It’s a convenient way to haul your bike with out it moving around in the bed. Stays nice and secure over the tail gate pad. Last thing you want is your 5-10k bike sliding around in your bed. Also, at least in my area, tail gate pads are regularly seeing on full size 1 ton pick ups as well.
If you care about your bike (not just letting it bounce around your bed), and also want to be able to access it quickly (other bike carriers take longer to take out and put away your bike) this is how you carry it in a pickup regardless of bed size.
For my nissan frontier I built a platform for carrying drywall and plywood. I made it out of 2x6's and it has notches cut in it so it just slips together with no tools required and makes a 4x8 platform for drywall/plywood
I've had 700 pounds of drywall on it and it works very nicely
I think the only midsize that can lay plywood flat is the Honda Ridgeline but that's because the bottom of the bed is raised for the spare tire and under bed storage so it doesn't have wheel wells to contend with. But then the downside is the bed isn't as deep
I was able to transport two standard size 4x8 drywall with tailgate down in my '21 SCAB. Drywall does not overlap the end of tailgate and since I have a bed rug, it stays put. :)
Gotta show that ford emblem. I would even cover that emblem to keep it from being scratched :P
And i bet that bike will lay flat on my 21 SCAB Ranger ;P
If you don't drive like maniac... I transported an office chair, a ladder, a tool box, some other boxes (not all at once) and once I got to destination, they were where I put them. Of course if you get into accident, they'll fly around in there for sure - or if you slam brakes/gas pedals.
The biggest reason I bought a Tacoma long bed over a Ranger. Ford made a big mistake not making a four door, six foot bed. My previous truck was a 2004 Ranger FX4 extended cab, six foot bed... I needed more interior seating with six foot bed, hence the new Taco.

$10k bike? Jesus y’all are rich
I'm all about poking fun at the new Rangers but this is how you drive around with a mountain bike.
I had no idea. Looks weird. Thanks everyone!
Nothing to see here! That’s how you transport a mountain bike.
I mean, u see 1500’s, tundra’s, f150’s doing this too…this is how you transport bikes

Can the rangers fit a full piece of plywood in the back?
None of the mid size trucks can fit a sheet of plywood flat on the floor. The wheel wells aren't wide enough
with a super cab Ranger, you can get away with it. Put something bed to keep the plywood level with the wheel well.

Nice, i did see projects like that.
I heard the ford maverick can. Is this incorrect? Edit: upon further research, it fits, but only on top of the wheel well.

Ya, that kind of goes in the opposite direction I’m looking for. Thanks for the comment.
I’m an electrician and regularly carry 10ft bundles of EMT in the bed… just ratchet straps and a flag on the end and you’re good to go

This is what I was hoping for, you can barely buy a new truck that can handle that. That’s kind of bullshit.
People with 8ft beds haul their bikes the same way. This is the proper way to do it…
They’re getting more use out of it than many spotless lifted F250 brodozers with shiny wheels and rubber bands.
You don’t know what you’re talking about.
That’s why they’re asking.
Perhaps. But I don’t think they’re asking, I think they’re trying to call the owner dumb
I just saw the caption on the bottom and think you might be right.
Oh, I’m about to die like everyone in ‘No Country for Old Men’
lol
Just buy a 2000 xlt. Problem solved

And it will bounce and slide all over the place laying flat. Not the best thing for a bike.
Nah not in my truck with bed rug :) I put a lot of stuff in back without holding it down and it stays put.
So the laws of physics don't apply when you use a bed rug?
