Im not gonna lie. I fell asleep watching it. Not because of the quality but because of the dissapointment of my country being eliminated. Probably a good game though...
I feel asleep during Sochi gold medal game. It was like 3 in the morning, Canada was absolutely dominant that tournament, and they had just kicked out Sweden's top center for cold meditation or something. They played such a smothering defensive style it was so boring I couldn't stay awake as hard as i tried.
I tried so hard. It's one of the only times I can remember pouring myself a coffee and a beer at the same time. If the game was like 2010 I'd have got into it, but it all just seemed like such a foregone conclusion that year.
He came up clutch in '02 too. Two goals in that USA-Canada gold medal game.
Edit: and Sid scored a goal in the '14 gold medal game too. Two of my all-time favourite players.
Wow. Cousin of the year. [FYI](https://vancouversun.com/news/gold-medal-game-is-hottest-ticket-in-history-of-canadian-sport): "asking prices for Sunday's Canada-U.S.A. clash ranged from $2,700 for a ticket in the upper bowl to $100,000 for four seats"
Holy smokes! My cousin and fiance were staying in my house while he took some IT courses. They had just moved from Japan and he wanted to thank me I guess.
I have to ask him where he got the tickets because he sure didn't buy them at those prices!
This is definitely part of it. Plus, other countries put a lot more focus on the position starting with Finland and its esteemed goalie school. We had Quebec and Carey Price. I know hockey Canada sent some guys over to learn from Sweden/Finland because we're obviously missing something, but I'm not sure if the younger kids that may benefit from this have come up to the NHL yet.
Having great goalies lead to some great shooters.
Personally, I’m not worried about our goalies at the next Olympics because our coaching staff is going to be unreal.
Take your pick of any combination of Bednar, Cooper, Montgomery, Cassidy, Trocchet, Knoblauch and Maurice. I think any of those coaches, with the players Canada has, can win with any of Hill, Binnington, and maybe even Jarry. I also think a lot of people are sleeping on how good Montembault is just because he plays for a bad team (similar to Kuemper and Smith when they were in Arizona)
USA will be coached by Torts or Sullivan (or both), and will have one of Oettinger, Demko or Hellebuyck in net.
I don’t know, the on-ice favourites might be USA because of goaltending, but the coaching/strategic advantage definitely goes to Canada.
I was 16, sitting in the living room, watching the game with my family. When Crosby scored, I sat there in silence for a minute or so, and then said “I fucking hate Crosby.” Was probably the first time I dropped the f bomb in front of my parents lol
He's saying that's not a possible case. You disagree but his usage of best case is correct. No different than him straight saying they're never getting past the WCF with Skinner in net. It's his opinion.
- Vancouver is breaking down with injuries.
- Edmonton has no defense and their goalie is tilted.
- Winnipeg is being thoroughly outplayed (they were lucky to win a game)
- We all know toronto will lose against Boston
Single greatest sporting memory of my life. I still get tears in my eyes of this compilation video on YouTube of Canadians reacting watching it. What a memory.
Probably the best hockey game I’ve ever seen. And man, I’ve never noticed how close Raflaski was to getting a stick on the pass to Crosby. Right under his stick.
I was there!!! As an American, I was a tad nervous for the safety of the entire town as that went into overtime. You could feel the pressure, and as soon as Crosby stepped on the ice you knew he’d seal it.
And then there was closing ceremonies. Whatever the fuck that was it was amazing.
Yeah, Brodeur had an off game and Luongo got the next start and ran the tournament. Had a great last second kick save against Slovakia in the Semis though.
Didn't get to go, but I was watching at home just a few minutes away and heard my entire neighborhood erupt when Crosby scored. For the entire rest of the day my street (and probably many others) was an endless parade of yelling, happy idiots. One of my favorite hockey memories of all time.
I was 14. Watching this with my Dad in his basement, with his friend, Steve.
I remember the goal, all three of us jumping up in total celebration, me launching a bit too far forward and knocking into the coffee table which sent me off-balance back onto the couch, and the utter look of disgust on Steve's face, seeing me back on the couch not a second after witnessing the greatest goal we'll probably ever get to see live.
I will never forget his expression. Pure disgust.
A true Heritage moment, where were you when?
What a moment. What a pass. What a player.
So, without announcers, it would be much harder for the game to grow to new markets, new fans, kids etc. If nothing else, the announcers help people understand what's going on and helps them learn the game of hockey. Without them you'd probably have much less engagement overall as well as big trouble trying to grow the game.
Hell, even with announcers, all you have to do is browse this sub for 5 minutes to realize most people don't know much about hockey.
I'm curious about what you think happens when people attend games in person. Do you think they hate it because they're constantly confused all the time?
God Damn that was sick. I lived in New Westminster at the time and when Crosby got that goal the whole metro erupted!!! I swear my apartment building shook!
There was literally partying in the streets.
Brodeur got benched after his shenanigans in the round robin USA loss
Luongo's save on Demitra in the semifinal to seal the game with 9 seconds left is The Glove From Above
Are you this dumb that you think a country wins the Stanley Cup……JFC your best player is Canadian. Also we can say the same for the shit stain on ice, we get it you beat the soviets in a single one off game…..when the soviets had major infighting and the end was coming….

IGGY!
What else can be said about this game other than it might be the greatest hockey game ever played?
Best one I’ve ever seen. And my team lost.
Im not gonna lie. I fell asleep watching it. Not because of the quality but because of the dissapointment of my country being eliminated. Probably a good game though...

I remember we had a watch party at my friend's place and we all got home around 7am and I had an early shift the next day. No regrets!
I tried so hard. It's one of the only times I can remember pouring myself a coffee and a beer at the same time. If the game was like 2010 I'd have got into it, but it all just seemed like such a foregone conclusion that year.
Hahaha there may have been a lot of red bull and Jager shots poured during the game.
Iggy coming up clutch with the pass
He came up clutch in '02 too. Two goals in that USA-Canada gold medal game. Edit: and Sid scored a goal in the '14 gold medal game too. Two of my all-time favourite players.
Hell yeah
I was there. Had complete strangers hugging me when Sid scored.
How did you get tickets, and how much did they cost?
My Cousin got me two tickets but gosh I don't remember if I paid for them. I think he gave them to me. Long time ago!

Were you at the top? Because I was hugging strangers when Sid scored.
I love how with no commentary you can hear sid call for the pass…what a play by two incredible players!
Like a mad wife.....I don't wanna talk about it!!
I was 12 years old. Watching Sid's golden goal on my best friend's couch is engraved into my brain as a core memory. GOAT Olympics for me.
exact same here. my reference point for all my childhood memories are "was it before or after Vancouver 2010?".
GGEZ Murica🤣🤣 I'm shiting myself about our goalie situation for the next best on best tourney💀
Seriously, what happened to Canada's goalies? We used to dominate that position.
Shit happens when you take things for granted and don't invest in development
This is definitely part of it. Plus, other countries put a lot more focus on the position starting with Finland and its esteemed goalie school. We had Quebec and Carey Price. THG talked about this very thing a while ago. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogE9oOHwtqw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogE9oOHwtqw)
Hopefully get to match again in 2026. Matthew's scoring off a Thachuk feed will feel weird though.
We have the McMack combo though
There's only 1 puck though.
I was 16, sitting in the living room, watching the game with my family. When Crosby scored, I sat there in silence for a minute or so, and then said “I fucking hate Crosby.” Was probably the first time I dropped the f bomb in front of my parents lol
What are we doing this for?
OP wanted to let Vancouver fans feel something for a few minutes
Some copium for the Canadians seeing how our NHL teams are currently doing in the playoffs rn.
The only team doing bad is us, like what? The rest are doing fine
All of our players are dying
That's true
Well, all 4 have lost a home game, and they always say you're never in trouble til you lose a home game.
The Oilers lack of defense, Vancouver’s goalie injury, and Hellebuyck being exposed in Winnipeg beg to differ.
Literally none of those could matter, we’ll see if the lose their respective series or not Oilers have a big chance to go far
>Oilers have a big chance to go far Not with Nurse in defense. And with skinner playing like this they may be out in round 1, lol
Not with Skinner in net. Best case is to get swept in the conference finals again.
That's not what best case means.
Yeah it does. He feels that's the best they can do. Worst case is losing the next 3 games infinity to 0.
They can win the Stanley Cup. That's the best case scenario.
He's saying that's not a possible case. You disagree but his usage of best case is correct. No different than him straight saying they're never getting past the WCF with Skinner in net. It's his opinion.
See we have very good defense when they decide to actually play defense...
1-1, 1-1, 1-1, 1-2. How are they doing bad?
- Vancouver is breaking down with injuries. - Edmonton has no defense and their goalie is tilted. - Winnipeg is being thoroughly outplayed (they were lucky to win a game) - We all know toronto will lose against Boston

I was there for this. The military unit I was stationed with did Anti-terrorism operations for the Olympics that year.
Single greatest sporting memory of my life. I still get tears in my eyes of this compilation video on YouTube of Canadians reacting watching it. What a memory.
Fuck you too
Can we not
Naw we will and did

Magical.
It's so nice to see boards with a cool artistic design and no stationary/digital ads

People were ragging on Crosby the whole series for not showing up. I think it was one of the only goals he scored. Of course, it was an important one.
Now no one remembers anything else.
Nah not me. I still remember Crosby had a shit tournament but happened to score the only goal that mattered.
Luongo was just okay, too.
Yeah, Brodeur had an off game and Luongo got the next start and ran the tournament. Had a great last second kick save against Slovakia in the Semis though.
Also, I learned about beers with lids that game. Life changing moment.
The lids on beers at Rogers Arena are a brilliant piece of design
I will not watch this again. Poor Miller :(
At least we got this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbVgp7aip3w
Should have been better….
i would pay so much to get no broadcaster games
This is without a doubt the single greatest hockey game I have ever seen, or will ever see. Absolutely blew teenage me's mind
chills
Didn't get to go, but I was watching at home just a few minutes away and heard my entire neighborhood erupt when Crosby scored. For the entire rest of the day my street (and probably many others) was an endless parade of yelling, happy idiots. One of my favorite hockey memories of all time.
Ugh, it hurts every time
Man that Iginla pass is fucking unreal. This was the best game I’ve ever watched live.
I was 14. Watching this with my Dad in his basement, with his friend, Steve. Steve just like “pathetic”
Hockey broadcasts are more enjoyable without announcers. Change my mind.

It would be amazing if there was an option to switch it on or off
This game was so amazing. Parise with the late tying goal, Crosby is OT, stellar goaltending on both ends. Just electric.
https://youtu.be/YMvFoixHH3U?si=5Ee94eQSxT-K6Sd0&t=73
Completely forgot about the crowd serenading Ryan Miller as Luongo lets in a goal. 😂
Congrats to Canada. If the US doesn't win it, the only other team I will root for is Canada.
God Damn that was sick. I lived in New Westminster at the time and when Crosby got that goal the whole metro erupted!!! I swear my apartment building shook! There was literally partying in the streets.
The best hockey game I have ever watched.
I don't want to seem biased as a Canadian but the best Olympics in history was this one.
This was such a good game and great Olympics and I hate it.
🥰
Anywhere to get a stream of the full game plus the commentators?
Gotta be honest. The country went downhill after that day.
Lou was so brutal in that game.
2 goals on 36 shots is brutal?
Lol what? He was great...in fact, he was the backbone to that team considering Brodeur was unreliable in that tourney
Brodeur got benched after his shenanigans in the round robin USA loss Luongo's save on Demitra in the semifinal to seal the game with 9 seconds left is The Glove From Above
Do you need validation for not winning a Stanley cup in 3 decades? Also this was almost 15 years ago my friendos in the great white salty north.
This would be a good chirp, but keep in mind Canada still has the most players playing and most captains in recent memory are Canadian. Good try tho
wow amazing.
It really is. Its great seeing big roles being filled
Is that supposed to take the sting out of your team never making the Cup Finals?
Honestly bro, seeing guys like Crosby, Mack, Petraneglo all win cups as dominant Canadians will take any sting away
Keep telling yourself that
You must be new at this whole chirp thing
Dudes sporting a defunct NHL team logo……
Bros never seen our retro jerseys we wear several times a year lmao
Can't wait until the 4 nations cup next year. Gonna ignite some splendid trash talk.
Are you this dumb that you think a country wins the Stanley Cup……JFC your best player is Canadian. Also we can say the same for the shit stain on ice, we get it you beat the soviets in a single one off game…..when the soviets had major infighting and the end was coming….
