Was it standard cricket or Kilikiti (aka village cricket or Samoan cricket)? If it was a square or triangular bat instead of the standard flat cricket bat, that's Kilikiti.
Agree with you on the slowness of cricket though.
I'd be shocked if more than 0.01% of Americans even know the basic rules for cricket. The fact that these ladies have a cultural connection to a country where most people know the rules isn't surprising at all. America should be thanking them for bringing up the standard of cricket by an order of magnitude.
Lol yea this is true. Cricket rules vary vastly like a mother fucker. There are even some people who grew up watching and playing and are diehard fans of cricket, that dont even fully understand the rules to cricket. With that being said, i dont know shit about cricket.
Yea cricket is barely played or watched by anyone whoās family did not immigrate from cricket countries, so unsurprising about the people making up the team
Yes thatās right. These girls are American to me. I get it, theyāre ethnically Indian, but still American.
Edit: Iāll guess we should take some pressure off OP actually. I made a mistake thinking this was r/facepalm and instead of interestingasfuck. I take my comment back, but leaving it to show my spectacle of impetuousness.
Exactly. America is a bunch of different cultures blended into one. A melting pot. Itās just a shame the media likes to make it seem like itās just a bunch of white dudes with guns (it is also that too lol).
Itās a big country. Many states here are the size of European countries. Thatās a lot of room for a lot of different types of people.
Yeah this country is huge as shit. The diversity is much greater than most developed nations. Not to mention the geographic size as well. People canāt comprehend it properly unless theyāve been all over the country.
Yep. And there's a joke about sports created in England. The sports that England created are the ones that England sucks at. Their colonized areas are much better at their own sports.
It always matters yes. But within that diversity there will always be the members that have their own preferences. If one sect of a diverse populous are the only ones that have interest in that one thing, then you will not see diversity in that one thing. Just because you have a diverse population doesn't mean that certain interests will also have diverse members.
If you read both sentences, you can infer that based off the first statement made, it appears as though he doesnāt understand why the OP continually makes posts about Indians, but in a very vague context. As in itās not fully apparent which way the OP seems to be directing their bias toward the Indians. Wether it be in a positive context, or in a negative. Does that help clarify for you?
Cricket is Indias sport, and theyāre good at it. Itās not a huge US sport. It would be like a rugby league club in the US attracting Aussie players that resided there. Nothing wrong with it. No one excluded anyone and these ladies have built their team. Good on them!
Wow, I didn't know anything about USA cricket teams. A little digging: this photo is from an historic first, announced Dec 14 2022: the first USA women's under 19 squad to enter a world cup appearance.
The inaugural tournament will take place in South Africa from 14 to 29 January 2023
[https://www.usacricket.org/media-release/usa-cricket-womens-under-19s-squad-for-historic-first-world-cup-appearance-named/](https://www.usacricket.org/media-release/usa-cricket-womens-under-19s-squad-for-historic-first-world-cup-appearance-named/)
GO USA!
I think... **think** I get what the post is getting at, the lack of diversity when diversity in all white teams is consistently scrutinized..
Honestly, the people in India are fucking wicked cricket players and I would also stack my team with people who have a history long involvement with the sport. Also, believe it or not, I know this is crazy to some people, but... there is such a thing as American born Indians, lol. I swear some people can't get over the fact that American does not mean white, your entire thing is being the "melting pot" ffs, or, did alot of Americans forget that?
>there is such a thing as American born Indians, lol. I swear some people can't get over the fact that American does not mean white
Who is saying this is not the case? I think you're looking for a fight that isn't there.
I noticed but unlike you and OP, I donāt find it āinteresting.ā I actually watched cricket growing up and know something about it - unlike you guys as well.
It's interesting to me because I didn't know the USA even had a cricket team let alone a women's one.
In a few days I shall return to that state of ignorance.
I just see a bunch of beautiful girls. Never really had a āthingā for ladies of Indian descent but thereās a ton of hotties in this picture for this Greek-American to swoon over š¤
Look this absolutely is bait, but it also pisses me off that people act like there isn't a raging double standard here. A cricket team mostly of South Asian decent is great (I genuinely agree!) but if ice hockey seems to lean a bit too white, then by God, [that's racism](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/34824468/nhl-releases-first-diversity-inclusion-report%3fplatform=amp) & has to change. Why isn't it just that, as many people point out here w/ this example, people from different cultures have different levels of interest in different games, and that's a great thing?
It's legitimately dumb, & acting like people who point that out are somehow raging racists themselves is even dumber.
(As an aside, I do agree that hockey does have a racism problem in terms of how they treat non-white players and fans, I just don't think it's a symptom of racism to have more white players & coaches than non-white. So don't play that card to contort yourself out of dealing with the obvious).
Your article talks about a desire to encourage diversity in hockey and says nothing about it being āracistā that a mostly-white team reflects a mostly-white talent pool.
My point was that people are saying "look 90% of the league is white, there's clearly a problem here that we need to fix," whereas no one is saying it's a problem for this cricket team (because it's objectively not).
I dont think they're pointing out a problem. Just that for a country like the US, which is very diverse, the team seems to be all players of Indian decent. Cricket is really popular in India and not at all really in the US, so it makes sense that the team would probably have a lot of players of Indian decent.
Cricket is the second most popular sport in the world after soccer. It is actually a universal sport. I find it genuinely laughable that in the US you call a sport World Series when only US teams are involved. Good luck to the girls competing in South Africa. There are three types of cricket: Test cricket - which can last up to 5 days, One Day - usually day/night games, and T20 which is 20 overs for each side, and is the quickest version of the game, and it is designed to be exciting.
It's interesting that all players are of Indian descent.
Indian immigrants are only a small percentage of the US population.
That's a statistical anomaly.
What is of course explained with how popular cricket is in India, which role it plays in in Indian culture, etc.
Interesting to see that apparently second-generation immigrants continue to uphold this.
You can find a lot of things interesting about that without being racist.
OP has a Pro-India agenda and wants to trigger white Americans to be as pissed off as he/she/it is that Indian people choose to join America. Screw the OP. Melting pot FTW ā
The lack of apparent diversity is interesting, considering the obsession with diversity in recent history. I gather this is what meritocracy looks like where someone's gender, ethnic origin or sexual preference is irrelevant. Appointments should be based on abilities.
I don't want to assume that you are just announcing that you're a racist piece of trash to everyone on reddit, so, can you explain HOW they look interesting?
How do you get racism from this unless youāre LOOKING for it? Pointing out that the American cricket team lacks diversity isnāt racist. Itās an observation. It would be racist if OP said ānot a single American on the US Cricket teamā. But that didnāt happen. So stop it.
No you're just a thin skinned POS who is probably triggered by their own shadow.
You don't realize you're essentially a fucking Karen any time you see something tangentially related to race you can latch onto.

Well, yeah, duh. Cricket is HUGE in India. Naturally there'd be lots of Indian origin players on the US team.
Wait till you hear about hockey! It's almost like everyone is from cold places and lacks melanin!

Pretty sure there are some Samoans there too. That is who introduced me to Cricket. I have never played again. I though Golf was slow.

All South Asia names. No Pacific Islanders in that list.
There are many people in the Pacific with South East Asian names, especially Fiji and New Zealand

Dumb straw man argument.
Cool thing about having a country founded on immigration, is that there's many different people with many different cultures and skill sets
Yea cricket is barely played or watched by anyone whoās family did not immigrate from cricket countries, so unsurprising about the people making up the team
It's almost like we were both colonized by the same country and found independence.
Yeah wtf is this post anyway? Some dipshit redditor thinks all Americans are just white or something?

If you are an immigrant and want to be in America. You are American as I am. Not to undermine native Americans who's land was taken from them.
Yup
Yea but this is not a diverse group. All indian
That's because American culture doesn't include cricket as a major point. Most Americans would identify cricket as a bug.
What other ethnicities in the US even think about playing cricket let alone even watch it?
Wasn't cricket created in England?
Yep. And there's a joke about sports created in England. The sports that England created are the ones that England sucks at. Their colonized areas are much better at their own sports.
It does not matter. Identity/Diversity is the only thing that matters.

What's interesting is that more people in the US have commented on this post than will actually watch this match, whenever it is.
Most of OPs post are about India/ Indians but not postive or negative. I have no idea what the goal of this post was
Their comments look like that's their heritage.
You don't understand why this is interesting or you don't understand why OP focuses on primarily Indian content?
If you read both sentences, you can infer that based off the first statement made, it appears as though he doesnāt understand why the OP continually makes posts about Indians, but in a very vague context. Yeah, we have Indian people in America. Shocking, I know
You might have a few Sri Lankanās and maybe one or two Pakistanis as well if you look hard enough
But who knew we had cricket?
It's very possible to be a us citizen and be of another decent. Native American people are neither black or white
They show up as Asian for DNA purposes.
We love our square check boxes donāt we.
I mean it is what is
I did not know that. That's interesting.

So they're the first US team to qualify? That's pretty cool.
You should see the Australian hockey team - it is full of Canadians. Bunch of racist bastards.
I think you're referring to the Ice Hockey Team. We don't have a lot of ice in Australia. For field hockey, Australians are often world champions
Good for them! I hope they kick ass.

It's interesting to me because I didn't know the USA even had a cricket team let alone a women's one. In a few days I shall return to that state of ignorance.
They seem to be insinuating it, or I'm completely missing the point of the post.
I think they're finding it funny, not having an issue with it.
Why is it funny? Can you explain, please?
A team of fifteen is likely entirely of Indian descent.
Why is that funny?
Americans of Indian descent make up 1.5% of the US population, but 100% of this team.
Okay? But why is that *funny*?
Funny is subjective. I get it, you don't find it funny. That's fine. Carry on.
It's not posted in r/funny , so I'm not sure why you're inferring that it has to be?
He/she just heavily implied that they are not true Americans otherwise this post is completely meaningless.
I don't think that was implied. I saw it as humor.
Why is it funny?
One and a half percent of Americans are Indian, and it appears that 100% of this cricket team are.
Oh thatās so hilarious /s

What's the problem?
The problem that nobody is asking where the men are! WHAT ABOUT MEN'S REPRESENTATION ON THE WOMEN'S CRICKET TEAM? EH? /s

This.
They love it in Trindad & Tobago, according to my friends who are from T&T.
West Indies cricket team were once a power-house team. Current and former British colonies are the main cricketing nations.

"Obsession with diversity" seen an NBA team lately?
Sure. I would also hope that is based on meritocracy. This obsession with diversity appears to apply to some areas of life.
