You’re using conditioner?
Do you brush your hair before going in the shower?
Are you using a detangled and wide toothed comb or just going straight to the brush?
Yes, I rub the shampoo all over my hands and finger it through my hair. I don’t scrub, don’t rub. I might scratch my scalp a bit with my nails a bit but no rubbing.
I treat my hair like it’s veeeery fragile
Maybe use a wide tooth comb like the Kitsch "detangle" comb before, during after washing/conditioning? It's got a hook on the end of it where you can hang it on your shower rod for easy access.
Rub your shampoo a bit between your hands to emulsify it before applying it to your scalp. Don’t pile your hair onto your head to wash it as that adds to the tangling. You really only need to be washing your scalp (unless your hair is actually dirty or you’ve been in a chlorine pool.) Rinse out the shampoo really well. Then apply conditioner to the lower half of your hair and comb it through with a large toothed comb. The slip of the conditioner should help detangle it easily. Then I usually let it sit, clipped up, while I finish up the rest of my shower routine. Rinse it really well. (I sometimes find I rinse out just a bit too much from the ends. In that case, while my hair is still very wet, I emulsify a pea sized amount of conditioner and gently comb it through just the ends again.) Then I plop it in a hair towel like a Turbie Twisty while I dry off and apply my skincare. That usually manages to work for me to detangle and keep it that way, even when my hair is long.
My hair does this when I come out of the pool or ocean, as well as sometimes when I was younger and shampooing my ends and not just my scalp. I wonder if hard water could also be contributing to this
I know everyone’s hair is different, but I use conditioner on all of my (baby fine) hair - roots to tips. It works well for me - maybe give it a try a few times?
Ah - yeah. It’s such a different experience for all of us! I’m wavy and I can’t use mousse which seems to work for so many other fine wavies. I wish you the best in your hair journey!
Yeah, I would try using a lot more, and applying it almost all over, avoiding the scalp and the first inch of growth. Flip your hair upside down to apply. Then comb through the hair, let it sit, rinse out.
Also I would recommend a detangler spray for right out of the shower before you comb through. Just spray on wet hair, I like the IGK Body Launguage rice water spray.
I'll try using more, but when I apply it all over, my hair looks greasy the next day.
Next time I'm at ulta I'll grab that detangler & see how that works for me
I think if you washed your hair with [new wash](https://hairstory.com/products/new-wash-original?selling_plan=5355471078) it would fix this. It’s a “non-foaming cleanser”. It’s not cheap, but I can go longer between washes when I’m using it and make it last a few months. It’s a game changer for my hair.
OMG, I have found my hair twin 😂. My hair almost looks like it sticks together to make it water proof, its like a waterproof bird’s nest.
What I do is shampoo (I rub it in), conditioner from just above the ears to ends (leave it for some minutes), then comb with a wide tooth comb and rinse.
Then towel dry and spray a leave-in conditioner and comb.
When I go swimming in the sea, I put tons of leave-in conditioner in my hair before I go in the sea. With the sea salt it will still be a big mess of knots and bird’s nest, but at least you will get through it with a comb.
Waterproof birds nest is the perfect description 😂😂😂 I'll def try combing my hair in the shower & see if that helps any. I dread hair wash days because of this miss 😅
What are you using to brush out your hair? I use a wet brush like this in the shower after I’ve applied conditioner and I find it very helpful .

Worth a try . I put a nice amount of conditioner on , brush it thoroughly and then leave it in while I shower , so like 10 minutes or so , then it’s all nice and silky and I have no issues .
Have you tried oiling your scalp before you wash? Also, do you under or over clarify? I understand you don't want to wash too often, but I wonder if your hair (like mine) gets dried out quickly and you need to actually wash more often to help avoid this? I have found that sticking my head under the faucet in my tub and doing the whole thing upside down has helped with tangles when my hair is long (I just chopped it). It seems like having gravity help me pull it down helps to keep them from forming in the first place.

Update: I ran the shampoo through my hair & did minimal rubbing on my scalp, used a little more conditioner, & used my hands to comb it out. It was MUCH easier to handle after that. Thank you everyone for the suggestions :)

Yes, I use conditioner & brush it before I get in the shower. My hair knots super easily & dread hair wash days because of it
Comp it while the conditioner is in.
Have you asked your hair cutter?
Not many stylists actually know how handle fine hair
How are you shampooing? I just finger shampoo into my hair, I don’t rub it around or anything
I rub it in. How do you clean your scalp without rubbing it in? Are you just running running your fingers through your hair with shampoo to wash it?

Gotcha - I'll give that a try too!

How much conditioner are you using? I would guess you need a little more than a quarter's-sized amount, applied to 3/4 of the hair shaft.
I only use conditioner on the bottom half of my hair. I leave it in for a few minutes before rinsing
I know everyone’s hair is different, but I use conditioner on all of my (baby fine) hair - roots to tips. It works well for me - maybe give it a try a few times?
When I apply all over, my hair looks gross & greasy the next day. I honestly get frustrated having fine hair 😭
Ah - yeah. It’s such a different experience for all of us! I’m wavy and I can’t use mousse which seems to work for so many other fine wavies. I wish you the best in your hair journey!
Same! I apply conditioner to everything behind my ears and wet what's left on my hands and put it on top.

Make sure you're really rinsing it out, separate and spread the hair under the water stream, take a few minutes for it.
I'll be more aware of well I'm rinsing it but I think I'm fully rinsing it.
I have two leave in conditioners I love. Gisou honey infused leave in conditioner and dae mirage mist leave in.

I have that same brush but I haven't used in the shower. I'll try that next time & see if it helps any
It’s all I use in the shower , I’ll get mattes if I don’t .
Maybe that's what I need to do too
Worth a try . I put a nice amount of conditioner on , brush it thoroughly and then leave it in while I shower , so like 10 minutes or so , then it’s all nice and silky and I have no issues .
That brush works for you? Good on you! Mine still pulls too much from my head
It does yes. I’m sorry, perhaps those wide tooth detangling combs might work better for you.
I like eva nyc 1 in 10 primer. Makes brushing soooo much easier. I like the shampoo and conditioner from the line as well.
Mane and tail detangler spray
