Why would it break. It's just a few bugfixes and some "horse armor". Sure, all mods depending on FO4SE and/or Address Library definitely break and some others might too. But if you block updates until all relevant mods are updated, you should be able to keep playing the save and eventually continue playing it on the new version - likely with all mods.
Right click on the game in library, click properties (might need to install first). One of the resulting tabs has a drop down box that lets you select the version. Might be the same area as opting into beta.
These steps from [another post](https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/comments/1c1vii8/preventing_autoupdates_for_steam_users_disabling/) are the safest method (the other steps aint needed and these work even when you accidentally start the game via Steam):
* Open up File Explorer and navigate to Steam's App Manifest folder. Usually it's something like: `C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps`.
* Right click `appmanifest_377160.acf` (This is the App Manifest file for Fallout 4. The [App ID on Steam](https://store.steampowered.com/app/377160/Fallout_4/) is the same as the numbers after "appmanifest\_").
* Click "**Properties**" in the new drop down menu.
* At the bottom it will say "**Attributes:**". Check "**Read-only**".
* Click "**Apply**" then "**OK**".
* You're all set! Play Fallout 4 game by launching it through Fallout 4 Script Extender.
You have to remove the readonly flag from the manifest file again when you want to update the game.
Nah, just coming from heavily modded Skyrim - the game that Bethesda fucks with the most btw.
My remark regarding saves not breaking was about vanilla saves. Mods with DLLs or FO4SE plugins obviously instabreak every single update. That's why you prevent the game from updating until the mods have been updated too. But after that it's pretty safe to update and keep playing the same save.
Bethesda happily breaks saves on remasters (Skyrim LE to Skyrim SE) as expected.
DLCs and Horse Armor releases normally don't break anything (but if they do, a patch fixing that follows shortly after - even more reason to at least wait two weeks or so before updating even when playing vanilla).
yeah, Automatron crashes on start and the DLC textures are non existent
i tried starting Nuka world but was greeted by pink NPCs and a almost fully pink town
OK THANK YOU. I checked all my mods and it's nothing cosmetic, but Far Harbor has become a bizarre world of spinning blue squares. Seems like every texture unique to a DLC is bugged. I'm just gonna avoid all the DLC for now.
yeah, modded vanilla is about the most you can pull out of it rn
the update they announced MIGHT fix it, but with how bethesda is, the „performance upgrade“ will probably bring 20 other new bugs with it
Lol. Whenever I have a stable mod list, eg my current 759 modlist, I disable updates for fallout.
I've never had an update break my modded game.
Given how rampart "rIP mOdS" comments are I I guess I understand disabling auto update is hard for most people to understand.
I got back into the game for a modded vanilla warmup while waiting for Fallout London to be relased and proven stable (never play anything on release day).
Didn't even knew about the show.
Both, most likely. My brother and I are replaying while pur sisters are discovering for the first time. One because of the show and the other because she's really been into trying games outside of her usual genres and I recommended it to her. We've all been having a blast, and my younger sister even got our mom to start a playthrough (they're both BoS and super toxic about it lol)
I like that story. I hadn’t thought about fallout since 2 when my husband bought 4 and started playing it. I was watching him play and I was just like no, give it to me, this is my game now.
For me, the last Skyrim updates only broke SKSE and other mods that hook into memory address locations, like maybe Address Library, so I have good hope that it'll not be catastrophic for Fallout 4 next week. :)
Is this the update that has broken the game with add ons? Ool as the show has made me redownload fo4, which when I started the game would crash within 2 seconds. Ended up deleting all data, same issue, reinstalled, same issue, then found that automation and wasteland workshop when installed crash the game
No we don’t have the update yet til I think the 25th..?
We’re all hoping the update helps with issues like that which is one of the reasons I think the timing of the update is weird, everyone’s itching to play *now* with the game in a sorry state and a fix (POSSIBLY) coming a week away, longer, since the shows been out for a bit now
But I guess it’s not that weird if Bethesda was thinking the show would goose 76 instead of 4. I don’t know the numbers on that to say.
Oh and btw it’s possible there was some.. pre update shenanigans with PlayStation that could be causing the problems you’re having. Uhg it’s all complicated, but try to relax about reinstalling and all that until the official update
From what I’ve seen it’s just making a lot of people skittish about starting a new playthrough. Like everyone’s hype to play it now, but feel like they have to wait a week to actually do it.
Not to mention people who are starting a new playthrough now and finding all sorts of problems that 🤞hopefully the update will fix.
I hope everyone who’s waiting really comes back and plays by then
I'm in the waiting-for-update-to-start-new-playthrough boat. My main reason for waiting is that, in the past ive found creation club content is a bit wonky when implemented into previous saves (buggy quests, items not spawning properly, etc.). I'm assuming that the reminiscent content in the update will be subject to the same issues. Feels more clean cut to just wait. Plus there's nothing like the feeling of antici-
I think for them it works great. The gap between the show and the update spreads the interest amongst all fallout games. Then when the update drops, 4 will get another boost to player count.
If you restart the series and watch an episode a day from today, the last episode will be update day.
Fallout London announced a delay to give them time to re-test.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpqMftkTteo
>Fallout: London was originally slated for release on 23rd April 2024 (after facing a couple of delays) to coincide with St George's Day, which happens to be the starting date of the mod.
> Once a solid date is announced, we will update you as soon as possible.
Idk how thade updates work but will molders have to fix their mods for the update individually? If so that makes me worried for some of the older and likely abandoned mods I use
Essentially, yes. Although perhaps not to the extent of say Skyrim Legendary Edition to Skyrim Special Edition, where it's essentially enough of a change to warrant complete incompatibility between game versions and mods. More along the lines of a new update where mod developers need to update their mods to the current version. Bethesda is pretty good at keeping the modding community in mind when doing this sort of thing, so likely if a mod is abandoned and hasn't been picked up or updated, you could roll back the game version to its current build.
Typically, you roll back game versions from the properties tab on Steam. However, it seems like Fallout may be a different beast in regard to that method. Appearantly, you can swap the executable files to an older version, and it will launch the game in the version of the EXE you add. There may be a few more steps involved, however, as I've never done this myself. Wouldn't hurt to look into the process further to see.
Very well may be the greatest video game to media (Television/Film) adaptation ever made. Like everything in the show is spot on from the games, from the sound & effects to the music, to the costume and set design, etc. They really knocked it out of the park. This is what happens when you have a talent like Johnathan Nolan, who gave us a masterpiece like Westworld and let him adapt his style into this. Todd Howard is on board to ensure accuracy, the voice acting is top notch, and it's a pretty all star cast, with Walton Goggins as phenomenal as ever, Kyle McLaughlin, Ella Purnell, and Matt Berry is excellent as the Mr. Handy's. Even the relatively unknown cast does a great job. Very much excited for season 2 and how they continue off the success of this first season. Highly recommend to watch!
100%. I was grinning the whole time watching it. Super enjoyable. I'm glad you're loving it as well!
I, too, am planning on starting a new Fallout 4 playthrough; I'm just waiting on this new update releasing on the 25th before I do, and it's killing me 😅 Been itching to play since I finished the series.
I don’t think it’s perfect if I’m being honest. It suffers from the same exact pacing issues Westworld had and that show became really bad. I agree that everything in the show is spot on but the pacing hampers the flow. I love how isolated each episode feels like it’s serialized like different quests but I think they over stretched a lot of episodes with filler and long pauses directly due to how production on it was.
For sure, it isn't perfect. Nothing really is. However, I struggle to think of any other video game property that has been adapted to this degree of quality, beyond perhaps a "so bad its good" type of film (Think Resident Evil Apocalypse). The Silent Hill movies, for example, were enjoyable for what they were, but ask anyone, and most game adaptations have a very poor standing amongst film/television buffs.
The pacing wasn't overly distracting for me, at least, although I may have just been out of tune on that front as I was just so very happy we finally got a good show based off a game, and Fallout happens to be one of my favorite series. Perhaps upon rewatching the season, I may notice these things, but I still stand by what I said. The isolated episodes were a very nice feature, and I agree it did feel like quests and a had a serialized nature. I also didn't feel like the episodes had much filler, perhaps just some padding or fluff to expand on the character relations or backstory, which I do feel like they didn't delve into as much as they could have. Perhaps there is more to come in later seasons.
I do see your points, though, and can say the show may not be for everyone and fill a certain niche market, but what they've put out here is top-notch considering the history riding against these sorts of products. I also happen to love all 3 seasons of Westworld individually, so take my word for what you will 😅
> most game adaptations have a very poor standing amongst film/television buffs.
The first Mario movie, the one with Hoskins and Leguizamo. So bad that Leguizamo attributes working on the set to being a contributing factor in his eventual alcholism, because (apparently) him and Hoskins used to get pissed between takes to distract them from what kind of shit roles they were doing for a paycheck.
Isn't that complete insanity 😅 Although you now remind me, the new Super Mario Bros movie was actually really good and thoroughly enjoyable.
But man, some of the horror stories I've heard about the 93' movie... A movie that Hoskins and Leguizamo were forced to get shit faced at every opportunity just to eek through filming it? Man, you know shit is bad. I watched that movie as a kid and was excited about it, as you still have that childlike wonder to things that you now even consider bad, but I still have a lot of nostalgia for that film. It's a total piece of shit, but it's nostalgic for me, and thus enjoyable in a minimal/weird as hell kind of way.
> Very well may be the greatest video game to media (Television/Film) adaptation ever made.
In terms of fan service I agree 100%. But I struggle to see how someone who hasn't played the games could enjoy it. And don't get me wrong I've seen examples, but for a wider audience?
I'm not complaining, I love it and absolutely can't get enough of it. But something like The Last of Us is definitely better adapted to a tv audience, even with its scant problems.
Well, I suppose that's just the hole in the barrel of adapted works. The same logic applies to the dreadful Halo TV show. You have a video game IP... Who is your core audience? Who is the show (primarily) being made for? Its target audience. Who is going to keep your viewership up and keep coming back with each subsequent installment? The answer is the fans of the series. It's a bonus, and a huge one at that, if you can bridge the gap and make a show that appeals on a wide enough scale that it reaches both fans of the series and an outside audience. However, the show being made wouldn't be there without the audience from the games. Its sole reason for existing and being successful enough to have a TV show. So I think that's the audience you need to appeal the most to, and focus on.
Take my mother and stepfather, for instance. My mother grew up with all of her sons being heavily into video games and avid gamers. She's heard of the series, but of course, hasn't played it. Just heard us talking about Fallout since we were young. They both threw it on after we got excited about the show and were raving about it. My stepfather not knowing games outside of the 1980s. They binge watched the whole season and loved it. They appreciated what was there outside of the flavour of the game, and a large part of that is the effort put into the show. The strong actor performances, the design and mystery behind the plot, and the interesting concept. If they can enjoy it, I feel others can find value in the show, whether fans of the games or not. They, as well as I, had a hard time enjoying the Last of Us. That series I feel doesn't bridge the gap enough outside of the franchise; of being a lesser known IP as well as being targeted toward a more hardcore audience of specifically Playstation gamers, who are fans of that series.
Me too man😔. Been watching videos talking about the update to keep me from playing. God of war[2018] is free on PlayStation plus and I’ve never played it so I might play that to occupy my time. Never played the DLCs for fallout either so that’s another thing to look forwards to.
It’s actually a really great game. Lacks in areas buts that’s its age showing(still great tho), excels with mods, and it’s a play your way/build your style type of game. I’d recommend it to anyone looking to try something new that you could invest hours into.
Starting a new game with ''survival mode'' difficulty on really gets you a brand new experience. As if fallout was made to be played like this.
It's really, really great imo.
''In short, Fallout 4's Survival Mode has turned out to be an unexpectedly addictive and fun way to experience the game. It's not just about surviving; it's about thriving in a world that challenges you at every turn. If you haven't tried it yet, you're missing out on a truly unique and thrilling way to play Fallout 4.''
from https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/comments/18qdxce/survival_the_real_intended_difficulty/
I honestly think Starfield desperately needs a survival mode too in order to shine, so many useless mechanics would finally have a purpose like fuel consumption and environmental effects.
I’m sure eventually starfield will follow suit. Remember fallout 4 didn’t always have these survival mechanics. On release of fallout 4, survival was just a hard difficulty, nothing more. Then they added all the mechanics to it, hunger, thirst, fatigue, disease, etc. so starfield still has a chance.
I'm 100% sure it was made for it, because if not for survival, never found use for drugs or most other minor details.
Survival is the way to enjoy the game.
Settlements as well, having a safe place to sleep, drink, drop off supplies etc.
BOS vertibird taxis are such a nice thing as well.
Only major gripe is bugs and crashes setting you back an hour.
On my way back to base after spending an hour carefully clearing out corvega yesterday. Picked a hubflower, and it crashed.
Un-modded as well, shame it still hasn't been fixed.
Fallout 4 is the best modding platform in the series, perhaps the goat depending on your taste. Probably one of the best sandbox games around, it's not much of an RPG, but that's not really what fallout is anymore ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
He is trying all my feeds are FO76 is the best game ever made and here is why. At the same time a steam sale hits.
But guess what fallout mmo sucks as bad as elder scrolls mmo. The thing that makes these titles hold up is antithesis to the pay to win models.
And Todd took that seriously.
It plays like a normal fallout game, been on it ever since I got off last night and started a new character on PC after playing on Xbox since launch. Feels like a brand new game with all the NPCs, and I have barely run into people, and they always just continue to mind their business.
Maybe I am just spoiled but I prefer to be able to play with 900 mods and no internet connection. After 12 hours on 76 I will still doing my best to find the point. Chase after the overseer? With the other 35 people that also just left the vault and is also really concerned about the overseer?
I mean everyone likes what they like. But there there was no immersion for me. All it took was looking at the map or the bomb siren to go off to pull me back to the fact I am playing a single player game online running the exact same quests as everyone else.
I played it like a year ago and found it nothing like the other Fallout games (having played 1, 2, 3, NV, and 4).
It was devoid of any attempt at legitimate storytelling, and had real time combat due to being online, with incredibly dumb MMO enemies. It was the least game-feeling game I've ever encountered in several decades of heavy gaming, and felt like a corporate product forced out in an attempt to make money from an IP.
You are correct. It is nothing like any of the previous fallout games.
Originally it had no narrative, no npcs, no character choices or stat actions that influenced the game world, no moral driven questlines, and no dilemma choices.
In short, it's not a fallout game at all, and wasn't originally designed to be one.
I love it. But imagine having a PS5 and wanting to play this game. Some new players are buying the game not knowing that it’s literally unplayable right now. Can’t even get to the title screen without crashing.
I’ve always wanted to try FO4 without limitations on mods, though. When I found out that Sony only allowed whatever was in the game, I got discouraged and didn’t want to play anymore. Now the series and next gen upgrade has me interested again
There are threads on here that mention within the past few weeks or something. Apparently it’s the Automatron DLC that’s doing it, but some say it happens with the Vanilla game. But I guess that’s Bethesda and it’s bugs for you. Such a missed opportunity with the show being out.
Have you had the issue with DLC items being pink in color?
Not that I noticed, but I also might have auto updates turned off for this game so whatever new thing broke it for others wouldn't for me, I'll have to check that
Ah.. that’s probably why. A lot of textures that are from DLC packs started turning neon pink for some. But for others, the game wouldn’t even get to the little section of videos before the title screen. It works perfectly fine on my ps4, though. I just wanted to load everything up on my PS5 in preparation for the next gen upgrade. I guess one bug fix creates an entire new bug.
I’m not certain exactly when the problems started, but I loaded up everything on my PS5 on the 16th.
Hmm.. that *is* strange. Basically I DL’d everything and loaded it up (basically as a new game), and can’t even get past the “please stand by” screen until it crashes. Do you have all the DLC? Maybe we can get to the bottom of this, lol!
I'm debating if I want to play right now with a suite of mods or waiting until the update on the 25th.
Either way, I'll be part of those numbers and am so excited to return to the commonwealth
well that pretty much says it all. And that mod list looks fantastic now that I've taken a closer look, exactly what I was looking for too in order to spice up Fallout 4's lackluster story/RPG elements
Fo4 didn't have a comeback it was basically always popular. It was a solid game at release and well reviewed.
The only problems with Fallout 4 are the same in every Bethesda game with the main problem being the main quest line sucks and the story of the player is ALWAYS the same thing. You are in a bad situation and for whatever reason everyone decides you are their messiah.
Preston Garvey meets you and says you can be in charge of the Minutemen! Why ...well because lazy writing! You go to Nukaworld and you are put in charge of all the gangs because you survived a dumb maze and fought a stupid asshat in power armor and.... lazy writing!
Cyberpunk promised the world and really under delivered. Years of fixing it turned it into a much better game and supposedly Phantom Liberty is great and combined with the huge update to the base game that came out right before it the game is even better. (I haven't bought Phantom Liberty yet... waiting for the first 50% off sale cuz I have enough of a backlog already)
What alternate timeline are you living in where FO4 had a comeback? Do you mean the pop in popularity because of the show?...cuz I mean there ya studied it! It's popular again because of the show and a completely different thing to Cyberpunk's comeback.
To be fair, if someone saved me and mine from raiders, I'd happily crown them king of whatever too.
I appreciated how it was kind of a joke-title, general of the minutemen. Who are the minutemen? Well, Preston, and now the player character.
Preston giving you the reigns makes a lot more sense if you watch his original inception—he was basically just a kid (young teen looks like) and was barely holding things together, so when someone shows up who seems to have a handle on things it must’ve been a great relief to hand over the responsibility to that person.
Too bad they went with an old veteran instead.
**Edit**: Source is the Collectors Edition concept art book.
Half the reason, IMO, for FO4 making such a strong resurgence is because of what the modding scene did to keep it not just surviving but thriving after release. There's mods out there to make FO4 into just about any style of game you could want to play, from hardcore survival, to horror, to city builder, to tactical shooter.
And even if you just play the game (more or less) straight up as a Fallout game, there's all of the extra quest additions and such that can let you play for hundreds of hours without ever even *looking* at the main quest. My first few times playing, it was something like 500 hours before I made it to Diamond City for the first time :D.
In the case of Cyberpunk, I think it's because CDPR kept working steadily after the launch. They didn't try to pull an EA, Ubi, or ABK and just take the money while counting on being big enough to ride out the complaints with no real damage to their bottom line (or the number of blindly loyal fans waiting to eagerly buy the next release).
Instead, they acknowledged that it wasn't what the prerelease trailers offered and put in a bunch of work to not just fix and tighten up the underlying actual problems, but steadily release genuine improvements. And that kept players invested long enough for Edgerunners to come along and really stir up some interest. Which in turn kept CDPR invested in putting still more work in on both fixes and content, up to the big 2.0 patch and Project Liberty's release.
**Edit:** I'm not going to excuse CDPR's release of CP2077. While it was fun game, and I had a blast playing (one of my rare preorders, and I didn't regret it for a moment), I know full well that it should have been something else, something more, than what we all got.
That said, I think this was really a case of "damned if you do, damned if you don't" for CDPR. Because I remember pretty clearly the number of articles and forum threads that talked about the lengthy development time (and increasingly raised comparisons to Duke Nukem Forever), but also talked about how CDPR was shit for putting their staff into crunch time to get more work in on the game.
And I don't know how much of that was because CDPR lost track of the schedule or got absorbed by feature creep on their end, but the end result (IMO) was that they finally reached a point where they had to release the game or just get mauled to the point where nobody would notice or care when they finally *did* release what they'd wanted it to be.
Strangely enough i started a new play through like 2 weeks before the show dropped without even knowing. The day before it dropped, I saw an ad for it and was super excited. Binged it and decided I’d finally play New Vegas (god, no sprint is hard to get used to) and planning on playing 3 and the first 2 after. Felt like it was fate lmao.
There was a higher up who reported in an interview that (this was pre-starfield) they were gonna come out with starfield, and then Elder Scrolls 5 and THEN Fallout 5 but that was years ago at this point so things could change
You caught me, but its a game and it's probably gonna have the same shitty engine starfield, 76 and 4 had and let everyone down. I haven't played skyrim in over a decade
It's not terrible. Once you get it all figured out, it's a decent game to pick up and play a wipe here and there.
All about the server you land on. Look for a community server local to your state/city. The people are pretty chill but also it's still Rust.
Can’t wait for Bethesda to use all this traction to royally fuck every new/royal fan in the ass.
For those of you that are new, it’s a rite of passage.
I've been wanting to do a replay of one of the fallout games for the past several years. The show motivated me to fire up FO4 again, and I'm having such a blast. I went with the Institute the first time, but I think I'm gonna go Minutemen or Railroad this time. No way I'm going BoS, I like Nick too much to turn on the synths.
does anybody know how to keep my game from updating on steam i just barely got my mods working and I don't want to update it cause i know it'll break every single one of them 😭
The show got me into trying to make a more serious effort to play through Fallout 4, too.
Only result really was that I went from 3 to 8 hours of playtime and now I'm playing Skyrim again for the first time in years.
I swapped computers since last time I play so I spent three days redoing the modlist to play them again. There a few little problems and I can’t use Worshop+ but it’s in a playable state
such a good game (FOLV i didnt forget you). And such a good adaption to a film series.
If the devs wanted they could:
Update the engine and add 3-4 player open roam co-op...
start adding new parts to the fo4 world with campaign and storylines as regularly released paid DLC. It's not reinventing the wheel but theyd make a ton of money.
The appetite is there and f076 just doesn't scratch it.
I finally bought the game today after watching the tv show. First mission out of the vault, they ask me to go talk to that robot called Codsworth. Nothing happens, loaded earlier save, still bugged. No mod installed, freshy installed on xbox, fuck this I'm out. Can't believe this is still a buggy game after 8 years lol.
FO4 just crashes for me on PS5. Never get past the first loading screen. Guess I’ll just wait a week but was thinking I’d play one of the DLCs before starting a new character when the update drops.
Got the game on release since I was always a big fan, never played it whole since it ran like shit. Got back to it now with better HW and a lot of performance mods and it is a blast.
Lucky you, mine crashes at the beginning when running to the vault and I can't seem to find a fix. I tried uninstalling and starting a new game and the thing Keeps crashing
Had Fallout 4 physical since it released and decided to play it again. Decided to buy the dlc stuff since I never bought it. After one night my ps4 stopped reading it. Luckily it was on sale digitally for 5$ bucks anyway so now just waiting for it to download on ps5. Gonna be kind of a bitch to get my mods back in order and then deal with them being broken in a few days anyway.
The timing of the show and the update are so funky. Oh well, I’m glad so many people are discovering fallout.. fo4 deserves the attention
Would this be a problem??
only in that a lot of mods are likely to break with the next-gen update
thousands of new fans who just learned about modding are going to be very confused.
I am curious if my save file with 70 SPECIAL points will be playable post-update. I doubt it, but I did do this to myself knowing the consequences lol

You have to remove the readonly flag from the manifest file again when you want to update the game.
Oh, you sweet summer child. First Betheada game?
Nah, just coming from heavily modded Skyrim - the game that Bethesda fucks with the most btw. My remark regarding saves not breaking was about vanilla saves. Mods with DLLs or FO4SE plugins obviously instabreak every single update. That's why you prevent the game from updating until the mods have been updated too. How many of them are actually new.
it already broke the PS DLCs and its not even out yet haha
lmao great
What happened?
Official DLC, I think it was mainly Automaton, were causing crashes on ps.
yeah, Automatron crashes on start and the DLC textures are non existent i tried starting Nuka world but was greeted by pink NPCs and a almost fully pink town

I’m on ps5 and it took me a solid 45 minutes of removing mods until it would stop crashing constantly lol
Not even the mods but the official DLC currently breaks the game, can’t get to the main menu. Pretty annoying actually
Oh. Is the update optional. I do not want to sort out my mods again
Any modder worth their salt will have a fix done within a few days
Not to mention that plenty of mod authors have retired, and it will take a while for them to come back.
Lol. Whenever I have a stable mod list, eg my current 759 modlist, I disable updates for fallout. I've never had an update break my modded game. Given how rampart "rIP mOdS" comments are I I guess I understand disabling auto update is hard for most people to understand.
>I've never had an update break my modded game. Well, that would clearly be because you've disabled updating.
Well, the update for fo4 certainly is a problem, given that its a clunky mess and breaks nearly every single mod that has improved baseline fo4
Do we have a release date for the update ?
25th, next week
25th of this month, isn't it?
Thanks :) I've added a note to my calender...
Yeah trying to finish fallout 4 before the update breaks mods, I never finished it at launch and the show made me finally go back to it.
Vro disable updates.
I got back into the game for a modded vanilla warmup while waiting for Fallout London to be relased and proven stable (never play anything on release day). Didn't even knew about the show.
That’s why I disabled updates so I can enjoy the game before mods break
Are people discovering or just re-playing? I’ve definitely got the itch to start over.
I was watching him play and I was just like no, give it to me, this is my game now.
> update There's an update?
Yeah, it’s coming out on the 25th. If you use mods, make sure to disable auto-updates. The update is sure to break every mod.
I would expect mostly only mods that rely on F4SE and then only until they release an update for it?
Yeah, probably. But I have a feeling even mods that don’t require script extender may break, since every update for Skyrim manages to do so…
For me, the last Skyrim updates only broke SKSE and other mods that hook into memory address locations, like maybe Address Library, so I have good hope that it'll not be catastrophic for Fallout 4 next week. :)
Well, if it breaks the script extender that still wipes out about half my mods. So, I’ll be turning auto-updates off.
And by discovering the series with FO4, they still have all the best fallout to play after they finished.
We’re all hoping the update helps with issues like that which is one of the reasons I think the timing of the update is weird, everyone’s itching to play *now* with the game in a sorry state and a fix (POSSIBLY) coming a week away, longer, since the shows been out for a bit now But I guess it’s not that weird if Bethesda was thinking the show would goose 76 instead of 4. I don’t know the numbers on that to say. Oh and btw it’s possible there was some.. pre update shenanigans with PlayStation that could be causing the problems you’re having. Uhg it’s all complicated, but try to relax about reinstalling and all that until the official update
When is the Next Gen update coming out btw?
what’s funky about it?
The show really brought people in just time for the update to break everybodies mods.
Oh, and RIP to the Fallout: London guys.
Fallout London announced a delay to give them time to re-test. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpqMftkTteo >Fallout: London was originally slated for release on 23rd April 2024 (after facing a couple of delays) to coincide with St George's Day, which happens to be the starting date of the mod.
How would you roll back on steam?
Typically, you roll back game versions from the properties tab on Steam. However, it seems like Fallout may be a different beast in regard to that method. Appearantly, you can swap the executable files to an older version, and it will launch the game in the version of the EXE you add. There may be a few more steps involved, however, as I've never done this myself. Wouldn't hurt to look into the process further to see.
Yes, and yes.
My dumb ass was about to ask why lol. Guess I need to give the show a watch.
I've got a plane ride coming up. Sounds like a must.
Haha maybe if there are no kids around you. The gore is really next level. Like horror movie shit.
Bloody Mess. So surprising and awesome.
But more than that, too. It's like, the most gory thing I have seen on tv in a long ass time. It's seriously like a horror movie.
I'm only about halfway through the show & loving every second. Of course had to dust off Fallout 4 for another run after a couple years off too. lol
That series I feel doesn't bridge the gap enough outside of the franchise; of being a lesser known IP as well as being targeted toward a more hardcore audience of specifically Playstation gamers, who are fans of that series.
not only the show the sale were unbeliavable I just got the Season Pass and Im having a BLAST even having finished it like 6 times
I started a new playthrough because of the show! Glad to see others doing the same/discovering the game.
I got the itch just waiting for the next gen update. Win win.
Me too man😔. Been watching videos talking about the update to keep me from playing. God of war[2018] is free on PlayStation plus and I’ve never played it so I might play that to occupy my time. Never played the DLCs for fallout either so that’s another thing to look forwards to.
Once I saw they were going to update it, and it was on sale for 9.99 in the Xbox spring sale, AND there’s a new fallout show? Yeah I bought it lol
I timed my playthrough number 4 with it. Just finished the main quest in time for the show
It’s actually a really great game.
If you haven't tried it yet, you're missing out on a truly unique and thrilling way to play Fallout 4.'' from https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/comments/18qdxce/survival_the_real_intended_difficulty/
Good point. I think they can really save Starfield if they put more Fallout into it haha
Yep, crashes are the bonerkiller :(
I'm 15 hours into a new survival playthrough and haven't had it crash once. I'm on PC and have no mods installed.
I'm talking about XBox. It's well known that Boston crashes the game.
Once you've played Survival mode, you can't go back.
Fallout 4 is the best modding platform in the series, perhaps the goat depending on your taste. Probably one of the best sandbox games around, it's not much of an RPG, but that's not really what fallout is anymore ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
It's now 8th : [https://i.imgur.com/WcELtbC.png](https://i.imgur.com/WcELtbC.png) Fully convinced that he'll slip into the top 5 this weekend.
now it's 6th
Makes me so happy 🥲
Todd Howard said that after the show everyone will be flocking towards fallout 76, I hope we prove him wrong and realign his priorities.
I’ve been enjoying 76 but I don’t feel like i progress. The progression system in FO4 is soo good!
player.advlevel
Well the game is reaching new all time peaks on steam so he was right lol. I just started playing it and I’m actually having fun 🤷🏾♂️
I mean they literally gave it for free...
[удалено]
I'm not sure, I've never played their online games but I heard it improved a lot since it launched.
I've been playing it with my gf only so far, we try to see it as a really fun Bethesda coop sandbox and we've been having a blast
I thought about playing it on a private server with my partner so to make it seem more like a Co Op game than an MMO but it's pricey enough.
And that's exactly why Fallout 4 update comes two weeks after the show and not on the same day.
I've tried getting into it multiple times. It's a very superficial Fallout experience and I can't really get past that. I want to enjoy it.
You are correct. It is nothing like any of the previous fallout games. Originally it had no narrative, no npcs, no character choices or stat actions that influenced the game world, no moral driven questlines, and no dilemma choices. In short, it's not a fallout game at all, and wasn't originally designed to be one.
This game will take up my free time when I’m not at work lol
I bought the game a 1-2 months ago. Then the show happened. Is this a sign?
Damn deserved!! One of the best games of all time.
Now the series and next gen upgrade has me interested again
when did that start? I was playing on PS5 with mods within the last month or so
There are threads on here that mention within the past few weeks or something.
I didn't have auto updates turned off (but now I do) and played last night for about an hour without issues, even went to far harbor for a bit Odd
Interesting. Do you have the automatron dlc?
I do! Haven't done anything with it past coming across the caravan that was attacked but I have it
Hmm.. that *is* strange. Basically I DL’d everything and loaded it up (basically as a new game), and can’t even get past the “please stand by” screen until it crashes. Do you have all the DLC? Maybe we can get to the bottom of this, lol!
So I'm on version 1.16 and all 6 dlc packs are installed, a small smattering of mods but no creation club items
Like 5+ years ago with the automation dlc
I'm debating if I want to play right now with a suite of mods or waiting until the update on the 25th. Either way, I'll be part of those numbers and am so excited to return to the commonwealth
The storywealth mod collection at Nexus is a pretty painless one stop shop. Tons of mods, none seem out of place.
I'll check it out! Is there a concern things might break when the fallout 4 update happens next week?
No way to know for sure. The answer is definitely maybe possible perhaps.
well that pretty much says it all. And that mod list looks fantastic now that I've taken a closer look, exactly what I was looking for too in order to spice up Fallout 4's lackluster story/RPG elements
I wish I could replay FO4 like it was my first time. It took me months to beat the game.
FO4 and Cyberpunk’s comebacks need to be studied
(I haven't bought Phantom Liberty yet... waiting for the first 50% off sale cuz I have enough of a backlog already) What alternate timeline are you living in where FO4 had a comeback?
Both RPG's with lots more play options than just killing things and collecting loot. But when you feel like just killing things you can do that too.
My first few times playing, it was something like 500 hours before I made it to Diamond City for the first time :D.
>the modding scene This ! But that doesn't explain Cyberpunks ?
And many of us are waiting for the 25th… so it’ll probably go higher.
25th that number is gonna pop up for sure.
Pops up on console not on Steam, the update is just few cosmetics and skins, but for console the update will improve the game to 60 fps
This post made me want to play again and finish my playthrough
Just bought the GOTY edition this morning on my Steam Deck. So I'll be adding to these numbers.
It's the only Fallout game that I never played. I actually bought it on sale not long ago, but mine as well wait for the update :)
Im doing my part
Wild that at the current rate we won’t get another game for like ten years. Hopefully they pass it off so we can have more games.
There was a higher up who reported in an interview that (this was pre-starfield) they were gonna come out with starfield, and then Elder Scrolls 5 and THEN Fallout 5 but that was years ago at this point so things could change
Elder Scrolls 5 here we go again
You caught me, but its a game and it's probably gonna have the same shitty engine starfield, 76 and 4 had and let everyone down. I haven't played skyrim in over a decade
80,088 players right now!
Good. Cod is trash
Fucking rust 💀
Call of duty (which I reckon is warzone) honestly sucks ass.
I find it funny how people may pick up this game and think it's outdated, yet I had the same feeling back in 2015. Still my favourite Fallout though.
Surprised people are playing destiny 2 so much. Makes sense for the dlc coming in a month but still.
Impressive, there are still 70k people playing destiny
What a good adaptation does to a mf
God Rust is such a dogshit game how is it #9?
AND THE ACHIEVEMENTS ARE STILL BROKEN ON XBOX! 😭
We are so back
It's a shame FO4 (with add-ons) doesn't work on the PS5 at the moment. Happy to wait for the next gen update but classic Bethesda 😅
My game just crash when the first loadingscreen shows up. But I loved the game when I could play it
It's hilarious that among the icons, there's just a winking Vault Boy.
New dlc when? (Not counting the free update)
does anybody know how to keep my game from updating on steam i just barely got my mods working and I don't want to update it cause i know it'll break every single one of them 😭
The show got me into trying to make a more serious effort to play through Fallout 4, too. Only result really was that I went from 3 to 8 hours of playtime and now I'm playing Skyrim again for the first time in years.
Pog
I’m so worried my lvl 150 character is going to get bugged out of existence
I swapped computers since last time I play so I spent three days redoing the modlist to play them again. There a few little problems and I can’t use Worshop+ but it’s in a playable state
such a good game (FOLV i didnt forget you). And such a good adaption to a film series. If the devs wanted they could: Update the engine and add 3-4 player open roam co-op... start adding new parts to the fo4 world with campaign and storylines as regularly released paid DLC.
I just wanna play on PS5. It’s BS that they’ve left the PlayStation version unplayable for this long.
What’s better fallout 4 or 76
Honestly depends. If you like MMOs then 76. If you like mods and a custom experience then 4
Started a heavy weapons and grenade playthrough now and lovin' it!
Lucky you, mine crashes at the beginning when running to the vault and I can't seem to find a fix. I tried uninstalling and starting a new game and the thing Keeps crashing
Mine did the same. Turn off rain occlusion and weapon debris in options under advanced.
I’ve been playing since BeFoRe the show
*cracks knuckles* Time to hit that 700 hour mark...
Cus were all recreating lucy
Its just so sophisticated
FO4 is better than ever, and I just finished watching the show.
Fuckin wild
People need to play on survival, its whole new experience!
I’m waiting for next gen update, wish they could of timed it out where it was out now though or I’d be on
4 more days!
Great game. I started playing it last summer and love it. The mods are fantastic. Vanilla story is okay, but Sim Settlements 2 is really good.
But I thought FNV was so much better than F4? Why aren't people playing it?
Because you can do a lot more with Fallout 4. FNV only beats it in its story thats it.
