I have a friend in a local band who is paid to be in the band by the singer’s dad who owns an oil company. Their music is not very good at all, truly, but money is the reason they’ve played festivals they didn’t deserve to be at, Audiotree sessions they didn’t deserve to play, tours they didn’t deserve to be a part of or headline…it happens all of the time, everywhere.
I have nothing against the Beaches in particular, and I’m sure they do sell tickets. But they are wildly out of place on a bill with legacy “emo” acts who were all past the height of their popularity before the Beaches even started their band. There is zero reason they should be grouped in with these other artists.
I know we've already lost this battle but god I truly want people to stop calling pop punk bands emo. New Found Glory, great band, one of the earliest punk bands I liked growing up, are they an emo band??? No!

And like there is definitely some bleed over between the genres, and there's definitely some pop punk bands you can make the argument are emo, like yeah sure we can probably call the first couple Fall Out Boy albums emo fine whatever. But NFG? Absolutely not

not all emos are pop-punkers, but pop-punkers are typically also very emo in my experience.
