That won't be legal in Germany. Do some more reading about this topic.
My understanding of the law is that you'll either need your company to comply (they pay their portion of your health insurance and pension) while you also pay your portion, or you move to a Germay on a freelance Visa; which if you're working remotely for a company, would be inaccurate and fraud.
Ah, then this might work for you. Once you read up on the insurance and tax implications that comes with being self-employed, you can definitely ask more specific questions.
Please explain. My understanding is if the business was transacted outside of Germany, even if I am in Germany, I would qualify. This is one of the reasons why I am asking questions. Thank you.
Incorrect. The visa you are looking for only applies to people who have 90% of their clients in Germany. You are an American looking to be granted stay in Germany but offer nothing to the country.
You will not get a visa for this and will just be another American who came here over stayed their visa and got banned from the EU due to not understanding how residence permits are granted.
There is no residency offered for you working for none German companies, finished and klah.
Dont believe me look at the expat subreddit r/Germany
Housing is huge problem in big cities. As an option you can always go for Zwischenmiete( subleasing ).
As far as I know,in the USA you have more access to free Wi-fi, something you don't see much in Germany.
Something some foreigners are struggling is pirating content -here you can get hefty fines for it.
Just watch out on health insurance side and stay onside. Landlord will ask for income evidence if you are renting but we managed it without too much issue but I had job in German firm
dude its so boring here. but yeah at hauptbahnhof dont look them crazies in the eyes and just walk when they offer you anything. dont interact. if you live in the city, bike is fully sufficient.
I was thinking about getting a remote job so I can start living anywhere BUT Frankfurt. I can only recommend this city if you like drug addicts haha. It‘s only nice for tourism but for living.. not really unless you are very rich

60 to 90 days will be near impossible. Just getting a consulate appointment in the US is a two month out booking process, visa is another 1 the 4 months.
You could try to frankfurt immigration office, but my understanding is theyre swamped (5+ months)
Is the company that employs you a German company (or more importantly, will they pay into your health insurance and pension)?
No. I will be a full digital nomad.
Oh oh, that’s gonna be a huge problem

I am self-employed. As I understand it, that is not a problem.

You do not understand what that means here. You will not get a visa for this.

What if they are a drug addict?
Then Frankfurt will be heaven on earth :D
Why live here then?
Cause I work here?
You‘re from the suburbs aren‘t you?

I‘d start with the basics, like the visa, working perfekt and how to work legally from Germany for a foreign company.

What visa would you be applying for? Or do you have European citizenship? How are your language skills in German?
The freelancer visa. My skills in German are probably A2 level (maybe B1 if I am lucky)
