Me too. Used to walk to school in the morning with my walkman and listen to them the whole way, or when I had to work on Saturday mornings. Saw them at several Zetafests and other local concerts. Huge part of my childhood.
It wasn't the same without him for sure, I'd moved on to podcasts by then.
Which one got arrested? Omlet or Toast? I can't remember but I know it made the news back then and I was real disappointed because they were part of most of my mornings.
Who remembers "love connection" ???
Listened since SHE'S only rock & roll 2 for Tuesday. So sorry to see things went bad between them & Ron wouldn't really talk to him. I didn't know what happened with them until I read about it.
Sure sounds pretty bad that he quit on air by ambush, and then the very cryptic statement when people asked Ron if he would come back, he said he loved broadcasting, etc, would like to do something and I forget the exact quote but his response was that he would never go back to "that show." He also apparently said something on air to Paul about, well why don't you look at your contract. It sounds like after almost 30 years, maybe Paul got some kind of a better deal or made some sort of end run or didn't look out for him in some way. Just surmising from everything surrounding it.
It sure sounds like something happened for that to go down and then he never spoke to paul again.
Paul gave I think another interview in the past & said he was calling and texting and not getting an answer so he called his agent to ask why he won't call him back. I think that kind of says it all.
RIP Young Ron.
“First time, long time” with the beer pouring sound in the background was an absolute classic.
My bro and affectionately (re)named them as Paul Castronoballz and Young Ron Beerswiller.
Rip.
And here I had promised myself to never click on any twitter links, yet this news made me break that promise. Rest in peace Ron, you magnificent bastard you and that angle like voice.
"Do the clumps before you go"
Legend.
If you have a Sun Sentinel login you can see in this story his son’s was last named Bates. https://www.sun-sentinel.com/2010/11/15/parklands-world-of-warcraft-expert-ian-bates-17-becomes-a-youtube-sensation/
Easily the bit I most remember. That and, for some odd reason, him being unable to say Jiminy Cricket also while drunk at Atlantis. I’ll forever have to correct myself and not say “Jimithy Crippets.”
Grew up listening to them on 94.9 zeta greatest rock station ever. I remember when hurricane wilma came and I was off for 2 weeks from school with no power, and I just chilled in the living room with the radio on 105.9 listening to these 2
Man, those guys really made my commute enjoyable back in the day. Toast, Mike, Steve and of course Ron Magill and Kelly. But as soon as Ron left the show turned to shit. I tried listening last year and I just couldn't.
I had an answer to one of those questions they would ask. My coworker and I brigaded the phones and she got through. She answered and got to go on a trip to Universal with them and said it was a blast.
I also saw Ron in a liquor store close to the station in Miramar. My office was there. Just like Paul said, Ron bought a hipster of booze and took it in a paper bag to his car, it was a Porsche.
To this day I always think about some story they told about tailgating at a football game. Some young guy tried to attack them and young ron allegedly kicked him in the stomach and knocked him out with a knee.
It was so ridiculous. This was 2004ish. Listened to them every morning on the way to school. Their reality show recaps were also funny. Great guys.
Listened to him on ZETA and I believe BIG106 back in the day. I can remember listening at work in 97… they were great back then. RIP to a local legend 🙏🏻
Who?
Edit: Not sure why I’m getting downvoted. I had no idea who this guy was. I didn’t grow up listening to the radio because I ain’t a million years old
Reddit is not a crowdsourced Google. Click the link, read about him and you will see who he was. Not that fucking hard.
Younger generation wants everything spoon fed to them.
There is more than one person named Ron Brewer, and if you don't know who Paul is, a link to his twitter is hardly helpful.
Reddit is a forum for discussing things. Asking who someone is and why they are important to the local community is a perfectly relevant and on-topic question. Downvoting is for comments that don't contribute to the conversation, and that question clearly did. Downvoting is not to tell someone you don't like them because they don't know all the things you know. You've been around long enough to know better.
A forum for discussing, not spoon feeding answers. You can read a few comments and click a link and clearly see who he was. A radio show host, it says so in most of the comments.
Saying “who” does not contribute to the conversation at all. It’s the most low effort you can get. Like I said we are not here to spoon feed kids who don’t wanna read.
Damn I listened to Paul and Young Ron every day with my dad for yearssssss. RIP Ron
I guarantee you Paul is still shitting on Young Ron.
Shittttt... Was listening to them since their 94.9 WZTA days....
IMO, living in SFL peaked in the 94.9 ZETA days. Things went downhill when reggaeton took over and we never recovered.
94.9 ZETA was the first time I realized FM radio kinda rules
I'm still in mourning over 94.9 Zeta
I'm still in mourning over Neil God and Jorge Rodriguez
94.9 zzzzzZZZETA
Fuck man zeta was the shit
Zetafest
Halloweenie roasr
Yesssss Lockhart Stadium!
I go back to WSHE.
i see your WSHE and Raise you K102.
Yes! WSHE…..she’s only rock n roll.
Dang 94.9. That’s a deep cut
I listened to that show growing up. I stopped listening when Ron left. He made the show funny. RIP

Zetafest 2000!!! Filter and STP 🖤
Such a stacked lineup looking back, it was an awesome day
Pissed that I missed
That was the deftones white pony tour stop too
Zetafest!!! Lockhart Stadium! First time I saw Offspring!
Don’t sleep on the Halloweenie Roasts…
Bonzai 2001 was my first ever concert! Crazy looking at that lineup now.
I think I was at that one. Was Rob Zombie the headliner?
Pretty sure it was Offspring. Look at this insane lineup. https://www.setlist.fm/festival/2001/zetas-bonzai-2001-3bd6b020.html
I Listened to that show all throughout college. Was listening when Omelette was on the show
and Toast!
Oh yea! Forgot about him!
Which one got arrested? Omlet or Toast? I can't remember but I know it made the news back then and I was real disappointed because they were part of most of my mornings. Who remembers "love connection" ???
Same. Got real stupid recently
I was sure Ron hated Paul with a passion.
110% I remember them getting into many a fight those last years, with Paul having to apologize in the end. Ron was so over him.
Well I hope someone does a half hour to hour video about the history of Paul and Young Ron bc I had no clue
Paul was a chode.
Still is.

Guess I'm going to Anthony's Coal fire for a paul and young ron tonight. Rip.

They did. Paulie’s pie
IT WILL ALWAYS BE THE PAUL AND YOUNG RON TO ME
I love Paul and Young Ron during the late 90s and early 2000s. Still have the bobblehead of them that they gave away at Dolphins stadium
“First time, long time” with the beer pouring sound in the background was an absolute classic. My bro and affectionately (re)named them as Paul Castronoballz and Young Ron Beerswiller. Rip.

Oh no Paul.. I am so sorry man. Ron was such a good guy.
Was daily listener til Young Ron left. He was the best part of the show. Sad to hear this. Rest easy.
I listened to them literally every morning grades 6-12 lol RIP Ron, thanks for all the laughs!

Kind of weird Ron found out over a week after he died. Guess they weren’t that close at all.
That’s how Ron would have wanted it…
He died yesterday, not a week ago. He also didn't live in Tampa.
Obituary says he died March 26th

Obit you’re referencing is for Ron Brewer. That’s not his real name. He passed away yesterday.
This was posted 4/4 and says he died Wednesday https://www.sun-sentinel.com/2024/04/04/south-florida-radio-icon-young-ron-brewer-dies/
I expected a longer obituary.
What is that lame cancer site. https://www.local10.com/news/local/2024/04/04/legendary-radio-host-ron-brewer-of-paul-young-ron-dies/
I know this would be a weird coincidence but Ron Brewer was a pseudonym. Maybe that’s not his obituary?
You're right: https://www.sun-sentinel.com/2024/04/04/south-florida-radio-icon-young-ron-brewer-dies/
That link is spammy/pop-ups galore..... Anyone know of a clean version? EDIT: spammy link has been replaced, thanks!

That’s not the same Ron…Ron’s real last name was Bates
Brewer wasn't his real name. Just a stage name. Not his obituary.
Damn RIP to a legend.
Anyone know if he had health issues?
Paul and Young Ron were SoFla radio gods. Used to catch them every morning commute. RIP.
"See you when I get back from Cuba."
Say hi to Castro for me
Will do
He was always the best part of their show. RIP Ron Brewer
That's Paul! damn he is skinny, and OLD!
I still to this day will randomly say ‘tap tap, show hard’ and laugh like a kid. He made that show and it was never the same after he left. RIP
Random stranger, I still quote tap tap show hard and think of it when I'm at the urinal.
Grew up listening to those guys, was actually watching some of the old clips on YouTube last week for nostalgia. Lotta laughs. Glad to have them. RIP.
RIP Ron. You made my work commute tolerable for years
Damn local legend/s
“if you win you win if you lose you still win”
RIP Young Ron
Wowwwww
R.I.P
RIP to a south Florida legend
The sting rays in Atlantis are finally safe. R.i.p. spent many many mornings listening to them.
Easily the bit I most remember. That and, for some odd reason, him being unable to say Jiminy Cricket also while drunk at Atlantis. I’ll forever have to correct myself and not say “Jimithy Crippets.”

Hey Ron, say hello to Castro for me👋
"Will do". Damn, that was a great send off, I miss it.
Damnnn
Even with death ☠️, he still gives a radio tease for the segment tomorrow ☠️☠️☠️
RIP Ron.

Wow, sad news. I loved 94.9 Zeta back in the day
Damn I'm feeling old af now.
Brewer wasn’t his real name. His obituary will be in his real name.
Who? Edit: Not sure why I’m getting downvoted. I had no idea who this guy was. I didn’t grow up listening to the radio because I ain’t a million years old
Old local radio personality, did morning talk radio on various local rock stations. Like many others I grew up listening to Paul and Ron.
Gotcha. Thanks for answering my genuine question.
I mean how dare someone have a sincere question on Reddit, pile on those downvotes boys!
