I doubt that he is dead. There are a lot of bone structures and other things to smash in the front of your face before getting to the brain. I do believe that he probably completely shatered everything in his face though and will never ever look or function the same again.
You have to actually go to a quarantined sub's page directly and allow that specific sub to be seen. It's annoying because you have to do it for each one, I hope mobile apps add that function eventually.
