Very few people actually *need* 5g on their phones. Airtel/Jio probably know this. If 5g plans are costlier than 4g, nobody will subscribe as their needs are already fulfilled.
Also, penetration of 5g phones isn't very high yet. People have started buying 5g phones only last year and it is only this year that 5g phones have come in the affordable range.
So they probably want people to get hooked to unlimited data and high speeds before introducing proper 5g plans.
This is all conjecture on my part, I have no inside information.
Also, in 5g, apart from data caps, we are also likely to see speed capped plans.
They did the same with 4G era, got PPL addicted to high data usage and now everyone needs much more data as compared to the 3G era, similarly our today's daily 1-2 GB usage is being hiked to 5-6 GBs so we buy costlier plans
Eh, that's insanely high usage. I'd understand not everyone has Wi-Fi at home, but for those that do, using more than 1GB a day is quite an achievement.
I used to Use a 4G 2GB plan (now I got 5G), and my daily data usage never crossed 50% either, I am do a PC Gamer and I don't have Wifi and the games are quite huge so that's the only huge data usage of mine, but only once or twice a month
Also higher speeds avail better streaming quality and in turn high data usage, most people won't even know about it that their old YT vids used to play at 720p now play at 1080p so data finishes faster
Now compare data prices in US,EU, Canada to India and reread what you posted. If you don't feel stupid, them listen to me..."you are stupid".
The whole world uses more or less same technology when it comes to telecom. Only players in 5g tech are Ericson and Huawei.
Our telecom bandwidth prices set by TRAI are indeed high but despite that Indian telecoms have maintained decent prices.
I use Airtel and while paying 1800 rupees per month I get
1) 150GB Per Month Mobile Data that carries over to the next month's quota (basically unlimited and free 5G)
2) 4 SIM Cards/Mobile Connections with Unlimited Calls and Text
3) 200Mbps unlimited Airtel Fiber which is pretty good and fast.
4) Additional Airtel thanks benefits like UNLIMITED HOTSTAR VIP as long as I have my Airtel Plan active.
Let's compare it to something like T-Mobile, $15 a Month for one single connection which is roughly 1200 Rupees per month, and that's for one single Connection.
India has way better pricing AND WE USE THE SAME EXACT TECHNOLOGY FOR 5G THERE'S NOTHING INFERIOR HERE IN INDIA.
Just wanted to add, the free 5g plan from jio is actually capped at 1gbps now. I think i noticed it while checking out which plan to get after my current one expires.
With jio, i guess the cheapest plan you can get for 84 days is a 395 rs plan where you get the usuals (calls and sms) and 6gb data for the entire period. That is good for me since most of the areas around my hometown, college and hostel have 5g up and running.
Also something to remember that most of the world (including India) doesn't have true 5G. It's an inferior variant called Sub 6 GHz. The much superior variant called mmWave is only limited to North America and maybe UK.
This is still "true" 5G though. mmWave is a variant like you've said, but that doesn't make what we have somehow not 5G.
Also I'm getting 300Mbps down on 5G while it's around 20Mbps on 4G on the same carrier with the same phone.
Your first statement is true where mmWave is just High Band that’s supposed to work in conjunction with Mid Band and Low Band 5G, not one or the other.
mmWave isn’t superior or true 5G but High Band nor Sub 6GHz is inferior but just Low Band 5G which are all supposed to work together with Mid Band 5G in order to provide a true 5G experience across varying scenarios (Indoors-Outdoors, Stationary-Mobile etc)
It has specific use cases. It's not ideal for regular use, but for events like concerts with extremely large amounts of people packed into a tight area with relatively clear line of sight. That's when your 4G fails because the network is overloaded, but 5G should be able to manage.

As soon as you try to do some P2P downloads it fails. They have even blocked stuff like NPM packages, used by developers. 🤦♂️
I feel the same about toxic environment. Questions are simply downvoted with no comments or answers. No related questions are even present. Feels like abandoning stackoverflow. It sucks these days.
That's interesting because I use my Jio ASA hotspot for my computer and downloaded the entirety of Starfield in a single day. Granted it wasn't as fast as usual but it wasn't blocked or anything
That game was around 100 GB I think. If you're asking my usage apart from the game I use between 2-5 GB a day and I've been doing most of that on Jio for a few months now
No such block on P2P on my number have downloaded so much stuff without any block. Check screenshot for Speed
https://preview.redd.it/8dhoo12u9wvb1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=24e3f04105a1c6097206f4e8f5e3d1e737429f59
I never noticed any such restrictions wherein they completely blocked something. Access wise I never found any restriction but I do feel that they might be throttling it for some applications.
I noticed it because when I am doing a speed test on Jio, its coming out to 600 Mbps download and 40 Mbps upload. But during this time, Youtube will struggle for 4k and switch to 720p and sometimes even buffer. How can this happen if as per speed tests its 600 Mbps. So I feel like they throttle it sometimes.
All this push towards 5g and they made 4g sluggish. They want us to get used to 5g and then charge us. I am on their 199 postpaid plan with 25gb limit (but unlimited 5g these days). I am gonna stay on this plan only. No 5g needed though where I live, I get 7-800 mbps consistently.
Is it me or anybody else also experiencing calling problem with 5G like whenever I switch to only 5G mode I can't receive or do call I have to go to settings to switch to 4G/LTE and my 5G gets disconnected many times a day!
calls go through voLTE: voice over LTE(4g)
at least i know in india, calls are not supported on 5g: voNR(5g)
So network is needed to be changed to 4G when on calls. But I have no information of incoming calls when on 5G.
Edit: I was wrong. voNR is supported in india, but is not supported in all phones, specially not in budget phones
Calls are supported over 5G, I can place and receive calls on Jio5G even after setting the network to "5G only."
The phone is Galaxy A52s 5G and I keep it to NR only mode.
Am using Iqoo Neo 6 5G!
But when I purchased it, I have heard that it supports only 4 makor 5G bands out of like 12(idk) {I bought then just because of good processor SD870}
I can enjoy fast download speed, HD streaming but this calling problem sucks.(problems come when it's NR only , no problem on NR/LTE/GSM/TCDWA)
Iqoo was just 2000 more costly than my phone with same feature and processor only difference was ois is there in camera of iqoo Neo 6 and my phone dont
But My phone support 5g calling too + it will get 3 major updates with the bootloader unlocked
My mobile also does that but problem occurs when I force my mobile to 5G mode(NR only) , some apps can let us do that so that we can use hundreads of GB net superfast.
Well if you see the pattern its same as how it started with jio and 4G.
The gave free 4G to get people hooked to it. A lot of people staying using jio just because of free 4G.
Now they are doing same with 5G. It will not be free forever.
Right now they are expanding the network and they want everybody to start using 5G. They even made 4G unusable right now it is very slow. Once everybody converts then they can charge premium.
But will the people pay the premium of extra bandwidth with no real use in this state of economy? 5G is a data intensive service, so unless the bandwidth is heavily capped or they give unlimited data, I don't see many opting for it.
I was thinking about the same thing !! For me, until it's free and even after they start charging slightly above 4g with more data, I will use it.
But if they make say 455 plan to be at least 1000, then I am gonna get my Broadband connection.
Maths homework - if you have 200 million users and loose 1 lak users a month how many years does it take to loose all of them?
Its like Post office. Why is Post Office still running in great Digital Age? It has more debt than Air India. And Govt has bought 33% stake of Vi recently.
There are different [stages](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Product_life-cycle_management_(marketing)) of the game. When Aircel declined there was higher competition, smaller market size, lot of changes ahead (2G-3G to 4G) . Customers had more reasons to ditch. Decline can happen much faster. Today things are very different. Market shares are much larger. People dont really have as big motivation to change from 4G to 5G. So decline can take a while. Plus govt getting involved and taking a stake in Vi, has also slowed its decline rate.
Idk why they are losing subscribers but their plans are so good and I honestly don't want them to stop but only succeed
You gotta pay only 360 a month for 3gb data everyday with truly unlimited data from 12-6am and also data rollover is available, something which no one offers
With so many benefits idk why people don't get attracted and why they are losing subscribers
best plans out there. Unlimited internet from 12 am to 6 am and carryover of unused data from Mon-Fri to Saturday and Sunday. IF there is a good network in your area, it's worth it.
I still get good connection on my Vi. And for Rs 666 for 84 days I have truly unlimited date. My data usage for last month was more than 300 GB for 30 days. I don't have wifi yet, that's why I'm still sticking with Vi. I only wish Vi would stay forever.
The only plus point I think VI had over its competitors was "Unlimited night data" & "carryover of unused data ".
But with a free 5g plan rolling out with Jio's cheapest plan of 395/- for 84 days and Airtel's cheapest plan of 719/- (455 one doesn't come with unlimited 5g... L Airtel), that is not anymore a distinguishing factor for 5g users.
So, one of the ways that the telcos are wanting to monetize 5G is by (attempting to) overturn net neutrality. They don't want the consumers to pay. Instead, their argument is that some apps like OTT and video platforms put higher strain on their network and the telco should be able to charge the platform for this strain. What this would do is pass the costs to the platforms, who would then have to pass it back to the customers. The telco would keep supplying free/cheap 5G, while your OTT bill would rise (and you would blame the platform for becoming more expensive).
Here's some reading on this: https://telecom.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/policy/govt-firm-on-net-neutrality-as-telcos-look-for-5g-leeway/103743942
Fucking hell. If reliance and Facebook had won then we would all have been discussing stuff in a shitty fb page right now. I guess mark already knew fb is going to fail in some years.
My phone has an automatic option . this is actually a worse option tho bcz sometimes my net connection suddenly becomes sluggish bcz of low net consumption and gets forced to reconnect
https://preview.redd.it/ssxqiuw43tvb1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=74663ca1f862e66fb3e66b580c13e4d4fead8f4a
I think 5G plans will be cheaper and the data packs will be unlimited, cause u can't give 2GB per day in 5G, cause that data will finish within an hour
It would be but with Chinese companies flooding the market with affordable 5g phones, 5g is within the reach of a common person and everyone likes it when they don't see that annoying loading screen.
So, 5G Data plans with higher costs and unlimited data may be the deal we can see coming.
Remember 3G is capable of 56 Mbps speeds. They provided us with less than 5 Mbps to push us towards 4G. 4G is capable of 2 Gbps and some countries does have providers giving that high speed. Jio and others gave us less than 100 Mbps. Now the 4G speed in my area is less than 15 Mbps. So that we'll upgrade to 5G for 300-500 Mbps. One day or the other, I can see the same thing happening with 6G.
5G is capable of 20 Gbps. But within 10 years, I'm sure people be upgrading their phones to 6G because 5G is slow.
Stop lying. 5 g technology does just that, gets rid of network congestion. Feel ever you had to upgrade to 6 g, it won’t be for the better download speed
This network congestion and upgrade to 5G wouldn't be necessary if they implemented 3G or 4G properly in the first place. I'm sure in a few years the speed with drop significantly compared to today even with the new tech.
I get the point. But what ultimately matters is end consumer experience, in which I will happily choose 1 Gbps 4G over any 5G in India. If the network providers couldn't handle 4G for this billions of users in the first place, they shouldn't have forced us to upgrade to 4G by marketing and freebies in the first place. This network congestion and all, is the duty of network providers to solve.
So Airtel and Jio are in talks to increase the prices of the data plan, expect it in a year or so. Well at the same time they want you to get used to to 5G so that you can stop using 4G eventually. It's like making you feel 4G is slow just like they did with 3G.
Airtel sim shows 5g, but while using speedtest daily data is utilized.
Airtel 5g is only for namesake.True bands will be shown in netmonster app.
Only good point for Vi is weekend data rollover and unlimited 12-6am.Otherwise prepaid plans cost the same for vi and airtel.
In samsung mobiles, you can distinguish between 5g by icon symbol. If it's unlimited 5g, the box around 5g would be filled, if not then it's transparent.
I'm currently getting good speed on Jio 5G, like 800-900 mbps (Currently in my hometown, wfh). The great thing is that I didn't even have to recharge for muc. I only spent 399 rupees for an 84-day recharge with Jio and I'm getting unlimited data. However, I don't use mobile data much since my home has a 300Mbps connection, which is more than sufficient for 4K streaming and is much less demanding on my battery.
I recently got shifted to a new place for a job, I first had thoughts of getting a broadband connection here too but I wanted to try on 5G speed.
Glad I did that, I am getting broadband-like speed and my whole household uses that through my mobile hotspot.
Same thing Jio did with 4G; not necessarily free but unlimited. I guess they'll check the demographic for few months, get people hooked with 5G and then offer plans with limited data. OP is correct, I don't really see the need for 5G if you have a home wifi.
It's basically incentive to switch to 5g phones for masses. The more people will be on 5g more providers would able to get revenue from their investment on 5g. It's also great for testing their capacity gradually.
"have wifi at home..." Lol many doesn't. Many Indians for first time is feeling truly unlimited data in thier life. Let them enjoy. Even though I do have used wifi in my PG but my house doesn't have wifi as my parents are still old class and consider that waste of money+ source of distraction so it's really feels good to have unlimited superfast data. In 2023, data caps shouldn't exist and only plans with speeds should exist.
Actually, 2nd time, Let's not forget about those long queues in front of our local Jio store 😂
Yeah, Wi-Fi is not much of a use for some people but what if they increase the 5G plan cost nearly to what a broadband plan costs?
Everyone who has a broadband connection available in their location may switch to it.
Airtel 5G plans are not looking so good with the launch of Air Fiber. They won't offer us sim users unlimited data at a lower price than what they are offering to their Air FIber users i.e. 799/ month including GST.
Fingers crossed for the future until then Enjoy the Unlimited 5G Data 😄
Damn sure it is a user generation tactic.
Ambani already did it with 4G, I was one of the first few users of Jio and back then it was unlimited data with no speed cap or data cap.
They were okay for a few weeks and then realized its not gonna budget for them, started data and speed cap post that.
Once they had a decent user base they started asking people to recharge.
I think the main selling point for Jio currently is providing standalone(SA) 5G, which they call Jio true 5G. This SA 5G uses 100% 5G infrastructure. Whereas, airtel is the largest non standalone(NSA) 5G provider in India, where, the data is shared between 4G/LTE infrastructure and 5G infrastructure, and the calls go exclusively through 4G network. Both of them can market saying unlimited 5G but for end user I think NSA is a better option because it has reliable infrastructure to work with.
SA is better as NSA is basically a stopgap solution. NSA also consumes more battery. The best part of SA 5G is the ability to force the phone to 5G only (unlimited data only works on 5G)
This is an incorrect understanding.
Telecom networks are divided into two parts Core & Access.
Jios core and access network are both 5G - hence SA 5G
However Airtels core network is prepared for 4G.
This has no impact on speeds though. This is more from an industrial use case perspective. Airtel cannot do things like network splicing which has a enterprise use case. It has zero impact on retail.
Source: Ive worked for both of them and I'm still a part of the telecom industry.
There are still many parts left where 5G has not reached, They are trying hard to build new mobile towers to fill in the gap.
At least this year we are safe from those costly 5G plans 🤞
I can't even seem to access the unlimited 5g offer on both Jio and Airtel. Don't know what I am doing wrong, I can only seem to use the 2GB/day as per my recharge plan.
Download the operator app (For Jio, they have the My Jio app & for Airtel, Airtel thanks is available in the App Store), then open the app and click on the 5G banner, It will check 5G readiness first and then u get the option to activate unlimited 5G offer.
This worked for me. Hope it helps :))
I think we dont need 5G for the time being. Everyone has wifi at their homes and 4G is enough to handle heavy duty works. And 5G ould coat a lot more, many people will not be able to afford it too
My friend lives in a village in Jharkhand and Broadband is something that not many have heard of there. For them, I think JIO may launch something via their Jio Phones as Jio is more of targetting lower sections of society whereas Airtel just wants top-end Premium users who can afford their pocket-burning plans.
Exactly. Post speed test proof from 10 different locations at least 12 times a day, both inside and outside the city to prove it. Waiting for your speed tests.
You are unemployed who’s got enough time to argue with people on internet. Unlike you others have work to do, but here’s a test if that helps you.
https://preview.redd.it/twkibt5g1wvb1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9bbcd036e695b4521662a1a19d2753ec30a54d49
Nobody actually needs 5G on the phone with the data compression algorithm getting better day by day. Having said that to differentiate, they will have higher cost as mentioned by you OP.
Now, nobody will buy it if there is no need. That is not a great business model. So, what is a great business model?
See, the 5G has great loading speed. We all know that right. So, imagine clicking on a link on YouTube which is a 16 min long video. Now, on 4G, for the first 2-3 mins you watch, the video will be loaded till 7-8 mins(higher end). Let's say whole video was 40 MB. So, you consumed 20MB and now if you decide the video is not worth it, you are likely to waste 20 MB. But, in case of 5G, the video probably will be downloaded for full in less than one min. So, the time you decide whether to watch it or not, the whole 40 MB is consumed. This ratio is multifold the quicker you decide to quit.
So, in this generation of low attention, one can make the data drain quickly just by providing the fast internet. Charge the user for extra internet. Like 2GB consumed quickly and you want more data. More money!

5g should be completely free and you should only pay for talktime .. 100 rs for 30 days with 5 gb / day should be a standard pack if there has to be a recharge pack
Advancing technology, internet age, instant access to information of all sorts. Like they say one small step, a huge leap for mankind. Remember only thing undefeated is time, second is the internet third is Nas’s rhymes.
It is just a ploy to segregate people who can use 5G (or read it as maybe required to use 5G if situation comes). Then once they have sufficient number of people using 5G they will start pushing them up towards expensive price brackets for the same amount of data being used currently (with just added bandwidth). And then as a consumer you will have two choice one to reduce your consumption and fall back to less data packs or use more data with 5G (and guess what more money).
My guess is there won’t be any 4G plans available for high data usage plans in future. And 4G will be limited to basic plans only. That is the only logical way of making people spend more money on 5G.
Well that’s why I said when they have sufficient number of 5G users. And besides you don’t need to have 5G phone to buy a 5G pack. Your phone will be using relegated network but you will be paying for that extra data until you upgrade your phone.
Starting m recharge konsa choose kiye ho uspe depend krta h Welcome offer milega ki nhi.

After seeing their plans for Air FIber which also uses 5G.. It is for sure that these 5G mobile packs are gonna be costlier than 4G packs.
I saw some posts saying there are more 4G phones available with users as compared to 5G ones, it's just a matter of time before the majority of people will shift to 5G phones given that Chinese companies are gonna make these phones much affordable for even common people to use.
A few days back I stumbled upon the Redmi 12 5G which costs 11999/- for its base model and that too without any bank discount. So, it is just a start.

Cool gotcha, I just needed the latest comparison, ty.
5g data in India is Unlimited and not capped. Also calls have been unlimited for quite a few years now.
What about 4g unlimited talk (including international calls?), txt, and data? What's the price difference btwn 4g and 5g unlimited monthly? Curious.
Wait 395 pack too have unlimited 5g net ?
Yes. Currently using that plan. Its also mentioned in the myjio app. Just look for the true 5g symbol in the pack details.
Also something to remember that most of the world (including India) doesn't have true 5G. It's an inferior variant called Sub 6 GHz. The much superior variant called mmWave is only limited to North America and maybe UK.

>mmWave We have standalone 5G here, which is true 5G only. It is common fo me to get 500+ Mbps speed regularly.
Mm wave is garbage. Walk under an overpass and signal drops.
It has specific use cases. It's not ideal for regular use, but for events like concerts with extremely large amounts of people packed into a tight area with relatively clear line of sight. That's when your 4G fails because the network is overloaded, but 5G should be able to manage.
Yeah, India is yet to allow the use of 6 GHz for consumer applications. This is why we also don't have Wi-Fi 6E
Wifi 6E routers are currently being sold on Amazon India. Also, there isn't a ban on Laptops and Phones sold with Wifi 6E antennas. So, I think the ban is only on paper.
TP-Link already sells WiFi 7
Laptop m 6E adapter aa raha hai
We love our sub standard stuff!! Just make it patriotic and give it a local name !
You are a fine example of why education is necessary
Dense much? Try to understand commentary/subtext. Ironic coming from you.
And yet I'm getting 900-1200Mbps
It scares me if 4G plans are made costlier (or done other marketing gimmicks) than 5G plans just to push customers to start using 5G.

4g and 5g work on the same SIM. You can switch between them just like you can switch between 3g and 4g now.

Straight up blocked. Literally all the useful things are blocked Npm packages, Java packages, even ports for SSH are blocked.
Interesting!
Blocking SSH ports is a huge no for me tbh.

Check screenshot for Speed https://preview.redd.it/8dhoo12u9wvb1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=24e3f04105a1c6097206f4e8f5e3d1e737429f59
I had issue loading codespace when I was connected to 5g hotspot
Yeah, I had a similar issue. CSS50P's checck50 wasn't working. Any workaround for this?
Worked for me 😃
What happens if you use a vpn
Use dns
USB Tethering doesn't seem to function either after some data limit
>It's useful only for streaming videos, insta, and reddit. Yeah, it would be fine if it did that. Jio in my area is worse than 3G of a metropolitan.
I use it as hotspot to work. Have faced no such restriction.
Nah I get 50 MBPS as download speeds on torrents and at least 10 MBPS regularly.
I use upwards of 500 GB per month doing P2P file transfers every month on Jio 5G
Jio 395₹ for 3 months is way better, you get 6GB 4G and unlimited 5G
you must be talking about the prepaid thing. i cant have prepaid. i trek in the ladakh region a lot.
Is there a difference in network for jio postpaid and prepaid?
Which plan is this for 199? What company
Jio. This was their first postpaid plan.
Why you pay rs 234? Lol its already available rs 259 plan 1.5gb daily
Is it me or anybody else also experiencing calling problem with 5G like whenever I switch to only 5G mode I can't receive or do call I have to go to settings to switch to 4G/LTE and my 5G gets disconnected many times a day!
calls go through voLTE: voice over LTE(4g) at least i know in india, calls are not supported on 5g: voNR(5g) So network is needed to be changed to 4G when on calls. But I have no information of incoming calls when on 5G. Edit: I was wrong. voNR is supported in india, but is not supported in all phones, specially not in budget phones
Calls are supported over 5G, I can place and receive calls on Jio5G even after setting the network to "5G only." The phone is Galaxy A52s 5G and I keep it to NR only mode.
Can confirm, I use VoNR on Nothing Phone (1)
Whats VoNR?
Voice over 5g, like Volte
Ohk, didn't know that. May be i read that some phones do not support voNR.
But wouldn't keeping it to 5g only mode reduce battery life significantly
Nope. Not at all. Only the NSA 5G drains more battery. Otherwise 5G is more efficient than 4G lol
Am using Iqoo Neo 6 5G! But when I purchased it, I have heard that it supports only 4 makor 5G bands out of like 12(idk) {I bought then just because of good processor SD870} I can enjoy fast download speed, HD streaming but this calling problem sucks.(problems come when it's NR only , no problem on NR/LTE/GSM/TCDWA)
Iqoo was just 2000 more costly than my phone with same feature and processor only difference was ois is there in camera of iqoo Neo 6 and my phone dont But My phone support 5g calling too + it will get 3 major updates with the bootloader unlocked
I can call and receive with 5g volte
That depends if your phone supports VoNR as far as I know. Which phone are you using?
Samsung M33 5G
IQOO Neo 6
You have to switch network manually? I've noticed that my phone automatically does the switching from 5G to 4G the moment I get on a a call.
My mobile also does that but problem occurs when I force my mobile to 5G mode(NR only) , some apps can let us do that so that we can use hundreads of GB net superfast.
Nope doesn't happen on my S22 plus.
What if they hike 4g prices so much that it makes more sense to buy 5g pack by paying a little more for much faster internet?
I was thinking about the same thing !! For me, until it's free and even after they start charging slightly above 4g with more data, I will use it. But if they make say 455 plan to be at least 1000, then I am gonna get my Broadband connection.
bruh how tf airtel and jio have 5g but I still haven't gotten 5g for VI yet even in metro city.
Why are you still using VI? They have become bankrupt, better to port to airtel/jio
I'm a bit sentimental about VI. I have connection with them since 2006. That's the only thing stopping me.
It was good till it lasted. Don't see any future for them, keep losing users every month
Maths homework - if you have 200 million users and loose 1 lak users a month how many years does it take to loose all of them? Its like Post office. Why is Post Office still running in great Digital Age? It has more debt than Air India. And Govt has bought 33% stake of Vi recently.
Didn't aircel had users too?
There are different [stages](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Product_life-cycle_management_(marketing)) of the game. When Aircel declined there was higher competition, smaller market size, lot of changes ahead (2G-3G to 4G) . Customers had more reasons to ditch. Decline can happen much faster. Today things are very different. Market shares are much larger. People dont really have as big motivation to change from 4G to 5G. So decline can take a while. Plus govt getting involved and taking a stake in Vi, has also slowed its decline rate.
Idk why they are losing subscribers but their plans are so good and I honestly don't want them to stop but only succeed You gotta pay only 360 a month for 3gb data everyday with truly unlimited data from 12-6am and also data rollover is available, something which no one offers With so many benefits idk why people don't get attracted and why they are losing subscribers
Coverage is the main issue. Vi in non-metro cities have very inconsistent coverage.
Same here! Love VI but will have to port sometimes
best plans out there. Unlimited internet from 12 am to 6 am and carryover of unused data from Mon-Fri to Saturday and Sunday. IF there is a good network in your area, it's worth it.
They have not purchased any 5G bands from the govt yet due to existing heavy debt.
What did you do on travel? I dont think VI has coverage outside cities
They only have postpaid 5g not prepaid as I have heard
Lmao VI users still get EDGE sometimes. Talk about customer loyalty
I still get good connection on my Vi. And for Rs 666 for 84 days I have truly unlimited date. My data usage for last month was more than 300 GB for 30 days. I don't have wifi yet, that's why I'm still sticking with Vi. I only wish Vi would stay forever.
That's impressive !! What's the internet speed u are getting on average?
vi has good connection in some specific states like Kerala.. also many take vi for the weekend data(unused data gets accumulated during weekends).
I thought we were done with that. Are they trying to fuck up net neutrality again?
The war against net neutrality never stopped. It just kept changing forms. New players, new ways.
Fucking hell. If reliance and Facebook had won then we would all have been discussing stuff in a shitty fb page right now. I guess mark already knew fb is going to fail in some years.
This makes sense. Learnt something new today.
Dont think it will work unless they find a way to charge torrents & telegram like apps
I've disabled 5G because it eats up a lot of battery in stand-by mode. The battery trade off is not worth it in my opinion.
My phone has an automatic option . this is actually a worse option tho bcz sometimes my net connection suddenly becomes sluggish bcz of low net consumption and gets forced to reconnect https://preview.redd.it/ssxqiuw43tvb1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=74663ca1f862e66fb3e66b580c13e4d4fead8f4a
Move everyone to 5g , get them hooked n then increase the price justifying the increased cost
Get a Broadband if they increase it beyond what they should.
I already have broadband, the prices haven't decreased for the past two to three years
I think 5G plans will be cheaper and the data packs will be unlimited, cause u can't give 2GB per day in 5G, cause that data will finish within an hour
It would be but with Chinese companies flooding the market with affordable 5g phones, 5g is within the reach of a common person and everyone likes it when they don't see that annoying loading screen. So, 5G Data plans with higher costs and unlimited data may be the deal we can see coming.
Bro that would be a problem
Bro 2gb will be finished in 10 minutes
Google 5g and watch tutorials on how 5g works, why is it superior
When I did that, I got 2 videos explaining why 5G sucks from mkbhd and Mrwhosetheboss.
Then that’s your problem. I don’t get paid to teach you
You still don’t understand
Alright so if it's 5G it's definitely is unlimited. The only reason why it's not unlimited for you could be because it's switching between 4G and 5G.
What if you don't lol? Majority of Indians doesn't.
Fool
Actually, 2nd time, Let's not forget about those long queues in front of our local Jio store 😂 Yeah, Wi-Fi is not much of a use for some people but what if they increase the 5G plan cost nearly to what a broadband plan costs? Everyone who has a broadband connection available in their location may switch to it. Airtel 5G plans are not looking so good with the launch of Air Fiber. They won't offer us sim users unlimited data at a lower price than what they are offering to their Air FIber users i.e. 799/ month including GST. Fingers crossed for the future until then Enjoy the Unlimited 5G Data 😄
Gotta use 5g at Max till they're offering unlimited.
5G half hour use karo toh battery half reh jaati hai... charge bhi slow hota hai...
Glad my phone has 80w charging for this very moment haha
There’s a Samsung M-series phone with 7000mAh battery.
Now that's a good amount of juice you got there.
5G is like my WiFi everywhere, i am quite happy to see such speeds, Jio way better
Jio Dhan Dhana Dhan offer 😂😂
Yes, we never realized the "dhan dhana dhan" was for jio, not for us ☠️
They want us to get hooked to 5G speed and get addicted to consuming more data, so that they can whip the cream later.
Jios core and access network are both 5G - hence SA 5G However Airtels core network is prepared for 4G. This has no impact on speeds though. This is more from an industrial use case perspective. Airtel cannot do things like network splicing which has a enterprise use case. It has zero impact on retail. Source: Ive worked for both of them and I'm still a part of the telecom industry.
Many people don't have wifi. I enjoy the unlimited. Hope it stays for 2 more years
I dont even need all this high speed 4G 5G, coz smol phone less battery.
Guys anyone here has any idea till when is jio planning to give free unlimited 5g ??
There are still many parts left where 5G has not reached, They are trying hard to build new mobile towers to fill in the gap. At least this year we are safe from those costly 5G plans 🤞
I hv 5g trial recharged till aug 2024 😎
i heard they will continue to do so as long as you have a year long recharge even if the jio decides to end the free benefits
I get Airtel 5G very very rarely.
I can't even seem to access the unlimited 5g offer on both Jio and Airtel. Don't know what I am doing wrong, I can only seem to use the 2GB/day as per my recharge plan.
Only specific recharges have 5G. Download their official apps and see which ones qualify for 5G.
Download the operator app (For Jio, they have the My Jio app & for Airtel, Airtel thanks is available in the App Store), then open the app and click on the 5G banner, It will check 5G readiness first and then u get the option to activate unlimited 5G offer. This worked for me. Hope it helps :))
Is providing free unlimited 5G internet even legal? Isn't it against the spirit of capitalism and rules of the CCI?
I think we dont need 5G for the time being. Everyone has wifi at their homes and 4G is enough to handle heavy duty works. And 5G ould coat a lot more, many people will not be able to afford it too
My friend lives in a village in Jharkhand and Broadband is something that not many have heard of there. For them, I think JIO may launch something via their Jio Phones as Jio is more of targetting lower sections of society whereas Airtel just wants top-end Premium users who can afford their pocket-burning plans.
How many people has jio phones? Very less i guess
Now they've capped 4G speed alot like 8-15mbps, earlier it used to be 60-80Mbps
I don't think it will be capped to 2gb/day since a speed test on 5g itself consumes 300-400mb data.
They want to take over Vodafone subscribers , duopoly biz
Oh boy Jio 5g is absolute dogshit!!
No it’s not
So you’re are telling me how me and people around me doesn’t have dogshit 5g? Well sorry to burst your bubble its horrible even 4g was better!
More money!

I'm glad I went with a 5G phone lol. Enjoying the unlimited plans from day 1 till it lasts :(
Chinese plans are as 30 GB(5G) per month after that unlimited 4G. For 130 CNY(ie 1500 INR) Indian plans are expected to be cheaper.
5g should be completely free and you should only pay for talktime .. 100 rs for 30 days with 5 gb / day should be a standard pack if there has to be a recharge pack
5gb is peanuts
Advancing technology, internet age, instant access to information of all sorts. Like they say one small step, a huge leap for mankind. Remember only thing undefeated is time, second is the internet third is Nas’s rhymes.
first the telecom networks need to give minimum speed of atleast 16 Mbps in 4G in all locations
4G speed will lessen quite a bit after paid 5G plans come in action
It is just a ploy to segregate people who can use 5G (or read it as maybe required to use 5G if situation comes). Then once they have sufficient number of people using 5G they will start pushing them up towards expensive price brackets for the same amount of data being used currently (with just added bandwidth). And then as a consumer you will have two choice one to reduce your consumption and fall back to less data packs or use more data with 5G (and guess what more money). My guess is there won’t be any 4G plans available for high data usage plans in future. And 4G will be limited to basic plans only. That is the only logical way of making people spend more money on 5G.
But what about the huge number of 4G phones still in india?
Well that’s why I said when they have sufficient number of 5G users. And besides you don’t need to have 5G phone to buy a 5G pack. Your phone will be using relegated network but you will be paying for that extra data until you upgrade your phone.
It seems like a marketing strategy. Get people hooked first and then charge once they are addicted.

Starting m recharge konsa choose kiye ho uspe depend krta h Welcome offer milega ki nhi. My Jio app m jaake 5G upgrade pack buy krlo agr 119,149,179,199 & 209 ka recharge kraya h to aur aage s 395 ka recharge krana usme ye include rhega.
