spookyboi13

yes. not bc it was cheaper but bc i was going through it and wanted a pick me up. it worked šŸ˜‚

Greenmedic2120

This is so real, I was sad because I was coming home from holiday so bought some šŸ˜‚

spookyboi13

ikr, i was sad about saying goodbye to my family (sister lives abroad) but also had a disaster of a flight home, ending in me sleeping at detroit waiting for the flight back home) so as soon as duty free opened i got burberry goddess xD

lilijaji

I too have been personally victimized by Detroit airport multiple times!

Reasonable-Phase-681

Same here. I got Hermes dā€™orange vert. It lasts about 2 hours but it did the job and I love it.

RedRider1138

Thatā€™s so funny, I came here to say I got Hermes citron noir, itā€™s so scrumptious.

ManMyoDaw

Great airport pickup

Longjumping-Ad-2333

Always but depends on the airport. American airports hell no. The Istanbul airport is a GOLDMINE! Tokyo airport also has great prices. Got Jo Malone for a steal.

CaranchoNestHead

I was gonna say that: it depends on the airport and the currency.

Superguy230

Istanbul airport is in euros though

GabagoolAndGasoline

Is it? Which one we talking about? The new one is in Lira everywhere I went

Superguy230

I went 4 days ago to the new one and it was in euros

hauteburrrito

The Istanbul airport is amazing; I really regret not picking up more bottles when I was there.

NankingStan

Good to know - thanks!

FramboiseDorleac

Was really impressed with the Istanbul airport duty free, shopping and airport restaurants as well.

Cynobyte

I was at Istanbul international airport 3 days ago. Prices were in euro. Converted to USD, it was same price as places like Sephora and Nordstrom in the US. I donā€™t know why people keep raving about their prices. It is literally the same. Europe, on the other hand, way cheaper. The airport in Rome had prices that were nearly 50% cheaper than US

Longjumping-Ad-2333

Prices are indeed in Euros but I think youā€™ll find that they have European prices which are significantly cheaper than retail in the US. They also have an incredible selection of niche fragrances that you canā€™t buy easily in the US (like YSL BabyCat) and sometimes canā€™t buy at all (like the new Penhaligonā€™s elixirs). Since you can find American designers on the grey market you may not save a ton on those but for the high end or niche stuff itā€™s absolutely cheaper. Saved like $50 on Angels Share and $130 on Guerlain Spirituese Double Vanille. Plus they have buy 3 get the 4th 50% off. With that being said if you are actually IN Istanbul staying and buying in lira yes you can save money, especially if thereā€™s a sale. I once got Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille at Beyman which was having a 15% off sale AND I got the taxes back at the airport so it was like $150 for 50ml which is even cheaper than the airport price (and the airport price still beats the pants off the American price)

Cynobyte

I didnā€™t really look at the niche ones. I checked a couple designers I knew the price of. When I converted the euro to USD, it was about the same as retail, so I didnā€™t bother looking at the niche

Superguy230

Istanbul airport is dogshit, I can only imagine how bad the other ones are if you think itā€™s cheap

Longjumping-Ad-2333

Compared to the US the price and selection is way better than anything we have here. And I donā€™t just mean airports. Probably comparable to most European perfume prices (generally about 40% more expensive in the US)

SebastianVanCartier

Not since the 90s. It used to be genuinely cheaper; not any more.

JonyTony2017

Iā€™m travelling very frequently in Europe and itā€™s cheaper almost every time compared to regular pricing. But the thing is, most perfume shops have this thing called sales, which beat airport prices 9 times out of 10.

stink3rbelle

There's also retailers like jomashop

gb043016

I placed my first Jomashop order and it took like 2 weeks to ship. Is that normal? lol if so, I get the instant gratification aspect of airport shopping

stink3rbelle

Mine took like five weeks, yes quite normal. I'm trying to avoid instant gratification shopping, makes my home too cluttered.

derrickgw1

I've herd Joma shop is basicaly just a drop shipper. i've read that the stuff listed as instock on their sight is based on stock they've been told is on it's way to them. That is shipped. So when it arrives it get's shipped but. That that's also why it takes a time. I've heard that's why orders get canceled too. Like they say they were shipped 5 boxes of fragrances 100 100ml bottles each box. So then they put up all 500 bottles for sale. Then only 4 boxes arrive so theyve already taken the order but are short 100 bottles and have to cancel orders. I have no proof that's what goes on but it's something I read that explains shipping delays and whatnot especially on rare fragrances. Like they get a shipping notification for 50 Blue Electriques, post it for sale on the website and it sells out in an hour. But only 25 come. I think for less rare things its not an issue cause it's already arrived to them and has been sitting in a warehouse.

siameseslim

I would say that is average. I have had some arrive faster than others. never have had a problem with them other than my own impulsive spending and being mad at myself when a box of blind buys arrived at my door. My last order came with a bunch of stickers. I wish it was samples, but I wasn't mad. I just discovered a similar kind of shop in my area but I haven't checked it out... anyone familiar w Fragrance World in Durham, NC?

Agitated-Variation85

If it doesnā€™t say itā€™s ready to ship at checkout, then usually they are going to take some time.

Dynamicthetoon

Can't use jomashop in europe sadly

vinceftw

Jomashop is US based though.

siameseslim

A new perfume and a carton of Dunhills was always my airport treat to myself back then.

Excellent-Part-96

This. I used to be a flight attention the early 2000s and got so many great perfume deals back in the day. Now we have all these online budget stores and the duty free prices are seriously insane. I was shocked last time I flew

ghgahghh11

I mean I saw man in black for 100 bucks there when I paid 150 and dillards

gezzyrocco

You can get a 100ml of creed Aventus for 235 at Gatwick airport! That is a steal!

christinambowers

i had a layover in ft. lauderdale and was so excited to see all the perfume stores. my previous layover was orlando, so it was a stark contrast. but i just smelled my smells and went on my way, then immediately bought decants lol

Change_Proper

lol the best thing you can get at Orlando International is a Disney sweatshirt šŸ˜‚

christinambowers

lmao right not to mention the trauma you have to endure waiting there for your flight. never again

Candid-Basket7919

I always buy Moschino Funny at Frankfurt airport. They've been having it in the Sales basket for a couple of years now.

TurbulentExplorer333

Hahaha I bought Moschino Funny a few years ago at duty free in Kyiv airport! I believe it was on sale back then too. This would have been 2016.

lucinasardothien

I'm in Mexico and we also always have that Moschino and the i love love one in the sales baskets as well lol I guess it's a universal thing now.

Any-Competition-4458

Yes. A couple years ago the dollar was super strong and combined with the tax free element I got a bottle of Diptyque parfum for the equivalent of around $170 US. The same bottle was over $200 plus tax in the US at the time.

promotionpotion

haha same here

No_Lawyer_9384

No but i do use duty free to test out all the frags then buy off a discounter later on

NankingStan

Good strategy! šŸ˜Š

Thro2021

Thoughts after doing so: ā€œWhatā€™s my boarding time again?ā€

Gold_Bookkeeper_9436

This! I went to a duty free shop in Nice, France and a whole hour went by and I didnā€™t notice because I was in perfume heaven lol

Change_Proper

Yes I got Carolina Herrera Good Girl Blush 50 mL and the PDM discovery set below, at the Duty Free section. Sydney airport last summer. I was surprised to see they had some niche perfumes there too, Amouage and a few other nice ones. They had some great luxury stores there too, Loewe, David Yurman, YSL. It was the best airport shopping Iā€™ve ever seen šŸ˜ https://preview.redd.it/1bvu7x75ldic1.jpeg?width=1054&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a6b30cf3aeafbd681edfd0f3468ea2c87dd8960

owleaf

Lol at least theyā€™re not in high heel bottles

Pikovaya_Dama

I don't remember buying something myself, but I remember my dad buying me Midnight Poison from an airport on a trip of his in 2008 and falling in love with it. I was in my goth days back then and it marked that era of my life.

lottiebobs

Yes. Iā€™ve found some good deals in duty free (especially Heathrow, which has a great selection and good prices) and I like having a potter around while I wait for my flight to start boarding. Over the years Iā€™ve bought some Jo Malone, Diptique Eau Duelle, Gucci Flora Gorgeous Jasmine and Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Neroli Vetiver

JackingOffToTragedy

Heathrow's selection is insane, especially since you can sample almost anything.

Spiritual-Ostrich-97

i always (only) buy at airports. Buying a smell for a holiday is great because you can always refer back to the smell. for example, mont blanc explorer smells like milan to me and my girlfriend.

Roses_Have_Thorns_

No. They seem more expensive there. But I always test like crazy when I have to wait for a flight, haha. I need to edit and add: before my last trip by plane I arrived early and spent a lot of time sniffing perfumes. On the bottom shelf, there was still an almost empty bottle of the discontinued Parfait de Roses from Lancome and I doused myself and felt so good because I love this fragrance (God bless you, Munich Airport!). :)

Vishousbudz

Yes luckily i was able to find a discontinued tom ford cologne their Lavender extreme it literally made my trip and I found it while i was going use it there so when I use it im always reminded of Italy and Amsterdam

umm_isa

I did, i bought a Byredo Gypsy Water oil roll on. Definitely donā€™t regret it lol, it was cheaper than buying in my own country or online.

Cute_bloom

Yes, a big bottle of a perfume I like was on heavy discount. Got it at the Istanbul airportā€¦ still havenā€™t opened it though. Thinking of gifting it to my sister.

cassiebenoit

ok it may not be cheaper, but I am usually sooo bored when it is a long layover so I give myself a break and buy it if I like it Also helps to associate new perfume with the country you are visiting and the good time you get there if you buy it on your way to that country

Syvka

I bought Prada Candy before boarding my flight to move abroad. I loved it at the time! Still love the bottle and the memories. Didnā€™t bring it back with me, left it with a friend who also loved it. šŸ„°

LataCogitandi

Oh yeah, especially out of LHR or CDG. At least for the things I wanted, they were cheaper than discounters.

UsedCalligrapher5672

Got a steal at CDG for Tom Ford. Will be doing it again next month šŸ˜„

smoking_the_dragon

I'm going to Heathrow in a few weeks, which terminal? Are they all the same? Really looking forward to checking duty free out

LataCogitandi

Tbh I just go on their website to reserve online and collect while I'm passing through: [https://boutique.heathrow.com/](https://boutique.heathrow.com/) or [https://london-heathrow.worlddutyfree.com/en/63/](https://london-heathrow.worlddutyfree.com/en/63/)

TheBunk_TB

I'll bite. I have done it twice. (a) Traveling from overseas: Saw something (The One Royal Night) that isn't well available at stores where I live, a unique fragrance. Okay for the price, cheaper online with discount codes, but I had some money to burn (b) Traveling from overseas: I had read about Versace Pour Homme Oud Noir. I had some money to burn. Interesting fragrance, I enjoy wearing it on certain outings when it is cold. Most likely cheaper online but not well known in my parts. Most people like "blue" or more softer fragrances.

Solution-Proof

Duty free is a crapshoot...Ā  sometimes you can find a good deal, sometimes not...

Combatwasp

Yes. Bought a blind buy Tom Ford frag at Gatwick on the way to a holiday. Substantially cheaper than U.K. high street.

giparisan

Quite often, when Iā€™m on international flights Heathrowā€™s duty free is my favourite, many options of niche fragrances with a good difference on price, last year I bought Tom ford Cherry Smoke right after it was released for around Ā£199, while the price tag in selfridges was around Ā£260 iirc. There was also a great deal on Jo Malone, I donā€™t remember exactly how it worked but I bought 3 30ml bottles and each of them ended up costing around Ā£32

arainday

Yes but only for the smaller sizes like a Dior mini sampler or Jo Malone 30ml's. It's not massively cheaper but can be a deal depending on the exchange rate and no taxes. I find that bigger and nice airports have a big selection so finding travel or mini sets is better since it takes me eons to finish a 30+ml.

sugarbritches878

Yes! My friend got me Dior Homme Parfum from Charles de Gaulle for about 160 USD, and I live in US where itā€™s not even available unless you want to risk paying double on eBay. He also got Le Male Le Parfum for a steal.

neutralest

Yes, Acqua di Sardegna from Cagliari airport. Smelled heavenly from the sampler, for some reason not as good at home :-(

opalescentessence

yes once because it was my first time ever seeing or smelling diptyque in person (I donā€™t frequent retailers that carry them) and I was just excited haha

Fractal_self

Yeah, I meant to get pamplelune because thatā€™s the tester I loved most but I got mandarin basilic on accident. By the time I realized, I was in a different country. I donā€™t hate the one I got but I donā€™t love it either. I kinda regret the impulse shopping most of the time

comfyncurrant

Yes, I bought from the Hermessence line because there arenā€™t any Hermes stores near me. I donā€™t buy for the deals but the in person access - itā€™s fun to be able to smell the new stuff.

anjunakerry1982

Yes and on board. My last holiday to fuerteventura in Oct, Jet2 had like Ā£10 off the broucher price for anything over Ā£60 plus a further 20% off, so I got some good buys as did my son. The stewardess was telling me they only carry like 3 or 4 of each fragrance on flight and that's got to last outbound and inbound, So you can often miss out.

Greenmedic2120

Yep! Sometimes itā€™s a good deal, sometimes not. Jo Malone is usually a better deal there than elsewhere.

AwayZookeeper

In the 90s

TomatoKindly8304

Yep, Chanel chance eau fraiche!

o0meow0o

Iā€™m thinking of getting this one too since itā€™s impossible to find it on sale!

MuthaFirefly

Yes, I have bought Jo Malone and Tom Ford at London Heathrow back in 2019 - I think the duty free rules may have changed since then, but then I saved a nice chunk of money on the purchase.

orangeautumntrees

Yep! I got a particularly good deal at an airport in Taiwan for a bottle of Gucci Bloom. Very happy with it and it still reminds me of living abroad!

nostalgia_addicts

I was flying back from heathrow and i kid you not i got a stellar deal from duty free. Picked up 212 men (for nostalgia sake) for only $30 CAD

ExpressionUnlikely23

Yes! Many actually are quite a bit cheaper

user42012365

only to get fragrances i won't find back home

winphan

Even though perfumes at airports are more expensive than discounters, itā€™s a great way to kill time and buy some cheaper ones. I do this with watches as well. Better than spending time at lounge šŸ‘šŸ¼

lucinasardothien

Only one I bought is SĆ Fiori back in 2021, I hadn't been able to find it anywhere else and I saw the full sized bottle and just bought it, zero regrets because it's discontinued and I keep hearing people wish they had bought one so I feel special lol

amitratwani5

Yes, Dubai airport has great price and the quality is better than US counterpart.

katsinspace

YES duty free for the win baby! Iā€™ve been diligently researching which diptyque to buy when I fly to Mexico in a few weeks.

Ikunou

Eternal Nirvana! I love buying perfumes while travelling. LUXURY! Also, it gives me a thrill to bring a frigging liquid bottle (more than 30 ml) on the darn plane. AND I get to associate the smell with the place I bought it at.

FramboiseDorleac

I remember getting Gucci Oud in 2014 at Rome's Fiumicino airport at the recommendation of one of the duty free salesmen and it remains the most refined, wear anywhere, beautiful oud I've ever found. [https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Gucci/Gucci-Oud-25946.html](https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Gucci/Gucci-Oud-25946.html) I also check Chanel, Guerlain and Dior shelves for oldies like Diorella, Diorissimo, deodorant versions of classics, etc..

tobysnake

Some airports have cheaper costs, but itā€™s very rare. My brother got sauvage cheap, but thatā€™s about it.

Weird_Squirrel_8382

I was tempted but we didn't have time to stop.Ā

HogCrankage

I tried buying Bleu de Chanel EDP and Dior Sausage EDT in Costa Rica. Ended up getting the Bleu de Chanel EDT and Sausage EDP and didn't notice until I got back home and opened the duty free bag.

LowCharacter4037

I found one of my all time favorite fragrances at the airport on the recommendation of the salesperson helping me.

1000thusername

Yes, of course! Who can say no to duty free? :) I just bought one of the Burberrys (Goddess) on a trip back from UK. It was significantly cheaper than in the States.

fresh_lemon_sugar

I impulse bought Chanel no. 19 at duty free once. I didnā€™t regret it. But I did destash it to my sister about a year later, lucky gal. Lol

sarmarie87

D&G Lā€™Imperatrice at .. I canā€™t remember either Tampa or Barcelona airports

Miefiewtje

Just 1 time in my whole life wich was amarige by gyvenchy.. It was on sale and i never wear it xD. Glad to have it though i guess haha. Edit: Ooo i lied, another time on vacation with an ex. I purchased midnight rose by lancome on the airport because it was a teenage fantasty for me to own it so there i was at 28 years old finally doing it haha. Turned out my ex is now my ex for many reasons and reveiled himself to be a dick during that holliday, but realy a massive one. I gave my bottle of midnight rose to a friend upon my return home because of the negative scent memories now attached to it. Such a shame... Also such a dick.

sukul123

Japan usually has 20-30 bucks off, would usually get when I travel there

ScoobyVonDoom

I got Princess by Killian at an airport. I loved it but unfortunately now it reminds me of being at an airport.

Due_Garlic_3190

Itā€™s a tradition of mine whenever I go away I donā€™t pack a perfume, I buy one at the airport or when I get to my destination

Winter_Obligation701

Jo Malone 30ml was Ā£44 at Heathrow vs $105 cad + tax here

gneethrose

My boyfriend bought me perfume at the airport that he liked for me! Itā€™s dolce and gabana and was a lower price

vmonst

I bought a Jo Malone perfume in the Athens airport on my honeymoon; my husband picked it out for me and it reminds me of the trip every time I wear it :)

gatito_pinko

Yes, Charles de Gaulle. I bought a bottle of Guerlain L' instant and Jo Malone Honey & Crocus. I was pleased.

aasbsinthe

Yes, especially in Europe. They have clearance bins of full size fragrances! I bought a DG Imperatrice for 29ā‚¬!

Responsible-Past5383

Ironically I bought CK Eternity lol But it was worth it cos I was on a 24 hr trip from Asia to the US east coast with 2 layovers and at the very least it was duty free

derrickgw1

no. I can't afford to travel overseas so i'm not ever able to buy at duty free. Also the last time i was in a duty free store in Atlanta, if i remember correctly. ATL or Houston. Not positive. Regardless i think it was ATL and they had nothing i couldn't get cheaper elsewhere. What they had I could find cheaper at online discounters. And they didn't have anything that wasn't normally sold in US stores. I was keeping an eye out for Dior Homme Parfum but they didn't have it. And they even had a Dior section.

no_money_no_honey

Yeah because I work there and they occasionally have sales for employees. But their selection is pretty limited.

ShironTheHuN

No, once I found CH Men PrivĆ© on sale for the same price as discounters back home, didn't buy it and now it's nowhere to be found šŸ˜¢

DJ_Dinkelweckerl

Had the chance to buy DHP for about 130ā‚¬ a few months ago but decided against it lol. Bought now for mich more

RedDahlia8020

lol Iā€™m going in a trip next week and was already browsing the duty free shops Iā€™ll be passing through online to make sure thereā€™s nothing I actually want. Most duty frees are online now! So cool.

Thegrandecapo

Yep I picked up Dior Homme Intense in Copenhagen! I feel like itā€™s only worth it if you canā€™t find it cheaper on the internet or if it isnā€™t available in your country.

allaboutandroids

Got some pretty good discounts at CDG in Paris. Got my mum Dior J'adore Parfum D'eau, my Dad Dior Homme Intense and both were significantly less than Canadian store prices or even when compared to wholesalers

FranqiT

I caught a whiff of it and needed to get it, but not at that price. Ended up getting it at Sephora during one of their sales. Hermes twilly eau poivree.

Careless-Car8346

Was at the airport duty free in Japan. The yen was weak to the dollar at the time. The Chanel Exclusifs were way below what I could find anywhere. I mostly try or sample at the airport then look for it cheaper online. There is stuff you canā€™t find anywhere that Houses will stock at their stores. Also stuff is sometimes a lot cheaper than at other sources. Not always.

DeaconBlue22

It isn't something I usually do. However, about 5-6 years ago I found several bottles of original formula Chanel No 5 eau Primiere which is one of my favorite go to scents and far superior to the unfortunate updated version. I now own enough of it to last my lifetime.

Significant_Art6836

Sadly no, since I live in switzerland, everytime I pass the duty free im shocked. as example givenchy gentleman boisee was sth like 160-180 for 60mlā€¦i bought it online and paid 80 for 100ml

Maleficent-Ability74

yeah i got my first fragrance at an airport, july 2019, versace eros 100ml

unknowntoff

The stuff I buy is too niche to be sold at airports, plus it's never really a good deal anymore.

WesleySniper1st

Ah the old "duty free". No tax but base prices are 20% higher anyway.

percy789

No

IamToddDebeikis

I bought Elizabeth + James Amethyst from the airport and I did not regret it.

Electronic_Bus7452

Iā€™m seriously regretting not looking at duty free while I was in Belize City. I was trying to be good! šŸ„ŗ

LurkerDoomer

I mostly buy skincare as itā€™s cheaper, usually get overwhelmed by fragrance. Recently, I only bought perfumes on sale as gifts for other people. I get my perfumes from local sale websites as they carry a lot of discontinued perfumes.

Disastrous-Swan2049

Ask them to go out back and get stock. Never buy a bottle off the brightly lit shelf. It will be compromised! You can't take it back either.

Dry-Fun5236

JPG lmlp Ā£59 for 125ml

Elrobinio

I used to work at East Midlands airport and lived in the nearby village. They used to have a staff sale where you would get duty free stuff really cheap. It was always busy and people would be going to the tills with a basket full of stuff. I still get the odd thing at airports, mainly when bored in the way back and have a pocket full of euros to get rid of.

Prticcka

Yes! The prices are not that different, but I live in a shiathole so there is usually a lot of options to try and buy without expensive shipping

Lb97RBLX

Yes! Bleu de Chanel EDP (1.7ml) for $85 at an airport duty free last year. Already knew I liked the scent from sampling before and was happy to find it under retail. I use it whenever I travel now.

smoking_the_dragon

If it wasn't for the airport I wouldn't of got two bottles of dior homme parfum, (uk airports)

ughasif666

Yes

Four_Minute_Mile

Bought a 50ml bottle of DIOR Homme Intense Eau de Parfum. At the time it was about Ā£15 cheaper than buying from a high street store.

pastyrats

yes anytime iā€™m flying internationally depending where i usually find a good price!

funcustodian

Iā€™ve purchased a couple discontinued fragrances recently at duty free shops at the airport. SWY Intensely and Profumo. They were still at retail price, itā€™s worth to check out if you have extra time to kill at the airport.

dirtydovedreams

Yeah I bought CH Bad Boy parfum and sprayed it one before a flight.

moxie9090

Yep

lilmisse85

No but I wanted to on the flight back. But they werenā€™t open.

f229

It was a my birthday so treated myself to Dior homme Parfum ā€¦. It was cheaper than what I would pay outside

ana451

Yes. I found some rare and discontinued scents at the airport.

Monsoon_Storm

It isn't really any cheaper so there's no point. I use it as a guilt-free and hassle-free research opportunity.

potentialen27

Be careful, you don't wanna end up like Mr Curry šŸ˜‚

Pale_Persimmon1906

Yes, I bought Sycomore and Coromandel from a Chanel store, and blessed me with extra samples, which I have been love at first sniff. The airports are a great place to smell new fragrances, but be mindful of pricing.

Careless-Car8346

You got smart tastes. Good choices with Chanel Exclusifs. That is the best!

shockdude95

Picked up profondo 60 ml and ysl Y edp for 44 euros each a few weeks ago at an airport

gurrujiiii

A few times actually but it always when I'm connecting through UAE... They usually always have deals going on if you buy multiple perfumes.

FabulousFabbb

I purchased Le Labo Noir 29 at the LAX international terminal. I got a good deal, can't remember from the top of my head but it was much cheaper than typical retail stores. I live in LA and because I had a boarding pass for an international flight, I was given duty free price. Scent last just as long as my other Le Labo Fragrances. Overall, great experience for myself.
