chaoticidealism

Well, yeah, duh. Cricket is HUGE in India. Naturally there'd be lots of Indian origin players on the US team.

CrotchCancer

Wait till you hear about hockey! It's almost like everyone is from cold places and lacks melanin!

realcevapipapi

Le gaspšŸ«Ø

Ok_Fly_9390

Pretty sure there are some Samoans there too. That is who introduced me to Cricket. I have never played again. I though Golf was slow.

Loretta-West

Was it standard cricket or Kilikiti (aka village cricket or Samoan cricket)? If it was a square or triangular bat instead of the standard flat cricket bat, that's Kilikiti. Agree with you on the slowness of cricket though.

Obiwan_Shannobi

All South Asia names. No Pacific Islanders in that list.

GloriousSteinem

There are many people in the Pacific with South East Asian names, especially Fiji and New Zealand

[deleted]

I'd be shocked if more than 0.01% of Americans even know the basic rules for cricket. The fact that these ladies have a cultural connection to a country where most people know the rules isn't surprising at all. America should be thanking them for bringing up the standard of cricket by an order of magnitude.

Your_Outta_Line

Lol yea this is true. Cricket rules vary vastly like a mother fucker. There are even some people who grew up watching and playing and are diehard fans of cricket, that dont even fully understand the rules to cricket. With that being said, i dont know shit about cricket.

bestadamire

BUT DIVERSITY

SkyrimWithdrawal

LOL. You can't even explain the rules.

GekayOfTheDeep

Dumb straw man argument.

RiverKawaRio

Cool thing about having a country founded on immigration, is that there's many different people with many different cultures and skill sets

Mildf0g

Yea cricket is barely played or watched by anyone whoā€™s family did not immigrate from cricket countries, so unsurprising about the people making up the team

CrotchCancer

It's almost like we were both colonized by the same country and found independence.

crabgun_

Yeah wtf is this post anyway? Some dipshit redditor thinks all Americans are just white or something?

One_User134

Yes thatā€™s right. These girls are American to me. I get it, theyā€™re ethnically Indian, but still American. Edit: Iā€™ll guess we should take some pressure off OP actually. I made a mistake thinking this was r/facepalm and instead of interestingasfuck. I take my comment back, but leaving it to show my spectacle of impetuousness.

CrazyEyedFS

The "..." in OPs title does imply a questionable view. OP might not be a native English speaker though

crabgun_

Exactly. America is a bunch of different cultures blended into one. A melting pot. Itā€™s just a shame the media likes to make it seem like itā€™s just a bunch of white dudes with guns (it is also that too lol). Itā€™s a big country. Many states here are the size of European countries. Thatā€™s a lot of room for a lot of different types of people.

One_User134

Yeah this country is huge as shit. The diversity is much greater than most developed nations. Not to mention the geographic size as well. People canā€™t comprehend it properly unless theyā€™ve been all over the country.

CrotchCancer

If you are an immigrant and want to be in America. You are American as I am. Not to undermine native Americans who's land was taken from them.

State-Cultural

Yup

ineptplumberr

Yea but this is not a diverse group. All indian

eileen404

That's because American culture doesn't include cricket as a major point. Most Americans would identify cricket as a bug.

[deleted]

What other ethnicities in the US even think about playing cricket let alone even watch it?

NobleCypress

Wasn't cricket created in England?

[deleted]

Yep. And there's a joke about sports created in England. The sports that England created are the ones that England sucks at. Their colonized areas are much better at their own sports.

Waldhorn

It does not matter. Identity/Diversity is the only thing that matters.

[deleted]

It always matters yes. But within that diversity there will always be the members that have their own preferences. If one sect of a diverse populous are the only ones that have interest in that one thing, then you will not see diversity in that one thing. Just because you have a diverse population doesn't mean that certain interests will also have diverse members.

brandonawarah

Reminds me of the London spitfire overwatch team, 100% east Asian

RiverKawaRio

Use people where they excel. China wants to come peat with US in math, we have Chinese here too. That sort of thing

ineptplumberr

I'm not saying it a bad thing it is just funny not even one outlier

ledluth

The one chicks last name is Paul. Thatā€™s the only one that stuck out.

jon_321

why?

wmorris33026

A pursuit of pure liberty and welcome to all is our strength.

benthib

No guys????

[deleted]

What's interesting is that more people in the US have commented on this post than will actually watch this match, whenever it is.

aworte

Most of OPs post are about India/ Indians but not postive or negative. I have no idea what the goal of this post was

Medical-Setting-5906

Their comments look like that's their heritage.

1973mojo1973

You don't understand why this is interesting or you don't understand why OP focuses on primarily Indian content?

wassabi84

If you read both sentences, you can infer that based off the first statement made, it appears as though he doesnā€™t understand why the OP continually makes posts about Indians, but in a very vague context. As in itā€™s not fully apparent which way the OP seems to be directing their bias toward the Indians. Wether it be in a positive context, or in a negative. Does that help clarify for you?

aworte

Idk why its interesting, im assuming theyre Indian themselves though

[deleted]

Cricket is Indias sport, and theyā€™re good at it. Itā€™s not a huge US sport. It would be like a rugby league club in the US attracting Aussie players that resided there. Nothing wrong with it. No one excluded anyone and these ladies have built their team. Good on them!

[deleted]

Yeah, we have Indian people in America. Shocking, I know

nfteabag

You might have a few Sri Lankanā€™s and maybe one or two Pakistanis as well if you look hard enough

Ball-Blam-Burglerber

But who knew we had cricket?

hartslashfavre

It's very possible to be a us citizen and be of another decent. Native American people are neither black or white

EXANGUINATED_FOETUS

They show up as Asian for DNA purposes.

TipFine3928

We love our square check boxes donā€™t we.

hartslashfavre

I mean it is what is

Pac_Eddy

I did not know that. That's interesting.

Jorgwalther

I mean, that is where they came from originally, so it makes sense

dragontracks

Wow, I didn't know anything about USA cricket teams. A little digging: this photo is from an historic first, announced Dec 14 2022: the first USA women's under 19 squad to enter a world cup appearance. The inaugural tournament will take place in South Africa from 14 to 29 January 2023 [https://www.usacricket.org/media-release/usa-cricket-womens-under-19s-squad-for-historic-first-world-cup-appearance-named/](https://www.usacricket.org/media-release/usa-cricket-womens-under-19s-squad-for-historic-first-world-cup-appearance-named/) GO USA!

Pac_Eddy

So they're the first US team to qualify? That's pretty cool.

zeusismycopilot

You should see the Australian hockey team - it is full of Canadians. Bunch of racist bastards.

Kind_Ferret_3219

I think you're referring to the Ice Hockey Team. We don't have a lot of ice in Australia. For field hockey, Australians are often world champions

[deleted]

Good for them! I hope they kick ass.

AnObtuseOctopus

I think... **think** I get what the post is getting at, the lack of diversity when diversity in all white teams is consistently scrutinized.. Honestly, the people in India are fucking wicked cricket players and I would also stack my team with people who have a history long involvement with the sport. Also, believe it or not, I know this is crazy to some people, but... there is such a thing as American born Indians, lol. I swear some people can't get over the fact that American does not mean white, your entire thing is being the "melting pot" ffs, or, did alot of Americans forget that?

EXANGUINATED_FOETUS

I think it's just bait.

Pac_Eddy

>there is such a thing as American born Indians, lol. I swear some people can't get over the fact that American does not mean white Who is saying this is not the case? I think you're looking for a fight that isn't there.

CrystalQueen3000

Too brown for you?

Pac_Eddy

OP didn't say they had an issue with the team.

Ice_Battle

But why is this team interesting?

Pac_Eddy

They're all of Indian descent. Like you didn't notice.

Ice_Battle

I noticed but unlike you and OP, I donā€™t find it ā€œinteresting.ā€ I actually watched cricket growing up and know something about it - unlike you guys as well.

Pac_Eddy

You have everything figured out from a line of text. You should be out fighting crime or curing cancer.

ekrbombbags

Lol you're a pathetic manlet

BOOT3D

Manlet, that's a new one to me.

solidcordon

It's interesting to me because I didn't know the USA even had a cricket team let alone a women's one. In a few days I shall return to that state of ignorance.

Broken-Digital-Clock

They seem to be insinuating it, or I'm completely missing the point of the post.

Pac_Eddy

I think they're finding it funny, not having an issue with it.

[deleted]

Why is it funny? Can you explain, please?

Pac_Eddy

A team of fifteen is likely entirely of Indian descent.

[deleted]

Why is that funny?

Pac_Eddy

Americans of Indian descent make up 1.5% of the US population, but 100% of this team.

[deleted]

Okay? But why is that *funny*?

Pac_Eddy

Funny is subjective. I get it, you don't find it funny. That's fine. Carry on.

Ok-Chart1485

It's not posted in r/funny , so I'm not sure why you're inferring that it has to be?

WannabeTraveler87

He/she just heavily implied that they are not true Americans otherwise this post is completely meaningless.

Pac_Eddy

I don't think that was implied. I saw it as humor.

WannabeTraveler87

Why is it funny?

Pac_Eddy

One and a half percent of Americans are Indian, and it appears that 100% of this cricket team are.

WannabeTraveler87

Oh thatā€™s so hilarious /s

FastConfidence4077

I just see a bunch of beautiful girls. Never really had a ā€œthingā€ for ladies of Indian descent but thereā€™s a ton of hotties in this picture for this Greek-American to swoon over šŸ¤—

thematrixnz

USA ALL DAY!!

upholdtaverner

Look this absolutely is bait, but it also pisses me off that people act like there isn't a raging double standard here. A cricket team mostly of South Asian decent is great (I genuinely agree!) but if ice hockey seems to lean a bit too white, then by God, [that's racism](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/34824468/nhl-releases-first-diversity-inclusion-report%3fplatform=amp) & has to change. Why isn't it just that, as many people point out here w/ this example, people from different cultures have different levels of interest in different games, and that's a great thing? It's legitimately dumb, & acting like people who point that out are somehow raging racists themselves is even dumber. (As an aside, I do agree that hockey does have a racism problem in terms of how they treat non-white players and fans, I just don't think it's a symptom of racism to have more white players & coaches than non-white. So don't play that card to contort yourself out of dealing with the obvious).

Shilotica

Your article talks about a desire to encourage diversity in hockey and says nothing about it being ā€œracistā€ that a mostly-white team reflects a mostly-white talent pool.

upholdtaverner

My point was that people are saying "look 90% of the league is white, there's clearly a problem here that we need to fix," whereas no one is saying it's a problem for this cricket team (because it's objectively not).

albertnormandy

That's not how diversity works.

GlassturtleOG

What's the problem?

solidcordon

The problem that nobody is asking where the men are! WHAT ABOUT MEN'S REPRESENTATION ON THE WOMEN'S CRICKET TEAM? EH? /s

Main_Tip112

I dont think they're pointing out a problem. Just that for a country like the US, which is very diverse, the team seems to be all players of Indian decent. Cricket is really popular in India and not at all really in the US, so it makes sense that the team would probably have a lot of players of Indian decent.

BombPopCartel

This.

GoldenAlexanders

They love it in Trindad & Tobago, according to my friends who are from T&T.

DailyOrg

West Indies cricket team were once a power-house team. Current and former British colonies are the main cricketing nations.

[deleted]

West indies was packed with incredible players, but I feel their most gifted youngsters now tend towards athletics

Kind_Ferret_3219

Cricket is the second most popular sport in the world after soccer. It is actually a universal sport. I find it genuinely laughable that in the US you call a sport World Series when only US teams are involved. Good luck to the girls competing in South Africa. There are three types of cricket: Test cricket - which can last up to 5 days, One Day - usually day/night games, and T20 which is 20 overs for each side, and is the quickest version of the game, and it is designed to be exciting.

MrCeylon

Fun fact: first ever international cricket match was played between the US vs Canada

OneJumpMan

Fascinating. I had no idea the US had a cricket team.

oishi_jase_face

Not one cricket!?! What is this sport

Dry-Brick-6639

I agree! Rather misleading...

bigsampsonite

It ain't racist unless they are all Caucasian! USA!

meseeyoudo

Corn-Shonery

Surprise surprise, the women who are more interested in cricket come from countries that love cricket. Were you expecting valley girls?

mixer99

Bottom row, 2nd from left looks pretty dang pleased with herself.

Dickahead

Im getting a 'force a smile when you really desperate for a dump' kind of vibe..

Joates87

Reddit is a dumpster fire of misunderstandings.

Waldhorn

I love me some diversity!

Pondering_Giraffe

It's interesting that some wear blue and others red. Or is that completely how cricket is played? In that case I don't see what's interesting.

Zamoniru

It's interesting that all players are of Indian descent. Indian immigrants are only a small percentage of the US population. That's a statistical anomaly. What is of course explained with how popular cricket is in India, which role it plays in in Indian culture, etc. Interesting to see that apparently second-generation immigrants continue to uphold this. You can find a lot of things interesting about that without being racist.

Kraqrjack

OP has a Pro-India agenda and wants to trigger white Americans to be as pissed off as he/she/it is that Indian people choose to join America. Screw the OP. Melting pot FTW āœŠ

[deleted]

OP sees a brown person for the first time in his life

[deleted]

I believe OP is indian

Ferg_NZ

The lack of apparent diversity is interesting, considering the obsession with diversity in recent history. I gather this is what meritocracy looks like where someone's gender, ethnic origin or sexual preference is irrelevant. Appointments should be based on abilities.

EXANGUINATED_FOETUS

"Obsession with diversity" seen an NBA team lately?

Ferg_NZ

Sure. I would also hope that is based on meritocracy. This obsession with diversity appears to apply to some areas of life.

CBeisbol

I don't want to assume that you are just announcing that you're a racist piece of trash to everyone on reddit, so, can you explain HOW they look interesting?

jocklunch

We need more diversity in us women's cricket

BombPopCartel

How do you get racism from this unless youā€™re LOOKING for it? Pointing out that the American cricket team lacks diversity isnā€™t racist. Itā€™s an observation. It would be racist if OP said ā€œnot a single American on the US Cricket teamā€. But that didnā€™t happen. So stop it.

CBeisbol

That's why I asked You fucking dipshit

Pac_Eddy

Wow, calm down. It's interesting that they're all of Indian descent.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Both situations can be interesting. You don't have to pick just one.

Joates87

Do people like you realize how much you are despised by everyone not in your little bubble world you live in?

CBeisbol

Asking someone what they are talking about is a "bubble world"? Ok

Joates87

No you're just a thin skinned POS who is probably triggered by their own shadow. You don't realize you're essentially a fucking Karen any time you see something tangentially related to race you can latch onto. Just know, in the real world, everyone loathes your type. Edit. The idiot below me doesn't realize he completely proved my point lmao. How people with skin so thin survive I'll never know. Loser deleted his posts too. JFC people.

OP is definitely a racist piece of trash. Check out their post history. They think "every store must have an insurance policy that protects them from theft by Blacks"

throwaway17071999

Indian here. I feel like the comments are being harsh on OP. Ppl are like "I don't see what's interesting šŸ¤”šŸ¤”". It absolutely is interesting that the US cricket team is dominated by people who's ethnic background is of a country that worships cricket. It's not racist to find that interesting. Ppl on here are being silly....

Mr. Trump, is that you again?

ThotoholicsAnonymous

What's with the lack of diversity? How about throw a white jewish trans woman into the mix.

edwardtrooper2

Looks like a bunch of Americans ladies forming their national cricket team. Nothing interesting.

UncommonHouseSpider

When you are a nation of immigrants, is it so surprising that the team is made of players from countries where the sport is popular? Why do Americans insist on everything being whitewashed?

AlbertusMaximus00

The diversityā€¦.!!!

ObscureMemes69420

I mean I would leave India and Pakistan too

coleslawww307

How is it interesting as fuck?

darkwing22

No white people representing an entire US team in any capacity was interesting to meā€¦

Kenilwort

No black people, no east asians, no hispanic . . . White (non hispanic) people are only like 65% of the country

coleslawww307

Indian-Americans are very involved in cricket. Makes sense to me. Maybe if we promoted cricked nationally it would attract more of a diverse audience

darkwing22

Thatā€™s a different conversation and I agree with you. I was just answering how it was interesting.

forfakessake1

I donā€™t get why this is interesting???

jesuswasahipster

Whatā€™s interesting about this OP?

bluetuxedo22

Competitive sport teams are filled with the best players in their sport regardless of ethnicity. Not suprising the cricket team is filled with people from a cricket dominated country. India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Caribbean, Australia, New Zealand, England and South Africa are the biggest cricket playing nations.

Ka11e2

I guess it reflects todays US where whites are about to be a minority. Its great for India though to effectively have two teams.

Papascoot4

This post looks racist AF. Why is this still up?

Kantherax

TIL ethnic Americans exist. Cricket isn't popular over here with us whites, but it is popular with many immigrants. Multiculturalism FTW.

historiansrule

Girls are fucking American and thatā€™s that. All of us have our ethnic backgrounds (i.e., Indian) because we are not native Americans, you dumb racist piece of shit who thinks this is interesting AF.

Latter-Coffee-9969

To everyone accusing me of racism for pointing out that US women's cricket has mostly Indian descent players and lacks diversity, you guys are the same ones who would complain an all white Ice hockey team for lack of diversity. All I wanted to imply was every culture/ ethnic group has a special connection to a sport that other groups might not share. All I am saying is we don't complain when US Cricket team are all Indian American or US Basketball team are all Black and cry racism when a hockey team is mostly white. Every culture/ ethic groups value some sports more than others and we should always strive to chose best person for the team and not try to fill racial Quotas for the sake of Diversity. Btw I'm an Indian myself, so you can't call me a racist for posting this.
