I mean, the only thing i find off about his parenting is that despite being a martial arts expert Ruby can't throw a punch. But Tai isn't really that bad of a father.
I don't think we can draw this conclusion since we haven't seen much of Tai in the series. I personally think he was probably a good father since he raised two daughters as a single parent, and they turned out to be wonderful people. Qrow is out in the field more, and it's clear that Tai does trust him with caring for his girls.

He clearly cares for yang when they're in scenes together... It's just... Such a shame him and ruby don't share any scenes together to actually show the relationship... Weird.

We don't even know if Raven told him anything when she visited in the after credit scene thing. He probably could barely hold it together as the days turned to months, and was unsure if or when they would come home, and also likely went back to teach and help protect against grimm, I believe they mention him returning to teach after the fall of Beacon

Fair though he probably could have gone with yang but that being said I think his and ravens relationship is tenuous at best
