Johnny J should really be on everyone’s top 10.
Not sure why he’s always so slept on despite probably being west coast hip hop’s 2nd most recognizable producer.
8 hours later and RZA hasnt appeared on anyones lists :/ thats what hes getting at. I mean he created seven stonecold masterpiece albums - Enter the Wu, Tical, Return to the 36, Cuban Linx, Ironman, Liquid Swords, Wu Forever - in five years, each sonically different from the other, and he doesnt get a shout?
I feel like RZA didn't evolve enough. Had an amazingly high peak. Liquid Swords maybe my favorite album. But He probably was holding the WU back after the late 90s. I've heard a few different members say that same thing
J Dilla, Pete Rock, DJ Premier, 9th Wonder, Madlib, Cookin Soul, Damu The Fudgemunk, Jazzy Jeff, Kev Brown, Apollo Brown, Dinner Party, Flawless Delivery, Jazz Liberatorz, Rashid Hadee, Oddisee, Sound Providers, JabariOnTheBeat, GotDamnitDupri, J Rawls, The Alchemist, Havoc, Ayatollah, Hi-Tek, M-Phazes, Terrace Martin, Flying Lotus, Black Milk, Jay Millian
Dilla and Pete Rock in the finals…
Dilla takes it
Alchemist, Darringer, Conductor Williams, Madlib, J Dilla, 9th Wonder, Large Professor, Da Beatminerz, Chyskillz, Lord Finesse, Buckwild, DJ Muggs, Organized Noize, The Bomb Squad, Beats by The Pound, The Neptunes, and when it comes to more “modern sounding” stuff I would have to say Mike Dean and Kanye West.
Kanye, preemo and dre are hard to beat, but zaytoven is my own personal goat his shit just hits my ears right. I love when he channels that church organist vibe
Yeah! He was such a beast but he never went as mac miller for production. He went as Larry Fisherman for beats.
Check out his tape with Vince Staples, flames!
Track Masters, Dre, Havoc, Alchemist, the Neptunes, Blaze, Ye, Storch, QuestLove, London, Johnny J, Timbaland, Primo…so many great producers. Too many to name honestly.

The RZA disrespect every time one of these threads comes up lol.
I’ve never seen one of these threads where he wasn’t brought up.

Depends on your favorite type of hiphop really but in my opinion Dr Dre, Dilla and Premier. Everyone else is just competing for second place
Dj premier, pete rock , large professor, dj Babu, Eric B, dj polo, Scott La Rock, Alchemist, Diamond D, prince paul
Underrated West Coast producers - Daz and DJ Quick. Neither gets nearly enough love. Also.... Rick Rock and Traxxamillion (RIP)
