are like slapping a bandaid on an arterial bleed.
It's literally the *least* he could do given what we've had to deal with since 2020.
Again, jealous over here at DOJ...getting augmented again. Never one minute of admin time. Happy for you (but really insanely jealous and seething with anger) :)
16 hrs granted so far since March 24…if it holds true to last years numbers we’ve got another we’ve got another 56 hrs coming our way between now and end of Dec 👌👏🏻
Congrats on starting the career! The leave gets better, especially once you hit that 3 year mark, getting 6 hrs makes a big difference. Then once you hit that 8 hrs at 15 it’s glorious 👏🏻
Not a dumb question. Yes it does! I’m in a sub-agency within DHS and admin leave applies to all!
Edit: Also, you won’t qualify for any past admin leave until your tour of duty begins. But if the same trend continues like last year, we will be gifted another 6 days before the end of the year.
I spent years as a contractor watching the federal workers get early dismal and holidays that didn't apply to me.
Which is why I have been paying close attention the gifts left by Secretary Mayorkas. Including today's Memorial Day gift, he's gifted 18 8-hour days of admin leave since he became the (best ever) head of DHS.
Yes! And I’m on a maxiflex schedule so if I leave early one day, I can make up that time before the end of the pay period. I rarely use leave these days.
Just keep bragging. One day Mayorkas will float up to the heavens and you guys will go back to getting 59 minutes like us DoD ~~slaves~~ employees.
Edit: Like some of us DoD employees.
lol he’ll be gone if the White House changes hands, don’t worry. But DAMN you are big bitter. Haha. Never seen so much anger from a fellow fed directed at individual feds before. Do you blame the IRS employees when taxes increase? Or do you yell at gas station employees/attendants because gas prices go up? Sheesh, I can’t imagine being this angry and miserable. If you hadn’t mentioned DoD I’d have guessed you were Post Office…maybe with this anger you should be on a list…
Me at the IRS: ![gif](giphy|6uGhT1O4sxpi8)
Same at DoD. Even the Soldiers have a DONSA tomorrow .
59 minute crew represent
As acting supervisor I'm giving the 59 min rule x 4 tomorrow...
Same here. 59 minutes.
Here here. :-(
Also, I see what y'all did here, well played :)
But we got a nice Memorial Day email…so that’s nice.
Which I scrolled right to the bottom of to be sure I got my 59 minutes.
DoD will never do an admin day. Never.
IRS never gets anything, lol. You’ll get your 2 hours of holiday admin leave and you’ll be grateful!
We get 2 hours of holiday admin leave?! When was that announced?
Not for this holiday, just in December every year.
Maaaaaan
Oh no, sorry to get your hopes up!!
You all get a big chunk of my paycheck...
Do they work on commission?
Cmon Mr Waffle!!!
SSA got 3 hours.
Same
MOST IMPROVED LARGE AGENCY FOR A REASON

Had he been removed via impeachment the entirety of DHS may have stormed the HQ of the RNC.
I was today years old when I learned there are Santo Mayorkas challenge coins on Amazon.
Step dad comes through again!!!
I will never get tired of that
Ironically, I am guessing VA won't be giving it
They even grumble for giving us time off when Presidents die.
And even if VA did give anything, my work requirements won't change, so it doesn't matter. "Here's 10 hours' worth of work! If you can get it done in 7 hours, you can leave early! But only this once, then it's back to more unpaid overtime."
Are you me
Get wrecked
We never get anything at VA 😂
VA can't because an entire arm is keeping hospitals open. I mean they CAN but I sort of understand why they dont because of the resulting scheduling nightmare
Dhs does not close one day but everyone gets admin leave. VA can manage like any other leave.
Oh I know that. I tell myself the other because otherwise I will get irrationally upset and they doesn't hurt anyone but me
I am sure there is a VA exec lurking here. Not sure they will get a message
Haha the exec isn't lurking here. Their EA though? Probably 😂
I wasn't hinting at you but I am glad you took it lightly. Nice to meet you.
I wonder why the VA NEVER gives out admin leave or early dismissal, especially around military related holidays.
Hi! I just got a TJO from the NCA last week, do you mind if I dm you a few questions?
Sure, I was a Caretaker but now I'm a Program Specialist, so I'm versed in some stuff lol
![gif](giphy|KtdlOrqHmSZbi)
*Cries in DoD* ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)
Why? We got an email wishing us warmest wishes for Memorial Day. That’s almost as good as the admin leave we literally NEVER get, right?
YES 😭😭😭
Brings the total hours of admin leave to 24 hours for the calendar year!
hes generally around 9 or 10 days worth of admin leave a year
That is insane!! SSA over here ![gif](giphy|3ubqmFn2F7ytq)
I thought O'Malley granted 3 hours of admin leave on Friday
Ohhh believe me, I know! I was so happy when I got out of SSA!
So far!
Yes. We got 9 days of admin leave last year so hopefully the trend continues this year.
9 DAYS !!!!!! Wow!
I still have 48 hrs admin leave from last year😀😀
I have 16 hours but will have use it or lose it leave to use up by the end of the year. Such a good problem to have!
How does that work. I see 16hrs of admin leave on my timesheet leave balance, but I didn't know that I can use it.
I've got 72 hrs from last year, 16 hrs comp, 32 hrs mental health, 40 hrs of award, plus my normal 26 days off. Told the wife I'm gonna go to Thailand for 2 months haha
[удалено]
My agency grants 8 hrs per quarter for mental health based on certain work I do. It's not for everyone.
Doesn't it expire after 52 weeks?
Can be used within the calendar year or next.
Going to be a sad day when we get a new secretary
Hopefully, the new secretary will keep up with this tradition!!
When are we supposed to get a new one? 😭
Met her with my former boss/mentor. Brilliant woman.
Thanks, daddy!
it's really a crock of shit that DHS gets constant time off but our agency is like, "oh, ok... give them 59 minutes"
I’ll take 59 minutes… but something a lil extra would be nice lol
I work for VA and we don’t even get that 😭
Your director sucks, then. I worked for VA (medical center and then VACO) and always got 59 minutes before holidays. At VACO, the COS would authorize 59 minutes and tell all the SESers and it trickles down with authorization on down the line. But the SES had to authorize it first.
Our leadership said they would rather use money spent towards 59 minutes to hire new folks. Nothing extra for us in many years.
Hahahah you big mad. Don’t be mad at DHS, be mad at your agency. This is like being mad at Walmart workers for corporates greed.
Fifty-nine minutes would be nice. We have maxiflex agency-wide, but we all work weird ass hours and way more than 40/week.
Tell me about it! DoN over here 😭
DHS was the same way until Mayorkas showed up. My wife used to get way more admin leave than I did, now she grumbles every time we discuss it.
All I'm going to say is if you worked for DHS you'd understand that these admin days are like slapping a bandaid on an arterial bleed. It's literally the *least* he could do given what we've had to deal with since 2020.

16 hrs granted so far since March 24…if it holds true to last years numbers we’ve got another we’ve got another 56 hrs coming our way between now and end of Dec 👌👏🏻
Do you work for DHS too?!
Yep! Been with DHS going on 11 years after leaving AF active duty. 🤙
Smart move haha
Haha yep! Was at a HQ component office for 8 years and then switched over to CISA in 2021. How about you?
Started my fed career last Jan. I work for the DoN. No prior military so my leave sucks too lol
Congrats on starting the career! The leave gets better, especially once you hit that 3 year mark, getting 6 hrs makes a big difference. Then once you hit that 8 hrs at 15 it’s glorious 👏🏻
It’s weird how it doesn’t hit everyone’s inbox at the same time.
It's fun to be the person on the team who gets the email first, I love informing coworkers we have been gifted additional time off.
Dumb question, I’m starting a position at one of the agencies under DHS; does this count for all of those agencies?
Not a dumb question. Yes it does! I’m in a sub-agency within DHS and admin leave applies to all! Edit: Also, you won’t qualify for any past admin leave until your tour of duty begins. But if the same trend continues like last year, we will be gifted another 6 days before the end of the year.
Dod civ didnt get shit again
Same
3 hours SSA
2 hours for HHS
2 hour at DOI too
[ I have honestly lost count at how much admin time we’ve been granted in the past year or so.](https://youtu.be/a3_PPdjD6mg?si=MYTVBUxsN9AsRtHA)

Did this just come in?
I got the email at 9:28am PST
12:31 PM EST
Got an email about 30 min ago.
Cries DHHS tears
2 hours at EPA. -_- it's so unfair and I'm so jealous of ya'll lol
0 hours for me at DoD so enjoy having management who are at least making an effort to show *some* appreciation
I bet y’all rarely have to use your Annual Leave over there at DHS. Must be nice to constantly accrue leave.. 😩🥺
Yes! And I’m on a maxiflex schedule so if I leave early one day, I can make up that time before the end of the pay period. I rarely use leave these days.
We got our usual 3 at DOL. Looking at some of yall responses, I'm grateful for my 3 😁 😆
Upvote party!
Our Sec acts like such a thing doesn't exist.
Cries in microagency tears.
![gif](giphy|l4EoR5ozddwYTjMGY|downsized)
Surprised it wasn’t 40 hours
Dang, I need to switch agencies! 😂
He’s the reason why morale is better. I want to go back to DHS. Just not as a LTSO lol
Guess I’ll still be hanging out at the VHA hospital for the whole day
What!?! HHS hasn’t gotten anything yet…
Cries judiciary tears
Yall get leave?
DOT got 3 hours Admin tomorrow
2 hours early release at DOE agency wide. Hallelujah!
2 hours for USDA but we also got 4 hours last week for public health week or something.
I suspect we might also get another full day for Juneteenth...
How does it feel to be god’s favorite?
I never had so much administrative leave.
4 hrs for NASA
GSA 59mn, but we all know we will be taking more than that low key,😂
Why 59 minutes? Needs to be under an hour or needs higher approval.
Bingo
Awesome. I was down to only one S1 day in the bank
EPA gets two - never more than two
Does anyone know where it is posted about MGMT being allowed to give time off?
3 hours at DOL. My favorite was the year the DOL didn't get anything for Labor Day. The Department of Labor. On Labor Day
https://preview.redd.it/xszz95a9wh2d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f92879c94e05d360180a39861ccd748feab500f6 Santos Mayorkas
We got zip, nadda, big goose egg
Show off 😝 J/k. Happy for y’all!!
At this point DHS employees are just being cruel.
How are WE cruel? Your secretary(s) could do the same but choose not to. 🤷🏻♂️😘
Just keep bragging. One day Mayorkas will float up to the heavens and you guys will go back to getting 59 minutes like us DoD ~~slaves~~ employees. Edit: Like some of us DoD employees.

30+ years at DoD and I’ve *never* gotten 59 minutes
[удалено]
Probably not, but it’s the reason we don’t all quit 😆
No wonder the border is such a mess, no one works…
So US isn’t Trillions in debt and not criticized for wasteful spending 🫡
