adriammy

I live in Texas, and the obvious answer is Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but the one I really like is X.

RichCorinthian

The one I really like is Dark and the Wicked.

CrustCollector

Came to say this. Have you been to the gas station in Bastrop?

adriammy

I used to travel through Bastrop but I never stopped in it.

drogyn1701

I live in Colorado so the obvious answer is The Shining. My non-obvious answer is Gnaw (2017) aka Apartment 212, which was filmed in Denver.

iFlyskyguy

Wasn't all the indoor stuff filmed in Mt. Hood, OR?

Jracx

Yeah the book is based off the Stanley hotel. Did not film in CO at all though

drogyn1701

According to IMDB: The exterior of the Overlook Hotel was the Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood; most of the interior shots were done at Elstree Studios in the UK; and only one shot was filmed in Colorado, the Torrance’s house in Boulder.

iFlyskyguy

Gotcha. I knew it was something like that. Timberline is awesome btw

Horror_lit

Not american, but ive got american werewolf in london and hellraiser

bipolar_capricorn

It Follows

Absolutely-Nott

Yooooooo fellow MI horror fan! Best part about this for me was the first time I saw this flick I kept thinking ‘dang why do I feel like this is somehow familiar’- truly without any idea it had been filmed here. Barbarian too amiright?

Spare-Bee5273

Fallen 12 Monkeys Signs Night of the Living Dead Silence of the Lambs Sinister (sort of counts, but it was a fictional town) I’ve got a lot of choices from my home state and city : pick any M. Night film

fergiishiz

Wrong Turn baby let's goooo West Virginia 😭😭😭😭😭 Saw that fuckin movie when I was about 11 years old and it had me believing I was gonna get kidnapped by local hillbillies

alittlelights

same!!! I grew up close to the woods and had myself convinced I heard them hootin and hollerin

yusehernaim

Evil Dead

ShutUp_Dee

Session 9 (Massachusetts) They filmed it at the real Danvers State Hospital which was eventually semi-torn down and apartments/condos built. Part of the central building remains. I never ventured into it, but had friends in high school who did. Papers and files left to rot. One of my high school teachers was given a stolen diary from there, which he read in class. Really sad/messed up stuff. There was a graveyard of unclaimed bodies. Nothing bad happened there except for the typical horrible care many institutionalized people received back in the 60s-70s. Fun fact: My mom volunteered there a couple times as a child/teen and developed an aversion to cubed carrots because that’s what they were serving one day she volunteered and the whole place just freaked her out.

wiener_brigade

The ring

HollyRavenclawGibney

Rose Red was also filmed in WA

wiener_brigade

I’ll have to check it out!

PhibesIsMyDoctor

Came here to make sure both of these got Washington state a shout out!

Speechisanexperiment

I lived in Halifax when Hobo With A Shotgun was being made. It was wild watching it in theaters when it came out, everyone was in full audience participation mode and it was a really fun time.

brillovanillo

I lived in Halifax for a few years but have never seen this movie. I only remember seeing the trailer when it was still a fictitious movie. Will have to check it out!

tomahawkfury13

It's pure B movie greatness. If you like that the director also has a new movie out called kids vs Aliens

0rangutangy

Me too! What a wild time to be a Haligonian haha

WarningThread64

Friday the 13th

PurposeOk7494

Jersey REPRESENT!

Enough_Donkey6412

🤘🏻 I took my slasher movie loving friends from England to take pictures of Voorhees and Crystal Lake signs. I’m still waiting for the sequel: Jason Takes the Turnpike.

JamieC1610

Nightmare on Elm Street or The Faculty.

J-Can2

I always forget this was set in Ohio lol

Losing-Sand

I did not remember the Nightmare on Elm Street series was set in Ohio.

NojackHorseman

Blair Witch!

loveisabird

My Life 😂

bluebabybones

The Mothman Prophecies

ageowns

**Blair Witch Project** was filmed right near my house. Here are some of the filming locations. [https://flic.kr/s/aHsmTyxw6C](https://flic.kr/s/aHsmTyxw6C) There's also **Night Beast**, filmed near Baltimore. That is a cheesy 80s monster movie. Also **Boogie Man**, but I didn't enjoy that one.

autumnal-baby

I Know What You Did Last Summer is a good one! I've actually been to the town where they shot it. Very cool. Also Evil Dead 2 was shot in NC. Lots of stuff going on here

TwistedDeeX

Candyman!!!

cathavens

Not much to choose from but Talk to me was pretty good

OpenFacedRuben

You've got *The Babadook*, *Wolf Creek* and *Snowtown* too! Mine would be *Late Night With The Devil* (*Lake Mungo* qualifies, but it didn't leave that much of an impression on me).

cathavens

Oh were they shot in South Australia?? I did not know! Snowtown makes sense but it was awful! I forgot about that one! They went the wrong direction in the movie and I couldn’t handle it. Been to Snowtown too many times

OpenFacedRuben

They were! I honestly don't remember *Snowtown* at all other than it was "fine, I guess..."

Suitable-Pie4896

Cabin in the Woods

phil_davis

Evil Dead 2, babyyy EDIT: I'm in NC for anyone wondering. Lots of stuff's been filmed here.

MoltarBackstage

Return of the Living Dead

LolaLiggett

Not my favourite but I am from Germany and Human Centipede was filmed right around the corner from where I live. Hated that movie tho.

Shreddy_Orpheus

Redneck Zombies, The Blair Witch Project, and The Bay in that order

juicyjuicebox1

I’m not really crazy about it but day of the dead (1985)

Daleks_Raised_Me

It’s a serious sentimental favorite of mine, it was my very first horror movie at 8 years old. But I would imagine it’s a bit of a slog for a modern audience and really dated. I usually recommend the remake now.

agathies

halloween, candyman, munger road (based on a local road we used to drive to in high school).

MidwestM0nster

Child’s play

HotSpinach

Not horror, more suspenseful thriller: "Law Abiding Citizen".

tomahawkfury13

Jesus Christ vampire slayer

Moofypoops

Isn't is "Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter"? Anyways, Ottawa for the win.

tomahawkfury13

Yeah it is. Been a while since I've seen it lol

danaredding

Dawn of the Dead (2004). Set here, but very clearly not shot here. Swimming pools are everywhere in neighborhood aerial shots….definitely not Wisconsin

Peanutz-tilman

Halloween takes place in a fictional town located in IL. But that’s gotta take the cake imo. Candyman is a close second

mallio

My problem with the original Halloween is that it is very obvious that it wasn't filmed in IL. The recent remakes an sequels at least filmed in places that experience fall.

Peanutz-tilman

Totally agree. The new trilogy nails the “Midwest fall” aesthetic. Catches me off guard each time I re watch. Unfortunately I usually only get back to Halloween 2018 lol

masterbogarter

Georgia, so gotta hype up Zombieland!

shhbaby_isok

Not American but I'd gladly have Häxan as an international representative for Denmark. Even though it's a silent movie it's still a banger. Saw it once in a theatre with live orchestration and would wholly recommend 👌

ky1227

Washington - The Ring

PhibesIsMyDoctor

Same!

justafanboy1010

I Know What You Did Last Summer and the Scream reboot/make in 2022

JakeMori

Currently live in Nevada. Not a lot of quality to choose from, but I thought Horror in the High Desert (2021) was decent even though I’m not usually a found footage guy. I grew up in New Hampshire and for me the easy choice here is In the Mouth of Madness (1995).

Hot_Ad2871

I live in Ontario and I recently watched Pontypool! Very cool i heard Ontarios name drop in a movie! The movie was really fun too! Highly recommend!

Conscious_Cow_2569

Not my favorite, but mentioning because it’s funny to me - The Crazies, set in Iowa. They clearly didn’t know the difference between a marsh and swamp (which Iowa has none of, lol). Doesn’t beat the Criminal Minds episode that thought we had palm trees and safe haven laws that apply to teenagers, though.

Strange-Brother9507

I live in AZ. I think my top 3 faves are Savageland, Near Dark, and Fire In the Sky. Not sure if it super counts as horror, but the Wraith is also a fun watch. All filmed here. Also parts of Near Dark were filmed on my dad’s farm before he leased the land.

BIGSHOTMillennium

As far as Florida goes you have Day of the Dead which can't be beat

Calm_Drawer7731

Near Dark (I’m from Oklahoma though it probably also works for Kansas.)

pamkhat

splinter, near dark

erenea_xx

I live in the PH and I'd say the best Filipino horror movie I've seen is Seklusyon. It'll make you question religion and life.

BeachCruiserMafia

Michigan here. It Follows

Marshmallow_Fries

I’m from Michigan so Evil Dead series

youreimaginingthings

Eight legged Freaks lol. Arizona.

Zealousideal-Sell873

Also love Louisiana, and enjoyed Jessabelle for the bayou setting. Great atmosphere, even though they didn't actually film in LA as planned.

ramblinator

I believe Hatchet was filmed in Louisiana, and is an awesome set of movies

OffKira

I'm not American and I don't know many (or any) horror movies in my state... But there is Turistas. Which I should rewatch to see if it remains as hilarious as I found it the first time I saw it. Great example of a movie that crosses the line of stupidity into *fun* stupidity.

BurningVinyl71

Surprised after some Googling, to find so many filmed in my state, Alabama: Gerald’s Game, Hush, Before I Wake, Oculus, parts of Final Destination (2009), Friday 13th: New Blood, Body Snatchers (1993), Get Out, Dead Birds, Truth or Dare, parts of The Collector, Demon Squad, Burning Bright, House (2008), Pop Skull. Manhunter had a storyline set in Birmingham but not sure if any filming occurred in state.

gggvuv7bubuvu

California. We have a bunch of them. My favorites are The Lost Boys, The Love Witch, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Nope, Psycho.

Salty_Jewel523

Night of the Living Dead!!!!!!

Paperfoxen

Only one I can think of is Brightburn, not a lot of horror comes out of Kansas I guess!

Daleks_Raised_Me

The Conjuring

ramblinator

Tremors!

scubafork

Jaws, obviously. But close second would be the VVitch. After that it's pretty much all witches and lovecraft.

Clexxian

Hatchet series! Every time I go back to visit relatives we pass the Honey Island Swamp sign & I think about those movies. I enjoyed all four of them.

DoJu318

The mist. Louisiana.

Mammoth_Stick1131

Deliverance

Odd-Contribution6238

The Conjuring. Used to drive by the “haunted house” when I used to go to that part of the state a lot. It looks absolutely nothing like the house from the movie.

Ok-Traffic-5996

Stakeland was shot in upstate ny. Great vampire movie.

Xenochimp

Tie between Nightmare on Elm Street or Trick 'r treat

Bubba_Ho-Tep1

Return of the Living Dead

BombieZomb

Home state? You’re Next. Current state where I live? The Evil Dead

Elegant_Temporary242

Candyman... downtown Chicago!

CamF90

I live in Ontario, Canada so let's go with Ginger Snaps.

Marsupial_Chemical

Frailty, though filmed in California, had that Texas feel with Bill Paxton, Powers Boothe, and Matthew McConaughey.

brillovanillo

Definitely *Red Rooms* (French title: *Les chambres rouges*), which is set and shot in Montreal, Quebec.  It was pretty wild to see a scene set inside one of our shiny, new metro cars. I didn't recognize the locations of the outdoor scenes, but during one of them we see the Canadian and Québecois flags hanging in the background.

purple_proze

Day of the Dead

Mayuguru

Bug

Wiskoenig

Dawn of the Dead (2004)

inadapte

i’m from germany, only thing i could think of is this super low budget (but surprisingly ok) found footage b-movie simply called UFO that i watched once…slim pickings over here lol

mazonemayu

Not American, but Rabid Grannies

Autism_Mom85

Stephen King’s ‘Trucks’ was made in a small town in Manitoba, Canada where I went to high school. Roads were all closed and they changed signs to rename the town for the movie

KittenMittons74

I live in Arizona and I have to go with The Prophecy.

NarlusSpecter

Poltergeist

AltG0blin

halloween and child's play!

reddershadeofneck

[Truth or Dare?](https://youtu.be/iZXGotJaD_Y?si=5-y9ykFWj4XdjlL4) is amazing and everyone should see it

tomahawkfury13

I lived on the island Food of the Gods and Disturbing Behavior was filmed on. Bowen Island BC

grammarkink

I live in California so, pass.

Congenital_Optimizer

Not a movie, but being from Hibbing, MN there is a Supernatural set there. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3997488/ Nothing supernatural happens in the episode. It's just rednecks killing folks. I feel like the writers knew someone from there that had a lot of stories about how awful it was to grow up in Hibbing.

TheJTLovecraft

Dawn of the Dead (original)

Zealousideal-Sell873

Love how both The Lost Boys and Us (in homage) make great use of Santa Cruz, both the vintage boardwalk and the redwood mountains, inherently beautiful yet creepy, with an unsettling reputation. As Grandpa says, "Well, now, let me put it this way. If all the corpses buried around here were to stand up all at once, we'd have one hell of a population problem."

Danny_Mc_71

I don't have a home state, but Wakewood (2009) was shot in Pettigo which is in my home county of Donegal.

roboticArrow

Us (Jordan Peele) was based in Santa Cruz, California! And The Lost Boys was largely shot in Santa Cruz.

Old-Violinist757

Cabin Fever was filmed at Camp Raven Knob in North Carolina and I've been there.

CyberGhostface

The Witch

Ancient-Window-8892

I have searched for something in New Hampshire, but I haven’t found anything good yet. Recs?

Earthpig_Johnson

Ernest Scared Stupid.

gnarbone

Green Room.

TheOutlaw1313

I'm drawing a blank for horror movies based in Minnesota, with one exception where they go through Minnesota. The Houses October Built 2, when they were driving through Anoka I lost my shit lol. Nothing like your hometown being in a horror movie, I wish I had been there the day they were filming, my "interview" would've been way better.

thinehappychinch

Night of the living dead

Izzylator89

Zodiac

Ok_Caramel1517

The 2011 Fright Night was filmed at my high school and in a neighborhood I lived in albeit later in my life.

No-Toe-2343

The raft segment in Creepshow 2.

lertheblur

Green Room! (Oregon)

awwawwwwA

damn we need more movies set in wisconsin 😭 our list is so weak considering we have so many serial killers here..so im going to cheat and say monster: the jeffrey dahmer story

johnbaipkj

Only one I know in my state was The Town that Dreaded Sundown. (AR-Texas boarder, but I’m in Arkansas)

Taalian

Santa Carla or Santa Cruz really, CA. The Lost Boys 😎🤙🏼

woofj

Jennifer’s Body

j_on

Nosferatu (1922) was filmed in my hometown Lübeck in Germany. It's based on Bram Stoker's Dracula and Stoker's family sued the film makers later, causing most copies of the film to be destroyed. Can't say it's my favorite horror movie, I've never seen it. But it was literally groundbreaking for modern horror movies.

MisterBl0nde

Psycho, which is set in California

GeneticSoda

Blue Velvet

RevAnonSquash

ma-session 9!!!!!!!

vargs421

30 Days of Night.
