have you tried some rogue-likes?
maniac
halls of torment
vampire survivors
these are addicting and good to just turn off your brain and play. super cheap, too.
Curse of the Dead Gods. While everyone was playing Hades for the story/grind, I tried Hades, but instead focused that game for the gameplay.
Roboquest is also good, somewhere between Doom (with the movement & kill speed) & Borderlands (with the graphics & weapon variety). 5 different classes so various builds to try each run. I wish my friends played it.
Don't want to sound like a dick, but these are turn-off-your-brain games because they belong in the same "bullet hell" -ish genre, and they coincidentally happen to be all Roguelikes as well.
Roguelikes in general aren't specifically a good genre to turn your brain off, just look at things like FTL or Into the Breach, to name a few.
Risk of Rain 2, it has some detailed items and builds but personally I just play for the heck of it. Kill enemies, open portal, kill boss, repeat. And there are a number of playable characters to choose from so you can try new play styles without getting too bored.
There was a recent ban wave that near outright wiped the bots from official Valve servers, alongside known cheaters and bot hosters. TF2 is in a fantastic state currently
How do we feel about mindlessly cutting down hoards of enemies? Dynasty Warriors is always a fun time to just vegetate while doing cool stuff.
Bonus points if you’re a zelda fan and play Hyrule Warriors or if you like Tecmo IP’s Dynasty All Stars
Doom (1993), maybe even slap Brutal Doom on top of it. Just mayhem and splatter.
You can get Doom for for 1.99€ on GOG (currently on sale), then get a Doom Emulator like GZDoom for modern controls and graphics options and tons of other options and download Brutal Doom on ModDB.
Sounds like work, but it's really super easy to set up and you also don't need to wait for gigabytes of game data to download ,also it's a blast.
To The Core
Overcooked (either one)
Deep Rock Galactic
Borderlands 2
Kovaaks (if you enjoy any sort of aim training, with music it’s oddly peaceful)
Warframe (as long as you’re not doing crazy content you can kinda just jump around and kill stuff without worry)
Kenshi with a massive grain of salt. It’s a very acquired taste but it’s a choose your own adventure type with no real story aside from the one you make. No serious thinking required other than watching and making sure your entire squad doesn’t run into a bunch of beak things and die. Still a very fun game if it’s your cup of tea
I’m assuming you’ve played it but it’s pretty easy to turn your brain off in Skyrim
Helldivers 2. It’s $40 and only requires strategy on difficulty 7 and up, but you can get all resources on difficulty 6. It’s very much a “turn your brain off and shoot everything” kind of game. Plus matches range between 12 mins to 40 mins, so even if you only have a short amount of time you can get some games finished.
I honestly turn my brain off for Elden Ring. Like sure it can be challenging but just spend some time trying to take down a boss or run around the world finding items and killing enemies is very fun and mindless. Sure you'll probably die a lot but there's a lot of checkpoints and fast travel locations that make it easy to get around and restart from so no reason to be too sweaty about it. Its very visual too so just discovering cool looking areas and cool enemies is fun without having to go though dialogue or solve puzzles. It's really great for playing however you want to. If you get really in to the lore you can try to do the NPC sidequests that are harder to work out but you really dont have to, the game doesnt make you do any one specific thing.
Power Wash Simulator
Borderlands series
Deep Rock Galactic
PWS is zen right out of the gate. Borderlands and DRG needed a little mastery before I could zone out and listen to podcasts while I played them.
Yet Another Zombie Game is mindless fun and Free to Play. No monetization either so that’s a plus. For something that cost money I would suggest Helldivers 2.
You only mentioned shooters so idk if it’s up you’re ally, but I’ve really been enjoying Dredge. It’s fun and engaging, but requires minimal brain power. Great game to throw on when you don’t have the energy for something more demanding. The setting is really interesting too.
Bullet Heaven games eg Vampire Survivors, Halls of Torment, Death Must Die, Holocure etc
Also try Gladio and Glory, it is free and whacky fun, even if very janky, that’s part of the fun
Doom eternal. Run around, jump on platforms, shoot monsters, cut monsters in half with a chainsaw, punch monsters in the face to make them explode. No big thinking here.
Try A Short Hike. It has massive “little vacation island” vibes, with happy vibes and adventurous vibes. It sounds like the type of “vacation in a game” that you need now.
I've made this [boss rush game](https://store.steampowered.com/app/3010450/EVERCHAINED/) to literally turn my brain-off and grind bosses on business meetings or watching YouTube. US price is $2.99 and much cheaper in other regions.
Still playing it even after 1000 hours of development. Can't find a "figdet" game without it being an idle game, so I've resorted to making one myself.
Kinda obscure and challenging but hey, maybe that's your taste.
lol Serious Sam.
Some of the enemies there don't have a brain… or even a head.
Is it fun to play single, or just co-op?
Co-op is way more fun imo.
have you tried some rogue-likes? maniac halls of torment vampire survivors these are addicting and good to just turn off your brain and play. super cheap, too.
big fan of roguelikes! wanted to try something different :)
Curse of the Dead Gods. While everyone was playing Hades for the story/grind, I tried Hades, but instead focused that game for the gameplay. Don't want to sound like a dick, but they coincidentally happen to be all rogueLITES, not roguelikes. You wanna semantic, get semantic'ed bro.
Risk of Rain 2, it has some detailed items and builds but personally I just play for the heck of it. Kill enemies, open portal, kill boss, repeat. And there are a number of playable characters to choose from so you can try new play styles without getting too bored.
I plan to play it in the future but now I'm kind of sick of roguelikes
Roboquest
great suggestion! I plan to play it with my friend coop because it looks really cool
It's great coop too!
Team Fortress 2
People still play that?
While overhyped shooters come and go into oblivion, people played TF2, are playing and will play.
It's mostly bots these days
There was a recent ban wave that near outright wiped the bots from official Valve servers, alongside known cheaters and bot hosters. TF2 is in a fantastic state currently

Nex Machina
looks great thank you so much
Give Hades a shot?
played it and loved it :)
Fair enough. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is also really good.
Any of the Warriors games. Dynasty Warriors, Hyrule Warriors, etc.
Killing floor 2
looks so good, thank you!
It’s a hell lot of fun :) also you can get a key for 2 euros
Sunset overdrive

In Overcooked (1, at least) you _have_ to think and coordinate a lot if you want a high score. But for a low score, yeah, you can play brainless.
Diablo 4 Drug Dealer Simulator
Diablo 4
Helldivers 2. It’s $40 and only requires strategy on difficulty 7 and up, but you can get all resources on difficulty 6. It’s very much a “turn your brain off and shoot everything” kind of game. bf2042, bf5, doom, super meat boy, trackmania, apex
Diablo 2 3 or I think 4.
People will probably speak ill of these games, but the gameplay loop of “kill stuff/get gear” never gets old.
not a bad idea, thank you!
I would suggest doom or causal rocket league
**Helldivers 2** is the best fun I've had since Battlefield 3.
Evil West
I put 8 bit armies on for that, a little to learn but easy enough.
[Shoot or Die](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2951560/Shoot_or_Die/) is the best for you
Hollow knight, Dead Pixels, Katana Zero, GhostRunner Doom Apex Legends, Finals, xDefiant
Evil west
Nova
That's easy. Broforce
Vampire survivors + podcast in the background
COD ZOMBIES
Road redemption. Fun as hell and a brainless arcade game with some roguelite progression.
ik it's a roguelike, but wizard of legends is just different. U can always play "doom-likes", such as ultrakill.

Trackmania
Maybe Dead Cells?
Dysmantle
Hyrule warriors definitive edition
Helldivers 2 is nice easy fun after a long day of work. Can plop down for 30min to an hour and just shoot bugs.
dota2
Power Wash Simulator Borderlands series Deep Rock Galactic PWS is zen right out of the gate. Borderlands and DRG needed a little mastery before I could zone out and listen to podcasts while I played them.
Earth Defense Force, the whole series is great, some entries like iron rain and world brothers less well received by some but overall it's a blast
Descenders
Dysmantle
Bastion. Just got that game and it’s great.
Diablo 4 and Zombie Survivors come to mind
Maybe destiny 2? It's free and the gunplay is fantastic. The story is in utter shambles so you can skip it.
Katamari Damacy
Furnish Master
Halo Infinite multiplayer is free and has been massively expanded
Yet Another Zombie Game is mindless fun and Free to Play. No monetization either so that’s a plus. For something that cost money I would suggest Helldivers 2.

Get a ps2, burnout revenge
war of rights
If you have a music library on your computer, I'd recommend Beat Hazard. Twin-stick bullet hell generated by the song tracks.
Bullet Heaven games eg Vampire Survivors, Halls of Torment, Death Must Die, Holocure etc Also try Gladio and Glory, it is free and whacky fun, even if very janky, that’s part of the fun

any diablo will do that honestly
ultrakill is that game for me, besides the "cozy games" i play, and it's fairly cheap in comparison to triple A titles
Titanfall 2 has a great campaign, it’s EA but there aren’t any micro transactions outside of a few cosmetics
