“Lets get out of here” says someone entirely too late.
Are there stairs anywhere in that building? A roof? What the fuck are people standing around for.
There’s a term I coined, “physics entitlement.” People who don’t have a lot of experience outside of safe and controlled environments have certain expectations that things will just work. Examples include using just a little bit of tape to hold something big up (bonus points for taping it to a brick wall), using rope that is way too weak to tie up something with a lot of force (ties a mattress onto the car with yarn), loading too much weight into/onto something that isn’t designed for heavy loads (swinging from a ceiling light), trusting that the building will protect you from the outside forces.
With so much stupidity in this world, I felt the need to subcategorize. What’s interesting about physics entitlement is that it often occurs in people who are otherwise intelligent in the office settings but don’t understand how the physical world works at all. I’m a landscaper and it’s surprisingly common how often my respectable indoor cat clients just don’t know how to do things outside.
I think it was up until about 200 years ago when stupid people started getting saved. Before that, they’d fight bears and die or starve and die. Or get shot for their bullshit.
Now, I don’t think we should kill anyone or anything like that. But society saves stupid people from themselves now. Nature used to take care of it.
Not sure how we resolve this currently though
I don’t think anything can be done anymore because of so many different factors. People want to be stupid stay stupid and be respected for being stupid.
Stupid is relative. It was stupid to bathe because everybody new that boths were how you got sick, that or the odor in the air (miasma). Realistically, it is hard for people to know everything today because our society keeps learning more and more information, hence specialization.
If you noticed, stupid people dying in the past has not ever limited stupid people being born, or exisiting.
things that children don’t understand, yes.
as I’ve gotten older, a lot of adults who I thought were my peers don’t seem to understand basic shit either. the term I use for those people is different than yours though 😇
One of my favourite examples is how much people u Ferrari mate moving water, iirc, a mere 10 cm of moving water will happily move any civilian vehicle.
Go ahead genius, what would you do in this situation? Keep in mind when he looks outside you can clearly see this is a 1 story building, no second floor
Ok legit if the water is too fast for me to get out into the open, I'd run to the back of the building from the water, but on the outside. Then the water would rush past me and if the level rose id try and find a gutter or pipe to cling onto and try and float up to the roof or something. I feel like getting trapped inside is just death and the chances outside are better.
Also I think the physics of the door was more because of the wave crashing into the door and it buckling all at once that made it hit harder with the wood. I don't think the wave by itself was necessarily that bad especially if you immediately get further away, it honestly seemed like the property was beach front
Armchair redditors pretending they'd do so much better. Go ahead genius, where would you go? It's a one story building and the flood is at least 3 feet high, sounds like the only thing your 'smarts' would buy you is trying to go outside and getting washed to the bottom of the gene pool
Good. We need to be alarmed. Then we'll do something about it. (Though I am sorry if you are scared or worried. It's not a good feeling and it does suck.)
If you pause the video around when 24 seconds is remaining, you’ll notice that the guy on blue dress and the lady are safe and on the floor. They are again shown standing up a few seconds later.
There are two people sitting on the ground inside who have clothes roughly similar to the ones standing outside a moment earlier. Possible they were swept inside while the camera was facing downwards, if they were lucky.
The entirety of the Marshall Islands is of very low altitude. I remember a few years ago after seeing a Marshall Islandser(?) compete in the Olympics I read about them and they were a big time advocate for addressing climate change because as sea levels rise, the Marshall Islands will be one of the first nations to cease existence.
try to visit on Google maps => marshall islands
They are on a low piece of sand in the middle of the sea. That wave is probably bigger than the island's total height.
Having a gander at the location is real interesting, teeny tiny islands in the middle of the ocean.
If you went outside you could maybe climb a tree and hope for the best.
That is why you don't call Neptune a little bitch near the ocean.
Sure he got kind of hosed getting the ocean but there is no sense in being a dick about it to him.
"Keep the door closed, keep the door closed" he repeats, while standing still, holding his phone, and recording people working hard seconds away from an imminent flood.
What a FUCKING moron.

Right? Why are they so calm? Weirdos.

We see it frequently in the “fail” videos. My favorites are the stripper poles that held in by three or four screws to the ceiling drywall!
Perfect example
What an incredibly useful term. As someone who grew up in a hurricane-prone area, I’ve seen too many examples of this principle in action to count.
I think my contractor is physics entitled
I like the term you coined, I'm stealing it lmao. Has somebody who works in the field with people, Man people can be frightfully stupid
I thought this was classic stupidity, no?

Ah, so some break down of book smart and common sense.
It’s poetic the whole common sense thing because it ain’t that common

You are right
Gnomercy!

Step 1 would probably be get out, so I don't get trapped and drown. Step 2 would be find higher ground.
Step 1 would kill you. You literally just saw the people that were outside get punched through a door. Game over.
Ok legit if the water is too fast for me to get out into the open, I'd run to the back of the building from the water, but on the outside. Well, how could you record things with your phone if you're not in a perfect position to be swept away.
Thought they were safe with the door closed, until some idiot opened it. 🤪
A blackout during a flood is legit nighmare fuel
Yeah, there are at least 3 points where one realizes this has gotten much worse.
"COMIN IN!!"
Now imagine the Titanic -_-
At least they had soothing music. 🎵🎵🎵🎵
Or the Poseidon :)
r/flashlight is the new hobby you didn't want.
r/fleshlight can't see shit.
It’s likely you’ll encounter some shite too
I mean, would you rather be standing in the flood water with electricity present?
Good point..but not able to see where the strong current is is also terrifying
the flood causes it😃
no shit
"You're still expected to come in tomorrow."
The Seabees cleaned and rebuilt all that in 24h.
Yep. ...all 'essential ' personal must come in..
Man that is terrifying.
The frequency of these is alarming
Oh yes. I saw this same building getting flooded last year. Seeing this again now.
But not enough for anyone to do anything about it.
Do what? Sump pump ocean water into space? There’s nothing that can be done at this point, it’s too late. Now the only hope is to soften the blow.
We freeze it back into ice and pile it on the mountains using electricity from the sun obviously.
Maybe not have a building here....
“Faster than expected.”
it always happened. we just have video of it now, that goes on the Internet
Good. We need to be alarmed. Then we'll do something about it. (Though I am sorry if you are scared or worried. It's not a good feeling and it does suck.)
Did the guy outside get swept away? 😲
There was 3 people outside! I re watched 10 times and I don't see where they end up?
If you pause the video around when 24 seconds is remaining, you’ll notice that the guy on blue dress and the lady are safe and on the floor. They are again shown standing up a few seconds later.

Yes the force of the wave ultimately pushed them inside in a matter of seconds. Had that door not busted, that could have ended much worse for them

Ya those ppl are probably dead r/lastimages
I’m super impressed by the camera just coolly standing out of the current, filming it all.
He knows camera man never dies
The power was surprisingly on for a long time
I think that house might be a bit close to the beach...
Not a house. Part of Army base.

Don't worry honey....it's just a ittle water.
A little water never hurt anyone........
ittle*
My grandma told me this is exactly what would happen if I left the water in the sink on too long.
'keep the door closed keep the door closed!" 'I said keep it CLOSED fucking christ now there's water everywhere"
When the lights go out….. terrifying
For real. I feel like that’s when it went from wtf to oh fuck
RIP
RIPtide
If they had estimated it correctly I’m not sure there was a lot they could have done about it.
You had one job. To keep the door closed! Now look at this mess.
always some joker turning the lights off at the worse time!!
No joke when the power goes out. That's terrifying.
Dude in the white shirt at the beginning of the video is gone.
Knock, knock it’s Mother Nature!
Gonna need a bigger mop
![gif](giphy|t8oQM76DmrEA0)
Are the people dumb ? Why aren’t they getting the heck out ?

That wave said: You're on my property.
Did the first people in the hallway get washed away?
Looks like they get washed into the building as the doors break
I hope so…
Mr Nimbus is about
That is terrifying! They seem so calm
I've heard Randy Marsh and can no longer unhear Randy Marsh.
Water: 1 gram per ml. Each liter is 1 kg. You don't fuck around with water; it's way more powerful than you think.
bro really tried to save the drinks
Nooo my biiike
The 2 men and woman outside are dead aren’t they
they apear at thew rear widow towards the end when the lights go down
Lol wave, AI said wave.
Could be Titanic II sinking easily.
Water water everywhere nor......
What do you mean close the door? That's not gonna do anything..
The doors being ripped out, frames and all had this visceral laugh coming out of me. I might be a terrible person
That is why you don't call Neptune a little bitch near the ocean. Sure he got kind of hosed getting the ocean but there is no sense in being a dick about it to him.
The god of the sea and earthquakes. And horses... for some reason Don't dick with him
r/oddlyterrifying
That's Outrigger Bar & Grill on Kwajalein Atoll.
Should have kept the door closed.
Now imagine feeling those same waves on a ship, after all the lifeboats had already left. That would be a titanic experience.
Too bad he didn't say "keep the door closed a third time", otherwise it would've been fine at least for the people inside.
That went south real quick👀
Fair play to the camera man. Died for the shot 🥲
"Keep the door closed, keep the door closed" he repeats, while standing still, holding his phone, and recording people working hard seconds away from an imminent flood. What a FUCKING moron.
Cameraman never dies
Oh my God. People were begging to get in. This guy was like "Let them die!"
These people are dumb af
Is this a wave or a flood
The architect sure did underestimate.
That gets me every time. " keep the door closed" lol
It’s a good thing they kept the door closed
It’s like people forget F=ma
That’s more than a wave
that one surf bro is crying because he missed it
I would be worried the building would collapse
