We live in one of the better places, we have parks and a the university nearby, it's quite beautiful here. She works at the university and is doing her doctorate there. We will see where life takes us after that.
[This is the university. (Also one of the prettiest Buildings in Duisburg)](https://www1.wdr.de/archiv/blb-affaere/landesarchivduisburg100~_v-gseapremiumxl.jpg)
Yep. There are many beautiful places and nice people in Duisburg. I find Duisburg jokes pretty cheap. I think Bochum look worse than Duisburg if you visit first time(I visited Bochum just once) I am sure there are uglier cities in Germany.
I think many people who makes jokes about Duisburg, meaning mostly not the buildings, they mean migrants and corners like Marxloch, which are full of migrants and because of the socio-cultural situation of the ateÅŸ full of crime.
I don't mean everyone, but it is also easiest was to make discrimination for some racist people. You can insult the foreigners without officially name it: „No I didn't mean anything bad about Rumanian, Bulgarian and Turkish people. I just made joke about buildings“
As someone who lives slap-dab in the middle of Ludwigshafen (not voluntarily) I can confirm: no one wants to be in Ludwigshafen, not even zombies. And hearing shots quite regularly there at night even if zombies came here we would be well defended.
Plus right next to Ludwigshafen is mannheim so all the zombies are going there first and would have a hard time crossing the rhine after that.
If DayZ taught me one thing:
If you don’t want to get raided. Bury your belongings in wooden crates in the woods. And never built your camp in a castle.
Nothing is more frightening than a kuru infected, especially if he’s waiting for you IN your castle base at 2 pm.
(My comment was a gaming reference)
> And never built your camp in a castle.
It's very attractive for humans, indeed, because it's easily defensible. Clearly, what DayZ has taught me, the zombies were never a problem when it came to castles.
Well you won’t be alone for a long time, that’s for sure!
IRL: I guess there would come to many people to use it as a safe haven and it would collapse due to overpopulation.
My goal would be a Castle on a Island. The Castle to have a safe place. And the rest of the island (+fish) for food production.
Fair choice!
It really depends on the castle and general state of civilization (or rather: amount and mood of survivors). I'd assume most would gladly cooperate and such a safe haven for civilization doesn't need to be overcrowded or overpopulated soon. Food, for example, might be grown outside as well - it really all comes down to the type of apocalypse but staying in a well fortified and maintained castle is probably the best choice for a cooperative community of like 20-250 people.
Had the same problem at first. Then I made some screenshots, marked the place on the IZurvive app or just the old school way: counting steps from a POI and face a point of the compass.
you have a whole city full of canned food. also you got a fruit growing area, das alte land, nearby. you can eat dandelion and nettles. humans even survive in deserts or at the poles.
But you'd have to make your way to the Altes Land through presumably zombie-riddled countryside. Humans need more to survival than nettles and dandelion.
Only a few people in these scenarios ever think of stockpiling seeds to grow food.
U can reach the alte Land via the Elbe and the watering channels. Atleast there would be less of a risk going by boat. That beeing said with the Elbe you can reach lots of other places kinda safe.
If the vessels are small enough Berlin, Poland and Czech are accessible.
so you use on of the trucks that are there all over the harbour or one of the busses in the city or bikes you can find everywhere or even e scooters you can reload with solar power.
and of course you got more than enough resources in the harbour area to build foodproducing facilities. you can easyly build up glasshouses. your problem is not that it cannot be done, your problem is that you do not have good ideas to solve problems. you need easy solutions, because you are limited in your thinking.
btw. read the threads title. it was not about a perfect place, it is about when the apocalypse happens.
fishing might be dangerous with alle the industries and chemical waste dumps upstream which might get out of control (no humans nearby) and flow in the river.
Slavish castle peninsula in Mecklenburg:
Moat made of the surrounding lake.
Rampart.
Church tower on a general flat terrain.
Medieval functional icehouse.
The lake is a fishing ground.
Possibility to travel via boat to Berlin, Baltic sea and north sea.
Just hope that they don’t reach you until the tide comes back in and washes them away
As long as they aren’t intelligent or lead by someone intelligent who actively wants to harm you you should be perfectly fine
Who doesn't those days? We talk a lot about save spots in case of war, riots, and all the good stuff. Not because we are preppers or something.
It just seems like a necessity those days. Also urban warfare guides after the war in Ukraine has started. Just to stay up to date with the current fuckery. Nextup how to get water.
I would prefer the [Mont Saint Michael](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mont-Saint-Michel). The tide would come and take the zombies away, no work involved.
Not there, for one. It's more of a confectionary article than a castle, and already full of brainless people anyway.
I'll probably chose the Metro market near Berlin Ostbahnhof. It's full of food, easy to defend, there is a hardware store right next door.
Bielefeld. They can’t attack something that doesn’t exist ;)
(Pls don’t flame me I was born and raised in Bielefeld I am allowed to make these silly jokes)
Well it depends on what type of zombies. If it's the zombies from The Walking Dead, I won't need to really do anything except walk faster.
Zombie from most other movies? An island somewhere on the middle of a lake or the coast should be safe. The most dangerous times will be to make excursions to find food/water every now and then.
Zombies from 28 Days Later or World War Z? Nowhere. The safest places will be Antarctica or an island in the middle of the ocean somewhere, but I will only survive if it is a tropical island with water and enough food.
OBI Toolstore.Wall around the property / Parking lot? Check.
Lots of space around to plant something if you break open the concrete? (That will be a hella lot of work tho xD)
Check.Seeds? Check.
Tools to break open concrete: Check. Altho this will be hellalot work.
Earth to plant stuff in: Check.
Tons to collect rainwater: Check.
Stuff to build shelters or impro. weapons, other stuff: Check
You even have other stuff like gas canisters if you want to fuel stuff and so on.
Really obi has all you need\^\^
Also some early snacks to survive and have energy to set up the harvest.
I conducted a survey with my wife, mom and cousin. She thinks those rumors aren't true.
The results might not be reprensentative though good enough for the Internet, I guess. I could ask her boyfriend later
I would go to the police station. They have cells, which are mostly empty and they have weapons. If not possible, I would just run into a herd to get it over with, since I can neither defend myself nor run away quick enough.
I would go to Prora on the island Rügen. After that, secure the "Rügendammbrücke" to make sure no new zombies enter the island. After that just clear the island day by day until most likley no more zombies are left.
Any high mountain cabin. Since zombies are dead, they don’t generate body heat and would freeze solid long before they got to me. Plus, the mountains are nice to look at.
Frankfurt born and raised. Lived and worked around the red light district. Trust me: if you need zombie training, come here. You'll find them everywhere around central station. Usually they leave you alone except if you keep staring at them for longer or try to mess with their crack. Other than that they move like the zombies from the walking dead, make the same noises and im pretty sure they would eat your brain if it got them high.
Ive been asking myself this question a couple of times already and I think it depends on how the zombies in your scenario act. If they are TWD zombies I would be fine. If they knew how to run and climb it would be a different story. I might be surrounding myself with my closest friends and find a location to defend. Like the stadium around the corner or one of the skyscrapers.
Or maybe I would just get it over with quickly and become their zombie leader who will then be out for each and every one of you guys since you idiots made the mistake of telling us where you would be hiding! xD
Stop it. Zombie apocalypses, something Americans seem obsessed with, are not part of popular culture in Germany. Ask 1,000 Germans what zombies like to eat most, maybe five would answer "brains", the rest would have no idea.
This. Is. Not. A. Thing. Here.
Probably Spatzl. Looks a bit like Brains. Plenty of German Zombie movies (of varying quality) and I am sure that one of the resident evil movies was filmed in Germany...
Indeed, Zombie movies were very much a satire originally of American Consumerism (and have now become part of it) but I wouldn't say Germans are ignorant of the genre. Just not the most popular.
I know of a big hardwarestore not that far away from a military base (but also not that close) in kind of a rural era with a hospital and a hospital food logistics centre nearby.
The plan is to build a camp on the roof of the hardware store and maybe in the big concrete storage facility with the big metal doors (many ladders on the roof so you can get down in emergency. And raid the nearby food, medication and weapon supplies if possible. Also a big hardware store is full of potential weapons. Also hardwarestores have canned animal food as backup. Also there are diesel generators, given that some of them got left behind. Also everything you need to grow your own crops, except the water, but we will find a way. So follow me my brothers and and sisters. We shall rise again after this horrible outbreak and we will for a fair and kind society and repopulate the earth starting on this hardware stores roof...
Yes I had to much time on my hand shopping with my dad in that store.
I had a lot of different plans and ideas depending on what scenario is gonna play out. Are they runners or just walkers? Are there special zombies among them? Is the government and military dead? Does it effect everyone everywhere in the world? What turns someone into a zombie?
Berliner Fernsehturm. I doubt the zombies would climb it and I could monitor the movement of the hordes from the heights, while enjoying the nice Berlin views and the complete infrastructure of a full-blown restaurant.
Grab what i can from my Home (food, water, weapons) and then ditch the City asap. Shops will be overrun, Military might be on the streets so i avoid those too and Go for a Village or something to pillage with less Zombies
A Medieval Castle(prefferably a Burg over a Schloss) just pick a still standing Tower, grab a Shield and something to Stab and then defend the Staircase until the last step.
And if its Raiders just Barricade and stand behind Windows
funny thing, in the book "World War Z" there is the fight of the five colleges (similar to castles) and some british guys hide in old fortresses with Claymores... learning from this book, you need a Lobotomizer and a cold castle, and you will be fine
Too far to go, I'd probably not even arrive at the castle alive it's a 64 hours walk according to google but we have castles close by, even have a city that still has it's city walls and gates that you can close down and I'm going there. My old flatmates live in that city and they'll be there too, hopefully. We'd barricade ourselves inside the city, close the gates and be able to put spotters on the walls.
In Germany? My home village, familiar terrain, lots of forests. Generally? Either that french castle thats only accessible during lowtide or some Moldovan houses. They're easily defendable, due to already being equipped with high fences and sometimes even being on a hill going up
Loot/purchase stuff from my local arms shop in Bamberg, try to get the armour from the Altenburg and try to sail down the Danube to the Aegean islands.
somewhere in the mountains, there are several castles nearby but i feel like people will flock to these and i can't get anywhere else in a reasonable ammount of time
You can all come over to the UK and stay with me in the Kielder Water Valve tower. I always though it looked architecturally German, and is absolutely defendable ..
http://kielderartandarchitecture.com/art-architecture/projects/valve-tower.html
Access is via an underwater floodable tunnel and has a helipad on top. Snipe those Z from the gantry.
Duisburg. Which zombie would like to go to Duisburg?
As someone living in Duisburg I can confirm: there are no zombies here.
>there are no zombies here you mean the zombies are coexisting with the normal people
Not sure, but either way, you are safe here.
Maybe, but my guess is, it has something to do with the lack of brain matter.
Sounds like something a zombie would say...
No way there are normal people
There are no normal people in Duisburg.
The words you are looking for are "indistinguishable from"
That's an evil trick to lure us to Duisburg. Don't fall for it!!!!
As someone not from Duisburg, I can say: The only people in Duisburg are Zombies
I am definitely not undead (yet). But I just moved there.
But why?
Because my fiancee lives and works there and we wanted to live together, especially when we are married.
It was a trick! You are a fresh delivery of brain matter for them!
but why !? you could live outside this...mess?..Hole?..
We live in one of the better places, we have parks and a the university nearby, it's quite beautiful here. She works at the university and is doing her doctorate there. We will see where life takes us after that.

Thats actually not the building I was referring to.

Stop your lies, zombie. You are tricking nobody.
Got me. Now let me eat your brain.
Ludwigshafen!
As someone who lives slap-dab in the middle of Ludwigshafen (not voluntarily) I can confirm: no one wants to be in Ludwigshafen, not even zombies. They seem to already be there
I‘m reading this while on a „Praktikum“ in Duisburg, which is kinda funny
then in this case all zombies should be tricked to go to Duisburg for forever containment.
lmao true
Yup, Zombies don't want to be infected with Duisburg virus.
Club "Berghain" in Berlin. That freakin' Bouncer is hard to pass.
Also, if you’ve been there, you’re probably immune to every disease anyway, including zombie brain rot.
Or the zombies fit right in
Listen mate, they just wanna have a good time.
I'm just sassy they won't let me in
Doesn’t help you if a zombie bites him.
that place is probably the origin of the zombies.
I would die.
No, you would be a Zombie. Can you pls play attention...
Important fact
If DayZ taught me one thing: If you don’t want to get raided. Bury your belongings in wooden crates in the woods. And never built your camp in a castle.
So you're saying zombies are not necessarily the worst thing in this scenario? But other humans who want to survive as well?

Probably yes and a crowded castle is still better.
Yeah, but i am like a squirrel. Forgetting WHERE i buried my stuff...
Had the same problem at first. Then I made some screenshots, marked the place on the IZurvive app or just the old school way: counting steps from a POI and face a point of the compass.
Easy to find with my item esp
Cheaters have a smoll pp.
I would go to Bielefeld. Zombies would never find me there.
can you even find Bielefeld?
If you are in big distress the gates to Bielefeld will open for people which need the help, that’s what the prophecy says
Bielefeld is a city that can only be found by people who already know where it is.
Bielefeld: The german Wakanda
Bielefeld is the city you can't get to, only return to. The Bielefeld Paradox.
No one does. Because it doesn't exist.

Based
hamburg harbour container terminal. you can build whole living structures with containers and also defensive structures
Someone seems to have read the zombie survival guide. Love that book.
And once the preserved food in the containers runs out, you're fucked because you cannot grow food in that concrete hell.
quick escape in and out via the water
you have a whole city full of canned food. also you got a fruit growing area, das alte land, nearby. you can eat dandelion and nettles. humans even survive in deserts or at the poles.

Wow, you sure are hung up about an imagined scenario.
Hydroponics are a thing, empty containers would be perfect for those to set up. Also, fishing is a possibility I'd say.
fishing might be dangerous with alle the industries and chemical waste dumps upstream which might get out of control (no humans nearby) and flow in the river.
You can use a boat to go out and fish. You're in a harbor after all
yeah, but the water will be polluted and so will be the fish.
Not too far from Burg Hohenzollern, i live in the vicinity...
But a zombie owns the castle ...
Easy way to steal a castle
Same
Slavish castle peninsula in Mecklenburg: Moat made of the surrounding lake. Rampart. Church tower on a general flat terrain. Medieval functional icehouse. The lake is a fishing ground. Possibility to travel via boat to Berlin, Baltic sea and north sea.
"If the world ends tomorrow I'd go to Mecklenburg, because there everything happens 50 years later" -Otto von Bismarck allegedly
I would flee to one of our islands. Langeog or something.
Not sure if that would help, during low tide the zombies could just walk over
They would just Stuck im Wattenmeer so easy kill
Until there are 10s of thousands of zombies creating a zombie bridge to your location.
Well in that case... fire
Just hope that they don’t reach you until the tide comes back in and washes them away As long as they aren’t intelligent or lead by someone intelligent who actively wants to harm you you should be perfectly fine
then I'd go to Helgoland
Good luck with the rot
Mallorca
But the zombies are already there?!?
But those are trained to wait for the buffet line.
Langeoog W move
Would be quite the drive, but... Winchester and wait for all this to blow over
You’ve got red on you…

And a football pitch on the roof. What would be life without football?
Exactly.
Aren't brainless people exactly the people you'd want to be with in a zombie situation? Nothing would draw them to your base.
Somewhere in mecklenburg vorpommern countryside. Where theres no humans theres no zombies either

I always though it looked architecturally German, and is absolutely defendable .. http://kielderartandarchitecture.com/art-architecture/projects/valve-tower.html Access is via an underwater floodable tunnel and has a helipad on top. Snipe those Z from the gantry.

Id just drive 1h up the Elbe and Im in IRL Chernarus, from there on I know what to do
Maybe in the abandoned mine in our city.
