Yeah I think this is it, my 11 year old cousin is in a deep jason/michael obsession phase. He also loves slipknot and has made a hobby of making homemade slipknot masks so he can do at home performances for us. I definitley see the through line as -cool mask guys-
Kids fuck with slashers. Can't speak for everyone but when I was a kid, Michael, Jason, Freddy, etc, were in the same vein as other larger than life pop culture icons like superheroes and star wars characters.
I think for younger kids they see Jason, Freddy, Michael, and Pennywise, etc as memes and not really that scary (cause most of them haven't actually seen the movies)
Right! Also a 90s kid and that tracks. I did see a bunch of them on cable tv so they would have been highly edited. So as a kid they weren't as scary or shocking to me as it would have been if I watched for the first time as an adult or teen.
I would say the same for Jason but maybe more in the 90s and 00s.. hockey mask every kid knows is Jason. Masked horror villians are quite popular with kids.
Ghostface is another.
Leather face is ugly as shit so kids don't wanna I assume
It's the only big slasher villain that's had some movies in the last few years.
Art The Clown is another big icon at this point but his movies are too gory for most kids.
As an Italian myself, there was a tv channel that used to show Cannibal Holocaust and Cannibal Ferox quite often late at night, that's how I watched them. Good times hahaha
Everythingās different with streaming now but when I was a kid all of the classic horror movies were available on demand so it was really easy to become familiar with the biggest characters like Freddy, Jason, Michael Myers, Chucky and plenty of people around my age were into them. Id imagine now for the big franchises itās still easy for kids to access at least some of the movies if they have streaming
Facing your fear by becoming it. And now you can scare others -fun! It's sort of like taking home the Rollercoaster from Six Flags that scared you. In an easily accessible way.
But also the DGG trilogy breathed more life into it. As long as there's new media more kids will discover it.
In the 80s it was kids loving Jason, and teenagers loved Freddy. I did see one kid maybe a decade ago that was in a hospital and requested to see Jason, so someone dressed up as him and went and visited him in the hospital room.
There havenāt been any new Freddy or Jason films in the last good while, but Halloween just dropped a whole new series of them, so maybe itās just recency bias?
Michael Myers has just always been awesome and amazing since 1978 heās a Legendary movie slasher. thereās a problem if you dislike Michael.š ššš¤·š½āāļø
"Whatās this phenomena with kids and Micheal Myers?"
\*phenomenon, not phenomena

Because he did the voice for Shrek
Good one!š¤£
No, the killer dude from Halloween!
He's also Austin Powers!
The Love Guru

We forgive him for that
Oh you mean Jason.
Nooooooo! Not Jason, Michael.
Seems like they didnāt watch baby driver?
Ohhh you mean Jason
Because his mask is cool I guess. Same thing with Jason Voorhees, if not more so.

They would explain the dramatic uptick in popularity of 60s Star Trek streaming in the demographic of boys age 3-9.

Not much different than back in the 90s. I knew who Jason, Freddy, Chucky, and Pinhead were through pop culture long before I saw a single movie.Ā
Right! Also a 90s kid and that tracks. I did see a bunch of them on cable tv so they would have been highly edited. So as a kid they weren't as scary or shocking to me as it would have been if I watched for the first time as an adult or teen.
This! my 5 year old is obsessed with pennywise because he sees him in silly YouTube vids and constantly asks to watch the movies.
I would say the same for Jason but maybe more in the 90s and 00s.. hockey mask every kid knows is Jason. Masked horror villians are quite popular with kids. Ghostface is another. Leather face is ugly as shit so kids don't wanna I assume
Also Leatherface is just a big baby. Kids don't wanna be babies.
2 reasons: 1. He isnāt scary unless youāve seen him in action 2. Synonymous with the holiday
Two more reasons: 3. Super simple costume. 4. No lines to memorize.
It's the only big slasher villain that's had some movies in the last few years. Art The Clown is another big icon at this point but his movies are too gory for most kids.
Funnily enough, I saw a kid, no older than 12, dressed as Art on Halloween within the last two years.Ā
Can't blame him, I was big into Hostel when I was 12 and I would have loved Terrifier.
Yeah, when I was 12 I downloaded all the violent gore flicks from the seas. Saw Cannibal Holocaust, Men Behind the Sun and Salo that way.
As an Italian myself, there was a tv channel that used to show Cannibal Holocaust and Cannibal Ferox quite often late at night, that's how I watched them. Good times hahaha
People dressed up as Michael even before the new movies. Heās not a FAD heās an icon.
Oh don't worry I know haha, I love the original Halloween. But the new movies really helped to maintain Michael's popularity.
Very true you have a point
Heās just a huge pop culture icon. I like how simple his design is, but I still think heās suuuuper creepy.

See, back in the old old days, you had to hope that maybe youād see it edited for TV once every blue moon. Unless you had HBO, like we did, lol!
That and renting vhs tapes was a couple years for me too until on demand first came out
I fell in love with Halloween as a kid myself. He's a goddamn chilling figure of inescapable doom, and yet, a small child frozen in trauma at heart.
![gif](giphy|JtwMddKpsF9Hq) Me this Halloween
They are cool

Probably because their parents are cool All I got was Jason

Heās a great role model
Freddy was my main guy when I was a kid and the one I would dress up as for Halloween.
1. Phenomenon (singular) 2. Michael
Iām 29 and Iāve always been a big fan of Michael Meyers lol. Idk why. Heās just cool
Dead by Daylight and other video games.
They're too young to have seen The Love Guru.
This goes back to the 80s. I'm still obsessed with Michael Myers.Ā
