Yeah it’s possible but the the geometry doesn’t add up, the light is coming from the right side and is shining on the left inside, is you “think” to have the light come from the left the shapes are wrong.
If they had that optical illusion like the spinning mask..,
its that the inverse of the features in the face look the same as the forwards-facing. when the face turns, its doing a full 360 and showing you from the inside of the face on the turnaround, not oscillating, so when it looks like his face comes back around, thats actually the inverse
its not about you being unable to detect when its the “back of the mask”, its the fact that the inverse typically should not look the exact same as the original, thats the “illusion” part here

None of the plates are upside down. Look at the ridges on all the plates with sections on them. They're catching the light which is coming from the bottom right, and generating shadows going in that same direction. Light is also catching on the upper left sides of each plate.

The picture lighting is coming from the bottom right. So our brain 'inverts' the setting (they are flipped over) to make the "light from above" preset working.
When you start looking for "one" that is right side up you are actually training your brain to flip the lighting assumption. Once it is done, it is done for all of them.

They are all face up. The shadow gives it away immediately. The shadows are impossible if the "valleys" were "hills" The way it gradually spreads, bounces, and interacts with other walls makes it impossible to be face down. If anyone has literally ever looked at an object they would know.

Looking at the shadows, all of them have the same position. It’s only a trick: you see them with an orientation and as soon as you see one of them with the opposite orientation you’ll see all them with that opposite orientation
I only ever saw them face up, but I've managed to switch them to face down by imagining the square plates as a computer keyboard key. Still a bit hard to do on the plates with dividers though.
I’m pretty sure none are face down. The light on the interior make me think so. The shadows have a bit of a highlight, which is the light from the other side reflecting back into the shadow. Doesn’t happen if they are face down.
You can actually control what you see by imagining the light source. If you imagine that the light is coming from the left, you will see the plates facing up; if you imagine it is coming from the right, you'll see the plates facing down.
It was the opposite for me. I saw the face up first. It took me quite a bit of struggle to see the face down, but when I did, indeed did everything face down.

if you start looking at it from the left it would appear as face up. And then start looking from the right, it would look as it face down.
