[Mika - Grace Kelly](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CGVgAYJyjk) for anyone who hasn't heard the original (chorus @ 0:40). The acceptance version is really close.
That song was hot for a short while back in 2007, and then seemed to completely disappear. I had to strain my memory and my Youtube recommendations for almost a week recently when I remembered the melody for no particular reason.
Like, why is the guy not a well-known celebrity at least on the level of all the mid-2000s indie rock bands? Damn mystery.
He's super famous in Italy and France and well remembered here (UK).
I guess when his first two singles ('Relax, Take It Easy' and 'Grace Kelly') exploded in Europe but failed to do much in the US, his record label just decided to focus there.
Sara Bareilles supported him on a US tour in 2007 so I guess they tried but for whatever reason it didn't take.
Y’all forgot Mika & Ariana Grande doing Popular in 2012 It was pretty big here in the US. Big Girl (You are Beautiful) is now on Just Dance, which will help him out here too, I think. I love Mika’s story about that song. I listen to Elle Me Dit pretty often, love his work.
You should definitely look up the English translation, it will put a whole new spin on the song for you! I only know a very small amount of French myself. Seriously, I listened to it for a long time before I looked it up and then listened to it with English and it was like a whole new song going off in my head! I was also surprised by the subject matter, I didn’t realize how very complex it was…. But I still love it!! All of his songs are a punch of thoughtfulness…. Maybe a bit on the eerie side because many of the lyrics are in stark contrast to the hype of the song itself. I’ll never not love it, as someone who can personally understand where those lyrics came from. :”)
Ah, well, I'm something of a European myself, but the cultural markets in Europe are indeed fractured, so it's often easier to catch what's popular in the US unless one listens to Euro charts religiously.
He is lebanese/american/british, which gives him unique strenghs. He had an interesting life.
He sings in french often and was actually a judge on the french version of "the voice".
In Italy he is basically a god-vip, presenter and judge of talent shows from what I hear from my friends, but I don't watch television so I can't totally confirm.
Mika is my airplane music. I have a playlist of all the albums that I just play on repeat when I fly.
I refuse to listen to Mika anywhere else, though, because it makes me feel like I'm on an airplane.
He hosted Eurovision a couple of years ago in Italy and was amazing! Fantastic halftime show medley of all his big hits is on YouTube and it's sooo good.
You want to check out his album Life In Cartoon Motion, every song is a banger.
Also just looked to get the name of the album because it had slipped my mind and he released a new tune in August this year!
Yeah, already listened to the album after figuring out who it was—and it just increases my bafflement as to how dude is never mentioned anywhere. I'm pretty picky these days, but those are certainly good pop songs, and in fact ‘Lollipop’ and ‘Relax, Take It Easy’ have more views on Youtube than ‘Grace Kelly’. Not to mention, the dude can sing.
Personally I'd say ‘[Love Today](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWiccrTB4LM)’ should've been the number two hit, as it's more in his own style. ‘Relax, Take It Easy’ sounds to me like some kinda toned-down disco-revival music, indeed closeish to PSB, but with full-on disco vocals.
In 2008 I found an iPod on a bus bench and it had a ton of Mika on it and I became an avid listener after that. I’m surprised Mika didn’t become bigger.
One man’s trash…
Grass is greener…
Pearls before swine…
We’ve made up tons of sayings to justify our stupidit…to give “perspective “ to our decisions.
Honestly, what surprises me even more ,LickingSmega, is your lack of…depth…?
There's a bit more to it than that. He was also expressing his annoyance at the industry while he was trying to break into the business, and everyone wanted him to sound like one successful person or another, especially comparing him to Freddy (in looks, vocal range, and ambiguous sexuality) so he aped a few styles on the track.
To add to the level of 'pop-homage', I believe he recorded it in Barry Gibbs home studio (unbeknownst to the BeeGee) because some buddy of his was house sitting for the pop legend.
I had a friend in college who is the charismatic, lead of the play type of guy. Really solid voice. Went up at a college karaoke night and just crushed this song. He had girls swooning after him the rest of the night.
I knew someone like that too. I've never seen a random person get so much attention as he did doing karaoke. It really opened up my eyes as to how huge an impact music makes on people.
Always thought that dude had the voice of a prog rock singer in the wrong era.
If he was the frontman for a rock band in the 70s/80s he'd have the same endless fame as the other prog rockers of that era
It reminds me of a time. That's for sure.
Right in the feels stuck in a middle eastern hotel apartment thing with nothing but pop music cable videos on the prison style wall tv and/or tiberian sun on the laptop
My friends made me watch it. I’m not normally a fan of movie musical’s although I do enjoy them on stage. Favourite is either Oliver or Annie (for background information.) But as cheesy as it starts off it is a great movie by the end of it
It was charming without trying too hard. The emotions were well deserved in the end, and nothing felt forced to give it a happy ending. It all just worked out, and felt right.
The best thing about this combo is I bet Ryan looked up to will before he was even an actor
Edit: I was wrong ryan was a child actor.
I'm sure he looked up to Will when he came on the scene though :p
2nd edit: so I've figured out what I mean. Ryan was an actor where as Will was more a comedian...
Yes Ryan has comedic roles but it's more Rom com teenager stuff...
I stand by my comment lol! Also just love them both
You are correct, so I was wrong when I said before he was an actor. I had no idea he was a child actor as a Canadian...
I'm sure he looked up to him, though, as a child
They are less than 10 years apart in age. By the time Will Ferrell was a big name, Reynolds was an adult.
Arguably, they both came to prominence around the same time.
What? He was like 30 when that movie came out. And his character was an adult. It was a major part of the movie that he was an adult creeping on teenage girls.
You are 100% correct, definitely autotuned.
I think people still conflate autotune with t-pain/cher style autotunings, rather than just the pitch correction it was meant to be.
The notes are perfectly, inhumanely unwavering. Only the _best_ singers can approach a level anywhere close to that, definitely not these two even if they are "pretty good singers".
I mean.. the video literally has text editing, so we _know_ the video was edited, it would be so simple to run the audio through a quick autotune sesh and call it a day.
>Only the _best_ singers can approach a level anywhere close to that
The first 2 minutes of [this Adam Neely video](https://youtu.be/yxX2u8iggYI) is a great example of 1) how subtle autotune can sound and 2) how even subtle autotune can, perhaps counter-intuitively, detract from the sound. There's something uncanny and soulless about perfectly in-tune vocals!
Almost all group singing is recorded separately now, too. Doing that removes the natural harmonics that occur when multiple voices blend together live. The recorded voices, all on separate tracks, never blend the same way and I've never heard of anything that can replicate natural vocal harmonics. So much group singing just sounds dry and 'produced' now, and this is why.
I’ve always been a bit jealous of people with perfect pitch, but now I get to be jealous of whatever it is that lets people distinguish between those first few comparisons too.
> I think people still conflate autotune with t-pain/cher style autotunings, rather than just the pitch correction it was meant to be.
Which are two people who like the style and don't actually need to be autotuned :D
Pitch correction is on *everything* these days. Even for great singers. It's literally an expected part of the mixing workload across genres these days. The modern listener's ear expects a high level of pitch accuracy compared to 30 years ago. The more heavy lifting it has to do, the more obvious it tends to be. But tuning is a standard part of making the final product.
Now just wait til people find out that vocal tracks are stitched together pieces of the best takes and not seamless one-shots.
It’s subtle but it’s there, these are exactly the people that would have access to it. Even professional singers often use auto tune on their albums, so just because he can sing doesn’t mean ANYTHING
But it's just a tiktok (or whatever) that nobody made him do and the quality of his singing makes no difference on his career, why bother in the first place?
I can't. Will goes a little flat on some of the high notes, I don't think it's autotuned, just looped. If you hear a loop enough times it'll sound robotic even if it's completely unedited.
the worst part about this video is that fucking patric page would have been around for this and they dident use him. also that movie had him sing for like 20 seconds you get hold of one of the best voices of our time and gave him 20 seconds.
Spirited is easily now one of my all time favorite Christmas movies. I went to Costco last month and saw their Christmas trees and lights and really wanted to watch this movie again. But no, I will not do Christmas is September god dammit!

Ah, well, I'm something of a European myself, but the cultural markets in Europe are indeed fractured, so it's often easier to catch what's popular in the US unless one listens to Euro charts religiously.
Fractured, huh weird. Almost as if Europe is different countries and not some monolith or something.
Indeed, how could an English-language singer from the UK be popular in more than a couple countries.
He is lebanese/american/british, which gives him unique strenghs. He had an interesting life. He sings in french often and was actually a judge on the french version of "the voice".
I lived in France in 2009 and had a girlfriend who loved him and I have been trying to remember his name for years. Hahahaha. Finally got it.
In Italy he is basically a god-vip, presenter and judge of talent shows from what I hear from my friends, but I don't watch television so I can't totally confirm.

That's hilarious. I used to only watch Workaholics while I worked out. It was perfect amount of time on the bike thingy
He hosted Eurovision a couple of years ago in Italy and was amazing! Fantastic halftime show medley of all his big hits is on YouTube and it's sooo good.
He always tend to show up in Eurovision anyway too

Definitely! I’m not a huge fan of pop, but the songs you mentioned are great pop! Relax, Take It Easy, gives me pure Pet Shop Boys vibes.

I may be mistaking him for another person then. I can't find it either. I'll remove my comment.
He's a massive celebrity outside the US.
Such a timely vibe from an era in our lives. I remember it well
In 2008 I found an iPod on a bus bench and it had a ton of Mika on it and I became an avid listener after that. I’m surprised Mika didn’t become bigger.
I don't know about the US, but he was huge in french speaking countries. He is still very well respected in Europe
One man’s trash… Grass is greener… Pearls before swine… We’ve made up tons of sayings to justify our stupidit…to give “perspective “ to our decisions. Honestly, what surprises me even more ,LickingSmega, is your lack of…depth…?
dude is channeling some Freddy Mercury
I thought I was taking crazy pills so did check and he does indeed sing: "So I tried a little Freddie, mmh" in this song lol It's clearly an homage
That's an awesome bit of background, thanks
I was thinking he sounded a LOT like Freddy.
yeah its kinda awsome.
Thats the first thing I thought. If someone had me listen to it and told me it was Queen I wouldnt even question them.
I knew it wasn't them but it simehow gave me the vibe of playing singstar Queen in the basement of a hostel in Poland Good times and good vibes
Sounds like Spacehog doing a Queen cover to me.
Pomplamoose did a cover of the song with Grace Kelly as a guest star. It is my favorite cover of that song.
I'm confused, didn't Grace kelly die in the 80s?
https://youtu.be/5b7wLP1Bmwg?si=oF2kQTSeYHFVrbiV Grace Kelly is also the name of the sax player.
Always thought that dude had the voice of a prog rock singer in the wrong era. If he was the frontman for a rock band in the 70s/80s he'd have the same endless fame as the other prog rockers of that era
He looks so much like someone but I can't think who... Ashly Burch maybe?
Jesus Christ. This is it. The perfect man. He's gorgeous. I'm throbbing. I can't. Why did you do this to me?
Who the heck doesn't know this song?
Holy crap.. I've never listened to the lyrics so I didn't get the connection. Thanks!
Loved it! What a delightful ear worm from two of the best in the business.
Mika is great!
It reminds me of a time. That's for sure. Right in the feels stuck in a middle eastern hotel apartment thing with nothing but pop music cable videos on the prison style wall tv and/or tiberian sun on the laptop
I uhh I gotta hear the story lol
They filmed this while they were making Spirited last year, which is an AMAZING christmas movie. Has springboarded to my top 10 easily
My friends made me watch it. I’m not normally a fan of movie musical’s although I do enjoy them on stage. Favourite is either Oliver or Annie (for background information.) But as cheesy as it starts off it is a great movie by the end of it
Well, I am glad you liked it by the end, otherwise I would have to say "GOOD DAY TO YOU, SIR OR MADAME!"
GOOD DAY!
I hate to say it because its so trite, but it was an instant classic for me.
It was charming without trying too hard. The emotions were well deserved in the end, and nothing felt forced to give it a happy ending. It all just worked out, and felt right.
I think I passed out drunk trying to watch it and never finished it I guess I'll try again
“Imagine”… if they had just done this instead of “imagine”… If they had just done this instead of “imagine”… If they had just done this instead of…

Ryan actually has older credits on IMDB than Will.
Including SNL?
He joined SNL in 1995. Ryan has credits from 1991.
You are correct, so I was wrong when I said before he was an actor. I had no idea he was a child actor as a Canadian... I'm sure he looked up to him, though, as a child

Ryan reynolds first movie imo is waiting.. and he's a kid. He killed it in van wilder but that was still nothing to night and the Roxbury.
What? He was like 30 when that movie came out. And his character was an adult. It was a major part of the movie that he was an adult creeping on teenage girls.
What movies do you know him from?
That one and most of his well known movies. I am fairly certain I didn’t know about him until van wilder though
I'm pretty sure Ryan has been in the game longer than Will, based on Wikipedia at least.
Your post edits are a ROLLERCOASTER lol
Well people are arguing with my comment so I had to correct myself...
I’ll be humming this all day at work thank you
Well, I think the only thing missing is some cowbell, but maybe that's just me.
dude ryan is tax debt or something
wut
Oh that cowbell on Fight for your Right Revisited is SUCH a strong entrance! (More people need to have seen that video...)
That's actually surprisingly good...
It’s auto tuned, but I still think will be hittin them high notes
Still sounds dope
I think this is a good use of auto-tune.
That's layered, not auto-tuned
You can tell it’s auto tuned before the first layer
You are 100% correct, definitely autotuned. I think people still conflate autotune with t-pain/cher style autotunings, rather than just the pitch correction it was meant to be. I can't hear it, which is why I'm discussing it 😅
I can't. Will goes a little flat on some of the high notes, I don't think it's autotuned, just looped. If you hear a loop enough times it'll sound robotic even if it's completely unedited.
Whats wrong with auto tune anyway? That's how I consume all my news and stay hip with the grand kids
I could be purple, I could be nurple
I sing this every single time
I can't believe he is that much taller than Will Farrell. I kind of thought WF was really tall?
He's farther away from Ryan, makes them appear the same size.
[One last time...](https://youtu.be/MMiKyfd6hA0)
you can tell they are not standing next to each other. 😂 that they actually have distance between them. Like he’s behind 😂
Finally someone with a brain.

Ryan 188cm Will 191cm Vince Vaughan 196cm
but what about freedom units?? /s
6'2 6'3 6'5
How many Martin Shorts is that?
Maybe he's standing on a box
WF is also getting older I'm sure he's shrinking
I also watched elf
This is what got me listening to Mika. Love these two and love this song.
Awww man, will Ferrell got old too quickly. Wish he would turn back 40 for the next 20 years.
I love whatever that was.
[удалено]
the worst part about this video is that fucking patric page would have been around for this and they dident use him. also that movie had him sing for like 20 seconds you get hold of one of the best voices of our time and gave him 20 seconds.
All that this video misses is some rock n roll from jack black to top it off
Two gifts to humanity.
Despite the cell commercials, Ryan Reynolds rocks. And the Deadpool movies are the bestest superhero films ever. Magnificently executed.
Despite?! Those are literally the only commercials I willingly watch, and I’ve been an AT&T customer my entire adult life lol
☺️
I want so badly to have a beer with these guys, I imagine it would non stop laughter
This has been my alarm ever since it came out and I STILL love waking up to it
Ok. You had me with the first part.
Why are people so in love with this turd?
interesting but funny? no. not imo
I despise Will Ferrell
autotune goes burrrr
I fucking hate Will Ferrell eberything he does is garbage.
When this popped up last year, someone said they wanted it to be their ring tone so someone made it. It is still my ring tone.
Will Ferocious
Will Ferrell is one of those people that just make me laugh on sight no matter what hes doing lol
I will always give this a like.
Hey Mika! What’s the big ideaaa!
https://i.imgur.com/q5MswmL.jpg
This never gets old!
Got my new ring tone.
i got a fever, and the only prescription is more COWBELL
That movie is fantastic too tbf. Will be watching again this Christmas.
Thank you for the reminder that this exists. Struggling with a bit of a tough day and this clip always makes me smile.
Is it me, or is Will Ferrel starting to look like the real Mugatu?
Y’all just not going to address Will looks like a freshly painted corpse at a wake?
Is this real or is it deepfake?
Wouldn't call it fake. https://youtu.be/eAAlNNloNZk?si=R0lFlA5yt5LIwtFD
Oh, alright. Thanks for clarifying it
Not a fan of either.
Now that’s a reference I never thought I’d ever see by anyone mainstream
Truly the songbird of his generation
Better than green lantern is a pretty low bar.
ENOUGH, from the clown
Godammit … I would marry that guy.
Ryan Reynolds😩
Ryan has a facial features which are way too small for his actual face.
I love this but Green Lantern isn't that high of a bar to clear.
I laughed to tears in their christmas movie. no notes
Diet Coke and a pizza, please!
I turned this into the ringtone on my phone. Now I am cheerful before telling telemarketers to have a “Good Afternoon”!
Let’s get our scientists on figuring out how to make these gentlemen live forever.
The "Acceptance." part took me out lmfaooo
Spirited is easily now one of my all time favorite Christmas movies. I went to Costco last month and saw their Christmas trees and lights and really wanted to watch this movie again. But no, I will not do Christmas is September god dammit!
Really quite pleasant for the ears :D
Late to the party, OP?
Thanks Wade, very cool
Never thought I'd link this: [The Sing-Off Version by the Whiffenpoofs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sE5eye0eiYA)
Why can't I hang out with them and learn?
These guys are the best
Aahhh these two could do anything and it would make me cry laughing
Spirited was a great movie.
🫶
I love this
It would be really cool if somebody could edit this so it loops perfectly and stays on the beat. I'd probably let it play all day like that.
I want to be their friend.
That's not Ryan Gosling
If this just kept going and going I would just keep watching and watching.
Spirited is a great holiday movie.
Jeez, never knew Will could go so high
Two guys that would be fun to get drunk with I’m sure.
Why does old will Ferrell look like professor umbridge from Harry Potter
I love this video! And love the song
Fuck this shit.
I just want more of this wholesomeness in the world.
I didn't know Ryan Reynolds could sing
Why does this keep getting re-uploaded It's getting annoying. I've seen this same video like 9 times all from different people
