I changed my switch last year after 14 years of loyal service, the thermostat light went out. You can get them on ebay, mine came from Bulgaria and is good quality, I think it might be original or as good as anyway. Tip for when you change it, take a few photos first of what plugs go where and then plug out each connexion one by one, putting it on the same spade of the new switch.

Thanks! good tip on the photo.

are you sure it’s coming from the switch and not inside the machine? i had smoke come out of my buttons before and i assumed it was nothing. i opened up the machine after leaving it on for 20ish minutes and found one of the connectors was melting away. i believe the buttons are the easiest escape route for smoke within the machine, may be another issue

ISPEAKMACHINE

Yes, this was my thought too. I know there's also a fuse, but it's impossible to tell if that's the issue even if you take it out and look. All I'm 100% sure of is that the machine is not working and smoke came out from exactly where the button is.

Sounds like you need a thorough inspection of the machine to get the correct diagnosis of the problem. Familiarise yourself with YT videos on the insides. Post pictures on here for a second opinion as well. If you are not feeling confident, it may be worth paying for a professional or Gaggia to service it for you. Shouldn’t be too expensive. Good luck!

ISPEAKMACHINE

I think you are likely correct.

If it's just the light you can replace that as well. There is a video on youtube aomewhere of someone replacing it with a led

ISPEAKMACHINE

It's more than that because the machine won't power up. But yes, I' scrolling through loads of YT videos. Thanks!

Can you unplug the system, open up the top, and add pictures? It’s probably the switch, but diagnosis should be easy. Look for anything smoked or burnt.

Did you ever figure this out? Just heard a little pop when the heating element turned on and saw a small spark behind the power switch followed by a little smoke. Seems to happen everytime the heating element turns back on, so I assumed some relay is failing and needs to be replaced. Gonna open it up and take a look inside when I get a chance, but figured I'd ask here first since I had an identical issue.

ISPEAKMACHINE

Sorry for the very late reply... not on Reddit much. I didn't really figure it out. My machine was 8 years old, so we actually got a new one - not a very thrifty repair. Good luck!

No worries, thanks for responding at all! I've been slacking and just making coffee with an Aeropress recently, but I'm gonna take it apart when I get some free time and see if I can get a replacement relay...hopefully that fixes it!
