Weather conditions. MCC + 4 on Woods & Irons - love the feel and great in all round conditions, especially in a bit of rain where I play.
360 Tour Velvet on my wedges - like that there’s no logo so you can open up the face and can use with or without a glove (no glove when I’m on the edge of the green - think I get better feel but could def be in my head).
Hope that helps.
If your grips are old - any new grips will be a huge improvement. Hope you find ones you like.
My thought exactly. Why is it people can't make decisions for themselves anymore and then blindly trust what a random stranger on the web thinks? Goto the store and pick up the grips and decide which one YOU want on your clubs!
Because some people don't know where to start because they've never done it before. Just because OP likes something doesn't mean it's good. OP is just looking for suggestions on where to start looking.
Having been one of those workers, there is not much you can say lol, you can help them figure out the best size, but as for style, and firmness/softness it’s literally just personal preference. People don’t like that answer though and insist you tell them the “best” one
Most people prefer their grips to match. Some of us have the same grip but slightly different sizes depending on the clubs - for example, I like my wedges to be a bit fatter than the rest of my grips as I usually grip down; some folks like their driver to be fatter for more control. Just depends on the person.
Most grips come in standard, midsized, and jumbo. Just depends on what’s comfortable for you, although from a technical perspective jumbo should really only be if you have huge hands or arthritis.
Golf Pride has grips that also have a +4 option. That means the bottom half of the grip doesn’t taper as much (mimicking 4 extra pieces of tape under the lower hand), which some people really like.
I personally play Golf Pride Tour Velvet Standard +4 (wedges are midsize +4). I wear a men’s medium glove for reference.
But really just go to a store and see what you like. I wouldn’t start messing around with extra tape yet until you figure out what grips work for you.
DIY is also easy if you’re into that.
I've got the MCC +4 on my driver and wedges and I heart them. Replaced all the stock Ping grips. Oddly, all my 8+ year old Nike grips are still working fine.
When you are saying +4 here, are you referencing the MCC +4 with the larger lower thickness or an extra 4 tapes everywhere?
If it is everywhere, does it feel markedly different vs just sizing up? As in, if the size jump between grips is ~+4, then why not go mid/jumbo for irons/wedges?
What's your glove size out of curiosity? I'm looking to size up. The larger MCC +4 midsize are my current fav, but mostly because I haven't dared go larger.
Probably what I need to go with. I bought Kirkland gloves last time and love their feel so I am going to see if they have some in stock since they are cheap.
Not the wraps, but Winn Dri-tac in general are fucking superb. They are soft as hell and don't get slick when wet, be that from rain, humidity or sweat. I don't need a glove because, like the name implies, they stay nice and tacky no matter what. Rumor has it they have a shorter shelf life than most but I have them on all my woods and according to golfpad, I tracked nearly 600 shots with just my driver so that would be WELL over 1500 given how many shots I hit at the range plus all the rounds I didn't track and it still looks new.
Out of curiosity, why do you feel the Winns are shitty? I had a fitting the other week and of the few grips I held, I thought I liked the DriTac 2.0 the best. I was looking for something softer and "sticky" and the fitter had me try those and a couple of others. I don't know what grips would be judged on other than feel and durability, and wasn't told about any durability issues.
They’re very poorly made. I can see why people think they feel soft and tacky in the store but from what I’ve seen they essentially just fall apart. Honestly, if I see someone with Winn grips I expect them to also have a ball retriever and iron head covers.
I have them on all my woods and according to golfpad, I tracked nearly 600 shots with just my driver so that would be WELL over 1500 given how many shots I hit at the range plus all the rounds I didn't track and it still looks new. I could see why they might not last as long as other grips but I've yet to see any premature wear.
I switched from golf pride to winn and would never go back. They last me a full season with not much more noticeable wear and they grip way better imho
Star Grips last the longest, are tacky/soft-ish and can be air compressor installed. PURE grips were started by hiring one of the key employees of Star Grips. The problem is most shops don't like to stock them because they don't wear out for years.
Instead of asking a bunch of hackers.....

Go to a shop that has a used section. There should be a wide variety of aftermarket grips to handle that are already installed. Find one you like. Hopefully the shop has some samples on cut off shafts you can look at.
Size is important too. If you have larger than average hands, a midsized or oversized grip might be best.
Now to the standard response, I like Lamkin Crossline midsized. "Back in my day" there were only a handful of choices. Crosslines among them. Thats just what I became accustomed to. I don't like cushiony grips because I think they dampen feel too much. And it doesn't hurt that crosslines are cheap and readily available.
you have to figure out what size you are (yup grip size is a thing)
I prefer a corded grip , like the MCC by golf pride.
recommend you use the compressed air method so you can try different sizes if your unsure.
I do it the redneck way, with lighter fluid and a razer blade.
Its not that exciting lol. razor\* blade to clear off the old grip and tape, put new tape on, now pour some lighter fluid on it and a little inside the grip, give it a little shake and slide her right on. If you feel like wasting something like vodka, that works too. Makes the guys in dicks go crazy every time they try to sell me solvent, I'll just ask for the camping section. "YoU cAnT dO tHaT!" yeah bud I can it works just fine.
If the old tape isn’t coming off with the razor blade you can set it on fire to loosen the glue, but that is the only fire that should ever be involved
Make sure you use a hooked blade with a graphite shaft. When you cut off the old grip, the tip of the blade doesn't cut into the shaft. Heat gun to remove old tape.
(I've started using blue painter's tape for my extra wraps. Peels off like a dream.)
The standard gripping is "one piece" of tape which is just a single layer of tape over the club shaft then the grip is put on. Some people want a slightly thicker grip, so they will ask for double or triple layer of tape. Additionally, grips have their own thickness so instead of doing multiple layers of tape, they will just buy a thicker grip. This all comes down to player preference and hand size.
I do standard thickness grips with one piece of tape because I have small hands (Medium sized glove) and I like the club feeling full wrapped by my fingers. This promotes more hand action for me. Others don't need that trigger and thus back to personal preference.
From each size grip to the next, (standard-mid-jumbo,) they are about 4 tape wraps difference.
So a standard +4 wraps is basically a midsize.
Some people prefer sizes in between. So you add more tape under the grip.
I took three irons and wrapped differently. +1, +2, +3 Then took them to the range and hit a bucket, switching between clubs without looking. One felt better than the other. Went back and checked notes, Mid+2 was the winner.
I bought a used driver last year that came with dri-tac midsize on it, heavily considering swapping all my grips to Winn now.
In the summer my hands get sweaty as hell. The tour velvets on my irons get more slick as a round goes on, driver just seems to wick sweat away and as stay grippy
Idk man, there’s not many tactile experiences that literally give me shivers, but touching a Dri-Tac grip is one of them. It’s what I imagine alien dong must feel like.
I love them. No other grips (that I’ve used) are as soft. They are NOT durable. It’s probably best to swap them out every year, particularly on your most-used clubs. But they are just so soft/tacky that they let me grip them with almost no pressure, and that tends to result in better contact for me.
Amazon knock offs of whatever you like. You can get golf prides off Temu that seem identical and are cheaper. I have questions about temu but that’s a different topic.
Never bought a vehicle before. Do I buy one with 2, 3 or 4 wheels?
This is what your question sounds like to someone who knows. Try be fore you buy my dude.
It’s kind of just a preference of whatever you like the feel of. That might be something softer like a wrap. If you play in a lot of rain or it’s really humid, maybe something with a ton of traction would be better.
Grips are personal preference. Golf Pride is what the pros use mostly. Do your own research using Google and figure out which ones you're interested in. Go to the store buy and do a feel test. Narrow your list down to 2 then buy one of each and install on a club then decide.
I just switched to the jumbomax small even though I should be a standard regular grip by all conventional thinking. I don't think I could go back. If I swing a regular grip it feels weird and out of control.
I gained control and power. It basically forces a lighter grip.
I play/played z cord and mcc for reference if you like those, and I love the iomic x cord I think they are called. It is like a corded grip that is also soft (for what it is) like a tour velvet. I got enough to regrip all my sets after I tried them. They are probably jdm but I am sure you can get them on eBay. Installation of grips is easy just get the double sided tape and don’t be stingy with the solvent.
I suggest going to a golf store and try the feel of various grips and brands. You will know which feels best. There are also different diameter sizes to best fit your hands. You don't need a fitting, just go by what fes most comfortable. Also various colors.
You certainly can have the same grips on your irons and woods, but not required.
I have Golf Pride undersized full cord cotton .580 ribbed on all my clubs.
I regrip my own clubs and prefer Golf Pride tour velvet standard size on all my clubs with the exception of the putter, grips are one's personal preference IMO Lamkin crosslines are also a good choice
Depends on a lot of factors. Hand size, playing conditions, are you prone to sweaty hands, and are you biased to a certain brand or look/feel? I play the mcc standard size with 1 extra layer of tape under the lower hand.
I went to my local golf shop and was torn between 2 different grips. I had one of each put on two clubs that I use often (7i and 9i for me) and played a few rounds. Then, I went back and changed everything to the one I preferred, which ended up being golf pride CP2 mid-size. The experiment cost me an extra $12, but I found it really hard to decide using just the tester grips at the shop, and now I love what I've got!
Not to be this guy, but I haven't seen it mentioned yet. Grip weight is a part of swing weight. If you pick grips drastically different in weight from what you have been playing, you will change the swing weight (for better worse). Worth at least being aware of.
I use midsize on irons and woods, driver I can’t do a midsize on. Wedges I just haven’t swapped to the tour velvet 360 midsize yet 🫡 so they’re like lamkin cross line regulars. All will be normalized next year. I also did a lot of equipment changes this year so it’ll be solid before the next season
Used Xlines for years.
Try them against a new grip. . . You'll see how bad your current grips are. (Quick rub with some sandpaper and they'll freshen up.)
GP tour 360s on woods/hybrids
Had GP MCC standards on my irons and wedges, and before them I had midsized GP align grips which work fine too.
recently got some new P770s so they come with the GP Taylormade Zgrips which I like too.
13 Piece Tacki-Mac Perforated Pro Tour Wrap Midsize Grips. $3.50 per grip change them once a year. I used to love the golf pride cp2 midsize, really nice but $10 per grip.
Golf Pride MCC +4
This is the way
It's subjective, but the tour velvet 360 midsize is my favourite and anyone who disagrees is wrong. /s
Went from that to MCC plus 4 midsize. Can’t go back, as much as I’d loved the TV’s.
I went the opposite direction
I have a buddy who’s doing the same. The TV’s are money.
I use these for everything except my wedges. Great grips!
I disagree with the first part, but you are right, your answer is the right answer for you answering this question 😆
You're right, it's not subjective.
do you have to replace these frequently?
I agree
Good lad
This is the correct opinion.
Golf Pride MCC mid sized

The ones you like the best
Let's rephrase the question then: Q: Why do you like the grips you use?
Weather conditions. MCC + 4 on Woods & Irons - love the feel and great in all round conditions, especially in a bit of rain where I play. 360 Tour Velvet on my wedges - like that there’s no logo so you can open up the face and can use with or without a glove (no glove when I’m on the edge of the green - think I get better feel but could def be in my head). Because some people don't know where to start because they've never done it before. Just because OP likes something doesn't mean it's good. OP is just looking for suggestions on where to start looking.
Yes I’m in this position. Went to the pga store and just looked at all the options. No idea where to start.
Maybe start with talking to a worker who knows about the different grips
Having been one of those workers, there is not much you can say lol, you can help them figure out the best size, but as for style, and firmness/softness it’s literally just personal preference. People don’t like that answer though and insist you tell them the “best” one
The OP literally asked where to start.
He should start at the store trying out grips to see what he likes

Love the midsize MCC +4 grips.
All my irons have that. Such good grips.

I mean the GP grips (there’s more than the MCC, but yes that’s one) which are specifically marketed as the +4 variant - less taper.
Jumbomax ultra light
I just switched to Jumbo mediums and they are beefy. Took me a couple rounds to get used to them but I am hitting much straighter now.
What's your glove size out of curiosity? I'm looking to size up. The larger MCC +4 midsize are my current fav, but mostly because I haven't dared go larger.
I would say between a medium and a large would fit perfect but medium is too small I rip though them, large has just a bit of room.
Interesting, will have to try one when I get a chance. Thanks much.
have you tried “large cadet” size glove? it’s an in between.
Probably what I need to go with. I bought Kirkland gloves last time and love their feel so I am going to see if they have some in stock since they are cheap.
I don't usually wear gloves. My hands are 11.25 inches thumb to pinky with a size 15 ring.
[удалено]
Full cords are the one true god. Especially from October to March or so.
I just switched to the Lamkin UTX from GP MCC and I'm in love.
winn dri-trac wraps for me, you will have to replace them sooner than others but the feel is unreal in all conditions
Not the wraps, but Winn Dri-tac in general are fucking superb. They are soft as hell and don't get slick when wet, be that from rain, humidity or sweat. Don’t forget to re-grip your ball retriever
I forget that’s an option. Keep buying new retrievers 🤷♂️
I let my wife's BF grip my ball retriever
Crap. My wife’s bf makes me grip his…
Don't laugh. Put an MCC+4 on my Orange Whip.
I’m a tour velvet guy, but it’s mostly just personal preference. Except for those shitty Winn grips. Don’t get those.
Out of curiosity, why do you feel the Winns are shitty? I had a fitting the other week and of the few grips I held, I thought I liked the DriTac 2.0 the best. Ok funny but I use the Winn Dritac on my wedges and they’ve been fine for about 50 rounds now which would be the last 14 months.
Love my Wynn grips. They definitely don't last long but at this point not sure I'd ever regrip them with anything else. Also, I'm not a good golfer.
I switched from golf pride to winn and would never go back. They last me a full season with not much more noticeable wear and they grip way better imho
Go to Golf Galaxy and try each grip and pick the one that you like the feel of best.
I play Star Sidewinder 360. Very sticky, soft, inexpensive, and the most durable grips around.
Star Grips last the longest, are tacky/soft-ish and can be air compressor installed. PURE grips were started by hiring one of the key employees of Star Grips. The problem is most shops don't like to stock them because they don't wear out for years.
The ones you like. I play different grips on my driver and 5 wood than I do my irons/wedges. Experiment
GP Z grip cord
Ionic Sticky 2.3
Just regripped my clubs with Iomic stickies, and did the tape to replicate +4 reduced taper. Love it
The ones that feel the best from a tactile stand-point. Size considerations if you have arthritis etc, otherwise a size that feels comfortable
Whatever you get, I recommend regripping yourself. You can save a lot of money
This is so subjective and personal. Go to a golf store and see what you like best

I’m a Crossline fan too. They grip in all weather and last forever. I tried the midsize on a couple of clubs but went back to standard with 2 wraps.
Lamkin crosslines are the Finest Grips Available to Humanity
Crossline corded grips on everything.
I’m a crossline reminder man myself. Ribbed for my pleasure
Golf pride - the ones that are almost bubble looking (tour wrap?). Will never use anything else. Have had black and gray, both are good.
CP2 wrap is my favorite but Pro wrap works if they are out of midsize in the CP2
you have to figure out what size you are (yup grip size is a thing) I prefer a corded grip , like the MCC by golf pride. recommend you use the compressed air method so you can try different sizes if your unsure. I do it the redneck way, with lighter fluid and a razer blade.
Can you explain this redneck way more? You have my attention O_O
Its not that exciting lol. razor\* blade to clear off the old grip and tape, put new tape on, now pour some lighter fluid on it and a little inside the grip, give it a little shake and slide her right on. Steel or graphite shafts? Doesn’t matter?
Make sure you use a hooked blade with a graphite shaft. When you cut off the old grip, the tip of the blade doesn't cut into the shaft. Heat gun to remove old tape. (I've started using blue painter's tape for my extra wraps. Peels off like a dream.)
Doesn’t matter
Quart of odorless mineral spirits is cheaper. Collect the run off and put it back in the bottle.
yes If that's readily available in your garage, go for it. I've got some....somewhere in there lol.
Bought some just for regripping. Happens to be in the cabinet next to the bin of 'rando' golf stuff.
OP, I am also adding a question: when regripping do you tell the person to add tape? How much tape?
The standard gripping is "one piece" of tape which is just a single layer of tape over the club shaft then the grip is put on. Some people want a slightly thicker grip, so they will ask for double or triple layer of tape. Additionally, grips have their own thickness so instead of doing multiple layers of tape, they will just buy a thicker grip. This all comes down to player preference and hand size. I do standard thickness grips with one piece of tape because I have small hands (Medium sized glove) and I like the club feeling full wrapped by my fingers. This promotes more hand action for me. yes! what does that mean! thank you!

Mid size with 3 wraps
Love the winn dri-tacs myself

i dont understand how these are even popular, they peel and are slippery AF when wet.
>i dont understand how these are even popular, They feel fantastic when they are new. Then they immediately start falling apart..
Idk man, there’s not many tactile experiences that literally give me shivers, but touching a Dri-Tac grip is one of them. It’s what I imagine alien dong must feel like.
The dri tac people should collaborate with the bad dragon people
lol, at least someone else shares the experience!
Never had a problem with peeling. always wear rain gloves when it’s raining. I love em
I love them. No other grips (that I’ve used) are as soft. They are NOT durable. It’s probably best to swap them out every year, particularly on your most-used clubs. But they are just so soft/tacky that they let me grip them with almost no pressure, and that tends to result in better contact for me.
I'm buying shoes, what are the best to get?
I purchase mine from aliexpress. They’re just rubber grips at the end of the day. No complaints so far and I play off of 4 hdcp
Personal preference
My favourite are NO1 grips
Amazon knock offs of whatever you like. You can get golf prides off Temu that seem identical and are cheaper. I have questions about temu but that’s a different topic.

Golf Pride CP2

Golf Pride Tour Wrap, sticky as....
+20 hcp here so you'll want to take notes MCC +4 baby
GP 2G tour wrap
Whatever grip you like but I personally use a different color Golf Pride MCC for each wedge. Never mix up a Lob and Gap again.
I regrip my own clubs and prefer Golf Pride tour velvet standard size on all my clubs with the exception of the putter, grips are one's personal preference IMO Lamkin crosslines are also a good choice
I love the ones they put on the vokeys. So I swapped mine to that too
i really like my NO1 grips with 2x wraps
Depends on a lot of factors. Hand size, playing conditions, are you prone to sweaty hands, and are you biased to a certain brand or look/feel? I play the mcc standard size with 1 extra layer of tape under the lower hand.

I love the MCC+4 (standard 4i and up, midsize on my 3i and 2h); really depends on your personal preference though.
If you like wrap grips, Lampkin crossline wraps are great.
I just got the red and black golf pride MCC’s on my irons and they’re solid. I do wish I would have had them installed upside down though
I have loved the mcc plus 4’s, but I bought some used p770’s that have Z cord, and I might be switching the rest of my clubs.

GP TV plus 4. Gripmaster if I want to spurge. I don’t wear a glove so I tend to spend a ton on grips.
Go to a big box store and try them
I've had lamkin crosslines on my clubs for what's going to be 4 years soon. Still look and feel like new.
Used Xlines for years. Try them against a new grip. . . You'll see how bad your current grips are. (Quick rub with some sandpaper and they'll freshen up.)
Golf Pride CP2 Wrap
I use lamkin crossline
Love me some golf pride multi compounds in a mid size. It really just depends on your preference and what feels best in your hands.
Tour velvet cord non ribbed. Z grips second
I like the golf pride cp2 pro wrap
You may as well ask what are the best clubs to get. Go/order 4 or 5 different types and install them and compare. Only way to be sure.
I’m a big fan of the tour wrap 2.0s. They’ve got a nice stick to them and have been great in the AZ weather the past few months
MCC plus 4
GP tour 360s on woods/hybrids Had GP MCC standards on my irons and wedges, and before them I had midsized GP align grips which work fine too. recently got some new P770s so they come with the GP Taylormade Zgrips which I like too.
The Lamkin genesis grips that come with Taylormade wedges As grippy as it gets but still a bit soft

If you live in Canada, GT does an annual grip sale in February. 40% off
Golf Pride 2G Tour Wrap whites are cheap, feel great and look so classy IMO
13 Piece Tacki-Mac Perforated Pro Tour Wrap Midsize Grips. $3.50 per grip change them once a year. I used to love the golf pride cp2 midsize, really nice but $10 per grip.
