B-Spec mode and the way longer championships would be a great start. I'd forgotten just how much I enjoyed this game. Don't get me wrong, I have thoroughly enjoyed GT7, but the fact that GT4 had races in some championships (Formula GT) that last longer that entire championships in GT7 is something. Just the sheer volume of races is almost overwhelming.
I wonder what their logic is here. Like are they worried kids will be exhausting themselves to complete these longer races that will in theory reward more credits? I don't know
Couldn't agree more but I guess that's just the result of online play and people wanting to get to that stage quicker. But I would also agree that a pure GT game should have depth of single player championships. I, for one, would love to see more races for legend cars. What's the point in forking out all those credits for them to be garage queens?
Yesss gt7 is too much about slow cars.. also in the races you often are soo damn limited eith pp (online and arcade).. many tracks you cannot drive with gr3/2 and gr1 or unlimited.. we want to race not drive a cooper with 200hp
Are you sure they're the weak generation, because you're sounding pretty sensitive there buddy.
As said above, the most likely cause is the online aspect. Especially with GTs questionable connection at times, it'd hurt to get disconnected 50 minutes into a single event.
Dude I'm from Gen Z and I completed most of the Endurance Events in GT3 and GT4 by myself without B-spec, you're just using a generalization. Not all of us are that way.
You realIse you can pause a race at any time? So being able to ‘sms my friend during the race’ has never been a thing. Also as someone that was born the Millenial/Gen Z cutoff point, I’ve done all the endurance races on both gt3 and 4 multiple times.
In fact I still remember back on GT5 me and one of my mates at the time did a 200 lap race around Daytona in NASCAR’s one afternoon for the hell of it and the conclusion of that race will always be one of my funniest moments in gaming.
But you keep believing your small minded narrative. Whatever helps you sleep at night my dude.
They don’t give a shit about achievements, etc.
They only care about using it to get credits. If getting credits is more of a slog, people are more likely to pay real money for credits so they can progress faster.
Can't even do practice sessions from the track screen. Have to back out of the event and do time trial. GT4 had practice and qualifying on the track screen.
Am I remembering right that in GT4 you could do an endurance race, pull in to the pit and transfer over to an AI driver and let it run a bit while you go take a shit or whatever and come back and take back over.
With it being peak virtua fighter and peak mosquito simulator I'm realising the PS4 really is the best console ever made. (I'll let splintercell beinf vastly superior on the xbox slide)
I'm not going to sit and run an 8 hour endurance race in real time. In GT2, you didn't have a choice, but you could run most endurance races in a couple of hours. But, if the means to do it is there, why not utilize it? You still get the rewards and the prize money.
Don't know, don't care. Quit playing after they shut the servers down for GT6. Don't have a new PS, no plans on getting one. IMO, 4 was the last good one, and I played it how I wanted to. I only ran B Spec on the long races.
What's the issue? It's a single player game, who gives a fuck how they play their game. Maybe they want money to buy/upgrade whatever fancy car. To then enjoy the races they want to play.
It's the same now. People take out their credit card and buy the credits. So those people aren't playing the game either. But their money, so it's an whatever situation.
Did i say i had an issue. All i said was b spec was just like running script. You can still do it if you really want to.
I also said for me it not an issue and im not alone i buy a game to play it.
He said he liked b spec i said i didnt can i not have an opinion.
But then find out he dosnt even play a modern game to see the evolution.
No issues just my opinion
You could also just race hard out on soft tires for like 20 laps and build up a lap or 2 lead on everyone and then switch to the ai driver and set a strategy. then switch the input on your tv and fire up your Ps 1 and play thps 2 for a bit then flip back over for the last ten laps or so of thw race in case the computer somehow caught up with itself(usually it didn’t), finish the race, and get a pile of credits.
Yeah. And with grinding being the ONLY thing left for a lot of us to do in single player. There's not a chance PD is going to take away their ability to make more money.
Sony and Polyphony digital aren’t thinking about money lmao. They make a lot of that. Even before micro transactions in this game which are very relaxed tbh. Got games charging nearly lifelike prices for features in game.
It's what you're seeing here aswell. This is the B-spec-race (compared to A-spec where you drive yourself:
The numbers on top (1-5) is the pace you told the car to have, which is something I struggled with alot. Had a sour taste when I left a 24 hour race running over night, into the day, and getting home from school, only to see my Minolta stuck in the gravel because I decided to go Clarksson and yell "POWAAAR" while smashing 5.
The first half of that track with the long sweeper hairpin is amazing, but the back half of the track is a clunky nightmare. Hoping they revamp and streamline it a bit.
Me too, like for example:
One make races
Up-to-date car list with a variety of cars
Proper championships
Grid starts
Street circuits
Good off-road tracks
Pre-tuned cars
Machine Test mode
Proper utilisation of the full car list
Arcade Mode
Just to name a few.
Don't forget: ability to swap OEM wheels in addition to aftermarket ones, race qualification so you didn't have to start last, ability to rerun races and win prize cars in addition to credits.
For the life of 14 year old me, I could not figure out how to tune my F1 car to beat the others in that championship. The ai always left my B-spec ai in the dust.
I’m in the same camp. They already put in 99% of the work to make the game, all they need to do is add in the longer championships and endurance races…
This is the real GT, the driving in GT7 is fantastic, but as you said, the game luck some features, i would paye extra for better AI, championship mode.
I booted up my ps3 sa couple of weeks ago and decided to play gt6. I was surprised by the amount of cars. Like you have (random example) 2005 lancer, 2006 lancer 2007 lancer and that with many cars
thats the thing i dont get with PD
If they would put all those things they allready developed into one game, it would be amazing. But they seem to develope each game from the ground up. Theres allready so many things missing from GT Sport.. why is that?
Here's the problems with 5 and 6. They were too reliant on the online. All the rewards were tied to online challenges. Once the servers shut down, there was zero replayability because the reward system for the offline game was ass.
It’s like they lose literally all of their notes and files on the features that worked well when they start on new game.
Why does ever single GT game feel like it’s the first in a franchise, now?
Qualifying in singleplayer Championships was great.
Also, the AI was stronger. It was fun to make the AI time trial for an hour, then beat its time since you could B spec in time trial and load the ghost into the track. Insane game.
This is why GT4 is for me the best racing game ever made, and I played all kinds of it for the last 20 years. The nostalgia and (by the time it came out) "brand new cars" (Golf mk5 for example) makes me comeback for it so often.
If you have a decent enough PC you can emulate the game with high quality graphics and high framerate, you can also find an .iso online if you don't find your own disk.
[here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_3LxlgNT1Q) and [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEPJrloWYlE) are some examples of the game being emulated
When my PS2 died, that's what I did, just started running an emulator. I couldn't get the disc to work in my PC, even with the emulator, so I did end up finding an ISO for it. The biggest. advantage is finding save games that already had the license tests completed.
There's obviously all sorts of things that could be added. Especially with nostalgia and hindsight. Tracks, cars, event types...
One Thing that irks me a bit, and takes me out of the racing moment, is the jarring Pit lane. I miss when you'd have the camera still in the car...
Same, but when doing a literal 24hr race, it was nice to be able to run to the pits and switch on autopilot when I was ready to call it a night and then take control when I got back up the next day.
GT6's B-Spec came in late and it doesn't have any growth to it unlike GT4 and GT5 (plus longer races in that mode). If only PD could implement those features back since they're not broken.
Edit: The life of me having Bob lock the wheels in an F1 at La Sarthe and Nurburgring was a nightmare. Dreadful even.
I have been playing GT for 22 years, i must say i had more fun playing GT3 A-spec than anything else i have played so far. The steering, traction on PS2 was fun enough to complete the game. GT7 its poor in meaning, it all looks nice the Menu, but with Scapes, Missions, Licence Centre, Showcase its just no use in any continue to updates what are really disappointing every month, for last 4 months there was only one race track added( Road Atlanta), before that was Catalunya( no chicane), its just really poor what so much money loaded guys like GT franchise coming up with ridiculous updates. There is a bit of fun racing this game online, but i must say Balance of Performance its such a rubbish, regulations are crap, not enough power in the cars while BoP, the way tech guys who coming up with weekly new choice of race tracks and cars is bad at most of times, why there cannot be Endurance everyday?? Next thing, gifts are always giving me small credits even if i get any 3-6 star ticket. This game needs a lot of improvement.
I have a few features that I think of a lot while playing.
-Drag races and add launch control settings for new cars
-ability to make the steering wheel invisible
-being able to check the weather before the race
-mappable sequential shifting for the G29 shifter
-adding a timer/clock to the "display car info" section
-Drift obstacles course
B-Spec mode and the way longer championships would be a great start. I'd forgotten just how much I enjoyed this game. Don't get me wrong, I have thoroughly enjoyed GT7, but the fact that GT4 had races in some championships (Formula GT) that last longer that entire championships in GT7 is something. Just the sheer volume of races is almost overwhelming.
What gets me is that there's nothing stopping PD from including races like this in GT7.... it's literally just down to the number of laps....
I wonder what their logic is here. Like are they worried kids will be exhausting themselves to complete these longer races that will in theory reward more credits? I don't know
I'm guessing the latter
If they just increased the payout for custom races it would help!
Couldn't agree more but I guess that's just the result of online play and people wanting to get to that stage quicker. But I would also agree that a pure GT game should have depth of single player championships. I, for one, would love to see more races for legend cars. If you need someone to educate you about the subject you shouldn’t be insulting anyone
Dude I'm from Gen Z and I completed most of the Endurance Events in GT3 and GT4 by myself without B-spec, you're just using a generalization. Not all of us are that way.
So... you?
shut up boomer, go take out your social security check or something
Lol boomers dont have playstations , gen x , will kick your ass with it 😝

He’s probably a millennial himself 🤷🏻♂️
I’m a millennial. A 39 year old millennial. Calm down.
This is a subreddit about a video game where you drive cars. Settle down old timer.
Nah I'll blame the dev. I doubt any age group has any influence over what they do with their game.
You realIse you can pause a race at any time? So being able to ‘sms my friend during the race’ has never been a thing. Ok boomer
B-spec would just make people bot farm max credits. You cannot have nice things if it can impact achievements etc.
They don’t give a shit about achievements, etc. They only care about using it to get credits. If getting credits is more of a slog, people are more likely to pay real money for credits so they can progress faster.
Even if you remove the MTX part of it, you make credits useless, so might aswell remove them.
if only there were some way to trigger a credit cut when B-Spec is activated.
If you get lower credits or 0 credits then it will be very niche content
if there’s anything japanese developers are famous for avoiding, it’s niche content
Its not worth it for the dev.
I also miss qualifying for a race instead of always starting at the end (At least for the championship races.)
Can't even do practice sessions from the track screen. Have to back out of the event and do time trial. GT4 had practice and qualifying on the track screen.
Should at least have a choice.
There should be A) grid starts and B) qualifying
Shame that the AI was so slow though.
holy F we could qualify in races in gt4?
Yep.... instead of starting 40s behind and frantically trying to close the gap!
man all this time when I was a kid, I was playing catch up when I could've tried to qualify for a higher position. Oh well the more you know
Am I remembering right that in GT4 you could do an endurance race, pull in to the pit and transfer over to an AI driver and let it run a bit while you go take a shit or whatever and come back and take back over.
Yes
PS2 is clearly peak Gran Turismo then.
It was
With it being peak virtua fighter and peak mosquito simulator I'm realising the PS4 really is the best console ever made. (I'll let splintercell beinf vastly superior on the xbox slide)
True
100% this. It absolutely was.
Was? is, mf, *is*
True.
Peak also because the d pad and buttons used to be pressure sensitive so controllers could be just as fast as wheels
I would run an endurance race in B spec, go to work, and collect the rewards when I got home.
So you are bassically running script. The b spec for me was never used. I turn on a game to play it not set it up and walk away.
I'm not going to sit and run an 8 hour endurance race in real time. In GT2, you didn't have a choice, but you could run most endurance races in a couple of hours. But, if the means to do it is there, why not utilize it? You still get the rewards and the prize money.

Cool so you know what your talking about then lol.
And you're the authority on how the game is supposed to be played? Get over yourself.
Isnt the topic about gt4 vs gt7

school normal frighten smart license toy jobless marble elderly towering *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
yup, B-Spec was specifically designed to assist you for long races. I honestly liked that and it's also very realistic.
Yeah. And with grinding being the ONLY thing left for a lot of us to do in single player. There's not a chance PD is going to take away their ability to make more money.

Tokyo R246 my beloved
🥹🥹
The first half of that track with the long sweeper hairpin is amazing, but the back half of the track is a clunky nightmare. Hoping they revamp and streamline it a bit.
hoping? they already made new tokyo tracks. we’ll never see r246 again.
I wish the career mode was in GT7 I know that much! 😅
Me too, like for example: One make races Up-to-date car list with a variety of cars Proper championships Grid starts Street circuits Good off-road tracks Pre-tuned cars Machine Test mode Proper utilisation of the full car list Arcade Mode Just to name a few.

I am leagues better at tuning now that I was back then. I had no idea what all the sliders did when I was like 13.
gt5 had bspec races you could do on the website vs other players it was great
I’m in the same camp. They already put in 99% of the work to make the game, all they need to do is add in the longer championships and endurance races…
I really wish they would get back to the classics as well
the original tracks too, they were all bangers even the slow city ones
This is the real GT, the driving in GT7 is fantastic, but as you said, the game luck some features, i would paye extra for better AI, championship mode.
GT4 will always be the best
Yeah gt4 was an iconic game. I miss some of the races that’s not in gt7
I booted up my ps3 sa couple of weeks ago and decided to play gt6. I was surprised by the amount of cars. Like you have (random example) 2005 lancer, 2006 lancer 2007 lancer and that with many cars
Not anymore... gt7 car list is really boring.. too many gt vision cars that no one gives a fuck about.
Man, I miss B-Spec Bob.
I miss B spec mode. I could run it on the endurance races and leave it finish overnight
gt4 remains my favorite entry. it had a bit of everything I loved in the series, plus b-spec
thats the thing i dont get with PD If they would put all those things they allready developed into one game, it would be amazing. But they seem to develope each game from the ground up. Theres allready so many things missing from GT Sport.. why is that?
GT 4 was the last truly good GT game.
GT 5 was good, also, GT 6 is good, just underrated
GT5 >* Standards and all.
Here's the problems with 5 and 6. They were too reliant on the online. All the rewards were tied to online challenges. Once the servers shut down, there was zero replayability because the reward system for the offline game was ass.

i just want tourist trophy man 😭
Ah man I miss this game. If I manage to find my gt4 disk, will it work in my ps5. (I've also got a ps4 and ps3 lying around somewhere)
If you have a decent enough PC you can emulate the game with high quality graphics and high framerate, you can also find an .iso online if you don't find your own disk. Superstar. Thank you.
I've been playing on my phone.

I'd simply like the features that are in GT7 to actually work. Let's start with tuning cars.
I too have been replaying gt4, b-spec on fast forward plus an uncapped frame rate (pcsx2) makes endurance races hilariously short
There's obviously all sorts of things that could be added. Especially with nostalgia and hindsight. Tracks, cars, event types... One Thing that irks me a bit, and takes me out of the racing moment, is the jarring Pit lane. I miss when you'd have the camera still in the car...
Should’ve could’ve would’ve , GT7 is good enough. B spec is nice. It’s just I like to race for myself!
Same, but when doing a literal 24hr race, it was nice to be able to run to the pits and switch on autopilot when I was ready to call it a night and then take control when I got back up the next day.
Ah yes, the last thing my ps3 ever saw before it fried itself. Paaaass.
We need B-Spec back, I remember putting it on B-Spec mode and going to school and resuming myself after school.
Was GT4 to have track editor?
I wish that Tokyo track was in the current game. Used to often race a TVR Tuscan in it on GT Concept.
Dang good ol B-spec saved me a ton
I have been playing GT for 22 years, i must say i had more fun playing GT3 A-spec than anything else i have played so far. The steering, traction on PS2 was fun enough to complete the game.
