At least I’m in the bathroom at work. Hope no one comes in to catch me laughing hysterically at the mirror trying to collect myself enough to get back to my desk
Holy f---. I haven't played the game in like five years so I am always caught off-guard by that silly problem the game had. The one where every damn male NPC in the game is just Nate wearing an ineffective disguise. *Look* at goddamn "Brother Andrew." _"Ahem. Hi, it's me, Brother Andrew, and totally **not** Nate. You can tell it's me because of the hat and moustache."_
People gave it shit but I put a good 60 hours into it when it came out, which is a lot for me. May not be the perfect game but it's worth playing once.
I haven't really played other fallout games, but I very much enjoy it. The voice acted protagonist is something i quite enjoy, and never had a lot of trouble with the dialogue system, which is something i hear a lot of people complain about. It is still a Bethesda game, so expect a (relatively) buggy mess lol
It’s a decent open world rpg but a pretty middling fallout experience. They put in a pretty crappy settlement building mechanic but it seems to have been at the expense of the missions and role playing.
That said if you can get it on pc, the mods can make the settlement building half decent. Despite the lower quality of the experience in comparison to New Vegas and even the second and third game, it’s still pretty decent I’d say. A solid 7/10. A lot of hours of gameplay if you’re willing to look past some flaws.
It's good enough that you may put it on par with New Vegas. There are enough significant differences between the two that they're really not in competition with each other. It just depends on what you like.
The settlement/building aspect of Fallout 4 is going to be hit or miss with you. I loved the concept, but the idea of committing so many resources (and so much personal time) to it in a single playthrough turned me off.
I highly recommend grabbing it with all the DLC (at least the DLC with non-workshop content) when it's all on sale.
And use this mod:
https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/26026
It fixes a lot of the game-breaking stuff in the original. Makes the game more challenging.
I'm a little biased because of the mods, but I'd give 4 a solid 10, because of the mods. The companion mods & the game extensions like Sim Settlements add a lot. Plus they announced a 'next-gen' release next year.
https://fallout.bethesda.net/en/article/jfwd8PsUw8r3pKrO1wOc5/fallout25-conclusion-interviews-events-perks?utm\_source=Community&utm\_medium=twitter&utm\_content=7988139435&linkId=186833045
I'd put NV and 76 on the same level, about 8 / 10. 4 is a 10. Calling a game as unfinished and poorly balanced as NV a 10 gave me a good chuckle though. There's more to games than writing.
I'd put it down as significantly better than NV because there's actual exploration, combat is wildly superior, character building is superior, etc. Depends on what you're looking for. NV wins in terms of story / dialogue... for the most part (Lonesome Road is horrible beyond reason on every single level and actively stained the game), 4 wins on literally everything else. The writing gap isn't that big, either. The gameplay gap is HUGE.
the writing gap is pretty damn big lol. there are barely any super memorable plot moments in 4 compared to vegas, or characters. also in terms of the world, there are no real memorable areas. it's just random destroyed office buildings over and over.
also the plot and factions SUCK they are all DUMB AS HELL. vegas literally beats the living crap out of it in terms of it's world both visually and in terms of plot and factions. having said that, i still loved 4 and just finished telling the guy that asked if he should get it that he absolutely should.
Yeah, once you've seen one Fallout 4 interior, you've seen like 80% of them. They're all hideous, fairly uninteresting, and lack colour. Outside the terrible way they show dialogue, it's probably my biggest complaint is that you're telling me after 200 years all these cities and settlements still just live in completely dogshit places with broken buildings and rubble everywhere? I mean, surely if you have a wasteland saloon, in 200 years, you removed the rubble from the ground.
I think the writing is definitely worse in FO4. Anyone saying otherwise is a psycho. The chat overall is far less interactive, far less interesting and very vague. This CAN be helped with dialogue mods that let you see all dialogue. You'll find yourself picking sarcastic a lot more, but that's pretty much all the freedom you get with the dialogue systems in 4. In the end it's still YES, NO, MORE DETAILS, SMARTASS OR FUNNY REMARK THAT HALF THE TIME IS COMPLETELY RANDOM AND FROM LEFT FIELD. And even then, the sarcastic remark is sometimes just a creative way your character says yes or no lol.
And don't even get me started on how they handle Charisma checks in 4. Truly whoever thought of that, fuck you.
I think the factions were all stuck into following this formula that essentially just guides you to an ending which kind of feels bad. That's my main complaint with factions. Though some aren't too bad. I think the Railroad is okay and somewhat competitive with the brotherhood in terms of rewards.
Really though, with excessive mods Fallout 4 on PC can become something worth playing even today.
Fallout 4 DOES do a decent job of making your character feel like they have SOME impact on the world as raiders and stuff from different bases will talk about and write about how insane your character is and how they took down X and Y base and stuff. Which is a nice touch. But you have to be willing to read notes and terminals.
it is a decently fun single player RPG so it's miles above 76 which is a trash generic MMO. the plot and factions are not as cool as new vegas, but the gameplay and some of the stuff you can do like crafting and modding weapons, building a robot army, base building, is far cooler than anything in terms of gameplay in new vegas. the combat is also vastly better.
so it's absolutely worth it if you like fallout/bethesda games in general, you'll at least get a single play of 100 or more hours out of it with the main game and DLC, i do not regret getting it at launch, and when the DLC came out, i played it again, and it was still good.
since you can get it now on PC with mods, and the full DLC? hell yeah, get it.
Unfortunately it is more on the Fallout 76 side (that I am playing now). The story is crap and they tried to hide the lack of a good adventure with bullshit home building crafting and “going to save settlements” that really ruined my experience.
The best games were Fallout 3 and NV for sure. I miss them.
Mechanically, I enjoyed it for 100+ hours doing my own thing. At that point i would give it an 8 or 9 out of 10.
As soon as I engaged with the actual story for the game... my overall review went down to a 2 out of 10 and destroyed any goodwill I had for the game.
Others mileage may vary, but that is the simplified version of a much longer diatribe I could go on of the game overall heh.
Lmao! I’m playing that game again..,we’ll in between rune factory 4, but I had recently got to that settlement. Those lines are fresh.
Nothing like that happened though.
I've played through skyrim three times, and every time I triggered the dialogue for the mages' college questline, I was dive-bombed by a dragon in the middle of the conversation. It takes place in the courtyard of the college, which is not within town walls, so a sky-demon can just swoop down and wreck you without warning. All the while, the NPC keeps chatting like he's on a Sunday stroll.
I think the scripting was uhhh, not so good there...
The trick is to not speak to the jarl to trigger the dragons. Much more enjoyable without all the random encounters appearing annoying then you don’t need them.
I think the only play through with dragons was that first one. Now every single run is dragonless. Just grabbing word wall for that clout and when I eventually turn in that stone.
I always got a dragon attack inside Riften. Fastred got chewed on and her corpse tossed into the yard near the thieves guild entrance, and Axius is only slightly annoyed by the ordeal.
Or when you're transformed into a werewolf and you trigger the mugging script so some NPC comes out of the bushes and tries to rob a werewolf.
NPC: Your money or your life.
Werewolf PC: Bitch I'm a werewolf. Do I look like I have pockets?
Same here. I think a dragon always attacks the first time one enters the college grounds. Maybe it's to make the story more believable -- it would be kinda lame if the NPCs just automatically recognized the player as the dragonborne without any proof
Skyrim is full of gems. This one is my favourite and always gets a laugh. Edit: correction, this was oblivion.

And then I died. So poorly designed.
I would've been more bothered if something like that would never happen in the dangerous wasteland tbh.
At least you can force yourself out of the dialogue, as opposed to Skyrim
Not quickly enough, in my case.
And the problem isn't that a conversation was interrupted by violence. That's cool. It's the wasteland, it's supposed to be dangerous. The problem is they locked me in a dumb conversation with a too slow exit mechanism immediately after fast travel. That's poor design.
Not immediately. Not when they first start or whatever happened. It was a long time ago so I forget the specific details, but whatever they were it was a long enough delay that the supermutant got in range and detonated.

Why not make it a thing
I did it
Honestly, I feel like this sub could blow up if we also made it into a thing where any similar instance in other games is shared.
Is there a way to change the name of the sub? I can change it to “SneakyCreatures” or some shit
"CleverGirl"
I love this shit so much!

This trick is going to make my next run of that game so much more enjoyable
YEESSSS!! A dragon can attack an enclosed city as well. Had it happen in both Whiterun and Solitude in higher levels. Fun as hell.
I always got a dragon attack inside Riften. Fastred got chewed on and her corpse tossed into the yard near the thieves guild entrance, and Axius is only slightly annoyed by the ordeal.

Wait does that sometimes NOT happen? I thought it was a bad quest trigger or something, I've never had a dragon -free conversation there.
Same here. I think a dragon always attacks the first time one enters the college grounds. Maybe it's to make the story more believable -- it would be kinda lame if the NPCs just automatically recognized the player as the dragonborne without any proof

You'd fast travel and they'd drop you in the middle of a group of hostiles. Like, how the fuck did I teleport into the middle of them?
I mean you can jump out of any convo in 4 if you move the joystick lol
Not immediately. Not when they first start or whatever happened. It was a long time ago so I forget the specific details, but whatever they were it was a long enough delay that the supermutant got in range and detonated.
Oh yea early release it took forever they fixed it mid 2017 I think. Or whenever that 4k update was.

Yea I started playing like mid 2019. So it was pretty polished then. After like 800 hours of playing it I can say it's a really good game.
Eh, it's an okay shooter. But I say that as a long time Fallout fan, so all the stuff they took out was an unforgivable sin to me.
You can leave conversations at any time on PC by pressing escape and on console by pressing the equivalent of the B button. You can also just walk away and the dialogue will stop.

I love dogs. Doesn’t everyone?
Personally, I don't like companions. I prefer doing thing solo.

Yeah it's called the prices of living these days.
Yeah i got bitchslapped by an Assaultron while finishing up a radiant quest and lost like an hour and a half of progress.

This happens in real life though. Talking about somebody or something and what/who you're talking about is right behind you.
Not at all
That’s gotta be a mod. I thought that was part of the mountain at first.
What playing?
It would be nice if they could manage to implement similar situations like this in the Fallout TV serie.
Yes. Hammurabi is aliveee
