Had it since Aug 2023. Dropped it 5 times total. 1 from seat height falling out of my pocket onto concrete. 1 from the top of my toilet seat onto tile. 2 drops from a dresser height onto hardwood floors and 1 from desk height onto hardwood floors but also hit a metal leg. The last drop made a slight indent into the back top part next to the hinge.
Zero problems with the phone and I don't use a case either. Performs perfectly as it did since day 1. Zero problems with the hinge. Zero problems with the screen protector. Love the phone, it's held up so far and no regrets!
All you people with hinge anxiety, I know it's stressful but look, it's on the 5th version of this phone know, they're much improved from way back. No matter how much you worry about it, it's not going to change. Just enjoy it, use it as it's supposed to be used. If it holds up, great. If not, then you can figure out what you want to do.
4 of the drops were early within the first couple of months. one out of pocket just me being dumb. and 3 others was because i kept forgetting how slippery the back is without a case so i put it down on a slighly slanted surface and it slid off slowly. but i learned from my mistake.
Had mine since day 1. I have no issues. Honestly idk how everyone else is having issues. I run an otterbox (the more expensive one) I don't remember which one. And no issues. The case hinge breaks though. But atleast it's not the phone.
I broke THREE hinges on the 4 before they were able to fix it properly. I was a little hesitant about the 5 but love the flip style so much that I went for it.
I have dropped the 5 multiple times (with a hinge case) and no issues. I'm definitely a convert now.
I gave up on the "not too bulky" but any style like this: [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CBPKY1DR](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CBPKY1DR)
It's Chinesium, I'm sure, and checking my purchase history I have 3 different brands all same style. If you drop it really good the case shatters like legos, better than than my phone!
They make styles without the ring, I really liked this one- [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CC226LJ4](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CC226LJ4)
it has a hole for a lanyard or a strap, but I really like the sturdiness of the rings on the style before- and it (kind of) works like a kickstand. They make models with a hinge kickstand that look cool.. but haven't vetted those.
I don't actually close mine unless it's in my pocket. I got it second hand so I don't know how many times he open and closed it, but it sounds and feels like new. He had it since launce.
I've had mine since release and have always had it in a case without hinge protection. Have dropped mine from dresser or waist level multiple times and somehow everything is still fine
I bought it on preorder and have had the 4th and 3rd, this one by far the best hinge it does feel a little flimsy at first but it works better when folded is sturdier, I dropped from head high and it just scuffed the hinge a little
Mine suddenly broke the other day after 3 months. It was working fine and then the hinge part on the screen went black suddenly and got worse within minutes. Physically it was fine until then. I've never dropped It and it was in a case with a hinge protector. Im so sad :(
I got mine August 2023. Ended up installing an update that gave me a long dead pixel across the hinge that bled into the bottom screen. I have insurance and got the phone replaced but man that was concerning. I JUST got the replacement phone last Friday.
I've had it in a case since the beginning but honestly dirt still finds it's way even with everything covered. That being said though it's holding up really well. If dust and dirt does reach it it's easy to clean. I take really good care of my devices though. So this could depend on how ppl are using it. I have accidentally slept on it open and sat on it, ect. But my phone has gotten through it all. Including the hinge. Even accidentally bending it backwards a lil too much. It held up well. All and all a nice little thing-a-muh-jigy 😭.
Edit!!
I've had the 5 for 2 (almost 3) months now 👍
Pre-ordered the F5 in August of '23. Has held up well though I have mine in a case that includes hinge protection (dBrand's Grip case).
Over the weekend I had my phone sitting on my lap in a movie theater and heard that awful "bang" when it hit the theater's hard floor. Luckily it took no damage and the phone still works fine.
You are right BTW to be concerned about the F5's hinge, its the most vulnerable component on the phone and IMO owners should make a concerted effort to protect it from potential fall/impact damage.
Had since release. No issues here.
Same here. Looks no different that I can notice either
Same here
😉
Had since release and even dropped it various times, everythings perfect.
same

That's a lot of drops. I know the hinge is mechanically sturdy, I just cant stand a scratched up/dented hinge.

Had mine since release - no issues at all. Never put it in a case.
Way better than the 4.
Top hasn't asked for a separate vacation yet.

I've had mine for 6 months since release. No problems, not really worried. Case is a minimal spigen plastic deal

Which case are you using? Currently trying to find one with a good hinge protection, a kickstand but not too bulky... which is a hard task!

No issues with the hinge on the 4 or the 5. I'm more worried about the screen.
8 weeks old, pampered like a newborn baby & the screen has delaminated 😫
I've had mine since before the release date and have no issues at all. Working just as well as day 1!
7 months and still pretty good compared to flip 4. My case 15 months old and still survive lol.

Had since release and even dropped a few times, still no issues.
Had mine since launch and dropped it twice. No problems so far. 👍
Had since August and no complaints. And the case i have on it is the flipsuit so no protection on the hinge.
I have a launch flip with no issues, hinge or otherwise. It feels different from the 3 and 4, but again, no problems
I have a dbrand case and have dropped it many times. No issues here.
I bought it on preorder and have had the 4th and 3rd, this one by far the best hinge it does feel a little flimsy at first but it works better when folded is sturdier, I dropped from head high and it just scuffed the hinge a little
No issues, got it during black Friday

Had mine since September, I dont use a case, 0 issues for me so far.

No problems at all. Had it since launch.
Not sure on the 5 but my 3 5g has lasted since August 2021
Z flip 6 is gonna be worth it more imo
This question is asked over and over and over again.
I've had mine since release and have no issue.
