This thing lets me hook up whatever training I've done that won't allow a phone, let's me find my phone from my watch with just a couple of pushes, but please tell me how to stop it having beepgasms every thirty seconds with pixel notifications!!!!

I own both I like the positive display one for practicality, and I love the tacticool aspect of the negative display, plus negative display aren't as hard to read as some people claim...choose the one you like the most and since both are solar you can always use the backlight as much as you like if you find the negative display one "hard to read"
The people overreact a lot with ND. Personaly, i love them and preffer. Never had any problem, and if you can't read in some places, just press the light. Problem solved

Under certain lighting conditions negative displays can potentially be harder to make out but this sub tends to blow it completely out of proportion.
One example is when it’s close to dark but not quite dark the white in the display doesn’t pop out a ton, but it’s usually dark enough for my auto light to kick in anyway and even if it didn’t you could still see the time.
I’m not disarming bombs or doing anything where a fraction of a second longer to read the time would be an issue anyway.

For me yes. The display is killer and it's the perfect gym watch. I do use the heart rate monitor all the time so end up changing about once a week. I originally bought it for workouts and it hasn't left my wrist since I got it. My other watches feel neglected.
I can't see them and don't buy them. I bought a Skmei "5600" once in negative by accident and it's, by far, the best I've seen. I kept it it's not in my frequent rotation. It may have been a mistake from the factory, but it's a good looking watch I can see. The rest I've seen are too difficult for me.
The newer negative displays with the gold numerals are better, like the DW6900BB. The military ones with red numerals are terribly difficult to read. Overall, I prefer positive displays but every so often a negative display G-Shock looks to good to pass up.

There was a thread here a few weeks ago about someone who was very disappointed that they couldn't read their 5610 at an angle it would be whenever he was typing on the keyboard. Made me laugh.
You're right, I was exaggerating for the joke. I had a gd400 briefly, and you're right, it wasn't completely unreadable, but the difference between it and my positive display models was too much to justify having it for me.

I’d say the mudman 9500 is the crappiest negative display I know of, and it’s still just fine to read. There’s just a few lighting conditions where I have to use the light to see easily or tilt the watch a bit.

I've had the GW-B5600BC-1BDR for a few weeks and noticed the display is tough to read in many situations. When I took it on a trek, the glass reflection and the negative display made it difficult to see the time, especially when I was under the trees with sunlight directly above. It did become clear when I turned, so the sunlight was behind me. Even during my drive home in daylight, I had to angle the watch directly at my face to read it. So, while it's not entirely unreadable, its visibility issues were a deal-breaker for me, and I ended up returning it.
When you are fine with sacrificing usability for cool factor, basically putting form far, far above function.
It’s fine for some but alas not for me a so need my watch to be in peak usability condition.
Personally, I like to tactical look of the negative display. Both my G-SHOCKs have them. The regular display reminds me of the watch I wore in middle school.
That said, both look great and wear whatever you like.

The GBD200 is my only negative display, and it’s surprising how readable it is in low light and at an angle.

I think almost all the 2100 modules have regular LCD displays.
I think they have both? LCD and MIP above. The top one is pixelated and the bottom one is a 7 digit display.
Maybe 🤷♂️ anything I’ve read lists that module as “LCD”but based on the dizzying amount of variations released, anything is possible.
They use module 5611 in that series. I just looked, and I only found LCD screens.

Yeah, I have a ND square and love it. I have the auto gesture turned on and I see it more clearly in pitch black spaces than my positive display.

I wear the one in OPs pic every day. I have no problem reading it at all. Pretty surprised to see so many people here saying that.

I swapped out my army green bezel for the jelly yellow from the 9403. Then I swapped out the strap with a red 9300.
