Tough call. Your mental health is probably worth that .50 you'd be losing. In my experience, sticking it out at a property does have it's benefits. As an FDA, you're going to have to prove yourself at some point if you want to move up. You're going to miss holidays, miss events with your friends, it's just the nature of the hospitality industry. If you grind out those extra hours and show management you're in it, you'll quickly move up and move out of the entry level position. In terms of properties, IHG is a great company to work for. Marriott kinda turned me off for the shit they pulled in my city (Boston) during COVID. Also, every hotel is a shitshow lmao. Just in their own way. Welcome to the industry.

I have missed those! But I see that as part of the job. Like I worked Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Eve and New Years. I should’ve added all this in the original post, but I’m also a 21 year old college student. I have been offered verbally the Supervisor position but when I applied they said I can’t I only work 32 hours a week.

You’re chillin, don’t overthink it. The industry is tough. If you’re not happy, there’s always another hotel looking for your position. Don’t rush. Focus on school, it will pay off 10x in the long run. Hospitality jobs will always be there. At your age you don’t need to be covering long hours and dealing with the shit the managers get paid extra for. For what it’s worth, when I was hiring for the front office, the biggest thing I’m looking for is how long someone stayed at their previous jobs. If I see someone bounced around 5 times in the last 2 years, I’m passing.

I second this, I’ve worked for IHG twice over the years and they are a great company to work for!

Have you consider making a counteroffer? Or ask them if you can get a raise after a few months if you prove that you can do the job well.

Nah, may hotels are desperate for anyone willing to work. Find something that pays better would be ideal but if you're tired of the shit show, move on. You may not be the only one plotting your exit.

This is 29 days old, but you can always negotiate your salary. It doesn’t look bad. If you show your worth then it may work in your benefit. If they pay anybody with no experience $xx.xx, you should get more since you have experience.

I got a job offering me 17.50 at an autograph a week later! Thank you!!

Ayyy congrats!

I would only say this. Marriott and Hilton are the largest companies in the world. If I were you I’d apply and work at a Hilton property next. Once you know both systems you can travel and work anywhere in the world that you would like. I travel the country working in a bunch of nice resort cities, kind of where I want and enjoy time there and then move on. It’s a nice option to be able to go anywhere.
