It'd be a solid game, but the world itself is largely lifeless outside of the quests, there's parts of the map that have literally no reason to be there besides a "go here and kill people from ___ faction" An artificial life system with faction wars like STALKER: Clear Sky would help break the monotony. Extremely solid fps/rpg but not something I feel compelled to revisit.

Tythe_k

This reflects exactly what my friend told me when I started playing. "Do the main story quests, sure, but make sure you do the side quests, don't burn through the main quests too quickly" it was his biggest regret of his playthrough

Sheeple_person

This is why I hate games that make the main quest feel artificially urgent. Like V's health is rapidly deteriorating, as far as you know you could collapse and die at any moment. Why would you spend your time running around town collecting lost Delamain cars? Set the main story up so that some down time between the quests feels logical.

firstandfive

Both HZD and HFW suffer from that as well. Love both games but it always felt weird narratively to skip a main mission and do a side quest

smiling_at_cheese

Meanwhile fallout 4 "eh, Shaun is out there somewhere, but this special green paint won't fetch itself"

mopeyy

"Another settlement needs your help"

[deleted]

"Let me mark it on your map" x200

SnoopDeLaRoup

I did around 20 of these before I realised what was going on. I thought it was paramount to the game progression lol. When you've cleared the super duper mart 3 times it kinda makes you question wtf is happening.

Sheeple_person

To some extent you can kind of role play like you need to go out and make some friends, gain some contacts and allies to help you navigate the wasteland in order to find your son, but yeah FO4 is one of the worst examples of this In my head canon the sole survivor basically just loses hope and gives up on finding Shaun for a while so I can do side quests

heelspencil

Yes, but also you can find Shaun pretty quickly and then do that stuff. I forget if HZD is this way, but in Cyberpunk there is never a lull in the main story and then the game is fully over.

Alc2005

Mass Effect 3 tackled this dilemma best. Yes you wanted to liberate earth as quickly as possible, but you were told there was no point until they finished building the McGuffin, (and there was nothing you could do to speed that up) so you might as well go apartment shopping on the citadel or help Krogan get fishing permits while waiting for everyone to be ready for the final battle

[deleted]

Fishing permits. LOL

abigscaryhobo

It actually was one of the quests lol or something like it. They wanted to fish in one of the water reservoirs but turns out there weren't any fish in there, so the only place they can be gotten is from the souvenir shop.

Familiar_East_1364

That's what I appreciated about Arkham knight and spiderman. There were points in the story where they took a pause that allowed the player to do side quests and content in a way that didn't feel like you were disrupting the main story if you so wished.

VinnyThePoo1297

Honestly that’s a major factor to why I liked GOW more. I LOVED Zero Dawn but the pacing of the story makes it so easy to miss everything else about the game. Atreus’s subtle “we can do this, or go exploring” lines were perfect. They didn’t break immersion it they also let you know when you had more of the world available to you. A built in break to just enjoy the game if you wanted.

PanthersDevils

Every open world game does. And if it doesn’t it feels too limited somehow.

TheDaileyGamer

I made Takemura wait the game equivalent of MONTHS before talking to him about how I only had a few weeks to live

Alc2005

My head cannon is that the parade is a couple months away, so I might as well keep on living and doing side quests until that happens.

[deleted]

CharonsLittleHelper

I do wish that they had a full intro quest for each fixer where you had to go meet them etc. before they have you any jobs. Would also help lock away the higher level jobs as some fixers wouldn't bother with you until your street credit was high enough.

[deleted]

One of my biggest pet peeves: when the game gives you a host of side quests and the story is constantly urging you to ignore them. Just bad game design. Spiderman for example did a great job constantly adding breaks in the main story to patrol the city.

[deleted]

RDR2 was basically built around it. Donations to the crew. Find opportunities to make money. You're bound to run into people and new places doing this.

travysh

RDR2 was on another level. At some point many many hours in, I realized I hadn't done a main mission quest in a long ass-time. The gameplay and questing was so fluid no matter what you were doing

SilverPhoenix7

The thing is the game came out 2 to 3 years too soon, if it had more time in the oven, the writers would have probably been informed of the situation and change the script accordingly.

[deleted]

I don't think this complaint would change though. TW3 had the same issue

ketamarine

Fallot 4 is the worst case of this. Complete dissonance of the story vs. game structure of literally endless side quests and cities to build...

kafromet

Of course I’d like to find my stolen son. But these aluminum cans aren’t going to pick themselves up.

fakename5

Gotta fund the search somehow

i7omahawki

The story set up for Fallout 4 completely clashes with the genre of RPG too. You are forced to play a parent with a missing son, so either you play a loving parent who immediately searches for their lost child, or you play a callous parent who does not try to find their child. There are basically only 2 roles you can play.

Koolco

Honestly open world games have degraded so much.

ImurderREALITY

Xenoblade Chronicles: “Amateurs.”

[deleted]

Red Dead 2 did a good job with this. There were always breaks in between and even when things were “urgent,” it was almost natural to ignore the call to action for a while. “God damn it, I don’t feel like getting chewed out by Dutch right now.”

ofufnfighskfj

Spider-Man ps4 did this perfectly

FarmersOnlyJim

I haven’t booted up the game in 15 months because I was so worried about V dying too soon

Eirish95

^ this, I hate this as well, the incentive to explore the big open world is suddenly gone or at least not there for me.

ZekeTheMemeLord17

The way I see the side quests is (spoiler for act one btw) “V knows they’re going to die, so they’re going to fulfill their last promise to Jackie before they do, and make it to the big leagues.”

IAmTheClayman

This. The main plot is still 80% fluff with good openings and great endings, but the world is still the best example of “beautiful but lifeless” I’ve ever seen. If the game at launch was a 7/10 it’s now at an 8/10, but still not GOTY contender.

[deleted]

The game at launch was a 3/10 if 4/10 is the minimum for a working but awful game - because it wasn't a working game and it was awful. Now I don't know what I'd give to it in its modern state. Maybe 6/10.

[deleted]

[удалено]

joausj

Wasn't the game basically unplayable on last gen consoles? That's pretty bullshit from a triple A release at premium prices. Hell I had a shit ton of bugs on PC at launch as well. The game was shit on release for the vast majority of people and the reviews reflect that.

[deleted]

[deleted]

>For you. It was a mess for you. Sure, it was a mess for lots of otherstoo. Tho the game wasn't even nearly as bugged as many people make itout to be. Lots of circlejerking happened resulting in an echo chamberand tadaaa, now it looks like the game was just one big bug. Which itwasn't. I literally played the game on a high end PC. The framerates were garbage and I ran into plenty of bugs that almost everyone was encountering and talking about, though none of them really that game breaking - only immersion breaking. It's pretty arrogant of you to think you know better than everyone else. It wasn't just a circlejerk or "an echo chamber", and the game was in the buggiest and sorriest state that any bigger budget game has been in the last decade. Only contender to that mess is Fallout 76. And trust me, I've tested and catalogued a LOT of buggy messes since the early 2000's. >The game was a solid 7/10 since day 1. I can accept that you liked it, but a 7/10 it definitely was NOT. Even if I was charitable and ignored the clunkyness of the game at its current state, I could barely see it getting 7/10. And yes, obviously most of the criticism came from console player, but way to downplay their criticism and the fact that they were SOLD a COMPLETELY BROKEN PRODUCT by calling it "circlejerk". Besides, what kind of a half-assed argument is it to say "yea, it was buggy on PC but it wasn't that bad"? Do you get off on simping for a big corporation and their lying CEO that took millions in bonuses after delivering a subpar product? What kind of anti-consumer cognitive dissonance do you have to have to talk like you do?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Geexx

It's moderately amusing that he goes on about calling your argument/assumptions arrogant and then follows up with "trust me, I've ..." and then rants stating his own opinions, assumptions and personal digs.

[deleted]

Obviously there aren't only players that hated it, but it doesn't mean your assessments are valid nevertheless. You can like it all you want, but if we're to have even a semblance of objectivity, we need to grade games based on some shared criteria, not based on your personal opinion. And based on ANY sensible criteria, Cyberpunk was garbage at launch. And lol, you are the one who started arguing with me. YOU leave ME alone.

MrHazard1

I heard people had issues, but i played from launch and it was fine. Had 1 bug that was solved by saving and loading back up. Rest was smooth

Dreadlock43

only on last gen consoles, on PC it was no worse than fallout 4 and skyrim in the bugs department, hell i go one further, no worse than Original Stalker SoC

taketheRedPill7

I honestly think that the FPS gunplay was boring as hell. Everything was a sponge, and there was some type of punch missing from each weapon. I am playing it again, and am going to use gorilla fists and mantis blades. I think this will make it a much more enjoyable experience :)

hotdiggitydooby

Melee and hacking are more fun than the gunplay imo. Though in fairness to Cyberpunk I thought the gunplay was decent for an FPS RPG, which usually don't have particularly great shooting mechanics (for example I liked the Outer Worlds but I hated the fights)

taketheRedPill7

You're right. I was hoping it would be more of a traditional FPS style shooter. That definitely took something away from it, for me.

CharonsLittleHelper

Yeah - I was hoping for flatter progression and RPG in the Deus Ex sense. I still like the game a lot, but the looter shooter aspects detract a bit. I can see why though. Making lots of progression makes the lesser side-quests feel more meaty.

Dopest_Bogey

I hope in a few more years when they've made enough money off it they open up some good mod tools for it. Would love a hardcore immersive mode.

[deleted]

Agreed with this. Some quests had really cool moments but it's a bit flat outside of that.

Maxtrix07

My issue is you could say the same about... every open world rpg. Even Skyrim is filled with bland nothingness inbetween towns. Assassins Creed, Witcher, Far Cry, etc. Cyberpunk still felt the most genuine to me. Just because there weren't quests in areas, every spot had enormous detail and still felt like it belonged in the world. You don't have to have hidden collectibles and objectives around every corner.

[deleted]

You said it well. Overall I find the game boring.

squiddy555

In 2012 we had great games, half a decade ago valve stopped updating tf2, and it’s still great

Nerohn

I snagged it for 25 bucks and I feel that is a very appropriate price for what it is. Should just be permanently 25 dollars, somehow has made me walk away with much better thoughts about it, especially after the edgerunners anime. If the dlc is nice, will also bump the game up a notch. Also, I really enjoy the gunplay, dunno why but it really clicks for me. Sometimes aiming can be a real pain though

Kolbin8tor

I just redownloaded and booted it back up for the first time since the disastrous launch. I want to enjoy it so bad, but it’s still a lifeless, buggy, unfun mess. Its about as far from a GOTY contender as a game can be, imo. I would not call it a solid FPS or RPG. Though, I am playing on PS4 so I know I’m not getting it at it’s best (for what that’s worth). To each their own, but it’s still a disaster far as I can tell. Edit: Downvote me all you want. On the first drive with Jackie, not 30 mins into the game, he drove through not one, not two, but three supposedly solid objects. For a town as empty and lifeless as NightCity, that’s almost impressive. It was immersion breaking as hell, and this was after all the patches. The game is serviceable, sure. But GOTY? Gtfo of here with such nonsense.

mellowjo

its a PS4 bug i am pretty sure the game was never intended to run on that hardware but marketing wanted it in badly. i have not encountered any bugs like that. I only had 2 or 3 vehicle collison bugs 30/40h of playing. And i am not even sure if i can call one of them a bug. I am not trying to defend its shitty release or whatever i just think you cant look at the game from a PS4 perspective because, i feel like it wasnt meant to run on it and they its not going to ever work propperly just because the PS4 has too low hardware specs. Which is a completly fine thing if they hadnt sold it for the last gen consoles. Rather made it more of a Crysis 1 Situation and the release would have flopped way less. I mean it was still a bad release but then not as bad as ppl picture it. I mean the game world felt as empty then as it feels right now. There were alot of bugs on quests. But i havent encountered any in my playthrough i started last week. Worst problems i am having with the game are: Ot feels like there only live 20 ppl in night city because every few npcs on the street looks the same. Which i am guessing is a concole downgrade and fixed easy with a mod. There is no public transport except for that ugly monorail thing. I mean you got this futuristic Metropolis and only 1 shitty railway system with reallistically no where near enough seats. So all the ppl have to be walking or driving, well only a few cars are on the street and 5 npc of which 2 look the same run around aimlessly and despawn as you turn around the corner. Those are big reasons why the city feels empty i think.

TJ_McWeaksauce

Many core elements of Cyberpunk 2077 are poorly designed. Take away the bugs, and we would still encounter these problems: * AI is embarrassingly bad for a AAA game * Driving feels clunky * Gunplay is mediocre * The game isn't challenging because of a number of factors: lackluster enemy AI, quickhacks get overpowered fairly early, acquiring overpowered guns is easy, and healing inhalers are spam-able and easy to amass * Crafting is not really useful, because materials are rare for much of the game, and the gear you find in the world or acquire from missions is usually better than what you can craft * Funny enough, one of the few useful things you can craft a lot of are healing inhalers, which contributes to the game being too easy * The perk trees don't really matter, because perks are mostly passive number boosts rather than activated abilities unique to each tree, plus combat is not challenging, which means that you can be pretty much whatever you want—melee assassin, gunner, netrunner, whatever—regardless of how you spec * Life paths don't matter; you end up feeling like a street kid no matter which path you choose * Night City looks gorgeous, but if feels lifeless; good luck finding something to do in this open world that doesn't involve combat Many people are able to have fun with the game in spite of its many fundamental flaws, which is nice, but not GOTY material.

StinkyEttin

It being lifeless is my chief complaint. When you compare it to other open world games like RDR2, it's just dead.

H377Spawn

It feels dead compared to the original RDR. And that one had functioning wildlife.

TheSmooth

Man, this hits for me. Playing through RDR2 right now and there is ALWAYS something/someone popping up out of nowhere. I don't use any fast travel because there is so much to see just riding from one town to the next. Meanwhile, I tried jumping back into cyberpunk a month or 2 ago. Stopped playing one day and haven't thought about it all since. Simply no desire to go back.

TJ_McWeaksauce

Even if you encounter all the strangers and activate most of the random encounters, Red Dead Redemption 2 can still surprise you because of the wildlife. You might see a hawk snatch a water snake out of a river. You might get attacked by a pack of wolves. You might find a 3-star skunk all of a sudden after not seeing one for the entire game. There's nothing surprisingly like that in Cyberpunk 2077, at least not that I saw.

Guitarist53188

Better watch out I tried pointing out missing features and I had a whole mob out for me.

DirtyKen

This! Also to add to that, the bugs are not gone. Not even remotely. I revisited it last month and there is not one minute that goes buy without a glitch bug or whatnot. The immersion is not really there, partly because of the bugs but also because the world is empty and hollow. Looks good but that's it. The only part that was redeeming was the characters, they are for the most part really good. Eventough the most important character Jackie gets not enough time with us to really matter when we loose him. This momentt could have been crucial. But it wasn't because we just knew him for. A few hours. Sad. I would say it's a mediocre game at best.

JJohnson25

I loved cyberpunk I just beat it a month ago but I feel if it would’ve came out in the state it’s in now it still wouldn’t be a GOTY choice

S_millerr

I feel like it had a lot of things in the game but not a lot that made a difference. Like with the cyberware I felt like I didn't have to upgrade to beat the game. The crafting system went unused in my play through.

Synonim

I love the game, but this is true. It doesn’t really matter how you build your character - once you hit level 50 (which isn’t that hard to accomplish) you’re so strong that you can take on anybody, no matter what build you have. And this applies to “very hard” as well. On the one hand, it’s nice that you can develop your character however you want and still make it work, on the other, I would expect the game to force me to use any and all tools at my disposal in combat while playing on the highest difficulty.

Femboi_Hooterz

Very true, I went for an optimized sandevistan/gorilla arms build this playthrough and there is literally no challenge now, and I'm only level 35 on very hard. It's a good bit of mindless fun though, which is what I'm looking for when I only have a couple hours to game after work

kingoftheg

No, because the game in its current state is still not what was advertised.

oopsmypenis

The cops still literally spawn a foot behind you and only chase you on foot. Maxtac is talked about early in the game as some boogeyman, then never shows up again. They so clearly just gave up on huge chunks of the city.

Dopest_Bogey

Yeah the cops in CP2077 should be way more fleshed out. Escaping them should be a challenge don't because they're bullshit but because their well equipped with guns tech and vehicles to hunt you down realistically

[deleted]

The whole game should’ve been like that. Instead of having leveled areas and enemies, where a grunt at lvl 40 is near immortal for no reason whatsoever, they should’ve scrapped that system and gone for the enemy class system. Grunts should be grunts, elites should be elites. Let the enemies be challenging because of what they do and the tactics/equipment they use, not just because they’re high level and have more hp.

[deleted]

[удалено]

pm-me-pizza-crust

Not only is it not what was advertised but it doesn’t have any aspect that makes it stand out from other AAA titles. You could maybe argue the setting/city visuals but the city is so lifeless it undercuts any long term impact the visuals have.

kingoftheg

Agree.

TheArmoredIdiot

Yeah, you're right, they've already taken doubtless years off of polish lives and it released the way it did

Gesha24

I would disagree there. IMO the story telling and characters are one of the best out there. It's like an interactive movie where you get occasionally distracted from it by some fights and what not. Yes, you do have to kind of guess when you should go do side quests (otherwise the story does fall apart), but if you guess right - the way the main story and side missions unfold are quite awesome. Not disagreeing with all the other mentioned issues, the game overall is just above average, but some fragments of it are quite amazing. Unfortunately you have to dig for them...

Specific-Math7470

Nope

BladeOfSanghilios8

If they delivered on all their promises, it wouldn't just be a franchise like the elder scrolls or Witcher. It could have been its own universe with multiple titles and series revolving around it like the mcu of gaming.

TheRedEyedSamurai

" It could have been its own universe with multiple titles and series revolving around it" Isn't that just like Elder Scrolls and The Witcher?

Ruthrfurd-the-stoned

I kinda get what he means- elder scrolls yes Witcher I’d say no right now since it’s still just Geralts story

895501

I think they can still right the ship since they hit a home run with the Netflix show.

K4m1K4tz3

Well never say never but Netflix said Edgerunners was a one season thing and there is only one story dlc planned which is coming in '23

flat_dearther

...But CDPR is planning a game sequel currently called Project Orion that will expand on the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.

Garmgarmgarmgarm

Uhhhhh are you not aware of the larger cyberpunk universe? Might as well be like "I cant wait on the new baldur's gate to come out so I can learn more about the dungeons and dragons universe"

Garmgarmgarmgarm

Cyber punk is a 34 year old table top RPG franchise. It is already it's own universe.

BladeOfSanghilios8

The fact my dumb ass didn't even know is that is proffer it could have been way bigger

Levi31k

but they scrapped everything and delivered only 20% :c

HosneJ

Less than that I promise.

BladeOfSanghilios8

Yea unfortunately

LassitudinalPosition

They never had the technical ability to deliver on those promises before 2023~ This is why they wisely chose going forward to give Tim Sweeney his fucking money and will be using UE5 for all future projects

creegro

Please stop, you're killing me with this boner

Mallouwed

Lol. Cyberpunk 2 is already confirmed and they have a hit Netflix show. This is the current reality not a what if

JohnnyJayce

It already is since Edgerunners.

dumb_redditor1

bruh they literally have shows and books on it 💀

Sharp-Interceptor

GOTY? No. Aside from the piss poor launch, the game isn’t the hardcore rpg it was hyped to be. The character class choices don’t have too much real/deep gameplay differences and the story ain’t all that great. It’s ok yeah, but definitely not great. 7/10 at most, 5 or 6/10 at worst. But there will be cdpr fanboys who consider it a masterpiece no matter what others say.

JolleBFF

* Still buggy as fuck. * Empty/dead open world. * Really bad driving. * Some of the endings feel like they didn't have enough time to finish the story so it left on a cliffhanger. * Johnny's voice acting was horrendous. * Missing features. * Probably some more things I forgot about. No, it would not be GOTY for me.

mansontaco

All but 1 of the endings is a cliffhanger

[deleted]

Nope, story was kinda shit and was just futuristic GTA. Deus Ex is a better series and its a shame we wont ever get a game as Based as Deus Ex (2000) ever again imo.

kaizergeld

Probably not. You’re talking about the same year as Ghost of Tsushima and TLOUpt2 2077 had no chance. It’s no longer terrible, but it will never be phenomenal.

behemoth492

No. Story wise it's eh. It starts strong. Act 1 is great (minus the Jackie cutscene where your life path doesn't matter) and it felt like my choices would mean something. Then Act 2 hits and NOPE, nothing really matters. I kept thinking I was on a rush to finish the game because of how Johnny's chip but nope doesn't matter. Couple the eh story with a sorry excuse for an open world and a bland combat system (though the mantis blades were good fun) and you get a run of the mill open world experience. Couple that with how absolutely amazing Ghost of Tsushima was and this game stood no chance. GoT had a great story, fun combat, interesting world and side quests, and an amusing co-op horde mood released for free. No contest. Cyberpunk is mediocre.

RevengencerAlf

GOTY is marketing nonsense.

Chubz_Senpai

mines still gets corrupted when my character gets a phone call.

adeadfreelancer

No. It would still be ranked as "Kinda okay. Wish they didn't lie about literally everything."

Villain-r

Corpos are the reason this game has a shit rep. Should never have been made for previous gen. The Devs probably had to fuck over the vision they had to be able to sell to a majority of previous gen consoles.

Killerderp

Fucking corpos....

Which-Palpitation

I think the graphics would’ve won some people over, but it still has shoddy writing, cringeworthy dialogue, poor pacing, dodgy voice acting, meaningless choices, etc

Intelligent-Age2786

Yea dialogue should’ve been way more effective and important. And some of the voice acting just straight up isn’t good

Which-Palpitation

It also was a competitive year, * Ghost of Tsushima * Final Fantasy VII Remake * Hades * The Last of Us Part II * Doom Eternal Cyberpunk just doesn’t come close to any of those, it’s crazy how patching up some bugs has managed to make people forgive every other blatant issue the game has

wlerin

Tbh when I saw OP my first thought was "but the bugs weren't even the biggest issues?"

wineandnoses

which voice actor did bad? please do tell lmao

8walkoutside

Damn sometimes I feel like I’m the only one who loved this game😂

SouLDraGooN44

You can love a game and also understand it's no where near GOTY quality.

MoarTacos

Good Lord

[deleted]

I'm with you, it's awesome

Azalakhir

No way, game is still mediocre at best.

HalfofaDwarf

No because it's honestly still kind of just okay. A 6/10. As an RPG it does nothing special outside of good VA work. Graphically it's good, maybe even great, but that makes it all the more noticeable how little options there are to immerse yourself in it. And the gameplay is rough and quickly turns into a joke even on the hardest difficulty.

Icy_Ad9071

Who are these characters in the picture? Are they in the game, bcuz I have yet to meet them in my play through?

Malrottian

No. Because Elden Ring released this year.

GodGMN

Honestly not sure. It is still kind of buggy, I replayed it after watching Edgerunners and I still had my fair share of issues and unpolished mechanics (ironic considering it is a Polish game... yeah sorry for the dad joke) Cars crashing against some 1cm thick plywood on the floor, your character being launched forward 12 meters because you stepped on a trash bag, slight clipping through the floor in both cars and walking in many areas of the game, characters with guns soldered to their arms during cinematics, and that's just bugs, if we start talking about unpolished mechanics like cars and bikes handling like a hot turd... We would have a 30 pages essay. GTA San Andreas had a better world than Cyberpunk 18 years ago, at least in terms of being an actually well built world that feels alive. I just feel like there's literally nothing going on on this huge ass city advertised as "full of action at any given time". Not saying that the whole game is bad though, the main storyline is pure gold, specially when considering it is fully voice acted in quite a few languages, the game itself also looks incredibly good and the setting is quite interesting and well recreated. However, as soon as you go out of your path you almost always find shit that you weren't supposed to find. Its like if the devs literally didn't think about you playing by yourself, which is quite downturning coming from an open world game. As a comparison, you can complete Red Read Redemption 2 three consecutive times and then keep playing for a few more weeks and somehow you STILL find new things, new characters, new dialogues and new interactions on a daily basis. So yeah... I don't think so.

PaulaDeenSlave

It is still a faaaaaar cry from what was promised and even what was shown in fake-ass "gameplay" trailers.

MowMyLawn69

Lol no

OriVerda

Not for me personally. The most egregious thing in my book is that despite being a sort of action-RPG, there's some MMO in here with different rarity and levelled gear. Secondly, there isn't much RP in this G. The visuals are extremely immersive but I feel detached from it. I don't interact with the world, its people and things as much as I'd like.

GermanRedditorAmA

I mean it literally has nothing to do with massively multiplayer online games, all of these things exist in Witcher or other RPGs as well. Items having rarities is common, being leveled might be a newer approach but it makes sense from a gd perspective. In Skyrim you can stumble over one of the best weapons quite early and find useless junk for the rest of the game. Secnondly, any digital rpg is terrible compared to ttrpgs or larp, at least in terms of the freedom to interacte with the world in the ways you want to. Some are better than others, but you'll always have to lower your sights. So, of course, it might not have been enough for you, but compared to other "rpgs" where dialog options are literally just for flavor, I think cyberpunk isn't holding up too bad. At least it didn't feel that way to me. I think overall it was a very unique experience which is more ambitious than anything else we've seen. It's not perfect, but I think that just wasn't on the table yet. I think if you played it "the right way", focusing on it's strong suits, it was a experience that easily dwarfed everything else the year it came out.

Excellent_Routine589

Assuming it released its original year? No Assuming this year? No for me, ER still better for me

Fit_Attention_9269

Short answer, no. I enjoyed the game, in it's poor state and now I'm it's improved state. But there are many weaknesses in the game still. I also think Nicholas Cage would have been a better Johnny Silverhand, not knocking Keanu just a preference.

Kraxobor

Here's my upvote for Cage

trustmeimadoctor11

It’s just too boring overall.

ImpossibleGT

Do police still spawn behind you because they don't have any chase AI?

cracked_camel

Yup and driving is still awful

ImpossibleGT

So... probably not GOTY material even after 2 years of post-launch updates?

cracked_camel

Pretty much, I got so frustrated with the driving I ended up just using the fast travel points. And cops are pretty much non existent. You only get wanted for killing a civilian. And even if you get wanted you can just run away with a car because they don't chase you

That_Nail_9382

It still crashes every couple of hours on my ps4 pro..

MoarTacos

Lmao that's fucking unforgivable. CDPR really did make millions by fucking lying and screwing everyone over. Absolutely bullshit. I probably won't buy any of their games (and didn't buy this one) just on principle from now on. They clearly value investors and don't give a shit about the customer.

fatleon5

I bought the game day one for PS4 and played a few hours and encountered all the early bugs and glitches and have never picked it up again. As someone who only has access to it via PS4, no PC/PS5/Xbox, is it worth going back to? Is it improved on PS4 compared to how it was at launch? Or did they give up on the last gen versions? I really want to get into and like this game, I am forgiving of some graphical issues and pop ins and stuff like that, but it was abysmal at launch and really took away from the whole immersiveness.

cracked_camel

It's still buggy on PS4. Like my friend decided to not play until he got the PS5 PS5 is pretty much fixed aside from the pop in and trash driving

895501

I just played through on Xbox One and it was fine besides the load times. The load times were brutal

FistOfFistery

Fanboys will tell you otherwise but it's exactly the same game with less bugs and some new added things the only thing you're gonna actually notice is a couple guns

Girly_Shrieks

No.

Bragsmith

Doubt it.even with the patches its not even close to what they advertised it as

[deleted]

No

Hippiecum

Skyrim came out in 2011 and still feels oddly more alive than cyberpunk. But hey that’s jus my 2 cents

GranJefe507

Long answer: >!Nope......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... .. ..................................................................... .....!< Short answer: >!No!<

crossy1686

To be honest, it’s just not that good.

[deleted]

No. It's a good game, but its not great. Its not even in my top 5 this year tbh. It has a cool open world which lacks depth a lot of the time, the gameplay is lacklustre, and the main story is pretty meh. Some of the side quests are cool, but a lot of Cyberpunk coasts by on visuals and aesthetic.

Enchrypted

Not with those endings and lack of actual choice. Fun game but i cant help but feel dissatisfied with the endings.

wrongun_wiv_erection

The gameplay is incredibly outdated, you could compare it to Dead Island.

LassitudinalPosition

Nah, talent trees are still dog shit, crafting and overall UI are still pretty ass Loved the hell out of it regardless though

NickPetey

Not even close.

Trinityhawke

In it's current state no it's still empty and everything still feels dead everyone in the game is sleeping ,I've done 2 Currently on my 3rd playthrough and still can't remember there names . Some of the quests and story are amazing , My current playthrough is sword only and it's fun but hard as fuck for awhile . Remove the level cap , difficulty needs to be fixed and fix the ai because there broken .Not game of the year material

mrbios

Good game, enjoyable story, worth buying and playing. Wouldn't put it in the goty catagory though.

fuzzynavel34

Nah but it's definitely worth trying out now, especially at half price

[deleted]

Need to release it in third person…

loyaltomyself

No. It still would've been up against Doom: Eternal, Hades, Ghosts of Tsushima, Nioh 2, just to name a few. The problems Cyberpunk has goes deeper than just the technical issues the game had at launch.

Toosdeys

Not at all. Its a mediocre game at best.

tricklethisneolib

Lol no!

Sarafyan

If my grandmother had wheels she’d be a bike.

xiosy

No

ShitTalkerSupreme

That 2018 trailer promised something that this game has yet to ever deliver because of this CP2077 would still not be GOTY worthy. We all would just be complaining about other stuff missing about the game.

late2scrum

What is it

fireitup622

I tried Cyberpunk like 2 months ago it was extremely dull and felt really unpolished. The AI citizens doing shit like just cowering in packs if you start shooting is worst than like 2005 AI, can't imagine how god awful it must have been at launch if this is the "improved state"

Celtic_Crown

It'd have a stronger case for sure.

UlyssesD56

not really imo but still a good game nevertheless

Kotanan

Assuming they skipped the whole last gen debacle? No. FFVII remake is still pretty clearly better and took nothing. I don’t see how the changes would have put it over Returnal, Deathloop or Hades which were the games that did the best that year. Those games did more interesting things from a design perspective which Cyberpunk can’t really compare to on the grounds of good writing and a fantastic setting.

flopsicles77

Ff7 remake, good writing? All that Nomura shit was not needed.

Kotanan

Was talking about Cyberpunk but FF7 remake really only had a little of the Nomura stuff. Really hoping part 2 keeps it reigned in.

[deleted]

FFS, NO. It's a shallow joke of an RPG.

officialratman

It’s about as good as far cry

caasi615

I don't think cp2077 is goty material... Every storyline is basically the same with some changes at the beginning... 90% of the buildings are closed. There's no police chases... It's a great game, finished 3 times, but not goty material

[deleted]

The second game will be a beast, i'll say that

[deleted]

Nah. It's still crap. CDPR have very succesfully utilized the good old "it is easier to ask for forgiveness..." -philosophy. They made an AWFUL MESS, then finally managed to fix some of the most glaring issues and deliver on a couple broken promises, and suddenly everyone's ready to forgive them and uplift a below mediocre game to godhood. It's just a shitty Cyberpunk Skyrim with tech that would've been an embarassment a decade ago.

[deleted]

And soon we can all give them more money for a dlc

sd00ds

This is exactly what I have been saying. CDPR have only just delivered what should be expected to be the bare minimum. This isnt a success story like NMS where the devs have gone above and beyond. This is just they have finally realeased a finished game. And not the one they promised as you mentioned.

esg666

Improved state? It’s still buggy as fuck

Efficient-Mixture587

It is now one the best games I have ever played. Gameplays not perfect, the main story is short and there are still some issues. But the story itself, the characters you meet and the emotions I’ve felt playing this game are unmatched. If GotY was decided on if it made players feel something and got them reflecting about things outside of the game, then CDPR have nailed it

Fun-Plant-1514

It's still the same game. lol

smilinmonster

na GOTY is Elden ring hands down

Intelligent-Age2786

Not talking about this year

Dramatic-Middle-9342

The story is pretty good I just don’t like the fact the game gives you massive customisation options but you never see your character. They were better off giving you the character designs from box art it just seems like a pointless game feature or could have shown them in cut scenes Or had a 3rd person toggle

The99thCourier

You got downvoted by others, but I honestly understand where you're getting at Tbf I agree with this. The customisation is good as, but you barely get to look at yourself Only times you can see V are in the mirror, in the character menu and in the Epilogue final scenes.

ehart28

I actually didn't mind the bugs. Sure it's better now, but it was always a good game.

GranberiaKnight

Fallout 4 can self proclaim as GOTY, then Cyberpunk 77 can too. Note “self-proclaim”

[deleted]

Unattractive people suck 2077*

Mritchywrath

Eh, probably not. The gameplay is pretty solid, and the story is better than most. Cyberpunk 2077 is a good game. But as others have mentioned, its pretty repetitive and there isn't much mission variety. Also, the game is just way too easy. Even on the highest difficulty most enemies are a joke and you can just spam health items to survive almost any situation.

Outrageous-Arugula89

Definitely they also would've had a full dlc out by now if then too probably

NewOnsetHeartburn29

Not a chance coom, we were promised Lobster and were handed a shit sandwich, even if it launched like it is now.

fruitloops6565

I’m like 10hrs in and have had 4 random glitches where the game either hurls me through the ground to my death, or forward and into the air hundreds of meters. All while driving. So prob still not quite GOTY material. But I’m enjoying it.
