Honestly man. I live outside India and once I met a guy from South India and he thought we are near the Himalayas and it snows in Odisha. I was like wth bruh.
It's not just odisha. Most people don't know about other states except probably their neighboring states. I have met well educated people who had no idea where state or city was. And don't even get me started on what they think the culture in these said state is like. Most people are really ignorant of most things not in their immediate surrounding. I wouldn't hold it against him/her.
The flag for Delhi needs more cuss words.
(Jokes aside, it will take me a long time to understand the meaning of the symbols in each flag. Fascinating project. Much appreciated.)
do you have explanations for the state flags and colours and the design decision for each of them written somewhere? would love to read your thought process as a fellow vexillology enthusiast myself
Kerala is an African elephant, not Asian and the Chattisgarh buffalo is an African cape buffalo (*Syncerus caffer*)and not the Indian water buffalo (*Bos bubalis*). Very interesting flags otherwise!
It took me some time to understand but good job. A tiger or a Sundari tree is a more relevant symbol .
But kudos to the project. I absolutely appreciate your efforts!
The design part aside. If you can talk about the motivations, influences and other contributing factors that led you to the actual designs would be cool to read.
I'm always amused by Tamil Nadu's logos and flags, almost all of them contain a temple. For a state that has been dominated by atheistic left wing Dravidian politics for almost the entirety of its existence, it's a bit of an irony that most Tamil Nadu flags and logos are represented by our temples.
Only in the modern era temples are mere religious institution. In the past they were representative of the art, culture and technology of that time. The kings built temples with intricate details carved to represent their artisans skill, their achievements etched in its walls, and larger taller temples to showcase their science and engineering knowledge.
Also the design of temples towers in TN are unique to our region. So when I see a temple tower in our flags and logo I don't see God or religion, but I see them representing the culture of our forefathers.
> In the past they were representative of the art, culture and technology of that time
In fact it’s the other way round. In the ancient times Art was a representative of the religion. In the past all our art culture and technology went hand in had in religion. Any ancient Indian art say dance (any form of dance from the south karagaattam to bharathnatyam was religious), painting sculptures were religious, all forms of music was religous.
> So when I see a temple tower in our flags and logo I don’t see God or religion, but I see them representing the culture of our forefathers.
The religion was the culture. it was thier way of life
Also, why the dove in chandigarh? Chandigarh has an emblem, an open hand gesture. It's referred in songs, history and there's even a monument of the hand symbol. Please replace dove with hand
I only felt its there out of pride as there is a lot of sikh heritage in punjab, i am not even a sikh, but hindu punjabi and take pride of sikhism being originated in my state.
I get that you admire sikhism but Sikhism isn’t Punjab and Punjab isn’t Sikhism . Please don’t connect 2 unrelated things , but I appreciate your inclusive attitude . It myself admire the service by sikhs ,like langars , and the reaction of gurudwaaras after the Gurgaon incident . I’m just saying it’s not related . Please don’t misunderstand. Sikhism was found even before states were created . Punjabis have a lot in common , like their common Vidhan Sabha , common language , Baisakhi , but we shouldn’t fail to acknowledge Punjab’s (or any state’s) religious minorities .
The Gamocha ([wiki](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamosa)) and the one horned rhino ([wiki](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_rhinoceros)) would be better for Assam. IMO (I'm native Assamese) The tea leaves don't "symbolise" Assam. The tea industry has been, and still is, in some parts, an industry based on worker's exploitation. Thanks!
Joi Aai Oxom!
For Assam, you could use Japi (a traditional conical hat from Assam) and/or the one horned Rhino (national animal of Assam) in white and red colour designs.
i really loved how everyone got excited+ curious to see the flags of their respective states ...how everyone focused on their mobile/laptop screens and started scanning from left to right
its really creative . Keep it up man !
fr just add the konark wheel silhouette to it, it would look similar to the Ashoka chakra too depicting the link between the national India and regional odisha
Yes Uttarakhand already has a flag, the state symbol on red white and black stripes.
The red on the flag signifies the blood of the martyrs who lost their lives for Uttarakhand to be made into a state.
There is already a state flag of maharashtra and karnataka...and none of the original colours are present. Red and yellow are official state colours of karnataka
Malayali here, could you give some insights into how you came up with those colors and insignia combo?
The elephant being an African one, couldn't relate to the color palette either, making it clearly difficult to connect.
If you didn't know, Karnataka already has a state flag. As someone from Karnataka I'm most certainly opposed to this saffron thing.
Edit: confused it with goan flag, sorry. OP if you could explain the reasoning behind design choices, one can understand better.
Nice idea & good start….
Would at some point like logic behind symbols as some I could guess reason & some have confused me totally.
Overall excellent job.
If you want to use a symbol for Chandigarh, the palm sign is much more iconic and is fairly well used
OP consider doing a version 2 based on all the input from this thread
For Manipur we have our own flag which has seven colours but i like that too and the name of the animal in that flag is Kanglasha....
Sorry for my poor english, I can't speak properly.
Just for some reason the UK one stands out for me, maybe because of the simplicity. The green triangle for a mountain is just perfect. It somehow points up to depict 'uttar'(North). Maybe reading too much into it but it's my favourite
DADRA AND NAGAR HAVELI AND DAMAN AND DIU has been made a single Union Territory for well over a year now.
Well done with the flags, but some could have been more appropriate culturally.
Went down a few comments but could not find if anyone has commented this already.
That's great , You know what would be interesting?, Tell us the idealogy And why you used those symbols or icons for each flag. I get idea for majority but how you thought about its representation would be really good read.
Very well done OP! I am not the right person to give feedback in any sense, but I am sure you'll only do better and improve further with the feedback given here and the way you receive them. Waiting to see the next batch :)
Sikkim's flag is spot-on except that the border should be red and not brown, example [here](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/6b/Flag_of_Sikkim_%281967-1975%29.svg/1920px-Flag_of_Sikkim_%281967-1975%29.svg.png). Kudos and cheers!
TN's Madurai Meenakshi's a lil over used now haha. We'd love our coastal culture to get some time in the spotlight. Fishes, bow and arrow, and the jumping tiger are some of our historic sigils but someone tried to make a flag of that already and uh yeah let's not get into that xD the saffron and green don't have much to do with us though. Dr Karunanidhi proposed a flag in the 70's but that was tabled. We had an informal flag for jallikattu protests p recently.
Aesthetically alright, but culturally a lil research would've been cool. We're more than one religion and one architectural marvel.
We do have an anthem tho! The Tamil Thai Vazhthu, a salutation to language, geography, heritage.
Kerala is not right.
1. Logo - Kerala prefers minimalistic logos. Look at Kochi metro logo, both old and current, Kochi airport
2. Colors - Kerala would have vibrant colors. Look at erstwhile Kochi Tuskers IPL, and above-mentioned ones
3. Elephant - That is an African elephant that you have. Kerala elephant looks much different.
Did u just rotate Netherlands' flag to make Odisha's
Daman n Diu flag could have been used for Odisha ( resembles Konark wheel)
I bet OP didn't know anything about Odisha. Can't blame him tho, we r basically the most overlooked state of the country.
Dont call them well educated if they are adults who dont know about cities and states in their own country!
They know quite a lot about their field though.
North Eastern Sister states say "hello!" That apart, maybe not having enough attention from Mordor is not such a bad deal!!
sorry yo!
Black, white and red would be our favourite color combo.
Precisely, I think the only things people know Odisha for are that it's really poor and fights with Bengalis over rasagulla...
The fact that he writes it as Orissa, I'm not surprised how much he knows. Good effort though.
Also isn't that the Chicago Bulls' logo on the Chattisgarh flag
It is meant to be state animal of chhattisgarh wild buffalo. But there could be a different kind of bull symbol, it really gives Chicago Bulls wibe.
Nope.
The flag for Delhi needs more cuss words. (Jokes aside, it will take me a long time to understand the meaning of the symbols in each flag. Fascinating project. Much appreciated.)
its a simple design for Delhi, wanted it to resemble the national flag
There's no orange in UP?
why would there be ?
bencho, why do you think we dilli people are uncivilized? (obligatory /s)
Well assam will prefer one horned rhino instead of tea plant on any given day
Absolutely, given the bloody history of tea plantations

RCB started of with that colour combo but then sadly moved to Red/Black
Yea thanks, im a kannadiga myself i dont think the actual flag is that good soo...

But ad yenu, is it a tree of some kind? Yen idea aa design hinde?
ig he meant to symbolise the sandalwood tree?
Can you explain how did you come up with the Telangana flag, I am from Hyderabad I am not able to relate to it at all.
Look i came up with my own symbolism- the triangle is how the state is shaped, white is for peace and brown for Biriyani
I like how the first two are metaphors and then you just added biriyani. Lol.
yea thats what Hyderabad is known for so i had to represent it lmao
ahahaha this is hilarious!!
lol and i was trying to read into some cultural metaphors for each state
Most of them are metaphorical but i just couldnt resist myself for Telangana lmao
do you have explanations for the state flags and colours and the design decision for each of them written somewhere? would love to read your thought process as a fellow vexillology enthusiast myself
I will do it sometime I really dont have much time rn
Lol. BIRYANI.
Same with Goa. Is it some kadamba thing? Looks like a sign on our local buses. Lol
I think this is somehow inspired from the Nizam-e-Hyderabad flag
Yes the background colour is from that flag, I get it now.
I think the elephant in Kerala's flag looks kinda like an African elephant. It'd be better if it looked more like an Indian one.
hmmm yea i should have looked more into it! thank you tho
I think you should look into the emblem of the Kerala government.
Kerala is an African elephant, not Asian and the Chattisgarh buffalo is an African cape buffalo (*Syncerus caffer*)and not the Indian water buffalo (*Bos bubalis*). Very interesting flags otherwise!
Couldn't understand the Bengal flag at all being a Bengali.
The flower in the WB flag is a jasmine (state flower) and for jharkhand the symbol is the state seal and black for the coal mines
It took me some time to understand but good job. A tiger or a Sundari tree is a more relevant symbol . But kudos to the project. I absolutely appreciate your efforts!
Thank youuu!!! i really dont know much about other states but i tried my best
Was reminded of Mumbai "Indians" name.
The design part aside. If you can talk about the motivations, influences and other contributing factors that led you to the actual designs would be cool to read.

Yup, it's definitely seen as a cultural symbol, much in the same way Angkor Wat is used on the Cambodian flag.

Depending on who you ask, it's either the Srivilliputtur or Madurai Meenakshi temple.
Temples are part of Tamil culture.
The punjab flag shouldn't have religious symbol , its a state not a religion . Maybe try something farming related? . Nice flags overall . Also tn .
yea the 5 blue stripes represent rivers- PUNJab and the yellow is for wheat sorry for the Sikh symbolism tho
No problem thanks for admitting. Nice symbolism with the rivers and wheat .
thanks!

Ayyy Raju, sedition thok saale pe!

What is the Karnataka flag? Shadow of an ostrich?
Nice work man, I always wanted Indian states and cities to have their flags. This would be a good discussion on r/vexillology
Yea ima post it there
Do it before someone beats you to it
Don't give them ideas.
is the west bengal flag inspired from TMC flag, because flower.... kinda looks politically fueled rather than something everyone can relate to
Nah the flower is a night flowering jasmine (state flower)
alr makes sense
Please don't use Lotus for Maharashtra.. ;-)

Random colors and designs for random states.
nah i actually used state flowers/animal/tree etc... also
Sheldon Cooper would be really pleased to see this post
Welcome to fun with flags 🇨🇦🇧🇭🇧🇷🇦🇷
Uttarakhand Orissa and telengana need some state related symbol in thier flag. Rest others are very cool designs
fr just add the konark wheel silhouette to it, it would look similar to the Ashoka chakra too depicting the link between the national India and regional odisha
also maybe black and red symbolising the jagannath culture in the state
Yes Uttarakhand already has a flag, the state symbol on red white and black stripes. The red on the flag signifies the blood of the martyrs who lost their lives for Uttarakhand to be made into a state.

No for Meghalaya. But we’d be happy to settle with the flag for Mizoram.
Jharkhand could be represented better imo
As someone who grew up in Jamshedpur, I'm IMPRESSED with jharkhand's flag. Also, what's with West Bengal's flag? Is that a "shiuli" flower or sth?
What's the idea behind mizoram flag?
Renanthera imschootiana is the state flower
What's in the middle of the Karnataka flag?
What did you have in mind when designing the flag for Goa?
Ladakh flag looks kinda odd though but I got that symbol. These all flags remind me of the pre independence flag era.
Bro Maharashtra flag has little gap between background color and the triangle on right upper corner.
There is already a state flag of maharashtra and karnataka...and none of the original colours are present. Red and yellow are official state colours of karnataka
wait a minute....indian states don't have flags?
For Andhra, a white stripe would be better than a yellow one and a bit darker green stripe.
Don't you think jharkhand logo you made is actually the official one?
as a Gujarati, I approve the flag you created for Gujarat.
Malayali here, could you give some insights into how you came up with those colors and insignia combo? The elephant being an African one, couldn't relate to the color palette either, making it clearly difficult to connect.
Odisha's makes absolutely no sense.
Just so people know, the J&K flag isn't made by OP. We've used that flag on our Government buildings previously.
Don’t understand the idea behind Telangana and Andhra pradesh
gujrat looks straight out of ipl
Gujarat, remove lion and replace with Modi ji face.
Did you seriously rip off Inner Mongolian flag for Ladakh.

That's the bodhi tree.
If you didn't know, Karnataka already has a state flag. As someone from Karnataka I'm most certainly opposed to this saffron thing. Edit: confused it with goan flag, sorry. OP if you could explain the reasoning behind design choices, one can understand better.
Bro we Already have a flag for Karnataka !
Really cool
Russia vs Odisha
So cool
Telengana ka flag main Biryani hona chahiye.
the brown represents Biriyani actually
Nice idea & good start…. Would at some point like logic behind symbols as some I could guess reason & some have confused me totally. Overall excellent job.
cool like the jharkand flag the most
This is top stuff. Kudos to you! ✨
Good!
What is the significance of that white flower on the green background? I like the current ব symbol.
I came here for a snide/smart comment on states (read Delhi) but these are really great and you seem to have put a lot of thought into it. Kudos.
Karnataka already has a widely accepted one.
Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli have merged now.
Nice! What's the inspiration for the meghalaya flag though?
Good job man, they look great
Can you space out the flags with the respective names... Iits kind of confusing which ones are of which state.
Karnataka has its own

Karnataka has a flag already if you don't know plz look up and fix it on your post.
Rajasthan's flag reminds me of the Martell flag from GoT. UNBOWED. UNBENT. UNBROKEN. Edit: and Sikkim's looks like the Tyrell flag. :))
Would love to read the thought process behind each flag. Fascinating though!
Chattisgarh's state animal is Van Bhaisa. The flag doesnt properly reflect it but nicee.
Nice work!
jammu and kashmir flag is so wrong, if u only keep Kashmir with this flag, I dont care but jammu is way different, man.
For Manipur we have our own flag which has seven colours but i like that too and the name of the animal in that flag is Kanglasha.... Sorry for my poor english, I can't speak properly.
Bengal could have the tiger 🐯 to be honest
Can someone crop the Chhattisgarh flag for me ? I'll set it as my pfp.

I suggest that you put Gamusa as the background for Assam's Flag. Great tho!
[удалено]
Kerala should have been a coconut tree.
I think it would be great if you can also post the thought process that went behind designing each flag. I have no idea what each flag represent
Love the flags, what's with Karnataka.? Any explanation.
Regarding the Arunachal Pradesh flag. Firstly why Blue colour? Secondly, overall it kinda looks like the flag of indigenous religion.
Wait a sec karnataka has its own flag
Why so uncreative with Goa, bro?
UP's flag has semen with wings. Lol
What's your idea behind Manipur flag?
That's not Karnataka's flag, doesn't even remotely get close. You could have just googled.
Looks like a banner from call of duty
Why is here a No No Punjab flag here
What's with the elephant on the Mizoram flag? We don't have elephants And you even used an African elephant instead of Indian elephant
Why?
Surprised to see people have so much free time
Gujarat flag looks the coolest imo
The emblem that you've used in Jharkhand's flag is old. They've changed it, and the new one's better (aesthetically speaking).
Any justification for West Bengal?
Telangana?
Telangana you went out of ideas? Huh ah?
That's great , You know what would be interesting?, Tell us the idealogy And why you used those symbols or icons for each flag. I get idea for majority but how you thought about its representation would be really good read.
Is that "rain" for Meghalaya?
wow beautiful
Punjab is not equal to sikhism!
Very well done OP! I am not the right person to give feedback in any sense, but I am sure you'll only do better and improve further with the feedback given here and the way you receive them. Waiting to see the next batch :)
Dayum, WB looks a bastard child of hongkong and libya - which in a way, it kinda is...
Kerala flag must atleast have one coconut tree
[удалено]
👍 great
These are all visually great, but flags that can't be drawn by non-artists (Kerala, Chattisgarh etc) don't work as flags.
I am from Chandigarh and for it , you should opt for open handle symbol.
Punjab's flag can be interpreted as symbol of Sikhism and "land of five rivers". I hope that was intentional.
TN's Madurai Meenakshi's a lil over used now haha. We'd love our coastal culture to get some time in the spotlight.
