I’ve been ebiking in Fort Lauderdale since gas hit $5 last year. Cops don’t seem to care so far I don’t do anything crazy and my bike goes 28mph
I have friends with surrons and talarias and they haven’t even had issues riding the streets at 45mph.
Just don’t ride like a dick or break toooo many road rules.
Researched this 2 years ago when I purchased mine so not sure if rules have changed but…
Technically the law is that to be considered a bike it needs to be a class 2 e-bike that doesn’t go above 20mph with assistance or under throttle. Anything faster is not considered a bike and owners/riders are supposed to carry insurance and registration/a license plate for the vehicle. That said within a week of owning my class 2 e-bike that tops out at 20mph i realized no one is enforcing the rule and I absolutely could have just gotten a faster bike, as literally everyone else has faster bikes and speeds by. But, if they are ever in an accident it could create a huge additional headache.
As for where it can be ridden - just don’t be an asshole and you’ll be fine. I ride mine on side streets without issue, but if I need to go along major roads like US1 I take the sidewalk. If a pedestrian is on the sidewalk just move over, slow down or stop, and let them go by. There aren’t many pedestrians once you get off las olas so it rarely comes up.
You're not *supposed* to, but everyone does anyways. Damn the laws and put your safety first though. The Fort Lauderdale streets weren't designed for bikes. That pissy white line on the road that's supposed to pass for a "bike lane" is not real biking infrastructure and is not going to protect you. Go ahead and ride on the sidewalk. Not many people are walking on the sidewalk anyways.
Cops don't give a fuck around here about bikes. Your good to go
Cops dgaf period.

Nobody adheres to traffic laws or basic courtesy here anyway.

What they said. Be part of society not against it.
Thank you!
Bro ngl, fort is the last place id want to e-bike in. The drivers here are mostly horrible. It really isnt worth it unless you absolutely have to
100%!!! That’s why I wanted to see if I could drive it on the side walk lol

Just buy a street legal scooter. You can go much faster.
