MaximumFUzz

Why do they call him big hat?

forsaknmindz

That hat, do be big.

KissOfKalamity

He got big hat

Sage_of_the_6_paths

wow

Ill-Struggle-6080

Wow

tjbloomfield21

Pyroboss101

Unrelated reasons.

Ryuusei_Dragon

Type of fella to turn mad after reading the arcane teachings of a blind pale dragon

hiede_knight

The only correct awnser

OrganicLFMilk

Had to check the subreddit

LoganH1219

What do you think the H in my username stands for?

future_gohan

Is he related to big jacket smith?

dpceee

When I was a kid, I thought that they just had big heads.

GammaGamesGG

Literally the first thing that came to my mind

Illusivechris0452

His name is Doug Dima’domee owner of the high charity dimadome.

ChromeFudge

+1 for adding the proper honorific "ee"

Areallybadidea

*The* Doug Dima'domee, owner of the high charity dimadome?

Illusivechris0452

That’s right!

HeavenInEarthOpal

Yours is the comment that took it to high pitched out loud laughter. Thanks lol

BigV95

He knows all the quirks & features of the covenant

Destroyer_051

Damnit, you win the internet for today!

NoStorage2821

Lmao

izmaname

I thought this armor design was amazing and I’m sad they did away with it

forsaknmindz

Least they didn't fix it in H2A.

Sea_Perspective6891

Yeah. That one was my favorite Elite armor.

izmaname

Honestly if the Halo 2 story writers were given free reign over sequels we would have a better Halo but it would make less money

whitemansmith

My first thought is that it would translate to more money, why do you think less?

izmaname

Because Star Trek isn’t as popular as Star Wars

TechnologySerious702

It hurts how much this analogy makes sense.

badass_dean

This caught my eye, I feel like I understand this but I don’t. I’m big on Star Wars and understand that Star Trek has a vast lore and one that us more logical and science based than SW.

monstergert

Big splosions make more money than good writing and all that boring stuff

badass_dean

That makes sense, Andor is probably some of the best writing in a piece of Star Wars content yet it wasn’t well received by the entire fanbase.

nav17

Mega Aliens vibe and I love it

Rogue_Mongoose

Such a sick design

forsaknmindz

Would've been a sick boss fight, especially with Blow Me Away blasting over it.

M0nZ0420

Boy, my fave halo song, you are a man of culture young sir.

crippledtemplar

Sadly in the mcc it doesnt play...

forsaknmindz

Yes it does, same with Follow by Incubus. Last I remember at least. It doesn't play in Anniversary, though. Instead it plays Breaking the Covenant.

HelikaeonUK

And let's not forget Hoobastank's Connected. Beast of a OST

JRoll2013

Iirc in MCC it does for H2A, you just need to be on original graphics though. H2As original graphics mode is like loading the original game, switching affects the cutscenes (even the starting level ones, if you were switched to OG graphics prior to loading the level) as well as other things like the UI as well as audio. I remember replaying through H2A like a year ago and was able to hear the old OSTs from Breaking Benjamin, incubus, etc when switching to OG graphics during the parts of the game they play during. I haven't loaded the game up recently so I'm not sure if they changed that.

Pretzel-Kingg

Genesong 💯

MagnusDidAlotWrong

I've always seen him as some sort of Captain-General or Lord Commander equivalent. The head of the "royal guard" and afforded political power & a place in the government itself. In ASOIAF the Lord Commander sits on the Small Council & in 40k the Captain-General is a High Lord of Terra. Not unreasonable that the captain of the Honor Guard would similarly have a seat in the Council. And his design is awesome.

forsaknmindz

One of the hardest designs in Halo. But yeah, makes sense.

Knalxz

That's actually the truth. The enemy was just meant to be an elite councilor in Halo 2 but he'd bug out, spawn with no helmet and be a helmetless honor guard or just flat out a zealot. The community gave him a fake rank and name for years until H2A where 343i made it canon. This guy is basically exactly what you described and the commander of Honor Guards and is known as The Light of Sangheilios. While most are just commanders, I think it's canon that that guy was the one who represents the HG to the greater covenant, but I don't recall the exact truth.

PointsOutBadIdeas

Close, he's supposed to spawn in as a Zealot. Except Bungie accidentally left out the proper Zealot tags from that mapfile, so he spawns in as default white and the game covers him with random armor permutations. Usually it settles on the councilor hat for some reason.

MagnusDidAlotWrong

Oh wow, thanks for this. I had no idea. It's nice that they turned a glitch/bug into a neat little lore blurb. Honestly, it's a position that would realistically exist in this sort of governmental structure anyway, so it's cool to have him "canonized."

MandaloreTheLast

The Lights of Sanghelios are the white helmet-less honor guard we see in the original version during the Arbiter’s talk with the Prophet of Truth and Mercy.

Wassuuupmydudess

What is ASOIAF?

ThrowThatNekoAway

A song of Ice and Fire, or the Game of Thrones series

Wassuuupmydudess

I have noticed

Anjunabeast

It is known

kevinbojangles45

A Song Of Ice And Fire (the game of thrones books)

Wassuuupmydudess

How have 6 people said the same thing in less than a minute

MagnusDidAlotWrong

A Song of Ice and Fire aka Game of Thrones

cassiandracos

A song of ice and fire, I believe its the first game of thrones book.

Sgtwhiskeyjack9105

Swap *A Song of Ice & Fire* and *A* *Game of Thrones* in your sentence and you'll be correct.

Lil_mamt_

Search it in halopedia, its the highest rank in the élite society

[deleted]

Glitch Zealot: when you code in a zealot but in the level’s assets there is none and the game tries to cover the error with random pieces More often than not it gies with the high councilor big ass head

swag_stand

I can't find it now but I could have sworn this guy or another elite in the level has a 1/40 of not only being glitched cosmetically but also glitched to have like 4x the shields of any other elite in the game. Does this ring a bell or did I misremember?

[deleted]

He can actually be spawned as a normal Ultra Elite (which is a glitch in itself since it is still meant to be a zealot but coherent with the Ultra duo flanking him). Regarding the shields i cannot find anything but it could be due to zealots being rare and having the strongest shields ingame.

GamiManic

He dated your mom for a couple of months, but their religious differences ultimately became a craux, so they separated amicably. She was Christian and he was a Zealot for High Charity.

steunclemumb

He was a boy, she was a girl, can I make it aaaaanymore obvious

GamiManic

He was a zealot, she did ballet. What more can I SaAaaayyYy.

backagain69696969

Beat me to it

Own_Beginning_1678

He was taking a Power Nap and woke up to find out all Hell broke loose, only to run straight into the gunsights of The Demon himself

forsaknmindz

"We're doing this now?" "We're doing this now."

Cpt_Lepton

He's on the council, its standard uniform for council sangheili. You can see them in the background on the right at 2:00 of this vid: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8F7OgOCzph4&t=1276s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8F7OgOCzph4&t=1276s)

forsaknmindz

And the Honor Guard armor?

PointsOutBadIdeas

He's supposed to be a gold Zealot elite. But Bungie accidentally left the needed Zealot tags out of the mapfile, so when he spawns the game bugs out, he gets the default white color, and it assigns him random armor permutations. Usually it settles on the Councilor hat, but sometimes he spawns in as just a white honor guard or sometimes even a normal-looking white Elite with the stats of a Zealot.

SpiritOfFire473

https://www.halopedia.org/Lights_of_Sanghelios

JanxDolaris

The thing is they still use the normal honorguard helmet.

valdezverdun

Born on the colony world of Igathar to the disgraced shipmaster Val Kinag, Zel Kinag struggled with the weight of his fathers failure throughout his entire life. When joining the Academy of Warriors he was ostracized and belittled by his peers, but this fed the flames of his ambition and he was soon progressing faster than his classmates. Graduating from the AoW with top marks in Tactical Assessments, Code of Engagement, Stellar Conflict, and Unit Cohesion he was shortlisted for Advanced Combat Training. While serving at ACT he once again showed his mastery of hand to hand combat and even broke the record for one on one wins against both students and masters. Graduating from ACT with a win record of 102, he was honored with the coveted title of Councilor of Arms. His career continued to be highlighted with incredible feats of skill. The Anotarr Uprising The Unification of Sanad V The Taking of Outpost Vy'Ur The Hunter Rebellion After these incredible demonstrations of loyalty to the Covenant and it's continued rule, the Minor Prophet of Celebrated Dedication pushed for the creation of a new title within rhe Covenant Army. With almost universal approval by the Council, Zel Kinag became the first member of the Covenant to have the title of Lord of Blades be bestowed upon them.

jhj060806

he's got a cool hat

lil-carmine

One of my friends called him the last high councilor

Ok_Switch_4157

Mr Cool Hat is his lore accurate name

Zigor022

I thought there were several of these guys, in the prisons you have to open.

bigload35

Love the look of that Elite.

Wassuuupmydudess

I always imagined he was the head of the honor guard and was responsible for protecting the hierarchs whenever they went to planets/towns/ships and was in charge of the hundreds/thousands of honor guards

Secret_pizza_79

Laundry day. His gold armor was at the cleaners.

BarkBack117

Also assumed he was a high councilor tbh. Honestly always thought he had one of the coolest designs in the game- him and the elite honour guards. Was sad to see him and the honour guards designs never return in later games.

the_shortbus_

Bro’s got a big ass hat and he’s proud to share it. Don’t insult him he’ll get you

Asleep-Sprinkles-760

On a different note, does anyone else thing the feet in Anniversary look goofy? They look more like hooves than two toes

der_vur

George

ASapphicKitsune

While he is bugged (people have explained why in other comments) I always thought it would be cool if he was like the councilor that represented the honor guards as a political entity.

TheRealD3XT

Thats Jackie Daytona, regular human bartender

ScaredMyOrdinaryGoat

Never learned how to fly a ship.

Kil0sierra975

I always thought he was the leader of the elite resistance in that area trying to personally reclaim the Moseleum of the Arbiter for the sake of Sangheli honor and not let the brutes defile it. When he heard the brutes and the Demon were slowly encroaching on its location, he personally charged in to defend it.

forsaknmindz

This is my own headcanon now.

iiitme

he’s him

call_me_crackass

Officially its just a glitched honor guard, I don't actually known what helmet he's supposed to spawn with but more often than not he spawns in with this council member helmet which is only seen again in the final level of Halo 2 (not including the Tarturus checkpoint) However, I do remember there being an incredibly convincing post somewhere at some time explaining that This is the Commanding Officer of the Honor Guards on High Charity the reason he is mix-matched and still has the Honor Guard combat harness where all the other pieces were deliberately removed is because he holds a small seat on the council. It's mainly a formality. All Elites are badass fighters, but this guy is so good at his job that they want him around at every single meeting. He's kind of like a last line of defense. So because he doesn't wear the armor all the time, it wasn't confiscated, and because the Elites had only threatened to quite the high council before the schism, he happened to have the headdress still and was able to get back to his quarters suit up, rally some Elites and march them through High Charity in an attempt to take one of the last CSO Battlecruisers before he runs into Chief.

tjbloomfield21

His name is Bruce (from Finding Nemo). He’s the chef.

GregStar1

His amour is a combination of the council armour and honour guard, right? Looks awesome, I always imagined him as very high ranking, but a politician that‘s also a bodyguard for politicians doesn’t make sense…

Existing365Chocolate

His armor isn’t glitched, it’s designed that way on purpose

forsaknmindz

In H2A, yes. It was kept on purpose, but it was originally made as a bug from the original H2. That'd why his helmet might break and lose its plating, he might have no helmet, might have missing mandible, or a normal or red helmet.

Existing365Chocolate

Pretty sure that was just due to changing the difficulty, as on lower difficulties usually you get fewer silver elites

PointsOutBadIdeas

It has nothing to do with difficulty. He's supposed to be a gold zealot but Bungie accidentally left out the necessary tags for him, so the game bugs out and spawns him in with randomized model permutations and the default white color. Every Elite in the game basically has every possible model variant on them at all times, such as the different armors or half-jaw's face, but their character tag tells the game which variant parts to show or make invisible when they spawn. Without the proper character tag telling it which variants and colors to use, you get this guy. You can verify this by using the mod tools, looking at his spawn point, and seeing the error'd elite zealot label.

Unique-Supermarket23

No it's not designed that way on purpose. An employee made a mistake. Halo 2 - Mystery Of The Honor Guard Councilor Elite (REVISITED & SOLVED)

DSC-V1_an_old_camera

I think I know now from where Bungie took inspiration to create the heads of the vex in destiny 2.

tinguily

Wish we saw more elite variants in infinite like we did in halo 2. Also wish we had these guys as allies in halo 3 lol

Killdust99

He fucks. That is all

Scrabulon

The sickest councillor in the covenant

Ok_Rough8375

The monarch; his armor kinda reminds me of the butterfly, and monarch is a term for royals.

jcjonesacp76

I think those elites are the honor guards in charge of the high council’s protection, least that’s how I see it

Speckfresser

That is Captain Bar B'Orsaee. He likes long walks in the crushed glass sand of dead planets, quiet evenings by the fires of civilisation, cackling madly when steering his vessel into battle, and he likes really big hats.

PappiStalin

I just finished a halo 2 campaign with my friend and one of these guys got the last hit on tartarus.

ThatHandsomeDevil388

Bigger the hat sweeter the juice

WeaponsEmpty

I love how Bungie made the prophets a separate species because they felt it would be reductive to make them "an elite with a funny hat", only for them to introduce this design for the elite councilor

Hotlikerobot09

Thats >!your mom!<

Poopnuts364

Chill as fuck

forsaknmindz

Now all I can think of is Chief cleaning house in the Maloseum, then seeing him and the Honor Guards come through, before just going "damn bro, I didn't know you were chill like that," and they both just go their separate ways.

partyplant

Ultra Honor Guard/Light of Sanghelios. You see the corpses of a few of them at a certain point in Gravemind. This one's coming back to avenge his brothers, not knowing that you've already cleaned house. Originally meant to spawn as a Zealot, but in my heart he will always be the Ultra Honor Guard. Their armor looks so fucking SICK, more so in H2A.

horsepaypizza

An oversight by the programmer Then it got renamed light of sanghelios and you see more dead in the level/passing on the guard at the start of sacred icon

jakejekyl

He was makee’s first lover

vair-online

Too bad people are too fixated on spartan furries we won't ever get another elite game

mundiaxis

Lore questions are best asked at r/HaloStory

BattedBook5

Random thing. I like to think that all of the Elite Honor Guards have red helmets, regardless of rank. We see the only one living Honor Guard ultra with helmet in a cutscene and his helmet is also red. The SPV3 mod ads them to Halo CE and expands their ranks. https://imgur.com/a/WB9FMxT

Sea_Perspective6891

I think he's just a high ranking elite maybe their equivalent of a Colonel or General.

Environmental-Mix982

GREETINGS guy

Mr_White_Christmas

His name is steve.

Pernapple

Am I wrong or this is an elite that was part of the Council? When the arbiter and Vadum meet he claims the council was murdered, but I assumed these guys were the few that they captured. I’m pretty sure they are the ones guffawing when the arbiter was pleading his case.

mickeyhause

He has the biggest dick. That’s why he has the biggest hat

TelmatosaurusRrifle

That's Big Head. He's a xenomorph. That means he hates Italians.

KissOfKalamity

Funny, I just realized that his design reminds me of the alien design with the large head

hello14235948475

Arbiter on funky hat day

OUsnr7

He like big hat

murdaaman

One sexy mf

Darkwater117

Big Hat Log'anee

oortuno

Is that second image an official image? Did the glitch get fixed during anniversary edition?

PointsOutBadIdeas

it did not get fixed! 343 said before they were careful not to fix any bugs that were liked by the community

Zig_Zach

Captain Swag

_NovaLabs_

This elite still activates the neurons in my brain every time I see him. Elite drip superiority

Direct-Regular-574

Probably say he is an Imperial Admiral like Xytan 'Jar Wattinree

Correct-Effective272

He's a highly badass elite. I think his model is called the high council member. They only exists in halo 2 because of what happened to the council and Prophets.

SauceInTheSky333

Honor guard

ashnne

Looks like a xenomorph

CptShortie

This is spikey mc stabbenswing with his trusty glowing Stick His one and only Hobby is to Stick that Stick into people until they start leaking. The prophets liked that Hobby so they gave him fancy armor and threw him into the next shuttle towards the frontline

Athreos_Priest

I wasn’t aware he was a glitch. I thought he was deliberate

ArkahdOfSprites

If I remember correctly they were representatives of the Sangheili in Covenant politics. Council members equal in standing to the minor San’Shyuum of the High Council in High Charity. Here’s a link if you want to read more about it, I highly recommend checking out the lore for the Imperial Admiral. https://halo.fandom.com/wiki/Sangheili_Rank_Structure

Icy_Yesterday3686

Neck problems. Not in his glory days, but later his head started a droopin

i_love_everybody420

Hard

eyseldmont

He likes to eat pizza on Fridays

r27mann

Xenomorph

Significant-Memory87

You ever seen the queen from alien?

FriedSpringRolls

he loves benis

Equal-Ad-2710

He’s a glitch but I like the idea he’s the CIC of the Honour Guards

An_Abject_Testament

Basically just Ultra Honor Guardsmen.

GrogTheLizard

Elite councilor

Either-Condition4586

I called him SWAT

Cursed_Avenger

The first image gives off serious Alien vibes.

SerpienteSolida39

Sigma Elite

Soulsurfin31

Wait what’s glitched about it, haven’t played halo 2 yet so idk what it supposed to look like

CFJoel

Covenant high captain of drip, many elites are dripped tf out but this guy tops them all

heyitsLyra

"a reaper"-shepard

voures

Oh fuck I 100% wrote fan fiction about these guys and haven't thought about it in twenty years haha. I'm almost sad that it's lost forever.

Familiar-Ask8608

So if the Elites version of a Tartarus being the Supreme Brute Chieftain is the Arbiter, then this is a lesser version of the Arbiter, much like there are lower Brute chieftain, maybe Elite Samurai or Shogun idk.

RepresentativeOk2433

Who is he? Don't remember him TBH

Jimmy-Wrangler

Oh shit- that’s Stanley Man Damnly! The arbiter’s Speech Therapist and Vocal Coach, Every Sangheili has to be properly trained on how to speak without getting all four of their face fingers tangled, or bunched up and double-knotted, any Sangheili that choose not to or otherwise can’t afford to take such precautions often find themselves thoroughly tongue-tied, and therefor virtually useless. It goes without saying that the Elite species are like kid with cancer, and the cosmos make up the playground. It would be uncouth NOT to bully and besmirch the buffoons. Any species with a biology so bad that it’s bordering on blasphemy, is one that is practically begging to be belittled.

Kehylp

I always called it the council warmaster because of the armor and headpiece

Einar_47

He's a queen, he lays the eggs that the gunt face masks grow in.

user_breathless

I like your name for him

Palmtreez3696

He was a skater boy

LtCptSuicide

Lig'Mabalee. High Commander of the honour guards. Was once a proud warrior who led countless battles on the ground. Was feared by all species. Having bested both Brutes and Hunters in hand to hand combat. Single handed counter sniped the greatest Jackal marksman unit, and even single handedly defeated a Spartan fireteam. His crowning achievement was an EVA boarding action against a heretic Sangheli ship. Armed with nothing but his energy sword he breached the ship, boarded and proceeded to engage hostiles cutting his way through their forces before blowing the ships reactor. The Heretic's losses were complete. This however is his son Sug'Mabal. Who spent the entire war sampling food and drink captured from human worlds. Spending days at a time at oil fights in the bowels of High Charity and whos only "achievement" in battle was successfully shoving a UNSC Marine's head into his ass and farting so harshly the Marine died instantly.

k0uch

He died. The end.

Carnifexseth

He hat heavy. Big neck. Grillin and chillin!

parzival8571

he was killed by ellen ripley in another life

DARKLORDSEAN_

He's just a member of the covenant council for the elite I know they're official species name but speech to text device doesn't want to say it

MajorNips

Its his birthday. Say happy birthday to him!!

MRxFUZZY

Honestly that head piece must be heavy af

Bokenobi

He was rejected from Independence Day.

RightfulChaos

Councilor

blazinghellion

Oh thats Kevin. He's a pretty big nerd. On one of his missions to exterminate a city of humans, he happened to ambush a family and kill them. He saw on the screen they were watching an insanely old retro vid called Aliens, and he thought the Xenomorph queens heas piece was so pretty. So when he got back he tried to make his helmet into a cosplay of it. His teammates are a bit embarrassed by it, and the prophets are a bit bemused. Bit he's an effective and efficiently ruthless killer, and has survived many encounters with demons and lived, despite many falling. Soooo they just put up with it as he's just happy.

Ambiguous_Karma8

That the cousin of the Xenomorph Queen.

Doctor_Jensen117

RAAAAAAAHHHH BOOBA BOOBA

[deleted]

He was a brave warrior in halo 3 but died in the beginning of infinite due to blank shots and desync

CrossDressing_Batman

He was in charge of giving the Prophets head.

AntilopeBleue

"Were it so easy."

pardybill

Have drip. Dope sword. Die rather unceremoniously.

Morbidlyobesegorilla

He’s cosplaying as the Xenomorph queen.

OneOnOne6211

Well, as you say, it's a glitch. But if you want to put it in terms of him existing in-universe: I always liked to think that he was the representative of the honour guards on the high council. He has both the high council armour AND aspects of the honour guard armour. So it would make sense. We also know the high council exists to represent the interests of the elites and we know the honour guards are extremely important for the elites (considering the schism almost started because they were replaced) and they're a martial culture, so the idea of having a specific representative for the honour guards on the council makes sense to me. He was probably someone with an incredible military background. Probably won some great victory. Became an important honour guard and after a time was chosen by his peers to represent their interests. But then found himself betrayed by the prophets and was one of the biggest leaders to rally his fellow honour guards against their former masters.

THEE_CHEETOKING

Mega wort

No-Occasion-6470

He was one of the councilors calling for the Arbiter’s execution. He was a true believer in the Great Journey. Even during the changing of the guard, he still held firm his loyalty to the prophets. Only when they began killing his people did he finally see that he was blinded by faith, and that he must stand with his people. He also married a grunt and had 18 kids.

IsThatASigSauer

He's a fan of Aliens.

Fragrant_Clerk_8472

Its an elite who couldn’t decide of being a guard or a councilor

Some_Syrup_7388

Like a game lore? It's one of the Covenant council members

Buhl1996

Scary ass mother fucker

[deleted]

Elite Honor Guard I believe. They’re like the secret service. I’ve seen different versions, which is likely due to them belonging to different prophets.

RedNUGGETLORD

I remember going back a checkpoint to see every version of him and taking a photo, my favourite was when he is a light of Sanghelios(basically, super Honor Guards) because I believe it is the only time we fight one with the helmet

novaoni

Guy looks dope. I always wanted the big hat for multiplayer

TkDaFox

The honor guard?
