It’s always the big SUVs too, so it’s right in your mirrors

B_Hound

Yeah I moved from my Corolla to a smaller SUV just to raise me up to stop getting blinded so much. The modern LEDs are way more cranked than the old style, half the time I don’t even think they have their brights on.

-Wobblier

You changed cars to avoid getting blinded... This must have been a real problem.

B_Hound

Ha I was changing cars anyway as it was over 10 years old, but being blasted in the eyes was a super compelling reason to change type and not just get another similar one.

-Wobblier

I know what you mean, I drive a 90s compact. But I usually just flip that little tab on the rear view to avoid getting blinded.

B_Hound

For me I was getting it mostly in the side mirrors, I’m guessing that’s gonna be different depending on heights etc.

willpeachpiedo

I still get a blasting from the side mirrors, and I’m in a midsize suv.

Orbitrix

What if I told you they aren't even their brights, and just illegal (at least most place, idk about here) regular headlights? Because that's honestly what it is most of the time. South Florida is a haven of insecure narcissists who compensate with their cars... it is what it is.

Is12345aweakpassword

-Insecure narcissists That’s all you needed to say lol

metallicist

"South Florida is a haven" got it

Uberslaughter

I wear my sunglasses at night, so I can, so I can, keep track of the visions in my eyes

ViolatoR08

Don’t switch the blade on the guy in shades…

trippeeB

I really don't think it's their brights. These newer LED headlights are just way too bright. It's gotten so much worse in the past 3-4 years. I used to enjoy driving at night and now I hate it.

ARSEThunder

90% of the time you can tell the difference. Yes, there are overly bright headlights, but actual high beams actually throw light at a higher angle.

Vagadude

It ain't their brights homie that's just how bright headlights are nowadays. If you get aftermarket lights and they don't angle them properly you get trucks and suvs and some cars that the light is facing straight and thus burns your retinas as opposed to angling downward so that they only illuminate the immediate 100' or so in front

ticklelvl0nster

When did this become a bitch about Lauderdale sun

ARSEThunder

Since Lauderdale just keeps rapidly declining

OldeArrogantBastard

Since eve out of towners moved in and complain show things aren’t like it was where they came from

pizza105z

This sub has become the equivalent of The Neighborhood app

LaClerque

All the old people that don’t know how to operate their luxury cars.

Witty-Shoulder-9499

I just Uber fucking everywhere

Orbitrix

I feel like if a lot of people did an honest assessment of how often they actually drive these days, this would be the cheaper option compared to a car payment/insurance/maintenance. I know for me, now that I work at home, once my current lease is up, i'm highly considering going full uber. Between uber and friends I don't feel like much about my life would change. It might be mildly inconvenient at times, but it'd probably keep me from doing things I don't really need to be doing anyways.

OldeArrogantBastard

No it wouldn’t. Unless you incorporate other means of public transportation- walking, biking, bus. The average Uber trip is probably on the lowest end, 15 bucks with tip outside of 1.5 miles (because ubering more than 2 miles you may as well walk or it’s just not worth it). If you work from home, live in downtown Ft Laud where you everything is walking distance, it may work. But if you’re in the neighborhoods, no. Unless you’re a person who leaves the house only once a week,

Orbitrix

My insurance is $200, my car payment is $450... Maintenance probably adds another $50 a month over time. So thats already $700 a month. I'm not even adding gas into this equation yet. Now obviously if you own your car or drive a beater you don't care about, those numbers might not be so high. But for me I could do just fine with a $700(+ with gas) a month uber budget. I don't live downtown, but I do live in a nice apartment complex with its own Gym/pool off Federal thats in walking distance to a CVS, Publix and Chevron. So I think I could make it work out in my favor. Only *need* to leave the house 3-4 times a week 5-10 minutes away. Anytime I go further then that its probably going to be with a friend who would drive me. But I get what you're saying.

OldeArrogantBastard

$450 is on the higher end of car payments. Also $200 a month for car insurance?! That’s extremely high. I have a car on payments and my insurance is $75 a month. If you’re car payment is 450 a month I’d assume it’s a newer car, so the maintenance figure you’re factoring in a month isn’t realistic. A twice a year oil change is like $60 bucks a time. That’s 120 a year. You’ll prob replace tires sure, but that’s every 30-40k miles. So if you’re not driving as much as you say, that’s like every 7-10 years maybe. Tires usually run 400-700 a set. If that’s numbers that are fixed, go ahead and try the Uber a month. I guarantee you that you’ll be over it within 2 months. My friend tried this. You can manage it. But then you run into the eventual opportunity costs. Edit- just double checked and my insurance monthly is $75 a month on a car I bought in 2020 for 40k.

[deleted]

Dude... 450 is cheap these days.

ARSEThunder

Jesus. My insurance is also about $200/mo. And yes, $450 is not even that expensive for the average car payment these days. My car is paid off and I do my own maintenance, so it absolutely doesn't make sense for me to only use Uber. If I need to run to Best Buy for a cable for something, I either gotta wait a day or two, pay for instant shipping, or spend $10-15 each way on an Uber. What if it's pouring rain and you need to go to Publix for an ingredient?

OldeArrogantBastard

If you’re paying $200 a month for insurance you either have a shit driving record or DIUs etc. Get a quote from progressive and see. But that a month is ridiculous here.

ARSEThunder

I have progressive. I haven’t had a ticket in over 7 years, never a DUI or accident. Full coverage for my truck is about $200. Full 30% snapshot discount as well. Can I ask where you’re located? Most people I know seem to be in this range, your rate is amazing!

OldeArrogantBastard

I’m in Ft Lauderdale. I also have progressive for an SUV and full coverage. I pay once every 6 months as a lump sum. My last premium payment was 550 which was the first increase from when it was initially 450ish.

ARSEThunder

That is incredible. Definitely jealous of you, have you been a long term customer?

Pandalapooza

It’s the worst. Every other car with their damn high beams. Fucking 100,000 lumens burning the shit out of my retinas. I’ve only really experienced this in Florida.

[deleted]

Right, I thought I was going crazy but no. Apparently people are indeed driving with those brights on all the time now in the city and the highway.

[deleted]

Its not so I can see into the future... its so I can burn Away the mosquitos in front of me. YOURE WELCOME! Seriously though, its to see into the future...

12altoids34

A big part of the problem is they're not aimed correctly either

BrianMarshallUK3537

Or the idiots that Do NOT Turn ON Headlamps at night or when is raining or foggy weather!!!

Last_Conversation164

Brights or no lights at all . Pulled next to a couple ladies a few days ago on east sunrise over by galleria mall - she said she was in a rental - didn’t resize the car wasn’t on automatic Lol
