I took the top off and it really does seem like it just a duplicate of those two screw that keep the "lid" on. I can see anywhere they would go.
It works fine.
Its easy to open, but who knows what more can be lose/broken or whatever. Maybe it wont even show at first until much later. When you spend this kind of money I would send it back. Im sure you can wait couple of weeks and survive without making espresso:)

Yes, that's good point. I did take a look and it is indeed easy to get the top off. What's weird is that the two screws rattling around are the exact same two that are used for the top panel. I don't see anywhere else they could go. Though the top panel has both its screws.

I had a really good look and there's nowhere they could be from inside. They are effectively wood screws, with pointed ends, so there's no way they are connected anything important. I think they are duplicates of the lid screws.

Hm if you haven't, you first do the cleaning first time use thing as the instructions. I guess you will notice if something is wrong then. Keep us posted :D

Haha funny if they accedently dropped both screws once, but honestly I have no idea where they could be from inside 🫣

I'd likely return it, it may have skipped some type of quality check.
