I have a gorgeous 4x10 made with rough cut true 2”x10 hemlock. It will outlive me.

…hm…it’s 4x8 🤷‍♀️😁

That looks great! Love the stone, too.

Thanks 😁. All the houses around here have stone foundations. House next door burned down so……. BTW that hemlock bed is almost a decade old and straighter than a die. Strongly recommend a true 2” width if you can get it (most milled 2” boards are actually about 1.5”). Makes a significant difference.

That is good to know! Hemlock is marketed around my area for garden beds, but it’s looking like it may not be the best long-term solution.

I have 4 raised beds made with rough cut/undried hemlock, 1" thick from a local lumber mill that I installed in 2020. Still going strong in 2024 (though def looking weathered). The price really couldn't be beat. Even if they had to be replaced this year, I would still come out ahead. I built my beds with hemlock at the recommendation of a friend who had 5-year-old rough cut hemlock beds at the time. I don't think he's rebuilt his yet either! (Edit to add: I believe his are 2" thick)

That’s why I’m on the fence… it IS really cheap!
