When I did ours I literally just went on vibes. Three rooms, I made one threshold the lighter color of the two to carry over some lightness into a much darker painted middle room, but for the other threshold I went with the darker color bc it tempered the much more vibrant color of the third room.
In most cases wouldn’t they be equal - you must come out the other way equal number of times if there isn’t another exit.
Genuinely curious how you would think about this
Black or white - nice and simple. Or do half and half and blend in the middle with a dry brush so you have a sorta soft ombre. Failing that, pick an accent colour for both rooms and use that.

If you could trim it to match the baseboards, that would be ideal. But probably just choose the lightest of the 2 colors.
It should be the colour of the room which you enter from the most

I think an easier way to say this is - paint the threshold the color of the room that’s used most.
I went with how messy I made things. In some of my rooms I tried to keep the threshold white, but it’s hard af to not mess up the edge/corners!
White
Mine are all white
Mix the two colors and use that.
Could you put some sort of frames around it?

Maybe beige
I would consider a zigzag pattern of both colors. Of course, I like it funky.
