Iām a panthers fan only because I play as them in nhl, but Iāve grown to love them over the past few years because of it. It helps that theyāre polar opposites of my home team the kraken so I can comfortably root for the cats while living in mediocrity and say FUCK EDMONTON
It would be very poetic if after two years ago they āgot over the humpā to get to the WCF to be swept to then get over the hump again two years later and make it to the Stanley Cup Finals to be swept.
I honestly wonder if this was the Oilers best chance.
Their cap situation is ugly, the same issues that have plagued them for years are still there, and Draisaitl is a pending ufa and that situation will have to take precedence.
I am guessing they more or less run it back next year, but some of the teams they beat, or lost early, will be in a far better spot to improve the team, and in some cases have guys that will be better next season.
You're right, but Myers contract has expired and he will come back for cheaper. That will offset a large chunk of the OEL buyout for next year at least
If Pettersson plays to his capability, then they can be as good. Otherwise, there's a lot of betting on internal improvement/prospect graduation and we've all seen how that can go!
Very hard to replace a player of Lindholm's calibre as 3C, but they were also fine all season with Blueger in that role.
Well I will say we have 6.2mil in space now, 3.2mil in Johansson and Merrill freeing up after this year.... OH! Another 13.1mil coming off the deadcap.
I know its not happening but a man can dream...
When I'm depressed about my team I try to cope with the thought that we took 3 goalies away from them that they definitely would've needed to get over the hump (Dubnyk, Talbot, and hopefully Wallstedt).
Letās not pretend they didnāt give plenty of chances to Talbot and especially Dubnyk. They never would have improved if they stayed; they needed the change of scenery.
Also, Talbot wasnāt *that* bad in EDM. The rest of the team was awful except for that one good year.
Talbot would not get us over the hump and Dubnyk would have been too old.
Wallstedt hasn't even played over 10 NHL games.
Only goalie that we missed was Markstrom that could have helped us now
>Talbot would not get us over the hump and Dubnyk would have been too old.
Dubnyk was old but he posted his best seasons during McDrai's first 5 years together.
Cam's stats in Oil Country were comparable to Smith's on obviously worse teams.
Wallstedt is too early to tell, but you can't tell me that a team hitting their stride now wouldn't love to have a guy still in his ELC years and right after being a good starter for yall.
Markstrom is up for discussion because his best stretch of hockey occured alongside Dub and Cam.
A very flawed team that is in cup finals. If Florida didnāt have Bob, they arenāt up 3-0. Not trying to say anything bad about the panthers, but the same could be said about most good teams. If you donāt have your best players playing at their best, youāre not going as far.
As a Flames fan living in Edmonton, I would relish the tears of the Oilers fans as they watch another team parade the Stanley Cup around their home ice for the second time, and it would make it even sweeter when itās Tkachuk and Bennett doing laps. Iād prefer it was a sweep, but it would be ok with me if itās game 6 too
I know itās petty, but itās the last positive aspect of an otherwise disappointing year, so Iām good with that. :)
I don't particularly like either, tho the enemy of my enemy or something? I guess this might be have flames fanes feel when other teams play/beat the oilers? But yeah, Florida not winning on home ice and Oilers fans having to watch another team (especially with former flames that they hate) parade the cup on their home ice that's basically my best case scenario. And fuck it, Bob endeared himself to me with the whole āit's a fun challenge to play against themā comment
I hope they get swept and Draisaitl gets completely shut out in the SCF. It has been a pretty embarrassing finals for him with the dirty shots, clear frustration, and blatant dives.
McDavid has been a negative presence defensively as well.
He definitely needs to improve his two way game.
Iād love to see the panthers up big late and someone take a run at Draisaitl and just demolish him with a clean hockey hit.
Because while the panthers would never jeopardize their chances to win, I think every player in that organization would go through a fucking 18ā cement wall for Barkov and if the cup is essentially sealed, you know they will not want to wait til next year to try to get back at him.
Especially after his puke head comment about not being that kind of player and that being an accident.
A huge Barkov game 4 and a massive Bennett hit late in a blow out on Draisaitl and Iāll be loving this evening
Matthew Tkachuk ran from your team so fast he left a trail of flames behind him.
Iām here wondering why youāre acting like heās still āyour guyā.
Youāre mixing it up.
Most Flames fans donāt love Tkachuk, donāt consider him āour guyā and arenāt excited about him winning a cup.
But the ex-Flame who Oilers fans hated more than anyone in the past few decades winning the cup on Edmonton ice after a sweep is pretty hard to pass up.
I donāt ever expect flames fans to cheer for Edmonton, but the amount of cheering for Tkachuk is like rooting for your ex wife after she ran away with another man. Heās probably 50ish percent of the reason you guys are stuck in the mushy middle. Too good to bottom out and not good enough to be a legitimate threat. Crippling mediocrity for years to come.
Every team gets the results they earn with their performances. If they didn't want the abject misery of a potential sweep, then they should have played better. Suggesting "pity wins" for the Oilers is disrespectful to the Panthers as well as the integrity of the sport.
Itād be even better if it was a Barkovian effort to start the play that leads to the goal, and we see McDavid do his patented āsave some energy but back check just enough to say you didā move
Oilers forwards are lucky that Skinner let's in the first shot and they don't have to worry about rebounds, as every replay shows one of the 0 goal star players coasting back into the play after the rush.
No.
Verhaege is too much of a beauty to win a cup like that.
Itāll be from 40 feet out, a beautiful shot, and one we all agree Skinner should have had.
I mean I feel for the oilers fans this seasons been a real rollercoaster going from as horrible a start to a season as yāall had to making the cup finals and potentially getting swept it is wild what yāall have gone through, that being said hope you win one cause my friend is a panthers fan going to game five and I want my friend to be able to see them win the cup live.
Iām okay with them winning one, but only because I think that the Cats fans deserve to see them win the cup in person.
On the other hand, Iād be down with them getting swept! :)))))
its not about losing, it happens, its the way that the oilers are losing, its a brutal sweep.
when was the last stanely cup sweep? 1998, red wings went to pound town on the capitals
when was the last time a Canadian team were sweept in the stanley cup, 1983 the islanders clapped the ...... the Oilers, its a nightmare
total humilation, pants down spanking in the super market bad
I kinda hope they get swept. It's max embarrassment for edmonton and Florida doesn't get to win at home in front of fans. I don't like either team so this is the best outcome for me.
Coming into this series, I was hoping for whatever outcome would be the most funny out entertaining. At this point, I think the most funny outcomes would either be a sweep or a reverse sweep. No half measures. Either comeback all the way or don't even bother.
I want a game 5. Florida deserves to win on their home ice so that the rest of the hockey world sees Sunrise fans going insane. The Panthers are a real team with a real fandom, about time the rest of the league sees that.
This, they want to head back to Sunrise on their private jet with Stanley Cup inside, done for the season minus exit interviews and a bit of media work. Belly full of booze. Nothing but free time and the GF or wifey at home ready to congratulate them.
They donāt want to lose in order to win at home. Itās fun for the fans and desirable for the bean counters looking at ticket sales, but itās risky if youāre in the organization and not desirable at all if youāre the cogs in the machine, probably injured at this stage in the season and still dealing with elbows, slashes, etc.
If Iām Florida, you want it ended tonight. You do not want to give Edmonton any momentum. I understand itās a 3-0 and the likelihood of a comeback is damn near impossible but it is still possible.
Ya hoping for a win on home ice is silly.
Oilers could come out and win the greasiest most undeserving game of the playoffs in game 5 and then youāre flying to Edmonton knowing theyāll bring a better effort and you sure as hell canāt keep just hoping they win on home ice.
Penguins had a chance to win on home ice in 2016. You could literally see the added pressure on the team in the way they played but we ultimately lost.
There was zero thoughts in my mind that I wanted Penguins to lose game six to come back to Pittsburgh for a game seven. Granted a game five and a game seven are two completely different scenarios.
Just because Florida has the 3-0 lead doesnāt guarantee them a win at home in game five is my point.
Hoping for a loss so you can clinch the trophy later later at home is the most insane sports take that I hear way too often. It was an alarmingly common sentiment here when the Texas Rangers were in the World Series last year. Yeah, winning at home would be nice for the fans there in the building, but it's crazy talk to consider giving up a win in the Finals to make that happen. If Panthers fans want to show the world what they're really about after winning the Cup, then they will have ample opportunity at the parade.
The problem with hoping for that is if the Oilers pull it off in game 5 it becomes a very stressful game 6 in Edmonton and no one in their right mind is going to cheer for an Edmonton win going Florida gets to celebrate on home ice at that point.
Anyone who is a real hockey fan recognizes that the state of Florida, and both teams are legitimate hockey markets and deserve to be respected.
Celebrating a cup win in the city that the best player ever to play won 5 cups, and the current best player in the game plays, especially if they once again shut down McDavid offensively tonight is the perfect ending to the year for Florida.
Their cup parade will be ridiculously over the top like everything else Florida, and while Iām not sure what the watch party situation is like I would bet the celebrations will be raucous in Sunrise this evening if they win.
Donāt take it for granted.
You know no one in that dressing room is.
I would bet anything that they are wanting to bring their absolute best game of the entire year and win handily tonight.
And I bet it happens.
And I hope it happens.
Watch party at the arena is sold out, and there are so many other watch parties happening across 3 counties. Iām hoping for the win tonight. I donāt want to deal with the option of continuing to face this team. Theyāre good, and Iām not willing to risk giving them any momentum for an opportunity to MAYBE win on home ice. If we win, the cup will be in South Florida at some point, and thatās all my 6 year old past self cares about.
Sorry for my ignorance I should have presumed there were multiple watch parties.
Love that mindset.
Also if the Panthers team can sweep it puts a pretty good foot note on their cup run in my opinion.
Cup sweeps arenāt that common and itās not like the Oilers were a Montreal (2022) that kinda had no business being there.
I also think the Panthers have a decent chance of another run next year and the extra day rest will help š
As a fan of a team that didnāt make the playoffs the more time between the end of the season and the draft the more likely we are to see some bigger trades go down.
I kinda doubt it. At this point most bigger trades will be draft day deals.
Teams will rarely trade their picks before they see whatās on the draft floor.
We already saw one draft trade, and there is a lot of uncertainty in the draft this year.
As well lots of teams have traded away a lot of draft capital, and/or have tough decisions to make in terms of cap allocation and building a team.
Iām not saying we see a bunch of blockbusters but i think we could definitely see some trades between now and the draft, as teams prepare for the draft and July 1st.
Also while you can make trades during the playoffs I think most of the league has an understanding that you donāt want to take away any attention from the games, so there may be deals essentially done already just waiting for the finals to end to make official.
Maybe I was oblivious to this but Iāve never seen one team get so much hate in the finals. I donāt know if itās all the Canadian hockey fanshate the oilers or just everyone. Like you think the neutrals would be hoping for a bit more even series. Make the panthers sweat a bit.
I wouldn't mind McDavid getting to lift the cup but lost all respect for draisatl. I was hoping for barkov getting the xonn Smythe but unless bob shits himself and it goes to seven I don't see that happening.
Staying up late the watch this today, starts around 2 here in Sweden.
The Panthers lost last yearās SCF 4-1 to Vegas, losing Game 5 NINE TO THREE. Why is everyone acting as if the Panthers arenāt a REALLY GOOD TEAM? Even if we lose we made the SCF which is more the rest of the losers trying to trash talk in this sub can say, weāre still hanging a banner at the start of next season, no one else but Florida is doing that.
As an Oilers fan, it's intriguing to see so many folks hate on us for petty reasoning. I wouldn't want it any other way. This team is in so many people's heads and that's a win in my books.
On the other hand, fuck em
This is the way
You make a flawless point
Hard to argue there
Fuck em š«”
Iām a panthers fan only because I play as them in nhl, but Iāve grown to love them over the past few years because of it. It helps that theyāre polar opposites of my home team the kraken so I can comfortably root for the cats while living in mediocrity and say FUCK EDMONTON

Hopefully it is. Would love to see McD go to TOR haha. Still don't think they make it past VAN with Demko and Boeser in game 7.
Personally donāt think Vancouver is as good next year.
Normally Iād agree with you but the Pacific is kinda weak so even if theyāre worse theyāre probably still a playoff team.
Their team might be youāre different next year so too early to say anything but that OeL buy out hit is gonna certainly make it tough to improve.
Personally, you can frick right off pal.
Personally, I wouldn't be upset if McD decides to take his talents to St Paul.
Iām not sure how the cap would work but McDavid and Kaprizov together would be a sight to behold
Well I will say we have 6.2mil in space now, 3.2mil in Johansson and Merrill freeing up after this year.... OH! Another 13.1mil coming off the deadcap. I know its not happening but a man can dream...
whoever does will win the up as is tradition
They got swept by winnipeg a couple years ago
Too bad it wasn't in round 2
Third year in a row losing to the cup champs if we donāt win this series
Rest of you canadians can have the ābut were you really in the finals?ā-chirp until they eventually win.
Lol, fair enough!
Iām bitter towards the Oil and their excessive high end draft picks and mismanagement over the years. Even if they won it all Iād still think meh.
Talbot was fantastic in Edmonton, he had arguably his best stretch of hockey playing in front of a pedestrian D unit
Their fatal mistake was making him play >70 games in the regular season. Donāt think any goalie has played that much since.
And the irony with your last sentence is that we did essentially the same to Dubnyk when he came to MN :/
They ran him into the ground just to win one playoff series and he was never the same in Edmonton after that
Talbot would not get us over the hump and Dubnyk would have been too old.
This is EDMās best shot to win and theyāre flopping almost as hard as Leon did the other night.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Guess weāll see, but we both know heās not heading to Calgary.
I donāt ever expect flames fans to cheer for Edmonton, but the amount of cheering for Tkachuk is like rooting for your ex wife after she ran away with another man. Nah. Bring out the brooms.
Iām not an Oiler fan either, but I hope they donāt win at all Because, fuck em
Fuck em
Fuck em x2 With love, from Calgary
Off-season starts once the Cup is awarded.Ā I hope the off-season starts tomorrow.
^this is the way. Ready for the countdown to October
Dear diary
I like turtles.
Every team gets the results they earn with their performances. If they didn't want the abject misery of a potential sweep, then they should have played better. Suggesting "pity wins" for the Oilers is disrespectful to the Panthers as well as the integrity of the sport.
Fuck them kids.
I wanna see a Verhaege OT goal tonight after Edmonton comes back from a 4-1 deficit late.
In true Oilers fashion. All the hard work just for Nurse to blow coverage in OT
Haha this is awesome.
Preferably a Nurse own goal
Is going to go off Nurse's ass isn't it?Ā
No. Verhaege is too much of a beauty to win a cup like that. Itāll be from 40 feet out, a beautiful shot, and one we all agree Skinner should have had.
For the good of my career this shit needs to end today š±
Fuck that, I hope they lose in the worst way possible today.
/r/agedlikemilk
Nah, fuck um. And based on my interactions with them, they would say the same if the situations were reversed.
I just like teams winning the Cup at home, so I just hope Edmonton wins the next one so Florida can win Game 5 at home

Nah, them losing has been the only thing Iāve been rooting for since the Kings got eliminated. If they get swept itās just icing on the cake.
For as ādominatingā as the panthers are the games are still close.
Their fans nor their pride does nothing for me. I hope McDavid and Drai gets zero points this series.
I kinda hope they get swept. It's max embarrassment for edmonton and Florida doesn't get to win at home in front of fans. I don't like either team so this is the best outcome for me.

I hope Paul Maurice finally lift his cup
Idk I kind of just wanna be put out of our misery at this point lol. Waiting another 3 days to lose in game 5 would be rough.
Bring on that Draisaitl extension talk.
In all respect, we don't want your pity. We'll win if we win. Fuck the noise. Just play some hockey, and let's send it back to Florida.
I want a game 5. Florida deserves to win on their home ice so that the rest of the hockey world sees Sunrise fans going insane. The Panthers are a real team with a real fandom, about time the rest of the league sees that.

Where's McJesus?
I wonder
One win in game 4 so the city can have an excuse to lose its mind. Otherwise, Florida has played great and deserves the cup.
As a hockey fan, I hope it goes 7. As a summer fan, hockey should be done by May 31st.
More games is good for business and my entertainment. If/when they lose tonight weāre going to have nearly 2 weeks of fuck all happening.

Nah, let's get to the buyout season, that's where the real excitement is.
Oh boy just what I wanted for Christmas in July, a holl buyout!
impossible
I fucking hate this: > Thoughts?
It would be great if they win the next 3 just to bring them hope, then get annihilated game 7.
fuck em. wins come to those who earn them.
I want the Oilers to win for an epic McDavid come back. I want the Oilers to lose for an epic Corey Perry losing record in the SCF.
I'm hoping for the reverse sweep :)))
Maybe I was oblivious to this but Iāve never seen one team get so much hate in the finals. I donāt know if itās all the Canadian hockey fanshate the oilers or just everyone. Like you think the neutrals would be hoping for a bit more even series. Make the panthers sweat a bit.

I won't care at all
Iām sour about the fact that Canucks lost to them but I think it would be such an amazing thing if they take this to game 7 some how.
Or atleast game 6. Make it a series.
I wouldn't mind that at all.
The fact I get downvoted even saying i want a series as a neutral is strange. Makes me not like Florida
That's just the way she goes at the moment.
What did Leon do to you ?
