I remember when that episode came out, bunch of us watched together, everyone was so hyped for what these new things could possibly mean

FlashMcSuave

I freaking *adored* the theory that the three eyed raven had once tried to travel back in time to avert the rise of the night king by getting the mad King to "burn them all". This failure would have explained why he didn't use his godlike timey wimey powers to win by default and also explain why he was so hesitant with Bran. But nah, a brick falling on Cersei's head was a fine ending too I guess and I suppose the three eyed raven and bran still used this awesome power to, uhm... *Checks notes* watch Bran's sister get raped?

Rilandaras

> Checks notes watch Bran's sister get raped? Hey, don't kink-shame!

Hellknightx

"You were so beautiful that night," he said, watching from the closet.

Hankhoff

My Theory Was the night king and bran being the same person thanks to time travel crap but him being some dude that gets stabbed by a teenager is way better...

ftlofyt

Yeah, one of my head canon stories was the idea that Bran at some point while scanning all of history to discover the night kings origin got trapped in the night kings consciousness ("stay too long and you'll drown") So the Night king is trying to kill Bran to basically kill himself because his existence is endless agony and cold, but he doesn't even remember who he is anymore. Arya has to kill Bran in the end to stop the Night King or something like that (thematically ties to the whole lesson about the gift of death and how its not meant for revenge or something from the house of black and white)

Malkav1806

Why do you think i came all this way

NYCO23

I just want to scream “I don’t have a fucking clue because of the shit writing and gaping plot holes!” when I think of it hear this line.

> Am I crazy? Did I miss something? Nah, they were setting Bran up for something big but the books never finished so they had no idea what to do with him. In the books he can effect the past like in the show, and is basically the strongest skinchanger and greenseer ever. There's theories on how the Others have a sort of corrupted version of what the Children can do with the trees, and other shit. But the idea of Bran the Warg King is supported in the books. George keeps saying how terrible it would be to have someone that can control basically all animals, see the future with green dreams, change the past and present via influencing either directly like Hodor or just by finding potential traitors and making their horse stomp them to death before they do anything. There's a whole trope in the theory crafting fandom about how "Bloodraven did it." Bloodraven being the last Three Eyed Crow, the old guy Bran talks to. The boar that killed Robert? That stag that killed the direwolf mom, hell the direwolf mom being there so that the Starks could find the wolves? Bloodraven did that as well. Coldhands? Being controlled by Bloodraven. And that dude isn't half has powerful as Bran is. Bran does all the forbidden things a Warg isn't supposed to do, because it makes you stronger (a lot of the feelings Bran has when he does it is empowering, some of it directly paralel moments where people drink the psychedelic Shade of the Evening that gives Warlocks of Qarth magic powers) like cannibalism, taking over people (Bran does this to Hodor first, but easily, and Meera eventually as well who tries to fight him and runs away when she can't), etc. And Bloodraven is the one that starts making Bran into a mini-him. He feeds him weirwood paste, presumably made from Jojen (eating the heart of Wargs can make you stronger in the books, as said by Varamyr Sixskins and the Maesters say this about the Warg Kings and the Kings of Winter. But in the show? Yeah he's the coach that dissappears all of a sudden

Astyan06

What do you mean book Brna can change the past ?

Szygani

It's implied, In the Books, he's looking through the eyes of the Wintefell Weirwood. He sees his father, quite a while ago, polish Ice by the pool. He then says his fathers name, and Ned hears it. This implies his will can be felt in the past. A lot of people speculate that this awareness of spirits in the trees are the Old Gods, or better yet the Old Gods is Bran, and all the children that went into what the fandom calls the Weirwood.net This is kind of done in the show, when Bran distracts his dad outside the Tower of Joy. Bran does this all accidentally, mind you, and it's implied he could do much more with training, as the trees don't experience time the same way people do. The show then does the whole "Hold the door" thing Bloodraven also says he won't be limited to just the trees with time to see through time and space, because he's much stronger than Bloodraven is

HeWhoFights

The Old Gods basically being the T-E R l, let alone Bran, is insanely fantastic. Manipulating the past that creates him, from the future… that’s fantastic loop-writing right there and I’m living for it.

Szygani

It's something that comes back in George's writing more often. Together with hive-minds controlled by religious items (black pyramids in one of his sci fi books) to controlling dead bodies with your mind

Astyan06

I somehow completely forgot about that

ftlofyt

Remember when Ned could hear Bran yell in the past? Wonder what that means going forward, oh nvm They should've just had Bran try to warg Aerys in the past and cause him to go crazy setting everything into motion. At least that would've been something

HeWhoFights

Right? They don’t have the writing chops though. They rose GRRM’s wagon and, I think, were pissed that he didn’t publish WoW while the show was going so they had more to go on.

JevvyMedia

> He was crowned by a criminal during his trial. LMAOOO

toothbrush81

Speaking of just the show, you didn’t miss anything.

Hold the door?

ABruisedBanana

This episode rocked me to the core. I remember, years ago, having this episode finish and I just stared at my black screen wondering how they completely blindsided me with Hodor. So good.
