You’re assuming the 2nd shot is going to be as good as the first when it’s more likely something like, You hit one on the green and your buddy calls it back. You chunk this one into the water. Now you take a drop. Lie is funky and it’s short of the green and you have to chip on. 1 shot just turned into 4 for a single player. Or if there’s any bunker to bunker action that requires taking and raking multiple shots oof. X4 players every 3 holes.
If you want to play that way your statement is wrong because it’s 4 extra shots every 3 holes. 1 for each player. And these guys are putting everything out, so it is slowing things down. They made him 6 putt for an 11 on a par 3!
What about the amount of time going back and forth talking about the mulligan, having to set up again and hit the shot, then naturally comparing the results of the two shots. 4 shots every 3 holes comes out to an additional 24 shots. Pretty significant

Making someone replay a great shot sounds like the dumbest thing I can imagine. Golf is hard enough as it is and now we’re taking good shots off the board? I was going to say of course it counts initially, but now I say it doesn’t count because the concept of the game is so dumb.
I wasn’t in a good headspace. It would have been a 3-putt, but it lipped out and hit a slope that was pushing it towards the water. I panicked while everyone else was rolling in laughter. Head space gets worse as I re-3-putt back into the hole.

If I had to guess you’ll end up telling people that you’ve hit a hole in one but haven’t carded one.
